I started out loving my Civic, but not any more. I let a passenger out of my vehicle and when they shut the door the side air bag deployed!! Talk about heart failure! Brought it to my Honda Service department and was told that it shouldn't have deployed. They called the rep and he said it was an insurance problem. This vehicle was not involved in any accident, so I called American Honda Customer Service and have talked to three different people and 1 out of three agreed with me and the other two say Insurance problem. Called the insurance company they say it's Honda's problem. Go figure. This is going to be a costly repair so I'm asking if anyone out there has experenced this too and what did you do about it. By the way there is a recall on some 06 Civic's (not mine of course) for the ODS Front Air Bag system.
It is 100% a manufactures defect on your vehicle. End of story on that.
Also, that is why I am trading, nothing but problems with my car and there is not a week where I enjoy driving the car without some noise or something aggitating me.
Insurance issue? Balderdash! Get back on the phone with Honda and escalate as high as you have to to get someone to acknowledge responsibility. Your car is under warranty, has NOT been in an accident, and thus there is no basis, other then a defect/malfunction for the airbag to have deployed. There is no way that closing the door should cause that (I do not believe that a human can close the door forcefully enough to trigger an airbag - superman maybe, but a normal human, no).
Thank you. I thought I was getting macular degeneration. I noticed when I wear my sunglasses, there is a dark area in the speedometer. I really never dreamed it could be the car. I am reading through this message board on the 2006 Civic. Several problems with it all of a sudden, and lots of grief from the dealership. Most recent problem, car was stuck in "park". I would have to step on and off the brake pedal a dozen times to get it into Drive or Reverse. The dealership ACTUALLY tried to tell me that there wasn't much they could do. Finally, when THEIR own technician couldn't move the car, they replaced the switch. Also, it took me FIVE trips to the dealership to replace a gas cap that kept tripping on my check engine light. The gas cap had very obvious torn seal. I am getting the feeling that this is a very cheaply put together car.
Funny, but I'm more impressed with my Si sedan than I've been with the build quality of previous Honda products with regard to NVH issues. Also, the interior quality is better than even my mother's TL-S,in regard to appearance, usable space and noise. My main issue is the front suspension "pop" that appears to be a incorrectly manufactured bump stop.
Thanks for the support!! Since I posted my last message I contacted my insurance company and they have agreed to open a claim and send out an adjuster. This will help to prove no collision. The service manager at the dealership has contacted the rep and is really going to bat for me. He asked me to have the adjuster come to the dealership to exam the car so they can put it on the lift and allow him or her to totally go through the car plus we will have witnesses as to the examination. That way there will be no doubt that this is a defect. That's what I call a DANG GOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT that they would fight for me this hard!!!!!!! I still have hope.
Thanks Targettuning. That's kind of what I figured -- that the air conditioning isn't defective because it operates well, but that it's perhaps an engineering fault. The system should have been designed to accomodate idling better.
It's really more of an annoyance than a true problem for me, and I truly can't complain about its performance when moving (it gets cold, which is more than I can say for my last car!)... So maybe this is best left as 'if it ain't broke don't fix it.'
I have a 2006 Civic LX over a year with 12k miles, very recently started experiencing similar noise problems while turning the steering wheel. "Noise that comes when you open old door". I've yet to contact the dealer.
Right front end clunk over certain bumps. Oil stains near left front wheel - Left Strut? Occasional clank in front end after depressing the brake pedal. Steering creak when car is cold or sits for hours “Noise that comes when you open old door"
I’m beginning to wonder if Honda have been placing Hyundai labels onto the Honda vehicles. Deep inside the Civic LX engine is a label reading “assembled in China”
No, Honda isn't placing Hyundai labels on Honda vehicles. If they had, at least your car would be warranted for 10 years and may not have the kind of problems you are experiencing. As for the engine being made in China, I doubt it, but Honda does manufacture cars in China, so...
I have also experienced this problem on my 2006 LX sedan. This summer I brought it to the dealer and of course they hadn't heard of any AC issues, but did admit the AC runs colder when accelerating. His suggestion was to run the AC with AC switch on and the recirculate switch on. (not MAX AC). I've been doing this since and believe it or not the car is like an ice box at times. There is still a bit of hot air blowing upon start up on very humid days, but I don't notice the hot air at stop lights. Compressor still cycles on and off. I still think there is a design issue, but it has worked better past couple months.
I have the same right front end noise when going over certain bumps. Has Honda been able to diagnose this issue for you? I have not had any success yet. Thanks for your input.
I had the same issue with my AC system...warm air would blow from the vents when the car was stopped. Dealer diagnosed my AC system to be low in charge. They recharged the AC system and so far no warm air when I am stopped in traffic. They also put a dye in the system so they can check for leaks if the warm air returns in the near future. Hope this helps.
