Oh, I failed to mention the KBB book was a consumer edition. I think KBB publishes a different one for dealers. It shows the dealer loyalty of the KBB. Bob

I recently had my Change Engine Oil Indicator come on in my truck and was somewhat surprised to see it. I had changed the oil just 3,000 miles ago but had not really driven in adverse conditions, so I checked the dipstick to see if the oil looked bad. It was a light golden brown color, nothing close to be in need of a change, so I looked in the owner's manual. I had not reset the Change Engine Oil Indicator in the computer the last time I changed the oil. I read further and saw that the computer calculates the amount of revolutions the engine has had and the temperature to come up when the oil needs to be changed, but their is no actual sensor that senses excessive sluge or debris in the oil. My question is what good is the Change Engine Oil Indicator for if it doesn't actually read the condition the oil is in vice just a timer when to change the engine oil. I would think, if possible, GM would have an actual sensor in the engine block sensing the status of the oil, which in turn would benefit the owner much better.

I started racing motocross in high school. That was until last year; April 20, 1999 to be exact. That was the day when I broke 3 vertabrae in my back during practice!! Three days in the hospital, 16 weeks in a brace, and still having pain was enough to give it up. This was also my third major injury, fractured pelvis and serious concussion (of course all the other sprained ankles, cuts, bruises, etc... as well). I love the sport and miss it, but would rather not risk it. Who knows someday I might get a YZ 426 and "putt around." My last race was 250 intermediate.

Unless you drive in dusty conditions where actual dirt can enter the system, the change algorithm is actually quite accurate. Except for the anal types that change every 2000-3000 miles, even if its all freeway...

Is there a device you can buy to check the air fuel mix out the tailpipe (and how much $)? I'm a little concerned with the mods. I've done now, but the truck runs good...
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Yeah it doesn't sense the oil so to speak...but the theory is the best you can do for now. Dusty roads should change more often.
But Mine seems to be about 4700 mile Intervals and I drive 60/40 highway and city....so by the time I actually do it...5000 or so has gone by and that's about when it's time for the Mobil 1 5-30 to come out.

So I am satisfied with the system so farr.

You said your received your Husky Liner Molded Mud Flaps. What do you think of them? Are they worth the money? Have you test fit them on a truck on a lot somewhere? Do they come with hardware to install?

I'd like to get some, but would like an opinion of someone who has them in hand. I will need a set for a truck with factory flares also.

    Thanks,

just got done an hour ago. first one at 3430 miles. old oil looked pretty rough, will be interested to see what this batch looks like after 3-5k more. had a buddy of mine who's a certified mechanic show me some of the other maintenance tips. reading earlier, someone said they found 13 grease fittings under the front end. we only found 8. anyone else wanna weigh in? thanks...

...it was kind of a pain. Had to remove the wheels to get them on (285 tires). Got them at Advance for $9 per pair ($18 total). Thick rubber type - I like them better than the molded ones for flexibility. The also had the molded ones for about the same price, so I wouldn't spend to much for the factory ones...

I went to get another Load of drywall today.

before i went...I pumped the rears up to 80....after 13 miles of highway...they were 84PSI....I loaded 36 sheets of drywall...(about 2000 lbs or so?...maybe more?...it seemed like more?)

checked the pressure after the load was in...

    ....What do you think happened??

    - Tim
  • werkingwerking Member Posts: 431
    a) i need another beer
    b) ya'll need to see how many grease fittings there are under the front half of the truck
(found none under the back, incidentally)
    c) the pressure was 86 psi loaded

Happen to catch the truck in the full sun (was gonna take pics for you guys with my new digital camera), and on the passenger side along the bed rail..about 1.5 feet long, are two layers (top and a little lower) of about 50 little scratches. They appear to be under the clear coat. Dealer said to bring it in on Monday. Stopped over at church tonight, and mentioned it to someone else there, and he said, yeah, I saw the scratches a week or so ago - thought you knew. So park that baby in the sun., and take a good look when she comes.
  • rskrsk Member Posts: 38
You were most likely in the store for say an hour to an hour and half while they loaded the drywall and you looked at all the stuff.

