    Hi Tagman

After washing the car with Dawn, , with a slightly damp cloth, apply such a small amount, that you can barely see it with the light indirectly shining on it..If it is a warm day it will dry a little more quickly than cool...You really can`t see it on the car, but the polishing cloth slides over it so easily you can tell you are polishing it off....I got caught up with the many different coats, but after the newness wore of I really couldn`t tell the difference, so I just put the occasional coat on....Remember just a few drops on the applicator, and the applicator is to be dampish.....Drops..... of Zaino Tony

own as BMW, builder of some of the most awarded engines in the world, is hard at work preparing to satisfy our fuel economy and performance needs in the years to come. And that Mercedes Benz has developed the DiesOtto engine!

I have no doubts about what MB and BMW can do. BUT right now their future as super efficient hybrid car producers is a bit unclear right now. Time will only tell.
  • deweydewey Member Posts: 5,251
Are you interested in the rumored dedicated hybrid?

If the Toyota Prius has nickel carbide batteries and the Lexus Prius has LI Batteries then in that case the Lexus is a bit more than a glorified Toyota.

Based on Toyota news there will be three versions of a Prius. My hunch is that at least one of them will have LI batteries. In that case I would pick the Toyota over the Lexus.

"A typical BMW customer is not going to move down to a Q5. There is more chance that they would go for something like a GLK. Just because Audi will price the car in the premium segment does not make it a premium vehicle," the spokesman said. "

BMW makes great cars but their HR department needs to do some work in terms of hiring qualified spokesmen. The statement above is an insult to all BMW owners because it portrays them as narrow minded petty arrogant snobs. If Audis weren't priced so stupidly in Canada as pointed out by our fellow forum member gs430 t I would have been glad to have bought an Audi instead of a BMW.

This kind of idiotic arrogance from a BMW spokeman is no asset for BMW or their customers.

And this sort of thing advances our conversation about the cars how?

How about we stick to the cars and leave the "labeling" for those who don't know any better, what say?

Just because Audi will price the car in the premium segment does not make it a premium vehicle," the spokesman said.

OOooo burned! This comment is so ridiculous. What makes the X3 a "premium vehicle" and the Q5 not? Typical BMW arrogance. My wife will either be moving "down" to a Q5, or an XC60 T6. Another X3 isn't on the list.

    Hi Tony,
Always nice to hear from you. Well, I have little doubt that I used too much Zaino on a dry applicator. Thanks for the advise!! I'll try that next time.

Wow! Seems like BMW is a bit nervous. How dimwitted do you have to be as a company mouthpiece to make such a statement on a professional level? Makes BMW look not only scared, but a bit boorish. Considering that BMW in Europe leads only the lower premium segment (2007: 3-Series 220,00 vs A4 207,000), the premium coupe segement (though the TT and A5 are on a tear), and the Premium SUV segement (the X3), while loosing the upper premium, medium premium, and entry premium segments to Audi in a big way, I guess they see the Audi-Porsche jaggernaut coming their way. The R8 is third among exotics in Europe behind the Aston Martin Brand and the Ferrari Brands as whole, so to state that Audi Q5 does not compete in the premium sector must be a form of BMW denial. I suggest the spokeman check out the stats of the Q5.

PS> How does one get an image to post? I use the Img by placing the address of the picture, say from photobucket or imageshack, and I get the picture to preview, but not to post. Any suggestions?

PS> How does one get an image to post? I use the Img by placing the address of the picture, say from photobucket or imageshack, and I get the picture to preview, but not to post. Any suggestions?

1.Right click on the actual pic you want to post. (it mustn't be too large, of course.)
    2.Select (left click) "Properties".
3.A dialogue box (seperate window) will appear. Highlight and Copy entire address (url) from within the dialogue box. (Careful here, as sometimes the address is more than one line of text, so be sure to highlight/copy ALL of it).
4.Paste that info into your Edmunds post, at the position you want the pic to appear.
5.Highlight that same exact info. you just pasted, and while it's still highlighted, left click "Img" button, located just below the message window you are posting in.
6.That's it! Post it!! (There are other ways, but this one will give you almost foolproof results.)

