Don't know much about day-to-day life in China.

    I appreciate your input.

Seems like the US and China are bound for much more interaction in the future. Hope it's the good kind. I'm in San Diego, by the way. A pretty pleasant place to be in the US if you ever get to the States.
  • vchiuvchiu Member Posts: 564
This is like a close surface of 100 acres which access is controlled by private guards. A bit like closed communities I saw in the LA area. The difference is that there aren't individual houses but these are buildings from 7 to 13 floors. There is a capacity for 500 households and there are about 250 installed families.
There are about 50 cars altogether. 4 of which are Fits.

Don't know how to name this kind of condominiums

Well, on the driving side, it is more interesting to share stories about considerate drivers here because they are so few compared to inconsiderate ones.

I also hope some good interation.

pricewise, China sold cars are much more expensive than in the US, even if locally made. I mean Foreign brands of course. The exception goes with smaller cars which are competing for the volumes. examples:
    1) a fit in China is sold for about 15k USD all inclusive (even one year of third party insurance) whereas a similary equipped fit seems to be a tad more in the US.

    2) A China made hyundai 2.4 Sonata is sold here for 30K+ USD, whereas it is easy to grab one in the US for less than half.

Maybe because the Sonata/Accord/Camry are on a very popular segment, this is an explanation of the good US prices. on the contrary, small cars are much more popular in China.

I think "my estate" means something like complex, as in condominium complex. However, in China, they got these super-developed gated/walled "city within a city" complexes that are really quite a bit bigger than a townhouse and condo complex. They are, well, literally, mini-cities by themselves.

I guess vchiu beat me to the punch with an explanation. His explanation is no doubt much more accurate than mine. Sorry.

Really? I am as well. I bought my Fit in Carlsbad. Are you in the north or south county?

my sister lives in a gated community in western pennsylvania. i think there are two normal gates and an emergency exit. it has over 90 miles of roads!
saw my first 'fit' in the 'us of a' yesterday. a nice young lady in her 70's driving it. so much for the demographics. :confuse:

Was she driving a Sport with all the spoilers, and alloys? :P Maybe she borrowed her grandson's car! ;)
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,794
all i noticed was that it looked like a 'fit' i saw during a drive through ontario last month, and it looked a little different from an aveo. it could have had alloys and spoilers.

Thanks for that!!!! I realized that my unfortunate choice of silver, said a lot about my middle aged state however, you have put everything in perspective. Even at 70, one can enjoy "cat like reflexes" I hope that babe was driving a sport model in orange with every unnecessary option known to Honda.

Got the call from the Dealer today. The car will arrive on Wednesday. So, only took a little over two weeks to locate the car. Not bad.

Can you post some pics? I've seen very few pics of the Fit in black. :shades:

    In the Contrary.
Your much better command of the language allowed you to explain it concisely, whereas I need many words to express it.

Technically, this does not relate directly to the Fit, but I thought it might interest posters here in sorting out comparisons of the Fit to slightly more upscale rides. For me, it says a lot about the tradeoffs I had to make in my car-buying decision, and why, though the Fit doesn’t compare performance-wise to a couple of these cars, the Fit fit me much better at this point.

CR just did a review of “Sporty Cars” and convertibles in their June 2006 issue. They tested the Miata, the Solstice, the Civic Si, the Focus ST, and the GTI.

The Solstice bombed, but the Miata is now CR’s top-rated convertible under 25K, ahead of the S2000 by a fairly wide margin.

As for the “Sporty” cars, the Focus was the only one close to the price of the Fit at 19,145. It performed well, but it’s falling behind on fit and finish, interior quality and safety features.

The Si, at 20,540 was rated a cut above the Focus (and placed above the WRX TR in the new ratings!), but CR thought the back seat was cramped, noticed some road noise, and wasn’t crazy about the steering feedback with the electrically assisted steering.

The GTI, at 23,975 blew the others away. It accelerated and handled almost as well as the Miata. The only things they didn’t like about it were a long throw on the clutch (made everyone pull up close to the steering wheel) and some questions about the VW reliability.