    (A) You either would like to have but you don't have the space for it.

    or

    (b) The wife won't let you have. Unless you come up with a really good excuse.

So the tires had time to cool for a little while so I'm going to say they were back to around 80.

Does anyone know where to buy wheel well liners for the 2K Silverado? I saw some in an older JC Whitney catalog but their current catalog doesn't list them. These polyethelyene liners appear to be molded to incorporate a mud flap. They might solve two problems for me 1) stone throwing up on the rear quarters behind the rear wheels, and 2)difficulty in cleaning the rear wheel wells, especially where the sheet metal is crimped together and forms a sharp edge on the upper middle top side of the wheel well.

Just got in with it about an hour ago. Black Z71, loaded. Very nice ride. Sewell, in Dallas, has been very good to work with. Sticker was only $25 different than what we had planned - and that was as has been heavily discussed - the destination charge. Ended up with the new Z71 sticker, which is OK, just had gotten used to the old one. First music - Johnny Cash, only other thing fitting would have been some Meryl or others along those lines.

Weather has been nasty here today so I'm not able to get the Zaino on it, hopefully tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. Those of you watching the Nascar race know what the weather is like around here. Also tire store closed at 5, so I'll get the tires Monday morning. If I get it cleaned up I'll get some pics and get em scanned.

And for those I've been telling it was going to be built in Wentzville, MO - I don't know what the GMC reps have been smoking (they told me the same thing 3 times) - it was built in Canada - so thanks to our friends up North.

    And the real kicker - Ordered February 21 - delivered 3 days under 6 weeks - 39 days total !! I'm impressed.

And since I picked mine up Sewell has an allocation if you're ready to order. Go see J. R. or Trevor, they are both good guys.

Good luck to all still waiting, its worth it.

They are very nice mudflaps. Id compare them to the chevy mudflaps (ones with the bowtie dealers get)hard molded plastic. I havent had a chance to match them to a truck havent found one with fender flares (trying to stay away from chevy dealers). Monday ill get the instructions out and post how to install it for you ok. It does come with all the screws and fasteners you will need. For a place that sells them go to the website and call the 1-800 # and they will find the closest place and if they cant you can order direct very nice people i forgot the ladys name. Out of all the mudflaps i have seen these are by far the best that are made for the factory fender flare.

Thanks for the CS phone number!

I understand that tomorrow 3 April 2000 is the cut-off date for the last 2000 orders. Can anyone confirm this? Any hope of ordering the Silverado after that date?

hey, scottay, just bought tonneau at autozone for 199.99. Haven't installed yet, probably will w
ednesday. I'll let you know about the fit. Also I live in Ohio and never heard of zaino wax, whats so special about it? sounds like you guys think its heads above the rest.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
I havent seen a site i think its to new thusfar. Go to your local chevy dealer im sure they have at least one on the lot. If your worried you wont like it dont worry i got pretty mad when i heard it changed but it looks nice.

Cutoff date? April? I heard the cutoff for 2000 orders is in may sometime i believe june is when they shut the plants down for a few wks and after that they start the 2001 trucks. Joe im sure you can order it after the date but the truck might have a 2001 born on date for the sticker. Might want to order it before though prices will increase probably like last yr.

Thanks for the number majormorgy i think ill give them a call monday just to check and make sure the dealer is giving me the correct information im sure he is im just starting to get impatient and want it here already.

    is nice....(mail order only)

But it's not all it's worked up to be as the King of Waxes.

Malms (mail order as well) is farr better.

Or go to a local paint supply and buy some 3M Hand glaze for an awesome shine on Black.

