Can't confirm the exact amount due at signing, but he suggested over text that only the $406 was due. Was this potentially a good deal?

Hopefully some incentives materialize by then to bring that number down somewhat. $350 would be ideal. I'd sign right away.

Hah, are you me? I'm from northwest chicagoland area. Every dealer I've gone to, I've put my number at $350, and they're not even close. Usually mid 400s. My Passat lease is up start of September, so I'm in no rush. If I can't find something by mid August, I'll probably go with the R-Line.

Looks like 36 months would be the better deal.
