I'm wondering about the lease on JGC limited 4x4 I did four years ago now that I'm renewing the lease on the same make and model at the same dealer. It had the sunroof, navigation, and heated seats & steering wheel, FYI. Overall, I think I would be paying $70 less than my last lease. Can you look at these numbers from my last lease? (I'm taking out the cents):

msrp: 42,400
gross capitalized cost: 43,908
capitalized cost reduction: 8,588
adjusted capitalized cost: 35,319
residual value: 19,080
rent charge: 2,480
total base monthly payments: 18,720
lease payments (48 months): 390

In summary, I got 48/10k lease and paid $4,821 upfront that covered tax (2,408), first lease payment (390), dmv (319), bank fee (1,295), doc (429), etc (299). This time, I managed to do 48/12k with $400/mo, $1k down upfront that covered first month payment and everything else. I don't have the numbers like the ones above for this new lease yet because I walked in 50 minutes before the dealer was closing, so tonight they just took $1k from me for upfront payment and I need to go back tomorrow to sign the contract and finish off everything. I just want to double check if I got a great great great deal or whether I could have done better? If I could have, can I still walk away without signing the lease tomorrow? Please advise!! Without the lease numbers for the US Bank program from 4 years ago (MF, RV and incentives), we aren't able to answer your question.

Besides, why does it matter? That lease is almost over; look forward and focus on the new lease. The more details you can get from the dealer, the more we can help you.

Hi, so I did my homework and got the following numbers from the same dealer I walked out on a previous deal. They were nice to sit down and work on the numbers with me. This is for 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 only without sunroof.

I get around $405 monthly payment but the dealer is getting $425.
We tried to figure out the discrepancy and noticed that I'm applying tax as the last step of the calculation and the dealer is adding it at the beginning along with the fees. 6.625% tax NJ. There might other stuff that I'm not seeing. Any advice?

What adjusted price are you using for your payment calculation? What is the dealer using? That's really the only point of difference. If you are taxing the monthly payment, that is incorrect in NJ. You have to take the sum of the payments, tax that, then add that amount back into the cap cost. However, that shouldn't result in a $20/mo difference.

What about the dealer and acquisition fees? How are those being accounted for? As part of the $2360?

The dealer and acquisition fees are included in $2360; $1960 (for $695 acquisition, $410 registration, window etching $299, tire tax $7, and doc fee $549) and estimated first month payment.

The dealer and I both are using the same adjusted price, $31,846. However, I think I've figured out complications with tax:
- I just learned that there's 0.4% luxury tax for vehicles priced $45,000 or greater OR on vehicles having an EPA rating of less than 19 miles per gallon. JGC has EPA of 18/25. (Selling Price x 0.04% = ~$150)
- I also read rebates are taxable. $8500 x 6.625% (~$563)
- The sum of payments (depreciation amount) x 6.625% = ~$749

Adding these 3 amounts back into the cap cost (adjusted price) gives me $426/mo, close to what the dealer has. Thank you so much again for your help.
