I can attest to the differences of the trucks coming off the assembly lines. I'm working in Northern CA. I fly in every week and rent a vehicle from National. They have 7 or 8 Chevy's - ext cab, 4WD, 5.3L engine. I've driven 5 of the trucks I believe - I only remember the different colors. The grey, green, and blue ones rode and drove like a champ - the red and white one have both had little issues that bothered me. They shift funny, and one seems to slip or something when you first take off.
I'm posting because I've been in a situation where I've personally put two to three hundred miles on different trucks, which are configured and built the same. I don't know which factories each came from or for those of you with different theories - which day of the week they were built on. Its just an observation that you can take 5 trucks built alike, and I can promise you they don't all drive and perform the same, I wish I knew the differences.
Just to clear the air - I'm NOT saying one color is better than the next. I am saying - overall the truck is still quite an improvement and being able to drive these was what convinced me to go ahead and upgrade to my new one.

out when i filled up with 76 gas. mine was bumpy from first mile. 1'st tank was shell(known to have dirt in there gas) filled up by dealer(not blaming dealer), 2'nd tank 76 gas idle became smooth, 3'rd tank texaco idle became bumpy but not as bad as with shell, 4'th tank went back to 76 and idle became smooth again (ok antenna bumps once in awhile but nothing like i've seen on some of the other trucks as a matter of fact it only deflects an 1/8 of an inch at most) on 6'th tank now and has not changed only improved. i know this may not be the answer but it's working for me and 2 out of 3 of my friends that have gone to 76. the one that hasn't shown a lot of improvment is my friend with the 6.0 but it doesn't have any problem off the line either.
Hey Scottay, I got my low profile tonneau put on. It was real simple to install and fits nicer than I expected. Looks great. Probably not totally water tight, but seems to seal pretty good. I'm satisfied. Money well spent!

I found 1/2 the answer to the illusive cell phone wiring question. The harness goes from the relay box under the dash, down the track under the driver side step plate, and splits. Half goes under the driver's seat along with the power seat wires and a very thin portion continues toward the rear of the cab. I think that part may go up the wall for a mic. I don't know where the under seat portion goes because it's under the carpet and I didn't bother looking harder.
do they cut it in or is it a stick on?? Or is it a new hood?? I like it - wonder how much it would be - have to wait though - these mods. are starting to add up (read: wife not happy!)...
I got it - have no idea whats included. To make things worse, my dealer (who has tried to find out) has no idea whats included either. I think I threw $50 at GM so they could throw 50 cents of extra wire under the dash.

for the z71 package, it's $285 for the skid plates, bigger shocks, and air cleaner. i know exactly what and where they are, as opposed to some wire that runs under the driver's seat and disappears...personally, i thought that pic was a dodge ram...???

So what did everyone think of the comparison test between the Tundra, Ram, F150 & Silverado (all 4 x 4, xcab, auto)? As I read the article I thought the Silverado was going to be the top choice, then they decided the Tundra "had a slight edge". So the Silverado came in second, UNLESS, as they stated, interior room was a MAJOR concern, then the Silverado was 1st choice.

Looked it up in the service manual. Looks like they just wire a hot lead, accessory lead, ground lead, and radio data lead (?) to a harness between the driver and passenger seats on vehicles without a center console. On those with a center console, it it underneath the removeable cupholder and there is a knockout to extend the wires into the console bin. From this harness there are also two lead wires for a remote microphone. The other ends of the microphone leads are located at the inboard corner of the drivers visor underneath the headliner. Thats all it includes. Hope this helps.

When you read thru the article, the facts and figures sure lead up to a clear Silverado victory, then the result is laughable. I really wouldn't mind it much IF the Tundra was as good as they say, but I just don't see it.
I took a very close look at both the SR5 and Limited versions at the car show this week (I was curious to all the hype), and I must be missing something, because it looks and feels just like a F150 rip off.
I am looking for a new set of mud flaps for my silverado. I currently have the ones that chevy sells just to protect the truck for now but don't really like the way they fit. Any suggestions will be appreciated. By the way it is a 2000 4wd ext. cab without fender flares. I would prefer something that I don't have to drill any holes for.

was for the heavy duty suspension if I remember right. I got that option on my Silverado 2500 2wd x-cab so I could upgrade tires to the 245's. There were no stickers/decals that come w/this option so they must be aftermarket.
If it's a laminated glass you will see the crack along edge or in corners and it will grow from there, if it's tempered it will either be in a pile on the floor or look like marbleized glass, since tempered shatters into pieces for safety purposes. All side/rear windows are all tempered where as the windshield is laminated. I would think the slider would also be tempered but maybe not. If you don't see one don't wish for it, you'll know if you have one it will be visible.
I LOVE MY 00 2500! Ext. cab, 2wd, 2500, 6.0, LS, buckets, console, cd/tape, auto, etc. 600+ miles now and I am loving it more every day. Will have camper shell installed this weekend and take it for my first "trailering" expedition. Plan on pulling 7200# GVW trailer that is probably 200# overloaded (7400#). Will see how it compares to my 91 GMC 4wd/350. Nothing like cruis'n down the freeway with Tammy Wynette CD blast'n! AHH, LIFE IS GOOD!
I changed the oil at 978 and then about 3200 with Mobil 1...I thought it didn't work?...then it came on at about 4700 after I had tried to reset it at 3200....Now it's about 4500-4700 for me. More than half Highway.
Z85 is the Frim Ride package...and the stiffest you can get on a 2500. Although I bet my 2500 Z85 rides firmer than a 1500 Z71?
No, it is in the latest MOTOR TREND!! Its a 4x4 off-road comparison. Motor Trend did another truck comparo awhile back, but they were designed to not be "equally" equipped. (may be the one Ryan is thinking off)

I think they went with the Toy truck because it was several thousand dollars cheaper. Of course, having been given a price that was several thousand dollars too low and belieiving it might have helped.
I don't go for that either Mike. The SR5 version I looked at at the Car Show this week (similar to a mid-grade LS Chevy) had cloth interior, lots of plastic inside, BENCH seat with middle pull down, and MSRP of $29,700. Hell, you can get a well equipped LS with buckets for that.
The Limited version with fake wood grain and Leather buckets was $31,500. I bet it was a "base" limited, if you know what I mean.
Both of these references are for an extended cab 4x4 model.