    Good luck

Will that work on blue as well? haha im sure it does. How much is malms, zaino????? Doesnt have to be exact just an appx would be nice thanks

    gkdad -
i don't disagree with tim, only cuz i've never seen/used malms. i used zaino on my black 00 z71 and i'm really impressed. really makes dark colors glow and shine. good protection (water beads up real nice for 4-6 months after application), easy on/off, no swirl marks. altogether a really nice product. i bought into the whole line - car wash, pre-wax, wax, and it's only about $25 less s&h. i'd have to see something noticibly better sitting next to my truck for me to change. i think the link for zaino is www.zainobros.com and their stuff is all mail order only. here's the link to one pic that i took of mine after zaino. note the white splotch on the driver's door is the reflection of my bucket and towel.

    http://www.teleweb.net/mgdvhman/KyleZaino1.jpg

tim - not trying to be confrontational here...but have you ever seen or used zaino? just curious as to whether you've done a side-by-side or if you like malms so much you can't believe anything would be better. interesting note on the tire pressure. go info to know.

That is the date my dealer gave me also. Just got my order in before that.

    Now come the waiting again.

If you didn't get your order in, you have two choices:

    1. Have your dealer check around. I found a truck that was only two options off from what I wanted. And my requirements were very specific and difficult (manual trans). It is possible to get what you want.

    2. Wait and order a 2001.

Although the Wheels site did say some of the cutoff dates were changing, they didn't say which ones.

it wasn't meant to be an attack on Zaino...it's just that is the buzz these days and farr better products are out there....or just as good with more wax per your dollar.

I have used malms on my Black Hurst/olds for years and it is sweet. I also use Glaze before shows to enhance it. Glaze does nothing but do that...Glaze it..and enhance the shine.

A friend bought Zaino and used it on his Red GTP...he wasn't too impressed. It was damn nice...but not all the hype it had on line.

Again...Good Product..not the only thing out there though..

You may or may not see the difference?

Malms has been a while since I needed it? It's about $60 a quart...and like Zaino..a tiny bit goes a long way.

    Good luck

I was wondering if anyone out there has added a grill-guard that they really like? I have looked at some and haven't found any I really like yet.I prefer a frame mounted guard with either a chrome or maybe a black finish.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
have any of you tried this one?

    http://www.zymol.com/vintage2.htm

at $1402.50 for 22 ounces must be one helluva glaze. Just wondering...
  • werkingwerking Member Posts: 431
a couple of them zymol things. actually, it appears, if you read the fine print that $1650 includes free refills. damn well better! maybe them tundra guys who can afford so much for so little truck will be buying up the zymol...

I have a Manik stainless steel grill gurard on my truck. It mounts on the brackets for the tow hooks. i am very happy with it overall, already hit a deer and didnt do any damage to the truck or guard. I also have a pair of KC daylighters on them, daylighter is definitely right. They are only the 100 Watt model but they are bright.

What is everyones opinion on the jba headers. I know that they help the engine breath better but how much interior resonance do they really add to an otherwise stock system. Anyone have them and care to comment?
  • anonymousanonymous Member Posts: 314
    hi joe,
just wanted to know if you're the same guy i
know at duracite. if you are i just knew you
would copy me & go out & buy a chevy. if
you're not the same guy then i apologize
& wish you luck on your order, you're
    gonna need it.

  • jpmcjpmc Member Posts: 5
I haven't seen the Manik brand grille-guard. Where did you get it?
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
I am assuming that you are referring to the shorty headers. In an independent test, the shorty headers perform well above 3000 rpm while the long tube type helps to develop more torque in the lower rpm band. All depends what your requirements are. As far as in cab resonance, it is minimal even with airaid and jba's. Noticeable resonance came after installing the catback and not the headers. In fact with the headers and stock exhaust could not tell by listening that headers were installed.

I just called gm to check and make sure my truck is being built next wk and guess what??? The order has been accepted but NO TPW has been assigned. Someone (dealer or gm) is full of you know what. What a way to start off the week. Well i have some more phone calls to make. Any ideas on who is right dealer tpw 4-10 of gm no tpw???

    Ryan
  • scottayscottay Member Posts: 91
My dealer was always a few days behind. Relax, you cant force them to go faster. Just check back once a week, maybe you will be pleasantly surprised when it comes in early!

