Congratulations on getting your truck. What a turn in events for you! I am happy for you, especially in hearing all the problems that you had in getting information regarding your order. I don't want to take anything away from your happiness, etc in getting your truck, but I agree with Tim that some things that you were told about your truck order (TPW, Run Arounds, Dates, Etc.) between the dealer and GM sure sound funny to me. I hope you find everything just as you ordered. If you are happy with it then all the other things are secondary except maybe questioning the dealer being straight with you. Good Luck and Enjoy it. I hope to find out this week about mine as this week is my TPW. Bob
The salesman is a great guy trust me we have been talking since august. Hes a year older than me so we have alot in common he has checked and made sure everything i ordered came on it. I havent seen it i know but i take his word i trust him very much. The TPW thing was only a wks difference. He knew i didnt want the truck till june he wouldnt go out and find one on a lot and have that one shipped. Not all sales people are bad i have found out with this experience there is still hope. That is actually normal for a truck to be built and the next wk they get it he told me if it was built in fort wayne which it was that it would be in within the next 2 wks. Well it took a little less than a wk. Im not even worried at all i know itll be the truck i ordered. Im just stressed out over getting off work which they told me its cool they will find someone else to work and getting the accessories added which i gotta decide on this wk probably today. I think im gona go with westin and the lund interceptor (rhino is gonna match the $49.99 price on the bug deflector and yes i am gonna put it on they will just put it with the truck). Well i could take for days but i gotta get to school then work and ill be able to jabbor some more.
Take it easy everyone
Ryan
oh yea dont get all worried over stuff guys especially when im not even worried
Everyone's getting their trucks all at once. Congrats Ryan. You will love your new truck. The blue is absolutely beautiful, although the pollen is so bad here my truck is covered with yellow dust.
I took delivery on Saturday and now have about 150 miles on it. Have not taken the engine (4.8L) above 2000RPM but I haven't needed to. I've been keeping speed at/below 55 as suggested in owners manual, but the engine seems to have plenty of power. I can't wait to get through breakin so I can open it up a little.
So far I haven't noticed any of the problems others have mentioned in these posts.
My truck came with Goodyear Wrangler STs which are fine for me. I'll probably go to something larger with a more aggressive tread when these wear out. Hopefully at least 40K miles from now.
Sunday I put on the Interceptor and WeatherFlex visors. Took me about 15 minutes. Had one insert missing for the hood shield so wrenchead is shipping one to me.
With the extended cab and long bed this thing is BIG. I love driving it but parking it will take a little getting used to.
You can turn off the DRL's and the auto headlights by pushing the dome override button on the dash 4 times. It will chime once when it deactivates, if you want to reactivate it push it another 4 times and it chimes again and the system is back to normal. You would need to do this all the time, it is not a permanent setting as the other wire in modules that places sell. Hope this helps you.
By the way mine is a 2000 LS 2500, i assume that all the other new trucks work the same way.
Does anyone have experience with the Steel Horse swing away carrier for a 2" receiver? How a bout the Hidden Hitch receivers? Does anyone know if mounting the receiver would require drilling? Both are at J.C.Whitney (www.jcwhitney.com).
I used to be involved with fleet sales for a Chevy dealer. I can't tell you for sure, but when a vehicle is ordered "fleet", there are several different ways it can be processed. What can happen regarding the $16 charge to the dealer is that the factory can charge the dealership for things like fuel that are not charged for on "stock" or "sold" orders. That is just one example, another is how many free interest days the dealership will have before a unit is charged to his floorplan expense. Fleet purchases are a whole different ballgame. But remember this, INVOICE CHARGES are the dealership's bill, NOT YOURS! The factory has no idea what the dealership is charging you, those charges should have been factored into your original agreement. But if you agreed to pay an amount relative to invoice rather than a specific price, then that is part of your cost too. The freight discrepency is hard to figure out, all I know is that if I was the dealer and you were buying two or more units I would be charging you the lower price for both! Good luck!
