LAnd Rovers are unique. No question about that and I actually think they are way cool. They just aren't my cup of tea. Tehy are complex and expensive to maintain and that's not me. That's all.
loweveryday end guys."Yep, further proof you're a trouble maker!
All we need is some additional representation -- such as Toyota, Dodge, Jaguar and Porsche -- to really make things interesting in here. And just when the powder keg is about to explode, you can call Jerry Springer in here to moderate! :P
Good point. But, would making twice what you earn now help you develop that "passion"?
They may be complex and expensive to maintain, but you're a selling... not buying.
Any takers to give me an estimate? I'm interested to see what numbers will pop up.
I'll let you know what our ACV will be tomorrow morning after he shows up again.

I have to tell you, I would NOT be making twice what I earn if I jumped ship.
That is an easy car to get burned on and the 96,000 miles will scare most people away and for good reason.
Great... I can see the female emotorcons flashing us their headlights now.
I think with the proper training, by myself and jmonroe... tidester and kirstie would be great Jerry Springer type hosts.
"KIRSTIE!! KIRSTIE!! KIRSTIE!!" (fellow Edmunds members chanting loudly) :P
Please don't bring up Jerry Springer in here. He's one guy I can't stand even though I lived in Cincy area.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I tend to agree! I remember back in the late 90s when a friend and I were both shopping at about the same time frame. He went to a local Infiniti dealership and received the salesguy/closer 1-2 punch, with the "What will it take for you to drive one home today?" approach. And this was from their so-called Fleet/Internet department!! :surprise:
Meanwhile, I shopped at a local Chrysler/Jeep store and received a personal 1-on-1 sales approach from an employee who acted, and treated me, like a professional.
Two cases of role reversal? No, I agree with you. Although a majority of high-end lines tend to be more customer oriented, and visa-versa, I believe we cannot validate that stereotype. The lines are blurred.
We're not quite that impressionable!

Hey 'jip' it sounds like this guy needs more training. I'll let you take the first crack at it. If that doesn't work you can turn him over to the heavy weight...ME.

I've already started. Yesterday I mailed Tidester the DVD collection of "Jerry Springers Best Clips, Bloops, Bleeps, Blunders... and Punches". It's the totally uncut and unedited version. One viewing of these videos will expunge any knowledge he gained from that fancy learning skool he did done go to. :P
If that don't work I vote we turn him over to my wife. You know..... my wife with the titanium plated frying pan.
If he ain't "cured" by then... you'll get the
call.
9,500-10,500 ACV.
Vanden Plas is the Long wheel base Jag with some extra stuff on the interior.
Nicer leather, better seats, picnic tables that fold down out of the back of the front seats etc.
It is the old body style though with the steel chassis so no where near as good as the 2004 and up Jags.
They are whole orders of magnitude cheaper to maintain then a long wheel base 7 series.
I would want a Super V8 though. If you aren't familiar with the Super V8 it is basically a Vanden Plas with the XJR drive train and suspension tweaks and a few styling changes. They made then in 2003 for the old body style and then 2006-2007 for the new body style. I am not sure if they are doing them for the 2008 Re-fresh.
More later.

I forgot about that frying pan; that oughta do it.

Keeping up with the maintenance is critical because they are very unforgiving.
It's just hard to find a home for these because people are afraid of them and rightfully so.
The VDPs are great, great cars. Tremendous bargains and much cheaper to maintain then any big German Saloon from that year.
My only concern on those jags is that I think they were still using the plastic or nylon chain tensioner for the timing chain. I know the early ones from the 1997-2000 had a tendency to break and so many were replaced under warranty. They gave you a rattle noise not long before they snapped so at least you had some warning.
Later on they went to improved plastic tensioner and then in 2005 a metal one was finally used for the third Gen AJ-V8. That 2002 probably has a plastic tensioner but it is the improved design and should be fine.

I'm asking because I am trying to figure out why a dealership did not even bother to respond to my emails (3 times!) enquiring on a vehicle that they had on ad. Or more precisely, I don't want the one on ad (hate white) but what would you ask for a similar vehicle that isn't white? Gave them my trade info and everything, and no response. I would hope the sales agent would get something off the trade so it would be a better deal for him than someone who buys the loss leader ad without a trade. And the ad car wasn't cheap it was a TCH, loaded.
Thanks for any insight
Peggy
You know the Jag I would really love is a First Gen XJR with the Supercharged Inline 6 cylinder. They are very hard to find though I have only ever seen one in person. They are never any for sale locally around here though so it keeps temptation at bay.
Are you at a Jag only store or are you a dual point with Land Rover?
Jipster, did you remember to edit Jerry's final monologue to the camera/screen, so that he reads (with a deep sinister voice):
"Tidester, join me, and fulfill your destiny. Together, we shall rule all of Town Hall. Give yourself to the dark side. It is the only way. Oh, by the way, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for Edmunds are strong. Especially for... So, you have a fellow moderator, named "Kirstie"? Your feelings have now betrayed her, too. Steve was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the dark side... then perhaps she will..."
(Sorry for continuing this off-topic discussion. I hope some Lucas fans find this post bordering on something better than spam!)
I'm immediately dismayed, because I know that a 96k mile Jag is not going to bring that. Like I said, they called me this morning and told me not to worry about the trade, but they had me take a look at it anyway. So, even before we're done evaluating the trade, they tell a gentleman they had brought with them that the ACV was $15k. So, to skip sales tax, he should just buy it from them for that amount.
Sweet, now I can finish my deal without having to deal with almost $7k of negative equity and this other guy takes the vehicle off my customer's hands. Pretty sneaky on their part.
Their car is burning gas, so we're all good.
-Moo
Well, we're about as on topic as those guys talking about the price of a VDP Jag... or whatever it was. So, yes... almost word for word, that is how I edited Jerrys final monologue.
Anyone know what the Edmunds appraiser number is?
Yup, you were pretty darn close.
I'd have to check out what the Edmunds one is. I think it's pretty high though.
-Moo
I think you guys are scaring off the noobs - visions of Jerry Springer wielding a light saber will rattle any sane person. Let's relegate this thread to a galaxy far far away.

I wonder if the Jaguar buyer reads this site.
You sell Saab along side of Jag, Audi, and Porsche? Interesting. In our metropolitan area, Saab seems to be sold only at certain Cadillac dealers.
Before the dealerships expanded in our area, we used to have one local dealer who sold Jag, Audi, and Porsche. I remember first walking into that dealership in 1996 to buy a $26K A4. It was my first purchase of any automobile above $20K. Of course, in that showroom, the A4 was the "low end" vehicle when compared to the others. Boy, I sure felt out of my element when I first walked in there!
