It's a real incentive. VW is picking up the initial payment. It isn't rolled in.

well unfortunately I couldn't get either dealership to accept my offer with these numbers and their discounted sale price. I did get one dealer to explain why. They said VW has two tiers of Money Factor and with the large discounts they are offering off of MSRP the MF is actually .00197 with a $3.5 to $4k discount. In order to get the .00032 MF I got from this forum they are only offering a $550 incentive which jibes with the numbers from this forum. In other words you can get a large discount or a low money factor but not both. They did indicate the residual percentage I used was correct for either money factor since that is set by VW. So perhaps this info can help someone else. And this would also explain why these cars have never been good lease candidates.

I'm looking at a 2019 Alltrack SEL. Price before fees $34,995. Cap cost $35,821 (Acq fee, doc, reg, license). $535/mo with $1000 down. Seems like a terrible deal to me. Dealers get lease cash too so shouldn't that cancel out any "additional charge" they try to levy?

What is your ZIP code?
What lease term and how many miles per year?

You are looking at a car that is 1.5 model years old, so the residual value is going to be atrocious. That is what kills the deal.

Right, I think because they're selling the vehicle like it's a .5 year old vehicle and then getting the residual of a 1.5 year old vehicle, that spread is accounting for the bad deal. They should be discounting this 1.5 year old vehicle much MUCH more. Lease term is 15/36.

If I understand correctly also, VW gives $1000 lease cash, so there's no reason the dealer should be 'adding $1000 to the price for the lease' if $1000 from VW would cancel that out. That $1000 wouldn't even be in play if this were a cash purchase. Sounds like they're just trying to pocket the $1000 lease cash and charge me the premium.

I don't see any customer incentives for lease or purchase.

If you want this vehicle, you should probably buy it.

Interesting that the dealer was ready to go ahead with April's MF and when I changed it, they were just like "OK, we'll go with that one then". Good thing for this board, lest people get screwed. Speaking of which, I'm calculating everything on https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/loans/auto-loans/nerdwallet-lease-calculator and the dealer keeps sending me a quote sheet with the same numbers and a monthly payment that's $30 higher. So I keep asking how their calculations are different. They haven't given me a straight answer yet.
