I'll probably test-drive it again. First impressions might have been skewed by having just come out of a more powerful car and approx. 400 lbs of passenger weight.

I've been deciding on an 09 M6 for the past few weeks and have been deciding on the i or the s and also trying to figure out the financing end of things. This forum has been very helpful. One thing that I noticed people talking about was the Private Launch Bonus of $1000. I saw posts on the forum that some people had gotten it and some haven't. Just to let you know, apparently they are still sending them out because I just got one two days ago. The offer expires on October 31st. I hope this helps.

I just got mine 2 days ago also, i.e., $1000 Private Launch! Yes, I plan on using it very soon!!! :shades:

When did you guys sign up for them?

Was it just the "Get Email Updates" at Shopping Tools?
  • heybroderheybroder Member Posts: 78
During the past month, I have contacted Mazda at www.mazdausa.com through email. Go to www.mazdausa.com; scroll down to bottom of main page to "contact us". Next page that pops up will be CONTACT US. On the Top Right Side: oragne arrow, it will say: email mazda. Select Topic: Purchasing and Leasing. Then Subtopic: Rebates and Incentives and you are on your way. I waiting a few days to receive something through the mail and/or email. After receiving nothing for a week, I contacted them again. It worked!!! Just don't play any kind of game. I told them that I WAS going to buy a new Mazda3 or new Mazda6 and that we would apprecate it very much if they could help us out and save money. Good luck. I love their products and they love happy customers! :shades:

I just got my 2009 Mazda 6 s Touring w/Convience Pkg.The whole process was smooth. This is what I paid:

    $26,700 OTD(Out The Door) Price
    $1,000 Private Launch cash
    Total: $25,700 OTD

I got a great deal. My whole family loves my car. They all want to drive it. I love the head lights. You can see everything thats in front of you. The handling is great around tight corners. The brakes, sound system, and everything else is great on this car. My advice would be to get the v6. You'll have more fun with it. Trust Me

Contact Mazdausa through their toll free phone number and set-up the S-Plan and save much more money! :shades: P.S. You are very welcome!
  • heybroderheybroder Member Posts: 78
Did you purchase the Mazda6 with cash? Did this OTD price include taxes, destination charge, license and transfer, and etc.? :shades:
  • cirrusscirruss Member Posts: 87
Are you saying Mazda USA themselves will set you up for s plan discount? Please tell me about it.
  • rik4rik4 Member Posts: 90
i just got my 1000.00 rebate for the launch too. good till end of october.
  • darkmanrob85darkmanrob85 Member Posts: 30
yeah i paid cash. OTD includes everything(taxes, tags, doc fee, etc). You just have to do a little negotiating. What I did was I got the invoice price of the car online; then added the convience pkg price; then figured out the sales tax and registration(different for each state); then added everything up and subtracted the private launch amount. It came out to around $26,500 OTD (give or take a little). So i negotiated from there.
  • 4rman4rman Member Posts: 30
I was at my local dealer today and they have dropped the price by 500. Basically, I can get the car for 23K with both the Bose package and the convenience pkg for 4cyl i touring. Good price???
  • darkmanrob85darkmanrob85 Member Posts: 30
    Is that the OTD price?
  • 4rman4rman Member Posts: 30
No, the 6.5% tax plus any doc. fees are extra. The sticker for this car is around $26250. It will be $3K Off of the sticker.

In the North East, Mazda6 sales are up 14% over last year. In a down market everywhere, I see this as great news!
  • rnmomrnmom Member Posts: 32
My husband and I checked out the ^ this weekend. He like the Grand Touring. V6 It had all the items he asked for. The dealer wanted $550.00 per month... Doesnt that sound like a big number?
  • 4rman4rman Member Posts: 30
I guess it depends on the terms. i.e. length of lease. I have seen $239/m for 24 months with 2100 down. But it was the i touring. Not sure if it included the two packages. $550 seems very high. You can lease a BMW 3 series for less than that.
  • dman24dman24 Member Posts: 11
That is good new Aviboy. You were talking about the North East. Im in CT. Where is your dealership located?
  • dman24dman24 Member Posts: 11
Oh ok. Im in Milford. I might have to make a trip up there soon. I've been to a few of the dealerships in the area and I have done a good amount of research as this is the first "new" car I have been looking at purchasing. This forum and your input has been very helpful.
  • weathergirlweathergirl Member Posts: 35
Thanks for posting! Did you get it in the mail or in an email? How long did it take to get it when you emailed them a second time? Sorry, I'm still waiting for the S plan certificate from WKA, so I'm getting a bit impatient. :)

