Don't worry though, he may return at a later date and offer slightly more.

Not if he's listening here and he shows up at the end of the month and of course, "if the truck is still on the lot". :)

oldfarmer....I bemoan the fact there aren't more farmer's markets around me. If I could get fresh produce and fruit (not hothouse), I'd gladly pay double what the local Krogers charges for that stuff they call fresh fruits and vegetables.

On a side note, some numbskull "hit and ran" my Tahoe Saturday....while in my church's parking lot no less. Nothing major...back bumper is dented. Unfortunately, they hit it where the back-up sensors and back-up camera are. I've got a feeling they're not salvageable. And, I've got $500 deductable.

If there's a silver lining, based on the size of the dent, whoever hit me is missing some body parts on their car.

When I said "Mustangs are out" that was my personal opinion. I was interested in only a Yellow GT automatic with Shaker 1000. There are probably only 10 of those in the USA. And of that maybe 1 or 2 available. Nothing against Mustang.
Then "Cadillac is out". Again my opinion. Cadillac used to have Coupe Deville, Eldorado, etc, but when you were older and felt the need for a big safe vehicle the Brougham was the car or Brougham De Elegance if you wanted to go all out. STS hit the market in about 1975 as a sporty version of Cadillac. Now STS seems to be the flagship and CTS,DTS are confusing. Which one is the new Brougham? Neither in my opinion. I took my mother to a Cadillac dealer and she was as confused as me with choices. Nothing against Cadillac. They just lost the big dog car that defines the manufacturer. She went out on her own after I went home and ended up with a Mercury Mistique. Bad choice in my opinion, but it fits in the garage easily and they gave her a bean bag ashtray when she asked where the ash tray was. Quick thinking on the salesmans part to satisfy the customer. I didn't see the numbers, but I'm sure they had a 3 pounder or better. She's 80 and has plenty of money, so they made her happy. Good for them. Key Lincoln Mercury in New Kensington, Pa. ps jmonroe, you're not the only yunzer here. Now you get to explain what a yunzer is.

"...I use this to annoy people..."

    It works.

I would point out that it only works because people make logical flaws in their assumptions and arguments. If they thought about it before they said it...eh, nvm.

So, whose tab was that, Nissans or the dealers

The dealer pays for the rental. And the paint job. If it was something we noticed when it arrived off the truck the manufacturer would pay for it.

It may not be a claim. A couple of months ago I DID have some bad chili. I found a cooked baby rat/mouse at the bottom of the cup.

Do I... 1) stop going to Wendy's or 2) quit eating chili?

It would have been funny to see them try and steal the wheels of a nearly 6,000 lbs long travel suspension Land Rover with a floor jack though. :P

    *Chokes back bile*

How's everyone's month going? I haven't been posting much because we've been busy. I'm sitting on 17 1/2 and another pre-order on the way that isn't counted yet.

Our dealership has something called the 20k club. For every vehicle sold during the month, $20 is put into a pot. Everyone who hits 20 cars gets a piece of that. It looks like I'm the only that's going to hit it this month. :P

    Call road side assistance...

Seriously though because the Rovers have air suspensions with a ton of wheel travel it can be a little hard to change a tire sometimes.

For example the LR3 and Range Rover have 13 inches of rear wheel travel which I think is more then any other vehicle on the market in the US. In order to change a tire you need to first raise the air suspension to off-road height so that you don't have to jack the car up as much. If you don't set the air suspension to off-road height first your will just about max out the jack trying to get the rear wheel off the ground.

They had one of those pimp-my-ride shows with Ozzie Osborne's kid and his Land Rover getting pimped. They were putting on after-market 20" or 22" wheels with huge tires. The mechanic said each wheel was over 100 lbs and they weren't putting in a spare because "he cant lift it anyway" or something to that effect.

Yeah stupid people then with their 22 inch wheels. :confuse:

The factory 19 inch wheels probably weigh 65 or 70 pounds. I have never tried to lift the factory 20 inch wheels but they can't weigh too much more then the 19 inch wheels. It wouldn't surprise me at all if poorly made 22 inch aftermarket wheels with tired weighed over 100 lbs. Most of the over sized aftermarket wheels are fairly poor quality. They are overly heavy and the materials are well below the quality of the factory rims. There are some exceptions but in general that has been my experience.

i knew you'd bring up roadside assistance, ya snob. ;b

of course, the easiest way is to just jack up under the suspension. That means only stealing one wheel at a time, though. ;b

Even that can be hard as you can stuff a Rover wheel way up into the wheel well. They have very long travel suspensions for both compression and rebound.