Wow been a long time huh since august till now 8 months. Ill have some pics of it hopefully by this weekend or early next wk salesman is gonna take some for me. Im still like not believing it yet. I didnt sleep much last night i wanna see it so bad. I think i can wait 18 days not to much of a wait.
I am considering a new Silverado and was wondering if you can feel the difference between the 4.8 and 5.3 motors. I will be test driving them in the near future, but thought I would ask. Thanks.
Most trucks on the lots have 5.3 i still havent seen a truck other than a base truck with the 4.8 or V-6. Its on 15 more HP and if you dont tow anything the 4.8 probably would be enough. You would probably have to order it cause every dealer i talked to told me they only order the 5.3's cause they sell.
A test drive is only really way to tell the differences.
test drove both...found 4.8 only in base model, reg cab, white...everything else had 5.3. If you're not towing or hauling, get the 4.8 with the 3.42. Had a '99 with the 4.8...plenty of guts with good fuel economy..also came with B8 hubs and major vibrations. My $.02
So our dear host is overwhelmed with so many topics to monitor that WE will have to suffer by having to look thru this topic for postings on other items felt deemed to be consolidated??????
Maybe it's time for a new host who isn't so overwhelmed doing their job whether it be payed or volunteer.
Remember the old adage "KISS" (keep it simple stupid) Consolidation has just removed that simple and now made it stupid. Different topics were purposly for that reason, so you could go to areas you were interested in info on, not surfing thru 100 plus posts to get info!
I was thinking back in october what if you found someone who bought a 3/4 ton truck that wanted a 5.3 and i wanted a 1/2 ton with the 6.0 L. Would it be possible to switch em and have a 1/2 with a 6.0 L??? I dont know if it is but it would be different. Just thinking off the top of my head im not planning on doing it just thought what if?
Chevrolet advises 1mpg difference between the 4.8 & 5.3 on the highway ONLY on the combination of 2WD, Automatic. Otherwise Chevrolet advertises the same MPG for city (2wd or 4wd) and the same for 4wd highway.
2000 Silverado reg cab LS 2wd 4800. 3000 miles and on 3rd set of tires. OE tires had a noticeable bounce so finally called dealer whom set to Goodyear store, tires were not round. So ordered a new set, these were even worse at 55 - 70. 3rd set are Wrangler RT/S P255's much better. Any others with this problem.
Very please with the truck especially the 4800 V_8 but been wondering if should have gone for 5300. Do not tow just for passing and highway speed, test drove v-6 felt week.
I agree it sucks to have more subjects thrown into this one.
What we need is to have about 4 separate groups under pickups: - Silverado/Sierra - Ford - Dodge - Toys - Other
Then we could have all the separate subjects, but still away from all the brand X guys, and the newbies wouldn't have to sort through too many dicussions to find one they are interested in.
Even the stock air box sucks from an opening in the fender well area, doesn't get much cooler than that. So what you gain from the airraid is questionable. A hefty $ for the unit & replacement filter, but the filters last longer because their washable.
scottay, negative, a round (conical) filter (K&N) that is sucking air from 360 degrees around it, in an enclosed area (about the same as the stock air box) which BOTH draw fresh air through a opening in the "fenderwell" (for lack of a better word). So no more air, or colder air can "flow" through the engine than the opening that allows fresh air to enter.
So my point is, if you replace the stock air filter with a K&N for $41.00 you have pretty much maximized your engine potential (strictly speaking of air filters/air chargers/airaid/etc).
Mike.......Your dreaming, the decision has been made without the input of the constituents (we the users). This is not "Burger King" to quote our host, so we can't have it our way. seig hiel!
Obyone.....You mentioned something about this seanrio once before, I had pegged "Meredith" as a typical female gender but you said otherwise .....are you hold'in out on us ...give it up...or we'll strap you to a palm tree at the Proud Peacock on North Shore & let the peacocks have at ya....LOL.......what do you know?