Thanks for the Tonno info, please keep me posted!

Zaino gets my vote. Its a Show Car system. The more you use it, the deeper and wetter the look. 99.9% optically clear. Gives a 3D effect to your paint. Also has UV protection. Give it a whirl, but use it before you put any other kinds of wax on. -scott
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
You can't get the truck till May/June anyway so why get all torqued about TPW....RELAX! It will get built, a little later is better for you so it is not subjected to numerous gaukers if it sits on lot for any length of time, more potential to be scratched that way, don't you agree??????

Scottay..... While zaino may be a good wax I have never heard of a truck/car getting sunburned so UV protection???? I have always used NuFinish & am quite happy with it, easy to apply & take off.

    Ray T.
  • werkingwerking Member Posts: 431
never heard of a car/truck getting sunburned either, but i have seen uncared/undercared for paint fade due to overexposure to the sun. it's just like anything else man. depending on where you live (i know, you're in new york, so you're prob'ly fairly safe) the sun does some pretty wicked things to everything you own. i'm originally from pa, so never had any problems till i moved to south carolina. now, i make sure i have a coat of protectant on my vinyl dash (i've seen many not-too-old cars with cracks and warps in their dashes). and you can bet that whether it's zaino, malms, nu-finish, turtle-wax or anything else, if it wants to go on my vehicle, it better have uv protection. as i stated before, zaino isn't too expensive and i agree with scott - it gives an unprecedented glow to my paint. maybe next round i'll try the malms that tim swears by. whatever it is, it will be uv resistant...

Im not anxious its just that im getting 2 stories i guess u can say run around and that is what is making me upset. I would like it built towards the end of april but dont lie to me about when its getting built. I want a straight forward answer. About the truck being scratched you sound LIKE MY MOM man chill when it comes in the are putting it in this like big pole barn thing in the back of the lot where they put their sold vehicles already made arrangements. No one but employees will have a chance to see it.

    Ryan
  • bob332bob332 Member Posts: 137
Ryan, I really feel for you that it is taking so long to get your truck. Has got to be very frustrating. I would go with what GM says as they are in control once the order has been sent to them. Are you sure the dealer gave you the correct order number? I ordered on March 16 and have a TPW of April 10 from GM customer service. Hang in there! Bob

Hi guys...I bought a '00 Silverado LS 4x4 Z71 4 door ex-cab 5.3 auto last Saturday. I had been reading the mileage wasn't that good on these trucks and I was even more fearful with the 4.10 gears.

Well, part of the deal was that the dealer would swap out my new Michellin 265/75R16 tires that were on my '93 Chevy for the 245/75R16's the were on this new truck.

Anyway, I know my odometer is off but I took a trip this weekend from 5700 feet elevation to 6500 feet and then back down threw 3 small towns containing approximately 10-15 stoplights. I didn't baby it....passed numerous people.

The trip odometer read 80.6 miles (I think it's closer to 90) and I put 3.9 gallons in when I got back....and I squeezed the nozzle 3 times to make sure it was full. I may have actually put more in then I started with.

Therefore, conservatively I got 20.667 mpg and I believe I actually got closer to 23 mpg.

Has anyone else seen this? Could it be the thin air at this altitude?

Hell, I even let my wife drive it for 5-7 miles...LOL.

Also, I have the Indigo Blue with Pewter on the bottom and it sucks....I'm too scared to get it scratched. Sure looks good though.
  • bob332bob332 Member Posts: 137
One more thought Ryan. I would call GM again, today. Maybe the person on the phone got mixed up on the order number. Good Luck! Bob
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
She took the order # and my name. She told me the order was accepted by gm March 14th which the dealer told me. She said no target production week has been assigned to it yet. My salesman is going to call gm and see whats up today when he gets in i left him a message. Im gonna get it straightened out.

Im hanging in there im not to impatient yet. Ill let u know whats up when i find out
