I have a 2018 Mini Convertible on order that should be available for pickup on February 10th. Would there be any real benefit to waiting until the following weekend for President's Day sales? Would the MF and Residual be any different that weekend than for the rest of February?

If I can save some money I'll wait the week. Otherwise, I want to get my hands on my new car as soon as possible.

So all the marketing for President's Day sales is just bull?

If you could post the February numbers when they come in I would appreciate it. I want to see if my salesman will be willing to negotiate in advance of me coming in. His predecessor did, but he seems reluctant. My car should be ready to be picked up two weeks from today.

My sales rep quoted me a lease price of $460.80. That doesn't add up given the info he gave me. This is what I have:

MSRP: $32,050
Invoice: $29,755
TrueCar Value: $30,436
Deposit: $1,000
Loyalty Bonus: $500
MF: .00152
Residual: $18,589
Tax: 9.5%

Using an online calculator, the payment I came up with is $393.82. This is more along the lines of what I was expecting. I emailed him back telling him that I wanted to keep it below $400, especially since Mini altered their warranty since I leased my last Mini and I would need to pay if I wanted the same coverage I currently have.

Thoughts?

Ask the dealer what the cap cost is that they used for their post - if higher than the selling price, find out what has been added.

I agree with the math on that worksheet.

$600 is a lot for maintenance, however - 2, maybe 3, services?

I know that looking at lease deals on the Mini website is a trap, but they're advertising an S convertible with a similar cap cost for $329 + tax. $459.51 just seems like a lot for a base model.

How much is due at signing for that ad?

The ad is for $2500 and I'm doing $1000. Adding $40 to their payment still has it under $400/mo including tax.

I'm sure that $2500 is all cap reduction, so closer to $70/mo added to the promotional payment.

And, given the number of options available on a MINI, it's easy to understand how another $50/mo could be added to the payment.

The point I'm stuck on is they both have cap costs that are close to one another, but one payment is $100 more than the other.

Could be a different residual for the S, as well. Not $100 difference, mind you, but without knowing all the numbers, we'll never be able to figure out why.

Apparently the incentives on the S models are more aggressive at the moment. I'm getting an S model with Premium and Sport packages for less than I would have for a base model with the Tech package. I'm disappointed I'm not ending up with the car I configured, but I'm getting a lot more for less money.

My 2015 base convertible is very zippy. I haven't driven the S yet, but I'm sure it's even more zippier-er.

My daughter started with a base hatch, then upgraded to an S Countryman. It's much quicker.

Can't wait. It was supposed to be in today, but it's been delayed. It's part of the same delivery as the one I configured. They will deliver it to my office Monday or Tuesday.

Since we don't have MINI's MF and RV, I wanted to find out ,in general terms, how leasing a dealer loaner (with extra mileage) would affect the MF and RV, if at all (irrespective of the actual values)?

I'm looking at a loaner 2018 Mini Cooper 4-door, with 8,152 miles for a discounted price of $21,450 (MSRP $25,450). Is it in my advantage to lease this loaner with the extra miles?

If the MINI program for loaners is like BMW's (and, there's no reason to think it isn't), I wouldn't lease one with more than 5000 miles on it.

Residual drops by 4% ($24/mo), in addition to a .25 per mile deduction in the residual ($2038, or almost $57/mo), and you lose any available incentives. There would have to be a very big discount from sticker to compensate for it. That's almost $3000 total, and you're getting only $4K off sticker.

Keep shopping, is my opinion.