I don't know how much potential you gain from switching from stock filter to K&N, I had gotten the optional high capacity filter for the truck already. I have the K&N unit on my CRX where it does make a difference over stock airbox setup but don't see were you gain on the Silverado because of what you mentioned ie; fenderwell opening limitation.
Westin 4 dr black nerf bars $250 installed. $399 - $25 coupon for the bedliner wade bed rail caps $58.95 non installed Lund interceptor $49.95 non installed
All from Rhino i talked to the salesman he said its Sweet.
Tim about the Rabbit thing i got a clarification on that. The invoice was right had my last name but when my salesman came to work the guy that orders them (computer guy manager) said Rabbits truck is in for some reason. He said its a big joke but wont tell me the whole story but GM did have the right name on it. They also changed the TPW and moved it up he didnt know why though they didnt say. it has all the options i wanted he checked it over. SO you all can rest easy and so can i.
oh...and a few posts back you said you hoped you could get off the day you get the truck....well...that's kinda not our biz...but we hope you can too I guess?
Occasionally tow a 5,000 lb travel trailer. Plenty of motor in the 1/2 ton 5speed 4.10 rear end '99. Yes the 5.3 has more low end horsepower, but I live at 7,000 ft and tow over 11,000 passes so ya gotta wind out either one. I personally have no regrets about the 4.8L 5speed choice in the 1/2 ton.
If I had to do it over, I would go for the heavier duty frame and tranny and the 6.0L of the 3/4 ton for the towing.
But I wouldn't want to spend more than $23K on a 1/2 ton 4x4 and the 5.3L auto woulda cost an extra 1200 bucks.
BTW, even at wide open 4,000 rpm operation getting less than 8mpg for 15 minutes at a time, temp gauge doesn't budge. Plus the 4.8L's pistons travel alot shorter distance every mile of operation 'cuz the stroke is so much shorter. Probably why those [non-permissible content removed] engines run for more than 150,000 miles at 3,200 rpm on the highway, short stroke.
I remember a while back a discussion about Lund being no drill or drill. Is the Lund Interceptor no drill for the 99 Silverado? I know the Lund Xterminiator is no drill (found something on the web about it), but I can't remember which one someone said they had installed without drilling.
The interceptor is no drill for the 2000. I believe other posts have said it was no drill for 99's as well. The interceptor I got with inserts for square holes under the hood was listed as the 99 model.
I am back to post after about 7000 miles of fun driving with my Reg Cab 5.3 liter Sportside Silverado. I havent added on any aftermarket products yet except for a rhino liner that was sprayed in as soon as I got my truck and some llumar limo tint. I read some posts about a clicking noise on some of the silverados and read something about an exhaust leak before the front porch philosopher got rid of the topic. When I accelerate I have a very noticeable clicking noise that speeds up while I push the gas more. I use 93 octane because I thought maybe it was the pinging some said they experienced but that hasnt cured it at all. Is this most likely an exhaust leak? Does the factory warranty cover me to get it checked out?
Nope not hiding anything. I took Quad's word for it. Plus if you've read any of his actual posts..not the generic ones...it reads as a male would write...or a maleish female. Something's wrong with that last phrase. Best to ask Quad on this one now!
Took a look at the stock airfilter box and airaid. Worth $239? Don't know for sure without Dyno...sounds better though. I would assume that it made a little difference or Evergreen did an awesome marketing job.
To those who have put on a flowmaster muffler to there silverado.
What series did you go with. One meinike dealer told me to go with 50 series and another 40 series. I have also heard to go with 70 series. Which one would be best for performance but without being noisy in the cab.
also ...
Anyone install a soft tonneau cover to there bed? I want to buy one this summer and need some suggestions.
Meredith, May I suggest that you delete all postings in this catagory that are non-truck related. This site has grown into a "KID's Chat Room". If you want to Chitter Chat, go somewhere else and leave this site for "Real Postings". Meredith, when you start deleting, make this post the first one.
