Hi, everyone -- thanks for all the help I've received here. About to close a deal on a 2020 T5 R-Design w/ Advanced Pkg and heated seats/steering. Posting the details, should that be helpful to others, and also because I have a question about the fees. I understand that the Doc Fee of $445 is basically a payment to the dealer and, as such, I guess it's taxed -- which is why it shows up as $472.81 in the upfront. Did I get that right? Also, Cap Fee is a term I haven't seen, but I'm led to believe it's the actual state RMV fees. And since it's apparently being rolled into the lease payment, I guess it's taxed too. Is that also correct?

Anyhow, I'm reasonably happy with the deal, as they are also picking up one lease payment on our outgoing vehicle. But we haven't signed yet, so if there are changes I should ask for, would be happy to hear from folks.

Any non-government fee is subject to tax, so the amount for the doc fee is correct.

Government fees, however, are non-taxable, and should be paid up front, else they become subject to tax, as you've learned.

Thanks to everyone who has provided info and advice here in the forum. We've agreed to terms on a 2020 XC40 R-Design. Sharing the final deal for those who are interested. In addition to these terms, the dealer is picking up one lease payment ($597) on our outgoing vehicle. Lease is 36/7.5 and we are in Massachusetts.