A previous poster in this forum was talking down the Fit in comparison to the new GTI. Hey, from that review the GTI is a fantastic car. But it’s nearly $9,000 more with TTL than I paid for my Fit Sport. And it doesn’t have 5 doors. I couldn’t afford it AND it doesn’t suit my needs—5 doors. (Yes, I know a 5 door GTI is coming, but it isn’t here yet.)

And then there’s this conundrum: The GTI is only $9,000 more; but for another $6,000 I could go up to an R32. The never ending upsell. For just another $125 a month you could get….

The Fit’s price/performance/functionality combination hit me at the right spot to stop the debate.

I hope to see a full-on Fit review in CR soon.

Hell, II'm not surprised. An S2000 for under $25k? When exactly do you think they pulled it off the assembly line to get it priced that low? Maybe before the engine and tranny were put in? ;b

    Oops.

I'm sorry qbrozen, but I made a mistake. The "roadsters"--Solstice, Miata, S2000--were under 35K. It was the other cars that were under 25K.

    Sorry.
  • plektoplekto Member Posts: 3,738
I noticed that the RX-8, which is by far the best car for 25K out there(easily doable after rebates), wasn't even included. It whomps on most of the other sedans and does about 85% of what a Z will do, which is considering that it is only styled like a sportscar. Comparing it to an Audi A4 or simmilar would be fairer.
  • nwngnwng Member Posts: 663
it's supposedly to be called "smart growth" in the US. But hey, we all want our McMansions :P
  • nwngnwng Member Posts: 663
thanks for the correction, me bad.

i got confused with the 1.4 diesel option with the yaris, not in the US of course. On that same line of thought, is honda going to make another diesel engine either larger or smaller than their 2.2?
  • hungarian83hungarian83 Member Posts: 678
I assumed they would make a smaller version of the diesel for the European Civic, but it looks like they didn't. Quite a versatile engine in that it is currently used in the Accord sedan, Accord Tourer, CR-V, FR-V, and now the Civic. I still think it is too large and powerful for the Jazz though.
  • andmoonandmoon Member Posts: 320
I don't know what the 2.2 diesel would do to the fit's weight distribution but if it isn't too heavy i would love it in the fit.
55 to 60 mpg and a hoot to drive!
  • sd_driversd_driver Member Posts: 49
CR rates the RX-8 as the 4th best sports/sporty car over 25K--just behind Audi S4 (50K); BMW M3 (54K) and WRX STi (32.8K).

    Lists RX-8 at $31,305.
  • plektoplekto Member Posts: 3,738
Trust me - you can get a base model with automatic for $25K. Sure, it doesn't have leather and chrome exhaust and so on, but who cares?

    MSRP Invoice
    $26,435 $24,458
    Delivery:$560
    $26,995 $25,018
There's $1000 cash back on the car.
    $25,995 $24,018

$25K easily gets you a couple of minor options and gives them a nice $400-500 profit margin.

    For $25K, it's a hell of a car.

    Extremely LOUSY gas mileage.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
Especially lousy considering its meager low-end power.
  • plektoplekto Member Posts: 3,738
The thing is seriously fast - it isn't a true sportscar and yet it almost matches a 350Z.

Compare it to a Mustang, 350Z, or other sportscar with a V8 - none of them get much better mileage, either. It revs silly fast, too - you can whomp it from 4000rpm to 7000 in about a second.
  • andmoonandmoon Member Posts: 320
2 rotors w/ 3 cumbustion chambers each is similar to 6 cylinder 2 stroke so gas consumption is high but oh is it smooth!

Ditto. I just ordered a black Fit Sport yesterday after test driving a Vivid Blue base model. What a fantastic little car. Mine is expected within the next two weeks. It is only 60 miles away, but dealers are playing hardball on the trades. They want other premium cars in return if they are going to get off a Fit in a trade. A fit is a great bargaining chip for any dealer who has one. My dealer has to offer something worthwhile for the other dealer to get off the Fit Sport.

What actually sold me on this over the Yaris hatch was the refresh mode, tall mode, and long modes offered by the various seating configurations. With the Yaris, there is only the utility mode. The Fit offers the utility mode plus the other three. And we need all the space and craftiness we can get with a small car.

    Who needs an SUV?