If you have any further questions about any of these steps, just ask... We'll have you posting pics in no time. :)

    LOL

OK, BMW, you can think that. It will only hurt you.

It amazes me that a company spokesperson--a professional--would be so unprofessional and so utterly incorrect in this day and age. Audi is the biggest threat to BMW, if only because it's fresh. Mercedes and BMW have been one-upping each other for decades but Audi is a relatively recent, and fast-moving, competitor.

If anything the X3 is less premium. I have a close friend with one, and each ride I take in it gives me another reason to dislike it. Funny coming from an X5 owner. The seats are hard. The interior is cramped. It's ugly--I didn't think so for a while but now I do, again. It guzzles gas (same day-by-day mpg as the X5 3.0si). The transmission is a safety risk. The wheels are ugly. It gives me a headache.

Well, that's just about enough ranting from me, no? Didn't know you had one. Do you agree?

Another reason that BMW should wake up and worry is that they changed their lease residuals last month to rates that will raise prices. The X3 had a crazy high 24 month residual of 75% I believe. This gave the car a very low payment price and enticed many young people and others who thought it would be cool to drive a BMW at the price of a lesser brand. The looks and performance of the vehicle were less of a factor than the low price to many people.

Now that the price is going up, the car will have to compete more equally with the GLK, Q5 and others without the large discount.
  • circlewcirclew Member Posts: 8,666
Agreed...I find that when using any way, less is much better than more. The more you use one any one application, the more you wax the wax instead of the finish layer.

What's surprising about that? I think most people are seduced by the performance of Porsches, but if you look at them objectively/subjectively, they really aren't all that attractive. At all... But we being enthusiasts, if there was a stock Yaris that could run the 'Ring in under 8 minutes, we'd be in love! Sort of like that ugly girl that has every quality that you want in a woman except beauty. There are different kinds of Lounges.

This one is about CARS, primarily luxury, but that parameter has been quite liberal, IMO.

I tend to agree that focusing on people, instead of cars, is misdirected.

Perhaps there is a forum somewhere for those that need to categorize, label, disect, judge, analyze and evaluate PEOPLE instead of focusing on cars.

Besides, I am more of a car enthusiast than a people enthusiast, anyway!... LOL.

All just my opinion.... yours may vary. :)

Toyota outlined its ambitious green initiative in the document, which emphasized that the company intends to rev up hybrid sales to 1 million vehicles annually "as early in the 2010s as possible."

The automaker said it will set up a new battery research department later this month to advance the development of what it calls an innovative next-generation battery that can outperform a lithium-ion battery. Toyota said that Panasonic EV Energy Co. Ltd., a joint venture it set up with the Matsushita Group, will start limited production of lithium-ion batteries in 2009, moving into full-scale production in 2010.

Toyota noted that by the end of 2010, it will "complete the transition to a new series of highly efficient engines and transmissions."

The Japanese automaker confirmed that it will introduce a "highly efficient compact six-speed manual transmission in the fall of 2008." It did not specify which vehicles will be the first to get the new transmission. Toyota also said it will complete the revamping of its engine lineup shortly, with new 1.3-liter and 2.5-liter engines introduced this year. It also noted that it is "working on initiatives to reduce vehicle size and weight," pointing to the iQ minicompact, which is planned for launch in 2008, as a prime example.

The document also provided some tantalizing clues to the direction that Toyota is going when it comes to alternative fuels. "TMC is conducting research on a cellulosic ethanol that can both avert competition with food supplies and ensure a stable society," it said. "The distinctive feature of TMC's research is the focus on using technologies that involve yeast."

Toyota also confirmed that it is conducting joint research with Nippon Oil Corp. on "high-concentration bio hydrofined diesel as a biofuel alternative to petroleum-based diesel."