    Thanks again!
  • ohblueohblue Member Posts: 39
    I have the Ford X-Plan. I've emailed Mazda 2 days in a row...nothing yet.
  • darkmanrob85darkmanrob85 Member Posts: 30
If you can get the Mazda iTouring(with the two packages) for for $23k, add the sales tax and negotiate between that price and the MSRP. Honestly I would pay no more than between $24,000 - $24,500 OTD. When your doing the calculations at home, don't worry about the dealership fees because the finance department at the dealership is gonna have to figure out a way to include those figures in the price of the car you agreed on.

If you want me to do the numbers, just tell me what state you live in and I can give you an OTD price margin to work with.
  • aviboy97aviboy97 Member Posts: 3,159
A finance person should never be left with the task of disclosing any fees associated with the purchase.

A professional sales person will disclose all fees associated with the purchase UP FRONT so when the customer goes into finance to sign paper work, the numbers are presented EXACTLY as discusses with the sales person and there are no surprises. No finance person should EVER have to worry about how to "fit" those fees into what was agreed. That is a terrible and unprofessional way to do business.
  • rnmomrnmom Member Posts: 32
My husband aw the car this weekend and liked it very much He currently drives a 05 TL the lease is up in a shortly. He wants leather, heat seats Bluetooth, 6 CD changed, Power seat ( driver) for sure. and a Moonroof. Should we think of an 1 and then a package.. Also is the V4 similar to the Honda Accord...
  • jkobty2jkobty2 Member Posts: 210
So finally I picked up my Mazda GT I4 with Luxury package on Friday. And I have to say I am very impressed. Driving at night is absolutely amazing in this car.
I can describe it in 2 sentences. If you ever had a dream car, this would be your dream car's dream car. Blue with grey leather interior is an amazing combination.
  • darkmanrob85darkmanrob85 Member Posts: 30
I didn't care about the fees. The only thing I cared about was the OTD price. The finance person's job is figure out a way to include to fees into the OTD price that I want to pay for.
  • heybroderheybroder Member Posts: 78
It took 3 weeks for Mazda to send me two items: $500 Mazda Preferred Buyer's Card that expired 12/31/08 (sent via regular mail) and the Private Launch Bonus Cash (sent via email. $1000 toward the purchase of '09 Mazda6 or $500 toward other selected models.). I wouldn't be buggin' too often, i.e., sending MazdaUSA emails every day! Mazda Customer Service doesn't have anything to do with the $1000 Private Launch Bonus Cash. So, inquiring them concerning this would do you no good! Now they may be able to help you with the S-Plan and the $500 Preferred Buyer's Card. Just call 1-800-222-5500 option #6. I would only call if I was absolutely or strongly interested in purchasing a Mazda product. They are extremely nice people! Hope this helps. Mazda vehicles are awesome!!! :shades:
  • 4rman4rman Member Posts: 30
    Thanks darkmanrob85.

    I had a follow-up call with the dealer. So here are the numbers;
    $23645(price) - 6700 (trade-in value) = $16945
    $16945 + 1101(6.5% tax) = $18046

I guess if there are any other dealer fees, it would be added to the $18046 number.
  • 4rman4rman Member Posts: 30
Is the private launch bonus for previous Mazda owners only? Can it be applied to the best negotiated price (i.e. get another 1k off the best price?).
  • aviboy97aviboy97 Member Posts: 3,159
I get your point, however, I disagree about who's job it is to do that.

The sales person is the one to do that. In my business, the finance person does not set or alter the price of the car in any way. Either the sales person or sales manager do. If you want to be, say, $25K OTD, then it is up to your sales person to see if that is possible.