    Thanks,
    Rip

How do you get off a Fit? I assume you just rub the little blue dot above the "i" in the Fit badge on the hatch, but I'm not sure.
  • moparbadmoparbad Member Posts: 3,870
Indiana has been working with Honda Motor Co. to bring an investment to the southeastern part of the state, Gov. Mitch Daniels said on Tuesday, less than a day after a newspaper reported the Japanese carmaker is trying to build a plant in North America.

The location of the factory is not yet decided but is slated to open in 2009 with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year, the Nihon Keizai newspaper in Japan said, without citing sources for the information.
  • carfanatic007carfanatic007 Member Posts: 267
Huh? The Japanese carmaker (Honda) already has a plant in North America, OHIO, Marysville. I'm sure thats were the Fit will be made.

    Groooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwllllllllllllll. I like it.

    That's pretty good.

By the way, I ran a search of "Fit" photos at Carspace and I saw your photos there. You're pretty hot. I mean just dog-gone good lookin'. And you're very "fit." Car is just as sharp as the owner.

    Another grooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwllllllllllll.

Being middle aged is sort of a drag. I'm actually trying to put some long distance game on you through an internet forum devoted to tiny Honda wagons. That's pretty bad, huh?

I guess fellas will always be fellas. :-)

Take care and enjoy that devilishy cute Fit,

I'll give her your regards. We share this user name basically because we use the same computer and she doesn't like to log on separately all the time.

It's her Fit and she loves it. I convinced her I need to drive it frequently so it's broken in properly. It's broken in now so I need to come up with another excuse. :D

Not buying yet ... waiting to see if competition improves the Fit.

Speaking of improvements. Anyone notice that cruise control is now a $420cdn option on the Yaris hatch in Canada? On all trims.

Now if we could just get the 60/40 reclining, sliding rear seat in the LE 5-door we'd have a real contender! ;)

This is a vanity item - my 87 civic sedan was a perfect car for me (driving only 2K miles per year). As such, the Fit exceeds my expectations I had for my first car back when I was 17 before we had hondas: sporty, reliable, safe, utilitarian, excellent engineering, fuel efficient, command of the road. That first car was a BMW. This car is a Honda - not a poor man's BMW but just another great Honda design.

I dont know about demographics but this one suites me. A bit (or a lot) better mpg would be the only reason to sell it or to trade it in.

Reasons: Price, safety features and gas mileage were tied for first place. Cargo space and basic driving quality (ie. good steering, brakes, acceleration, tranny, etc.) tied for second place.

Personally, I think the marketing folks at Honda completely missed the boat on this one -- I suppose some twenty-somethings would find this a good first car (and I'm sure it appeals to a lot of the parents who are footing the bills).

But the obvious market for this car seems to be grown-ups who want an practical, inexpensive, gas-miserly car because they either A. already have a nicer car to use for road trips and special occasions, or B. can't afford a nicer car.

My family falls into the latter category.

My daughter is married and living out of state (born when I was seventeen)

Retired from the Military and lived in Japan for 8 years where I got to drive alot of nice cars that aren't available here.

This time I really am going to pick up my car. I confirmed my car is at the dealership (Black Sport MT) and with pick up in 10 hours and 56 minutes).

    Married with two school-age kids

I've been waiting for a well-built hatchback that gets good mileage, and is fun to drive. The Fit meets all the requirements. My Vivid Blue Sport AT is due in early June.

I agree, what was Honda thinking? The majority of folks who discuss here seem to be in the 20-60 range, somewhat outside of Honda's marketing campaign range. At least the Fit is available for ALL ages.

Picked it up today at 1200. Surprised at the zip this thing has. The black looks really good, although I realize it will be a pain to keep clean. Interior materials look of top notch quality. Shifts very smoothly. Seems quiet to me. I sit tall in the seat (I'm 5'10, 32 inseam) I have absolutely no problems with the seat height Air Conditioner works like a charm. It is a little bumpy on side streets, but that is to be expected on a car with this platform. It I wanted a smooth ride I would have bought a Buick! Steering is very precise and quick. It handles like a sports car. That is my first impression. After I drive this thing for about 500 more miles I will make another report for those of you who are considering this little mean machine.