While I applaud you and the dealership for stepping up and fixing a potentially difficult situation I have to wonder if the customer is doing the right thing by accepting the car. What happens in a couple of years come trade-in time and this customer is trading in a car with paintwork. Does he get docked on the value costing him hundreds or thousands on trade?

I would have politely asked for a different car...
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
a bumper with a scratch? if the dealership can't fix that properly to your satisfaction, seems to me you want to know that early.

got any kids? do they ride bikes or trikes? low-scratches come with the territory.

drive any highways with road debris getting kicked up? park in any parking lots with spots facing each other?

bumpers just don't stay perfect forever.

We had this blinged out Range Rover Sport (black on black)on the lot - $8k of Strut Grill, vent covers, logos etc plus bling bling 22" wheels and tires. Well, this nice couple in their 50s from a small farm town about 100 miles from here comes in to look at the new line up of vehicles. After a couple of walk arounds and test drives, the wife decides she must have a Sport. She keeps coming back to the blinged up, we negotiate, she drives home happy. 3 days later I make my new owner follow up call. She says she absolutely loves the car but there is one problem. The local police (who have most likely never seen a car like this) keep pulling her over looking for drugs.

    1) Couple in their 50's
    2) Small rural community
    3) Buying a new fully-loaded (and beyond) Range Rover Sport

How do you know drug money was not involved in that purchase? ;)

ps jmonroe, you're not the only yunzer here. Now you get to explain what a yunzer is.

Gee, thanks, I love picking up what others drop on me. :(

A “yunzer” is what people in Western PA refer to themselves. This comes from the use of the word “yun’s” which is used the same as “ya’ll” is used in the south.

I never really used the word “yun’s” since my family never used it and boy am I glad of that. You see, when I was in 5th grade my English teacher would cringe when she heard that word and would send you to the black board (they really had those things when I went to grade school) to write 100 times, “I will not use the word “yun’s” in my daily speech”. There were some kids who didn’t learn after their first trip to the board so they got to write it 200 times the next time then 300 times, then… until they worked that word out of their vocabulary (they used a lot of chalk). :(:(

I’m glad I had a head start on not using that word, waaay too much work to un-use it. :surprise:

    How’d I do ‘mako1a’? :)

    bone in or bone out?

Well, if you're going to put it on your menu it would need to be bone out. You gots your popcorn chicken, popcorn shrimp, and your popcorn fish bites. Next on your menu at yo local Wendys... popcorn mouse.

I think the OP is referring to the vehicle condition rating that it will receive upon trade in, with a repaired scratch, for instance, that drops a new car immediately from excellent to good before you drive it off the lot (according to KBB)

Question: If you order a new Corvette and pick it up at Bowling Green without all the NCM (Corvette Museum)hoopla (just a pick up) would there be any delivery charge involved and if so...why?

People like my wife, and don't take this the wrong way, but no sales person will never be so important to me that I wouldn't answer the wifes call.

I assume that your wife's calls are few and far between.

My wife rarely calls me at work or during business hours on a business trip. Over the past 10 years her business hour calls average one or two a year. Those calls involved an emergency or a house sale. Our nightly calls were for the routine matters.

However, I have noticed and provided corrective counseling to people who took business hour calls from their spouse daily (or several times a day).

The best is when some "smart" guy comes in and uses this method to try to get a deal that just isn't gonna happen in this lifetime, then comes back to offer slightly more for the vehicle that I sold the day before to someone who was willing to pay something that makes sense, then gets pissed about it. The absolute highlight of my job.

I am married to my wife, I am not married to my job. My first responsibility is always to her and I can't think of much that would trump her call. If she needs me, she calls and leaves a code, if she is calling to "check in," I will take the call, time permitting. So far it hasn't proven to be a major issue in my life one way or the other. We have had slightly more than our fair share of emergencies in the last year or so, and I can't imagine not being there when needed.

