It might have electronic throttle (aka Drive-by-Wire). It is on out on the new Tahoes/Suburbans and it makes sense for them to migrate to that sometime soon. Don't know for sure though.

Oh yea, it is also supposed to have an available composite bed this fall, but I haven't heard anything about that is awhile.

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
yes i forgot to add that. it is coming out for the 2001 model as an option somewhere around what the sportside bed costs.

    Joe,

BlueBeast (Ron), rdve80 (Larry) and I (Mike) are all from Austin. Well, we work in Austin. I live in Smithville, about 15mi south of Bastrop. Are you here as well?
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
At least on the 1500s, base models get the small wraparound protector, while LS and LT get the whale tail version.

Until you guys said you had 2500s with whale tails I thought all 2500s got the small version. I don't know about the GMC models at all.

I've only seen about 10 or less 2500s. They are very scarce in Northern California.

Hopefully, soon there will be one more. May, I hope.

nope, haven't done anything to adjust the "level" from front to rear on my truck. it just sits that way. i like it just fine.

  • redsilveradoredsilverado Member Posts: 1,000
i hate to tell you this but, the first number
in tire size is for how wide the tire is.
the second number is for how tall the tire is.
therefore a 285 or 265x75x16 would not affect how
high the truck sits. even Babbs should know this.
  • mtrammellmtrammell Member Posts: 125
The 2nd number in the tire size is the aspect ratio (%of width); therefore if 285s are wider than 265s and the aspect ratio doesn't change, then they are also taller (75% of 285mm is taller than 75% of 265mm).
  • anonymousanonymous Member Posts: 314
SAY what? I'm a tire engineer and that is
the funniest thing i've ever heard. percent of
whatever, where did you ever come up with this,
we're all laughing back here at the office.
  • markbuckmarkbuck Member Posts: 1,021
mtrammell is right, wider tire times same aspect ratio equals taller tire

#327 post hasn't a clue. Must be a tricycle tire engineer.
  • mtrammellmtrammell Member Posts: 125
It's easy to see why you post as anonymous. How about letting us know what tire mfg you work for. I'm sure we are all going to want to avoid them like the plague.
  • anonymousanonymous Member Posts: 314
Know wonder every body laughs at you guys.
    I'll make it reeeal simple f o r y o u.
call a local tire shop and ask.( don't
blame me when they laugh to). like my buddies
said you guys are out there.
  • mtrammellmtrammell Member Posts: 125
    Translation - installs tires.

    you're an idiot
  • anonymousanonymous Member Posts: 314
you see what i mean, it took very little to
get you guys(gals) upset. BTW go back and read
your article and pay close attention, you
are missing something. i would like to point
it out but it's to obvious and would'nt be
fair to the smart Guys(Gals) on this page.

    red
  • mtrammellmtrammell Member Posts: 125
The only thing I may be missing is that the aspect ratio represents the height of the sidewall not the height of the tire. But, height of the sidewall X2 + rim size = total height of the tire and since the aspect ratio represents the % of tire width, it still equates to a taller tire.

Someone who is hated more than i am here.

Tire engineer is that your title? Where did you go to school for that? Im not trying to be an [non-permissible content removed] but ive never heard of a tire engineer whats your degree?

RYAN i'm still laughing, your the only one
that was smart enough to figure out that there
is no such thing as a TIRE ENGINEER. thats also
why your one of my favorite people on this page.
i'm 43 and really enjoy it when the kids see
right through the obvious. this whole time i've
been having a little fun with your penpals.
they always pick on you so i thought it was kinda
fun to show you how easy it wa

Job gotta liven things up in here these people are way to serious.

Ok anyone have the new lund bug deflector called the trident. Its in my new JC whitney magazine. No drilling, no screws metal fasteners. They have them grouped as good, better ( which is the interceptor) and best which is the trident $64.95. Just wondering if anyone has one of these and how they like it.
Also I noticed GTS has new plastic bedrail caps. They look pretty nice. I am really thinking of ordering them.

I hate to interrupt red's entertainment but I have a truck question. Are those allowed here anymore?

My 2500 has a hydraulic brake booster rather than the vacuum unit found on the 1500s and virtually all cars. I've never seen one like this before. Is it better? Why?

I know this is a Silverado page, but awhile ago someone asked when the new Denali's would be out. (I think it was obyone?) Found this link today. Just read the last sentence. Says they will debut soon at the New York Auto Show. Think the new Blazers will be there as well. Just FYI.

No one said it but i can feel it at times. Imnot uptight at all. I agree i take things personally but im not uptight.

Salesman called yesterday and on their computer it shows a TPW of 4-10-00. Im beginning to think GM is full of ^&#%^# and is giving me a load of bs.

Someone mentioned they havent seen many 2500 gmc's. I havent either i think i have seen a total of 2. Ive never seen any on a gmc dealers lots (2 here in my area 1 has about 30 1500's all the time) I see countless chevy 2500 but rarely a gmc. Whats with this they arent big sellers? Any ideas???

GM goal: Topple Ford as truck king
No. 1 automaker is ahead by 6,500 through February

This was in a newspaper article

    Gm sold like 137,000
    ford 131,000

    Just for your information

My truck is a 99 4x4, but I doubt they deleted any grease fittings.

Some of them were impossible to see. Ok, most of them were impossible to see. I had to feel each part of the steering linkage to find them. And like I mentioned earlier, one was nearly impossible to lube.