Toyota said its global cumulative sales of hybrid vehicles hit 1.5 million this month. Worldwide cumulative sales of the Toyota Prius reached 1 million units in April. "We intend to continue to expand our overseas hybrid vehicle production efforts," Toyota said.

Major kudos to Toyota for its role in hybrid technology!! I sincerely mean that!!

However, IMO, Toyota and Honda, as well as others need to consider that resonable selections of hybrid trucks and SUVs are terribly lacking and desperately needed.

An LS600hL might be nice, but what good does it do for the American public or any other market for that matter?

The Highlander hybrid is a reasonable offering, but the previous version was too small, and the current one is very spartan for many folk's tastes.

If that LS600hL or GS hybrid is possible, why not a GX hybrid or even an LX hybrid?

What about a Tacoma or Tundra hybrid?

What about a Honda hybrid that actually is a FULL hybrid, instead of just IMA?

Yet, another Toyota Press conference?... I see a need for more action and less talk!

    Kudos for Toyota indeed!

That is why I have become such an avid and diehard Lexus fan.

May the relentless pursuit to perfection continue. ;)

Fortunately things are looking up for me. I am buying a truly luxurious car like a Lexus instead of a humble BMW . If I continue talking this way I wonder if Lexus will hire me to be their spokesman. ;)

Yet, another Toyota Press conference?... I see a need for more action and less talk!

Nobody does more "action" regarding the hybrid technology than Toyota so just for that the Toyota press release weighs more than other auto manufactures IMO.

LS600hL is just a halo project, Lexus needed something to stack up against the S600/760i/A8L W12 and what's the best way to be different? To Lexus it's the hybrid technology. Anyone who thinks they are saving the planet by driving the LS600hL is crazy...

The current gen Highlander is much improved over the last gen but what Toyota really needs right now is to get the hybrid Versa to the market as soon as possible.

Currently Toyota's plan is to have hybrids for passenger cars and diesels for truck/BOF SUVs. The GX is on schedule to be either discontinued or replaced (depends on what Toyota will do with the 4Runner) and LX is such a niche model it's really pointless to introduce another engine choice. Tundra on the other hand, is on schedule to receive a diesel engine within the next couple years. However, with the diesel price as it is right now I am not sure if that's the best way to go...

Let me make it clear that I didn't participate in whatever went on in any fashion. Didn't even get to read some of the posts that were deleted. With that said, I look at the "Lounge" as being like the golf clubhouse or a hunting lodge where stuffy, rich guys go to smoke cigars, talk politics (and be "politically incorrect"), tell dry jokes, and complain about "the help."

But that's just me, I guess. If I recall, the raison d'etre for the Luxury Lounge was for it to be a free-for-all so we would stop cluttering up the LPS and HELC forums with off-topic banter. :confuse:

    My forecast:

Toyota will widen its competitive lead with lithium ion hybrids

GM's Volt and GM hybrids will not have the same cachet as Toyota's. The mileage of current GM hybrids is a disgrace and those cars do not help GM's image for fuel efficiency.

Nissan has a good chance with its new Electrical vehicle for 2011. This sounds like a car that may disrupt Toyota's lead.

The German hybrids? Who knows at this stage but MB Diesotto or whatever they call it will be catered to a very narrow niche of the luxury market.

Honda is doing itself a big disservice by sticking to outdated Nickel Carbide hybrds. That is yesterday's solution and is as dated as a 8 track Liberace tape. In a few years the nickel carbide Honda CRZ will soon have a RIP tombstone and will be buried beside its Insight and Hybrid Accord siblings.

The diesels from the Germans and Honda will FLOP if diesel prices remain as high as they are today. And there is no reason why diesel prices should drop relative to gasoline prices.