The tasks for a finance person are supposed be to deal with financial institutions, warranties, and any extra products to be sold in addition to the vehicle its self.
  • aviboy97aviboy97 Member Posts: 3,159
The private launch bonus was given to those who inquired about the Mazda6 long before it came out. There is a separate $500 owner loyalty applied to those who own a registered Mazda.

Any applicable rebates, or incentives, always get taken off the negotiated price. However, those incentives are taxable. Don't forget that.
  • heybroderheybroder Member Posts: 78
The Private Launch Bonus is NOT for previous Mazda owners only! Again, I contacted Mazda through email approximately 3 weeks ago concerning obtaining the PLB and received it through email less than a week ago! Therefore, it is not just for those who have contacted/emailed MazdaUSA LONG before the Mazda6 came out. The Mazda6 was already on sale on the lots before I contacted them! Therefore prospective Mazda perchasers CAN still obtain the $1000 Private Launch Bonus Offer. Unless MazdaUSA extends the PLB offer into November, it will run out October 31. So, hurry! :shades:

I’ve FINALLY got some behind-the-wheel time with not one but 3 different ’09 models.

On Saturday, I went to New Country Mazda in Saratoga (while visiting the in-laws), and was able to drive the S Touring.

The salesperson went to find the specific model on the lot, so I wasn’t able to start it myself, but it sure was whisper-quiet when it pulled up. I didn’t even notice it until I turned to see it right in front of me. This is my first exposure to the cloth/leather seats, and I like them. I’m still not used to the gray steering wheel in a black interior, but the wheel itself fell easily to hand, and the rim thickness was luckily retained from the first-gen car. The steering-wheel controls will take a little getting used to, but they’re easily reached without removing my hands from the 9 and 3 position, something I can’t say about the ’07 Altima 2.5S that my wife drives.

Other comparisons: The interior as a whole is a vast improvement over just about anything else I’ve driven, let alone in this class. The orange-and-blue gauges are easy to read, and all other controls are logically placed and intuitive. An excellent compromise between the stark, minimum-controlled dash of the Altima, and the 58 different buttons scattered on the Accord’s dash.

My father-in-law and brother-in-law were with me, so the four of us piled into the car (yes, all four of us, more on that later). The in–laws in the back seat both were impressed with the room, easily getting comfortable, unlike my ’04, which my father-in-law never has enough legroom.

And we’re off. Acceleration was smooth, without any hesitation or hiccup. The V6 definitely has more HP and torque compared to the 3.0L, even with the automatic and four adults, the power was effortless, and getting up to speed was easy even with only a slight amount of pedal travel. Maneuvering around the auto mall complex was a breeze, and the shorter turning-circle was VERY evident (and welcome!)

Driving on suburban roads, the steering wheel felt nicely weighted, with plenty of feedback. Unlike others, I didn’t sense any on-center dead spot, it felt tight from lock to lock, similar to my ’04. Brakes were excellent (as with every Mazda I’ve driven), and offered nice feedback.

After four to five blocks, the salesperson guided me back to the dealer, not allowing me to take it onto the Northway, saying that he had “an appointment” and we didn’t have enough time. No, I wasn’t happy, and I remembered why my in-laws never bought a car from New Country.

It was nice, but I wanted more, and I got it.

Yesterday, I went to the local dealer (Burdick), and tested both a I GT and S GT, back to back, without any salesperson! I drove both cars through the same 16 mile route, with highway and backroads sprinkled in with the city streets.

The 4-cylinder was a decent engine, with good power, and a vast improvement over the 2.3L with the automatic. Steering and brakes felt similar to the Touring, but there’s still an obvious difference between the 4-cylinder and V6 in terms of handling and control. Cutting apexes was still easy, but I did feel more body roll than my ’04 with V6.

The S GT was a whole different experience from the I GT. The V6 was quiet and docile around town, but it moved when you wanted it to, with a nice, throaty growl. Passing on the highway was effortless, even with the slushbox, and I was easily the first car from a red light, without even trying. Chirping the tires was easy, but I didn’t feel any torque steer at any time, not bad for 272 HP and 269 lb-ft. of torque. The added weight became apparent on the backroads, with more body roll than the 4-cylinder. A LOT of the blame goes to the miserable Michelins that Mazda AGAIN saddles us with. Even the 18” tires squealed early and often, and rode loudly on certain surfaces.

