Debadging didn't affect the trade in value of my last car. If it's needed, dealers can get that stuff dirt cheap and it only takes a few seconds to apply them.

Okay, whatever class it was, the point is...I highly doubt he's ashamed of what he's driving. The back end looked very clean and smooth without all that "chrome" lettering cluttering it up.

Removing some words does not make one think he/she is driving something more expensive than it really is. After all, they are the one paying the note on it. About the only thing it does is make folks ask WHAT he's driving.

Come on Derrel...you're stretching a bit.

"Come on Derrel...you're stretching a bit."

    Not really.
Out here, where such a large percentage of the vehicles on the road are MBZs, many people play the game of trying to drive a less expensive 'C' class model and hoping that people will think it is a more expensive model.
Many people with the relatively less expensive 'E' class cars do the same thing.

It has nothing to do with how much the person is paying for their vehicle but
what they are trying to make others think their vehicle actually costs.

Just how many 'S' class cars does a person see where the model letter badging has bee removed?

    :)
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
If YOU say so, maybe that's just how you justify it in your own mind.

Actually, to answer your question...a lot of S-Class owners, 7 & 5-Series owners...all remove the badging off the trunk lid.

Yes, there will be some that will do the whole debadging thing for the purpose you're stating, but...MOST do it because it looks good.

Just because you don't or wouldn't do it doesn't mean that the reason everyone else does it is just to make others think they have a more expensive car than it really is. Before you go running around stating why folks do it, why don't you take a poll so you can have accurate information, rather than personal opinion...you might be surprised at how far off you could very well be.

Let's give it a rest guys. This has been an ongoing debate since last year. To each his own and let's leave it at that. Enjoy your ride!

I have a question about the mud flaps for an 07 Azera. Do they mount using the existing screws in the wheel well or is drilling required?
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE:488
Same screws. Easy job. You need a stubby screwdriver, or a 1/4 Inch driver with a screwdriver bit.

I still can use some advice on the easiest way to replace the stock grill with the non "H" model.
I see that there are seven screws that hold unit in place.
How can you reach them without removing bumper?
I have removed top black plastic cowl over radiator but that doesn't appear to give access to screws.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi - I moved some posts to a more logical place for the conversation and suggestions. Here's the link: skeeter6, "Hyundai Sonata Maintenance and Repair" #2042, 14 Jun 2007 11:52 am.

    Pat
I would think that the purpose of the Forum is to give members as much information as possible.
Are you suggesting that if a member had information regarding a concern of a Forum participant, they should not share it if that information came from a different forum?
    Doesn't make sense to me.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
No, it was necessary to remove a couple of posts and I'm just reminding everyone of the terms of the Membership Agreement. Email me if you want to discuss this further. Thanks.

I installed the non "H" grill in my Azera today. Thanks to the advice of forum members the job wasn't too bad. I just wish that I had smaller hands. I did not realize that the grill removal was only at the top, adjacent to the radiator.
A screwdriver bit in my 1/4 inch drive was a necessity.
    The finished project looks great.

Bob, how many screws were there? This was simply unscrew, lift up, drop in replacement and rescrew? I believe someone mentioned 7. Did you get the grill from Korean Auto Imports?

    Thanks
  • jack_spratjack_sprat Member Posts: 29
Did you take any step by step pictures ? if not, will the next person doing their grill swap, please take pics and post.

    RE; 505
There are 7 screws holding the grill.
    I purchased grill from DreamKa4u.com.
    Price was $99.00 delivered.
As I needed Sage Green (M9) I ordered pearl gray and paid $90 to have painted.
The install required removing the black plastic cover behind the grill. (Plastic Screws). Next removing the 2 10 mm bolts securing the top of the bumper cover to the sheet metal near the top sides of the radiator. Pulling the bumper cover forward after slightly raising it to release it from the pins next to the bolt holes gives access to the back of the grill.
Use a Phillips head screwdriver bit in a 1/4 inch drive to unscrew the seven screws. Some cursing helps to feel the screw heads. Reverse the process to install.
The cursing took most of the 1 hour to complete the job,
  • dborthdborth Member Posts: 474
Thanks for explaining the procedure. Sounds like a job for my grandson. ;)

    Is he better at cursing?
  • dborthdborth Member Posts: 474
Re 508: He's 3, and I think autistic. Far better qualified to do this job than me. I know my limitations.

It just proves that smart thinkers buy Hyundai.
Or is it that we are cheap? I can't remenber,

    Re the "H" less grill.

Speaking of smart, your purchase of the grill from Dreamka4u @ $99.00 delivered sure beats the hell out of Korean Auto Imports @ $149.00 + shipping.

    Good day Pat,

Can you find the post I put in last year on removing and installing the 'grill' and post it for these folks? Due to all the 'new' headings and sorting I have no idea of where it might be.

