Funny movie. I like when the sales guy was told that you HAVE to get the people in the car to make the sale. The guy gets frustrated when the people say that they don't want to look inside and stuffs them in screaming ,"Aw, just get in the M_______ing car!!!"

If you haven't seen "Used Cars", it's pretty funny, especially for the real, professional sales people on here.

    Lol, Deskman.

You're cracking me up. What's strange, is that I actually worked with one of those preachers. He didn't even own a car. Called himself a reverend and didn't sell much, but smashed everyone he did. Lasted a few months, bought himself a new pair of alligator boots and left. Alonzo. We miss you.

I'm not sure I follow you. Why would you think I sell Hyundais?

There's a lot of good car sales movies out there.

One of my favorites is Cadillac Man with Robin Williams, Used Cars is really good too. There's also one out there with Don Johnson and Virginia Madsen that revolves around a small car lot but it's mainly about Don and Virginia doing the nasty. ;)

Suckers is ok, they get the sales meetings and other things that go on at dealerships right. The drug and killing were a little over the top. I'd give it a C-.

There's another one out there that the title escapes me but I'll think about it later and post it.

Glengarry, Glenross is one of my all time faves. Although not about car sales it's about land sales and the characters are not that much detached from what we have in the car biz or the closing techniques they use. One of the favorite lines we use around here with noobs is when they are by the coffee.
"Put the coffee down, coffee is for closers." you should see the look on their face.! :)
The other line is when Alec Baldwin tells one guy: "See this watch! This cost more than that POS Hyundai you drove in today!" and there's the classic one which I can't repeat here as it is a family forum.
Later, will post more from home. It's friday night at the dealership and we put up ten deals on the board. I delivered one and have another going first thing tomorrow morning. :)

    How's everyone doing?

    I moved from Nissan/Infiniti to Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Sprinter.

Had our wedding, been on two honeymoons and came back to a new job.

It's a5 minute drive to work as opposed to 40 minute commmute, and we have a ton of fun here. To be honset I was dissappointed with some of the Nissan product, even though the grosses were decent.

Plus we were losing a ton of Infiniti business to the US. Lot of people shopping south cause of our strong buck. And Infiniti is where we made good grosses because there's only two other stores in Vancouver.

Anyways the Chrysler product for some reason is more appealing than Nissans to me, and there's a bit more selection. I think I'll stick around here for a while. :D

OK, you know the rules, lets have a sales tale. You've got to have a few by now.

Had our wedding, been on two honeymoons and came back to a new job.

And remember, this is a family forum, no tales from these adventures :D

I think more than a few of us have been tricked into attending an Amway meeting!

    Are they still around?
  • madmanmoomadmanmoo Member Posts: 2,039
I'm sure Amway is around, but the group that this guy worked for was Primerica. I didn't know it at the time, but after seeing the guys post about it here on the forum I did a Google on it. Everything that was listed about their business structure was the same as what goofball presented me with. Rule of 72, $199 to get started and licensed and you have to attend some seminar. What a joke this company is. It truly is a pyramid scheme.

And car salesmen have a bad rap! :) How'd you like me to show up on your doorstep talking about the weather and then start questioning how much you really care about your family's wellbeing if you aren't driving a new Cayenne. Wow!

I make more at a crappy part-time job I got on the side than 98% of their agents.

You will make more money checking the change slot of vending machines than 98% of people in any pyramid scheme.

I have been tricked into quite a few of amway and others, never went through an entire presentation though.

Yes and they have another one under a different name that I cannot recall right now.

We are careful with the front door delivery deal. For previous customers we do it all the time but if it is your first purchase from us we are careful.

The reason being is the Tennessee Buyers Remorse law has some outs for a consumer who was sold something at there home.
  • joel0622joel0622 Member Posts: 3,299
The same lady won both of them, it was a His & Hers type deal. It went great we had a boat load of people here for the morning and ended up with a decent day. Nothing like we have had with some direct mailer pieces in the past but it was respectable.

The lady who won truly needed them so that was good.

In my case I delt with one of the owners. I did a real big favor for him in a past life and he did a real big favor for me on this. If I were joe six-pack coming in that wouldn't have happened.

There is so much paperwork lately that we get bogged down.

If the person doesn't want to test drive the car and Finance isn't busy, I can get a person out in 45 minutes.

I had a guy come down to our bone lot and had like 275 to spend. Boss told me to take him to an ancient Kcar. I had to kick in 20 bucks out of my own pocket but the guy needed a car...I still see that guy occasionally looking for another " deal of a lifetime." He smelled so bad that we had him out of there in under thirty minutes.
  • joel0622joel0622 Member Posts: 3,299
My quickest sale was about 5 seconds. A guy came on the show room saw a Cobra Convertible and said "I'll take it" Took about 30 minutes to get it written up, paper work done and the check hammered at the bank next door.

    Isell--

Amway is still around despite their many legal woes over the last 20 years. Although I haven't lived in MI in more than 25 years I still visit my folks a couple of times a year. I don't remember where I read it, but the Amway founders were at one time listed among the most prosperous Michiganders, which is really saying something given they're up against folk like the Fords and pizza magnates: Ilitch (Little Caesars) and Monaghan (Dominos). Monaghan has since moved on and has much of his money invested in his own Catholic University in FL. Ilitch bought the Tigers from Monaghan and also owns the Red Wings, if I'm not mistaken. The Ford family own the Lions. Anyone remember who owns the Pistons?

Of course, they all pale in comparison to some of the entrepreneurs in Isell's zipcode.

A co worker just had an up that consisted of a father and son. They test drove several different cars and expected a full walk around on each. At the end of the test drives they looked at each other and said " are you ready?" at which time they jumped into their car and pulled away. Took about 2 hours of my co workers time on the busiest day of the week and then did not give him an opportunity to earn the business.

I thought that was rather rude. What do you guys think?
  • madmanmoomadmanmoo Member Posts: 2,039
Definitely rude if they gave the salesman the impression that they were doing business that day. Wouldn't make me happy at all.

Anal people who have nothing better to do then correct peoples grammar on message boards are a pet peeve of mine. Not saying you one of them, but come on man its only a message board. :P
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Who died and left you in charge of the grammar patrol? We already have a full fledged retired college professor that does that around here. Besides if you want to feel welcome around here that is not the way to do it. Maybe Joel only had a 3rd grade education, maybe not but we know what he means and that's all that matters.

Anyways I need too go as my sister and her hubby are in my living room and they are their contemplating going back to there home.

The first thing I think is maybe the salesperson offended them.

If that wasn't the case that was rude and retarded :confuse:

That was beyond rude into cruel. Did they say that they were just looking? Did they explain why they were just taking off? At least a "we'll be back" would have been nice.

Of course if these guys are going to do that kind of thing when else do you expect them to do it except in the middle of a Saturday? It's when they are both off. No doubt a fine bonding experience as dad shows junior how to kill your day.

Of course it's rude, or as oldfarmer said, cruel. I don't know how you avoid such things. It's certainly not something you'd catch me doing.

I guess I'd be suspicious of anyone coming in looking to try out everything. Is it me or does that just scream "I'm not serious!"