Yes, the car business at it's very best especially when the first guy had an attitude and ESPECIALLY nice when YOU are the one who sold the car to the other customer!

    Well,

We have people here at work whose wives call them constantly. My first responsibility is to my wife too but she knows that work is work and her calls to me are very limited. If it's an ememrgency she would call the receptionist and say so.

Nothing I love more then someone I beg to put a deposit down on a car and they refuse. I immediately go into overdrive trying to sell that unit myself. It gives me great pleasure when someone says, and I have heard this hundreds of times " Oh no we dont need to put money down, if its meant to be its meant to be." I alert every salesman on the lot to try and sell THAT car that night!
  • advequityguyadvequityguy Member Posts: 138
    Just a guess....

If there was no delivery charge, then everybody would just buy one at bowling green instead of at their local dealership. Wouldn't be vey fair to the dealer that paid a crap load of money for the right to sell em, would it?

Here's an equally intriguing question. If I was in the market to buy an Ipod from a walmart in Southern Cal, would I get a lower price than if I bought the same Ipod from a Walmart in Maine?....It would certainly cost less for apple (or walmart) to transport it down the street from where it originated than across the country.

Everyone asks the same question about cars. No one is nearly as anal when it comes to any other product on the market.
  • advequityguyadvequityguy Member Posts: 138
Its true! Everyone says that! "If it's meant to be, it's meant to be". Ha! It's like they put a big red bullseye on that car.

Well, the original post said there was "paint missing from the front bumper"... meaning some type of abrasion, and not a scratch. Either way it is a depreciated asset in that there is some damage. So, some type of compensation would be justified.

Now, if just a tiny half inch scratch or buff mark that if barely noticeable, I wouldn't ask for a new car. Fix it and give me about 5 (not 10) free oil changes.... I'm not greedy.
But, the customer should have been offered the free oil changes, or a bowl of chili, for his time and expense.

If they had the time, or noticed it sooner they would have probably been fixed it and there would be no issues. I would presume stuff gets fixed all the time from bumps and scrapes from transit. I don't believe they are obligated to disclose if anything was fixed as well.

I once took home delivery of a car when I was very busy and traveling extensively. A few days after delivery, I noticed one of the rims had some bad touch-up paint on it from some knid of rash. I was peeved, but too busy to return it. I think they took advantage of how busy I was. If they had fixed it properly with spray paint and clear coat, instead of a gob of touch up paint that did not match, no problem. Make me think twice about buying from them again. Especially since it was a "maxi" deal for them.

And you wonder why some consumers take a bad view of car sales. Why do you need to take it so personally? It's business. Frankly I don't understand the logic. If they come back, the car's gone and you have nothing to sell them. Seems to me the best case would be sell it to them when they come back and sell another one to someone else.

What's happened to me? I used to fire back at these comments with such vigor. Now, I just don't have the heart to share anymore.

Some posters perch like vultures, waiting for a salesman to say something they can feed on. And then drop the dreaded, "SEE THAT'S WHY CONSUMERS HATES CAR SALESMEN". Ok, ok, we get it. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

    What's happened to me?

    Old age?

Though I wouldn't have written the comment on "that's why consumers take a bad view of car sales"... it seems to be a legitimate question. Why be vindictive and sell a car from someone who is probably giving an honest answer... they don't want to leave a deposit. Carhag could be costing herself monetary gain by encouraging the other salespeople to sell that car. Her choice though.
I'm not making a personal judgment, just curious as to her motivation. SQUAAHK SQUAAK!! (vulture noise) ;)

  • advequityguyadvequityguy Member Posts: 138
I think you're missing the point. Pretty much any prospective customer on Earth would think a salesman is trying to cheat him or "lock him in" to a car deal by asking for a deposit. The customer usually refuses to do so, then leaves with the intent to come back later and get a lower price (usually a REALLY stoopid price after they have figured out the whole car business for themselves by browsing a website or two).

It makes me happy like nothing else on Earth when I tell that guy when he comes back with another rediculous offer, that I sold his car at a legitimate price while he was gone. It's even better if the car is being driven away while the guy's standing there. Of course, this is not as joyful when a different salesman sells the car, but that's still pretty funny.

"Well Sir, I guess all those amateur car buying tips you were reading on those forums didn't work out all that well for you...."