    Thank you

Your post number 2172 in the 2006 Azera Forum is the one that I followed to perform the grill switch.
It was very informative, and I thank you.
I was only confused about the thought of removing the bumper, not realizing that you meant only releasing the top part of the bumper cover.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
I see Bob found it for you, but for future reference let me tell you what to do. It's really very simple. Go to the group level (here) and you'll see a Search Hyundai Azera box on the gray bar above the discussion list. That will search all the discussions in the group.

    Try it sometime! :)

Has anyone had a great experience with an after market installed Bluetooth?
If so what brand did you use, and how was the installation?

As a new Azera owner I've been reading through the forums and book marking all the great sites for Azera accessories. So I thought why not make them available to all of us. I created a web page on my server with links to Anything Azera. Let me know what you think.

No problem at all. Any plans to "hook" up your Azera? I love the body kit that's sold on Korean Auto Imports. I think it'll set mine off nicely!!!
  • pastorspastors Member Posts: 29
For now I plan to change out the grille with the non "H" version, add the mud guards, install a bluetooth hands-free for my phone. Beyond that I haven't given it much thought. I'll check out the body kit though I'm generally fairly conservative these days.

    Pastor Shaun

PS. I may add a "I'm With Fred" bumper sticker

I found it very interesting to check out some of the parts on the various sites mentioned. I was particularly interested in the suspension and braking mods. I would love to know if anyone has gone so far as to swap out bushings, new front strut bar, and the coil over springs. Looks like about $2,700 in parts.

The other upgrade I would be interested in hearing about would be to replace the current front brakes with a 12" drilled rotor and two piston calipers.

While we know the Azera was not built as a sport sedan, I would think these mods would move it pretty far in the direction of a very solid sport sedan, all for around $3,200 in parts.

Jaymagic...this was something that was posted in another forum. I think you may find this of interest!

    Azera Suspension Upgrade

  • jaymagicjaymagic Member Posts: 309
Thanks for the links. As I plan on keeping my Azzy for a few years, I am interested in how to upgrade the suspension to be a little more sporty, and if I do that, I would also want to bump up the braking. I noticed on some of the Korean parts websites, that they offer a choice of at least three different shock setting in their coil over suspension packages. I will probably wait to get some feedback from users as to how stiff the sport level really is.

I think I will probably go with the recommendations via the link supplied as to upgrading brake pads first, although the cross drilled 12.0 rotor and dual piston calipers are calling to me.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
The adjustable coil overs would be great because you could set them for what suits your type of driving at a given time.

I replaced my rear pads with ceramic pads already, when I replace the fronts again...they'll get the ceramic upgrade as well. Not sure if I'll do the cross drilled 12" rotors and dual pistion calipers, but we'll see.

My Azera is nearing 10K miles and I want to replace the cabin air filter. I haven't been able to find this part anywhere on the web. Where have people been buying this part (besides the dealer) and how much are you paying? Thanks in advance.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE 533
Checked my cabin air filter after 1 year and 20K miles.
    Small amount of dirt.
I used air hose and blew in out and it looks like new.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
I replaced my cabin air filter at about 11,000 miles and it was filthy as there's a lot of road construction going on hereabouts, cleaning this nasty thing with compressed air was not an option!

I paid about $30 at the dealer (they had to go and ORDER the part) and later, dirty filter in hand for measurements, went to the internet and found nothing of comparable size, so I went to Lowes and bought a top-quality (rated at 1700 whatevers) home AC air-handler disposable filter for about $20, one big enough to give me FOUR Azera-sized filters, after I cut it down into four parts and seal the edges with some duct tape. In about another 8k miles or so, I'll do the deed and see how it works, but if it's good enough to trap 98% of the "cat dander" and the like, I think I'll be pleased with what it does in my car's cabin... :shades:
  • pastorspastors Member Posts: 29
I haven't order one yet but appears is available from AutoBarn at $18.33

You'll need to drill down under Hyundai 2006 - ACC Cabin Filter - Azera

Thanks ... I just ordered it. I'll let everyone know how it goes in a week or so.

Installed my Mud Guards last night. Mud Guard Photos Not bad for $55

It took about 20 minutes per wheel. Best way to get to the screws is to remove the wheel then install the Mud Guards.

If you can change a tire you can install them.

There is an easier way to install the mud guards. I bought mine through the dealer right after I bought my 06 Azzy Ltd.
Get out your small ratchet and fine the size that fits the phillips screw bits for your drill. Put the bit in the socket and use that as a "wrench" to remove the old screws and put in the new ones. For the front wheels, turn hard to the right to do the right guard and hard to the left to install the left guard. You don't need to remove the wheels.

    RE; 539
    Agreed!
Mine took about 15 minutes to install all four.