The Germans are far too complacent at this stage. They still are planning new and exciting fast gas guzzlers just like Ford and GM planned new and exciting gas guzzling trucks and SUVs just because the profit margins on those vehicles are far higher. Fuel efficiency is the new religion and VW's new Jetta TDI is proof of the current complacency among German automakers (this so called fuel miser hardly gets beter mileage than a far cheaper gasser Toyota Corolla). Which car do think frugal types will choose? The far more expensive car that consumes the far more expensive fuel? I dont think so!

I think everyone is clear about the purpose and the very loose parameters of this discussion. We've been having it for a very long time now and as you all know, it's not often that I ask for a shift in conversation.

There are some things that are absolutely out of line, however, such as personal attacks and personal criticisms. I've asked that we not assign personal characteristics to owners of vehicles because that falls into those areas. That was my point and that is why I asked that we drop it and move on.

I hope that is clearer. As always, everyone is free to email me with any questions, but let's go on from here.

    Thanks!

Lou, as I read your post, I think it becomes even more evident that my observation about a lack of hybrid SUVs and trucks is right on target.

There essentially is next to nothing from Toyota to address this huge SUV/truck market! One Highlander model. It is shocking. An upcoming diesel truck? That's a joke. Everyone thinks all they have to do is throw a diesel into a truck, and they've accomplished something. That's baloney. And, it's still just talk, not action.

Honda's Fit hybrid is very soon to be a reality, but it isn't exactly a mainstream vehicle. It's too small for most of us.

And... I'm soooooo sick of seeing concepts that never come to market.

Let's face it... We are still freakin' YEARS away from the kinds of products that this market is so ripe for NOW.

I can tell you categorically, that a mid-sized, luxury SUV/Crossover, with benchmark fuel economy would sell as fast and as many as could be produced.

Do the manufacturers really think that the American public needs a new generation of gas-guzzlers?

I had few posters here believe me, as recent as around 1 year ago, when I posted that gas would be $4 - $5 / gallon. Well, let me tell you that it's going to get even worse... I expect to see $6 / gallon next year or two. Maybe even $7 / gallon. Maybe even MORE!

Man, we are seriously behind the eight ball, and so many don't even know it.

No, I didn't. Did you read about Hamilton's dad smashing a friend's Porsche into a children´s play garden after having proudly spoken to the press?

Yea I knew about it. This is what he had to say.

Anthony Hamilton, 48, lost control and drove through a hedge in to an empty children's playground near his home in Hertfordshire.

"Thankfully the only thing hurt was the car and a bush fence, for which I am extremely sorry," an embarrassed Mr Hamilton told The Sun.

"This is my first crash in almost 30 years and it had to happen in someone else's car."

LOL kind of funny but after all it was a CARRERA GT I wonder what has friend said to him after the crash

BTW Nico Rosberg and his dad had a race RS4 and bentley GT almost crashed his dad bentley from the back ;)

Who says even F1 drivers are the safest ;)
  • bmlexusbmlexus Member Posts: 755
It's usually the son who has to make the phone call that he's smashed up a car, but it was the other way round when Lewis Hamilton's dad crashed a Porsche supercar just yards from his front door.

Anthony Hamilton smashed the £330,000 Porsche Carrera GT through a neighbours hedge when he skidded off a corner in the village of Tewin, Hertfordshire.

Mr Hamilton, 47, managed to walk back home, but was said to be shaken.

He was reported to be seen revving the engine of the 205mph Porsche as he pulled out of his driveway, shortly before the crash.

Police have interviewed Mr Hamilton and confirmed that no one was injured

Lou, as I read your post, I think it becomes even more evident that my observation about a lack of hybrid SUVs and trucks is right on target.

Your observation is correct with Lexus the only premium brand having a hybrid SUV. If the rumors are correct, then Audi will introduce the Q7 Hybrid after all next year followed by a Q5 Hybrid after the Q5 is introduced. BMW is following suppposably with the X6 hybrid. The Germans have been too slow to respond to the hybrid market even though Diesel is the first push. But with the price of diesel fuel might negate the market push here. A Q5 Hybrid would be a major winner for Audi if it brought it now.