You know it still amazes me this..."Honda must be placing Hyundai labels on Honda vehicles" type of rationalization when a Honda turns out to be not what was expected. It is as if Hyundai is the one making "bad" vehicles here. As always I doubt you even sat in a new Hyundai let alone drove or owned one. Hyundai ain't the automotive joke it may have been...what? 20 years ago? It is HONDA who is having trouble building a quality Civic, certainly not Hyundai. Yeah I own a 2006 Civic EX sedan and yeah I don't believe it is that great either. Further we have owned Hyundai products and several members in our family still do so I have had experience with both brands.
Honda has issued a service bulletin (#06-060) that potentially addresses this issue. It turns out a right side motor mount is the culprit. Good luck however in demonstrating the noise to your service dept's satisfaction. I tried, and the "noise couldn't be duplicated" but not 10 miles down the road on my way home it did the same noise..still does. No fix for me anytime soon unless a tech. hears it.
#1 with regards to Honda quality. based on my 06 civic, the Honda "reputation for great vehicles" does not stand with me anymore. I already went looking for new cars this weekend. I am willing to take the loss (negative equity) to get into a car that does not annoy me so much.
#2 with regards to Hyundai, right now, they are a major player and they are making cars that are equal and or better at this point than Toyota and or Hyundai. This is practically fact already based on many articles and reviews I have read. The only reason I don't buy Hyundai right now is that replacement parts are very expensive and should you have an accident, claims are very high due to the expensive parts.
#3 with regards to the motor mount, I had mine done right when the correct revised mount came out. It took me 4 visits and the last visit I took the TSB down and proved my car fell into range. Even though the tech said he did not hear it, after the replacement, the dreaded right hand clunk was gone and has not returned.
If Honda keeps up this type of service and quality, it very well be my last Honda.
Hope everyone will drop by our Dealer Ratings & Reviews feature and let everyone know how you feel about your experiences at your dealership - service and sales both, if you'd like.
I've had nothing but good experiences with the dealer I've gone to. Prescott Honda in Arizona used to be York Honda but was sold and the wonderful service has remained. I've purchased 3 vehicles there now and it would have been just one except for the problems I had with the 2002 Civic that scared me a little into trading it for a 2003 CRV. I decided I wasn't really an SUV person so that's why I've gone back to the Civic. I took it in last week for a minor power steering leak, they gave me a loaner and I had my car back the next day. Their mechanics are trained by Honda and you can talk to them without feeling stupid. Even though the drive is not my favorite (over 100 miles round trip on mostly 2 lane highways) it's worth it.
That's great! I do hope you'll report this at the link I gave in my previous post - that would be helpful to everyone in your area looking for good work.
Somewhere in the Honda Civic site there was a complete posting of the Bulletin (#06-060) back when it first was issued. Maybe an administrator can help you find it.
I've got a 2006 EX coupe with 27G miles and I am happy to report that I have had no problems. It's a manual, fun to drive, no maintenance but rotations and oil changes. I don't like the seat fabric(not durable) or the too many hard interior plastics but it's a solid little efficient performer. Am I just lucky? Or are the many complaints on this site those of a minority? Any thoughts?
Love my '06 sedan. I did have the Lug Bug TSB performed, as I did fall into the vin numbers that could have had the problem. The service manager drove the car with me and he said that he heard the noise faintly but performed the belt change just to ease my mind. Had them tighten up the rear at the 1st oil change, made a noise over speed bumps. That noise has crept back a bit so will have them address this on Friday if they can squeeze me in for the 2nd oil change. Car has behaved flawlessly and got 36 mpg's on a small road trip in May. All in all, happy with my purchase and hopefully this will last me till I retire within the next 6 to 8 years. Did see the pics of the '08 Accord earlier and was blown away by what I saw. Might have to convince the wife to make that her next car in 2010.
Since I got my new Si Sedan, I've also had the clunk while braking over bumps from the front end (may be on the right side, not sure).
Took it to the dealer, the tech said it was normal as I was "heavily loading the suspension", and that it's a "sport" suspension.
Uh, no. I wasn't heavily loading the suspension. I was braking moderately (as one would do when slowing down in traffic, when you aren't rushed to slam on the brakes, but do need to slow the car down). Using far less than half of the car's stopping power is hardly "heavily loading" it. I've driven cars with significantly harder suspensions that did not have this behavior.
Has anyone else had this issue resolved?
The Si Sedan is the only model not covered by the TSB that covers suspensions.
backy - Hyundai makes a decent car, but do they really belong in this discussion? This isn't a "reliability comparison" thread. I say this as a Hyundai owner, by the way.
Does Hyundai belong in this conversation? Well, I can tell you that another poster opened the door to the direction the conversation took by insinuating Honda has lost quality (true in my opinion) but then stated that they (Honda) may have started putting Hyundai badges on Honda products. This may have been a joke but both backy and I took exception to the continuing perception (by non Hyundai owners most likely)that Hyundai is still the unreliable, unrefined, cheap, throwaway, automotive version of the "paper plate" it was decades ago.