I will buy a new grease gun with a different end fitting to make it easier to reach the difficult one.

Does hydraulic brake booster mean you have no assist when the engine is off?

Or is there a storage device like the vaccuum chamber on vaccuum assisted brakes?

Lets go camping at Butano, and you can show me. I've only seen hydraulic assist on bigger trucks.

I stopped by my dealer the other day and he has four or five 3/4 ton trucks on the lot. He has both extended cab and regular cab models. I see more GMCs on the road up here then Chevys. Not uncommon considering there is something like 8 GMC Dealers in the area and only 5 Chevy dealers.

Someone was asking if the GMCs use the whale tail spoiler. The answer is no. All GMCs (by this I mean all 1500s and 2500s) come with the flat tailgate protector. The whale tail protector seems to be a Chevy only feature.

congrats on build date. i went through same on
first order and, dealer info was right. i say
first order because dealer forgot to put changes
in the order (buckets and cassette). work out for
me though becuase i ended up with 4dr LS instead
of 3dr. they also ate the cost of the upgrades
to make up for the blunder. also to let you know
about GM's quality, the first truck had take off
(launch) shudders bigtime 4dr runs and rides like
caddy. you'll be more than happy with yours.
friend of mine just took delivery of truck close
to specs like yours and it's perfect.

Red, If you would have taken a moment and let the nueron find the correct path to the portion of the brain you use BEFORE writing a response. You would have read that I asked "how much taller is the 285 vs the 265", NOT "is the 285 taller than the 265".

Well, I think we have another one of those Tundra boys on the Silverado page disguising himself with "redsilverado" userid. Were onto you.

bluebeast, do yall ever get together out at the lake?
  • redsilveradoredsilverado Member Posts: 1,000
    bluebeast(considering the name MACHO) probably
doesn't have a truck at all unless it's a company
truck. that's why he's so jealous of the fact
that your getting one. think about it, anyone
that resorts to name calling is usually a burnt
    out wannabe.

Call GM twice a week (Monday/Friday) for TPW updates, don't get yourself in a tizzy it WILL be built eventually & since you can't pick it up till May/June anyway the later would be better.

Red....... I like Ryan had never heard of a "tire engineer" either but I didn't want to insert foot in mouth & waited to see the outcome, still laughing.......

is starting to show. Remember when Quadrunner500 brought up how you incorrectly spell you're as your? redsilverado, apparently...coincidently, spells it the same way as you do in his last post.

that's why he's so jealous of the fact
    that your getting one.

Call me paranoid...but it's starting to look very suspicious. Opinions anyone?

Jedi from Star Wars. Often referred to as Obiwan by Vader.

So what exactly does a muffler bearing technician do?
  • bluebeastbluebeast Member Posts: 258
duman, Monday was the first time we all met (Chilis for lunch).

red, macho? of course!!, what self respecting man would pick something like: redboy, redtongue, littlered, etc. Oh, do I have a truck? Yep, even verified by 2 other Silverado online chatters in person!! Not proof enough? Check out "truck of the week - Feb 21, 2000" http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/totw/totw_000221.html , "no wanna be" here.

babbler, tricked me? I don't seem to remember responding at all to any of his posts regarding "tire engineer". Only corrected red on his twisting of my question. Quote from babbler: "your always accusing people" (referring to being a Tundra owner), how'd you conclude that? I stated ONCE that I thought you might really be buying one. And the second time I mentioned a person being/getting a Tundra owner was today. Don't test my memory boy, you'll always lose.

All of a sudden, I have developed a wind noise from the top of my antenna at around 70 MPH. Now, being that I live in SOCAL, that's not hard to hit during the every day commute. I think it might be caused by my Bugflector II, being that it might be flexing a little more, but it's only a few months old. I have tried tightening it, but not taking it off to test.

Two questions: First, anyone else with a Bugflector II run into this? Anyone with a Lund for several months, how does it hold up stiffness wise?

    Keith
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
Kieth, I have the Lund Interceptor & have no wind noise whatsoever. Stiffness wise it's holding up just fine & it's guaranteed for life if it breaks and it's easy to get behind for washing purposes. The mounting is solid & NO DRILLING was required, it uses existing prepunched factory hood holes w/nylon inserts for the screws to go in.

Roger, I knew you were lurking out there somewhere LOL, just taking it all in I see. How's that new truck? What have you added so far? I believe you were getting the fifth wheel hitch installed this week right?

Driving down the freeway the other day, I caught a rock off the car in front of me. Dime size bullseye chip right in front of my face was the result. Got it fixed yesterday, 15 min of work, can hardly tell it was there, have to look really close. Beats paying 300-500+ for a new windshield.

I also noticed a chip in the paint on the hood. If I had a bug deflector it would not be there. I have to start looking for one of those.

Just got off the phone with Hypertech; they are about to release the new programmer. They changed the part number for the 5.3L motor. The new part # is 30003. They also said that it has more programming options. For those of you that have it on order, I would call to make sure you get the new part number.

relax we're just razzin' you. nice truck if that
is your truck. i remember you stating that you
had an MPC bug guard (only thing you and i have
in common) but i did not see one on this truck.
BTW the MPC is ok except your right about getting
behind to wash but, then again it comes right off
so there isn't a problem as far as i'm concerned.
i like it becuase it almost lays flat and doesn't
cuase any wind or noise problems. it's one of
those to each is own things i guess.

does anyone have any info on tailgate locks?