Do you have a new Silverado? or are looking to get a Sierra? Maybe have one on order? Would this be considered being on topic? Just wondering cuz this particular topic has always been filled with Chitter Chat as long as I can remember. I guess that usually what happens when Silverado owners get together online...now if you check out the 2000 Sierra topic, you will not find too much Chitter Chat...different type of personalities for them GMC's. Either way, it's your choice similar to which truck you decide on gettin.
2000 reg Cab Sportside all options 5.3L. 350mi. I'll start with...I LOVE MY TRUCK. But I also have the cracked sliding rear window. I'm reading all of the posts here and it kinda mkes me nervous. I've owned 4 Hondas in a row that were trouble free. Thought I'd give GM a chance. I hope they don't let me down.
I could not find a $59 price on IAS shocks for 2wd on the carparts.com site. What am I doing wrong? All I found was the $75 price. I did not see an option to select 2K Silverado in the carparts.com main menu. How do you like the ride with your IAS shocks? I drive city streets with a lot of cracked ashpalt and expansion joints. Would the IAS help the ride over this kind of pavement? Thanks.
Unfortunately there is a problem with the sliding rear windows. GM has stopped manufacturing trucks with them. Take it back to the dealer and have them replace it. The Sierra/Silverado is a good a truck and you shouldn't have any more problems with it once you fix the rear window.
Yes, there is quite a few post here by people who have had problems but there are just as many who have had none. I have 2000 Sierra ext cab Z71 and have had no problems.
The consensus seems to be that the people who have problems tend to be more vocal. Plus the majority of people who own trucks do not even know about this site. If GM was producing as many bad trucks as this site would make you believe it would be all over the news. Good luck with your window and enjoy your truck.
gotribe1 - So if this is on my invoice then dealer orderd them as fleet vechile? One of the trucks was ordered GM employee and other one sold unit. So does this mean the dealer ordered them fleet instead of regular? How many days then does dealer have free interest and other extra things like fuel? Is this good or bad for me that dealer ordered them fleet instead of regular? As a GM employee I am paying invoice minus and other truck is at invoice so this charge is something I have to pay. I found it unusual that there would be a $16.50 charge on invoice and no charge on MSRP. I did not request this option and dealer never mentioned this option.
I believe maybe they did produce quite a few bad trucks...but I for one only tell a select few . I don't know about anyone else but the words "Resale Value" might come into the minds of some of us owners...if perhaps a nationwide knowledge of the problem existed..."The Lemon Years" could plague the owners. Selfish...a little...just watching out for my own investment. My '99 ext. has all the chchchchchevy shshshakes. Still dancing with the dealer, launch shutter is main concern. Just another opinion.....
But I just bought it last week. No one wanted a $26,000 reg. cab I suppose. I guess that's why it has the sliding rear window. I started to get a GMC but they told me I couldn't have it. I hope it wasn't a victim of the "start of model year" woes. I understand about the how vocal people with problems can be. It's just that this is my first domestic auto and I'm kinda nervous. But I installed my nerf bars today and they look great. Splash guards tomorrow and hard tonneau hopefully in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna go with Borla for the exhaust. I happen to like the tips. Then I'm gonna Zaino it and....put it in the garage so the birds can't get to it.
Someone asked about the soft tonneaus - I have a sportmaster and really like it. Easy to roll up when you need the bed exposed, and so far seems to be pretty watertight.
I have the 50 series delta-flow flowmaster muffler. Had the 70 series delta-flow, but wanted more rumble. 70 quietest, 50 louder, 40 even more loud.
What ever you do make sure you get the delta-flow. It has more baffles in it and really ruduces interior resonance. I have virtually none, but my neighbor with a straight two chamber flow (not delta-flow) has tremendously annoying resonance.
I live in Santa Rosa where flowmaster is produced and all the shops around here suggest delta-flow for these trucks.
Congrats on the new truck and quick delivery - I'll concede my 39 days from order til delivery - even though 10 days of that was shipping.
I've read two stories now - GM is shooting for an 8 day order to delivery time frame. This will be with the automation of everything including parts ordering for the line - the kicker here, this isn't predicted to happen for another 4 years.