Has anyone with an 06-07 EX model experienced a creaky moonroof when the slider is open and the moonroof is closed while driving on bumpy/uneven roads? If so, is there a fix for it?
Didn't matter if it was open or not. I found out my headliner was rattling, not the moonroof and I fixed it with adhesive speaker foam and extra pieces of velcro to hold it tighter.
Others have found the actual rubber around the moonroof panel is squeaking and that cleaning the surfaces against which it seats and putting some good rubber lubricant on the seal stopped this.
I strongly recommend closing the slider, as I've never been in a car yet that didn't sound worse with it open.
My 07 LX sedan seat will not stay all the way up. I have to crank the seat height adjuster a few cranks at least once or maybe twice a day to keep the seat where I want it. I'm not a runt but at 210 or so I'm not gigantic either. Has anyone else had this problem with the seat? Is there a user adjustment on the tension?
Noticed the same thing earlier today. But in all honesty, haven't checked it in awhile. Will mention it at the dealer later on today if they can fit me in for an oil swap.
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX COUPE AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. IT HANDLES INCREDIBLY WELL, ACCELERATES WELL AND I'VE BEEN AVERAGING OVER 40 MILES TO THE GALLON (I DRIVE MOSTLY ON THE FREEWAY). HOWEVER AT AROUND THE 7,000 MILE MARK I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER TO FIND THAT IT WAS BLOWING ONLY HOT AIR. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY GOOD ABOUT GETTING ME AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I BROUGHT IT IN AND THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. A LINE USED TO CARY LUBRICANT TO THE COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN LEAKING. THE CLUTCH AND COMPRESSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS THEY WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. IN ADDITION A NEW AIR CONDITIONER COIL AND OIL LINES WERE INSTALLED. THE MECHANIC WHO DID THE JOB, WHO ALSO HAPPENS TO BE A FRIEND OF MINE, COMMENTED THAT IT WAS AN UNUSUAL SITUATION BUT HE ISN'T CONFIDENT THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I'VE HAD SOME ISSUES ALSO WITH A 2007 HONDA CRV AND THE DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCH NEEDING REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY 13,000 MILES. HONDA WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR LEGENDARY RELIABILITY?
I can't seem to find out what this is about. Can someone tell me what's going on with the bearings and ABS? I tried 4 times to click on it and joined the group but not able to see anything about them. Thank you.

Recall Number: 07V399000 Summary: ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL. Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE A WHEEL TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009. Notes: HONDA RECALL NO. Q56. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION¿S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Being all too familiar with recalls from my VW I am pretty sure we'll be getting something in the mail about this. I bought this car hoping I wouldn't be in "the shop" for things like this so it's pretty annoying. Also the fact that I am driving to Madison from Central Wi. this weekend freaks me about a little. I'm going to freak out about my wheel falling off with every bump I hit!
If you are registered with Honda's Ownerlink, it will tell you if your specific car (based on VIN) falls under the recall - www.ahm-ownerlink.com (my 2007 EX Sedan is not affected by this recall, so it's either based on a particular production period or partuclar part series).
So, going by those VINs, only Canadian made cars are affected (the first digit, "2" is the country of origin code, with "1" being the USA and "2" being Canada).
Nope, my 2007 was made in Dec. 2006 and has a "1" VIN. Ohio (East Liberty Plant) still makes most of the civics sold in the USA, but the Canadian production has been expanded to try to make up for the increased demand in both countries.
In Canada, up until this year, the Alliston Plant #1 was the only Canadian plant making civics, and then only sedans. Now, both Plant #1 and #2 produce civics (up until the shift in 2007, the Alliston Plant #2 only made trucks). Honda did this by shifting all of the Pilot production operations to their Lincoln Alabama plant, freeing up Alliston #2 for civic production.
In 2008 there will be a new plant in Greensburg Indiana to also build "4 cyclinder cars and light trucks" (and a new 4 cylinder engine plant in Canada, but I don't recall where).
yeah, my vin starts with 2 and i bought my car in nor cal, i've already made an appointment inregards to this matter...it seems like i'm the 1st one to call our dealer for "rear wheel bearings and abs sensor" inspection/repair...(they haven't send out letters yet) thanks guys. btw, my car is an o6 si
shoot, i'm very thankful that i've learned abt this site a wk ago, can't imagine driving in the freeway missing a wheel while this cute hyundai-driving boy waves at me, nyahaha...
It was said earlier that the recall starts on the 17th. I looked up my account with Owner Link and it said my car is not involved even though it was built in Canada and begins with 2. Would it be a good idea to check again on Monday the 17th or would the recall be listed now for sure?

I belive if you search the forums for 2006 civic lug bug, you will find the TSB there as I recall posting a full scan of the TSB.

As you point out, this isn't a comparison discussion, so yes, let's take the Hyundai conversation to an appropriate topic,
The only TSB's for front end clunking is the motor mount and the bump stop but I don't know if they pertain to your car.

You may also have it on your proof-of-insurance card or title.