Final impression: The power from the V6 is immense and easy to control. Steering and braking is still excellent, better than any Accord or Altima could even dream of. I’ll admit that the handling isn’t as good as the first-gen, which I’m not very thrilled about, but a better set of tires would go a long way (but not all the way) to fix that. Although it’s no BMW, it still feels more involving than an Accord or Altima, and the HUGE improvements in both the drivetrains and interior are very appreciated.

Glade you were able to get the launch bonus. Are you able to use the 1K bonus on top of the negotiated price? So if my negotiated price is 23645, I can just walk into the dealer ship and they will take another 1K off?
  • darkmanrob85darkmanrob85 Member Posts: 30
Those numbers look great. You just left out the vehicle registration fees which would be like between $50-$60. The OTD price price that I think you should for would be $18,200-$18,500 (give or take a little). Now you have a range of prices of what you are and aren't willing to pay for the car.
  • darkmanrob85darkmanrob85 Member Posts: 30
Yeah I get what your saying. The finance person does have those responsibilities.
  • runningdocrunningdoc Member Posts: 32
I contacted Mazda USA and they have no information on this private launch bonus. Can you tell me any more on how you obtained same. I asked via the customer support talk on MazdaUSA's home page.

    Many thanks for any help!
  • rik4rik4 Member Posts: 90
i got my launch bonus this week by email. you just go to the mazdausa.com site and register to get email from them on new vehicles. then you will get it.
  • tom17tom17 Member Posts: 134
    However, those incentives are taxable.

The private launch bonus is taxable???
How does that work ??? The dealership reports it as income to the IRS ???
What form do they use for that, 1099 ???

    Never heard of that before.

Can someone who used the bonus verify that?

    Thanks.

    mz6greyghost,
I too think the tires could be better and is one weak point of this car (V6 GT) imo. What do you think would be a good replacement for summer time? I would be getting winter tires later this year and I'm seriously thinking of replacing the Michelins next summer.
  • heybroderheybroder Member Posts: 78
    You bet! :shades:

I said that contacting MazdaUSA Customer Service (800 Number) and talking to them concerning the PLB would do NO good. This is received through email only. Some get it; some don't. Good luck! :shades:

    Nice write-up.

I just picked up my 6s Grand Touring w/ Moonroof/Bose package, black/black, this evening. I traded my BMW on this Mazda. I agree, it's not a BMW as far as handling, but for a front wheel drive car it's not bad. Nose heavy, as is inherent with any front-wheel drive car, but acceptable. Torque steer in minimal.

I got it at Colonial Mazda in Indiana, PA at $100 over invoice. They used KBB good condition for the BMW. Most dealers in my area want to jump on "auction" value right away. My local dealer wanted $3,555 more than Colonial. That's worth a 45 mile drive!

A lot of gizmos and gadgets on this car. It may take me a while to find them all. That owners manual is thick. :)

I agree about the tires. They could be immensely better. :lemon:

I finally test drove a Mazda 6 in my never ending quest for a new car.

It's a fantastic car. The steering is great, the brakes are extremely good, the interior fit and finish as well as controls and ergonomics are excellent, and it feels like a premium car compared to anything else anywhere near its price point.

It's a better value and has nicer styling than the Accord, and it's much tighter and sportier than the Camry, IMO.

It just feels more German than Japanese - a Mazda theme. I really, really like Mazda vehicles.

Check out Tirerack.com. Enter your Mazda6 model, and it'll give you the size tires you need, and an abundance of different tires to choose from, all with lots of testing and reviews to help you pick the best one for your needs. I've used them for years, with many different cars, and I've never been disappointed.

In most states rebates(bonuses, coupons, etc or whatever they may be called) are subtracted after sales tax is computed. It has nothing to do with the federal or state income tax or income reporting.

And please notice I underlined "most" states.....yours could be different. I would highly doubt that a new car dealer would charge you sales tax on something they shouldn't tax. Too many possible repercussions.
  • aviboy97aviboy97 Member Posts: 3,159
The Private Launch Bonus is considered a "rebate". Rebates are subject to sales tax, not income tax. A "rebate" is considered "cash back" from the manufacturer, and by law, is subject to state sales tax.
