Called customer service this morning and my 2500HD/Ext./4x4/6.0L/4.10 was built this week as the TPW indicated it would be. It is in emissions/quality right now. This customer service tracking is great!
Richard Mc, what info do you need to track the vehicle in transit, just the VIN. Can customer service give me the VIN now that it is built? Thanks. Everyone have a good weekend!
I was able to get a railcar # at www.BNSF.com once it had cleared QA and emissions. Use the last 8 digits of your VIN. If that doesn't do it email me and I'll see what I can do.
To answer your question, Yes. I bought my 2500HD on Sep 1. Received order number on Oct 6. Called GM on Oct 16 and received TPW of 10/30. My 2500 is GMC Sierra CC LB 2WD - somewhat differnt than yours, but it does have the 8.1/Allison power train. Hope this helps.
I put on another 150 miles today, but i am going to run her down some more before i fill her back up..My driving is mostly a 30-45minute commute from Baytown texas to Houston..so its kinda highway but there is a lot of traffic so it is also stop and go..i'll just say mixed...will keep every one posted..i took pics so i just have to get them developed and then i'll post them..
My original TPW was 9-18, then they bumped it to 9-25, then to 10-2. When I called GM customer service they, and the dealer, said it was built on 10-5 and ready to ship, 2 weeks max, making the delivery date 10-19 at the latest. The truck arrived at the dealer 10-24, and I picked it up on 10-26. Now I look under the passenger door on the frame and it says it was built 9-22-00. So, customer service and the dealer said it was built 10-5, the frame says 9-22, was just the frame built 9-22-00 or is GM customer service just full of it? It don't really matter to me now, but I wouldn't count on ANYTHING GM customer service says!
customer service was still saying my truck was in quality control when my truck already had arrived at the dealer...i don't think they have a clue..My TPW was 10-9 and it arrived at dealer on 10-17...my frame says 9-25...i think that just means the frame itself was built that day... my second half tank of gas of all 80% city driving was 12MPG...i goosed the truck quite a few times during this 175 miles so i am sure that it affected the mileage a little....power is awesome...
Give me your e-mail so i can mail it you and you can post it for all to see...i'll will scan more if anyone wants to see the inside, backseat, front end close up, rear end shot, and others..let me know..my e-mail is cfadal@ev1.net
Would anyone be able to tell me the overall width of the 2500 HD 4x4 extended cab with camper mirrors extnded and unextended? I know the width without mirrors is 79.7". Also do the camper mirrors fold back to lessen the width? Thanks
I don't know what the width of the camper mirrors are but I believe you will not have power mirrors with the extendable ones. I plan on purchasing the slip on extentions for the power mirrors. That way I have power mirrors when I am not towing. The power mirrors are one of the nicest features on the truck, no more getting out to adjust when they get bumped. Something to think about.
Anyone else having problem with Edmunds Site?? Could not Access Edmunds this weekend at all. Tried all hours day/nite – Page just sat waiting for REPLY and would not come up. It has happened before also.- All other sites come up just fine. Is it my computer or their server??
8100/Allison 'TPW's-
#366 Solar_System (ref my #356 post) – Thanks for your GMC Sierra w/8100/Allison TPW report. From your comments looks like you Special ordered it as I did --- or did Dealer already have it on order as part of his standard original allocations thus maybe reason already have tpw??
8100's were on Restraint but Solar_System has gmc TPW of only 8 wks so assume restraint has lifted. Still waiting for 'ado TPW however from Sept.!! (LT 4x4 ExCab SB Indigo Blu) black flair's have to go though!!
Need ADVISE for running boards/mud guards for cab section & box section and Easily Removable/no screws into box mounting Soft Tonneau cover – Pull 5th Wh- Will put them on myself but want to get them on hand before truck gets here. Are GM offered 'boards/tonneau' good or are there better after markets???- Will be removing flairs so will 1500's running boards/mud guards fit fendors properly???-
HELP!!! Anyone have 5th wh hitch bolted to Frame yet?? (2500HD 4x4 xcab SB-Reese 15000lb) How do we get the back Rail 'L' bracket carriage bolts inside the closed box frame section and out the to be drilled holes??? (fronts go into 'C' section of frame so no problem)
Was able to test drive LS 4x4 ExCab LB w/8100-Allison this week end- IMPRESSIVE acceleration thru 90mph and smooth shifting and ride. (Have bunch of underneath digital pictures of excab SB also if anyone interested – Don't know how to post them however!!)
Someone posted 'was waiting to test drive before ordering' which was my original intention—But decided to place order with dealer Sept. 1st to hopefully have by end of year – Glad I didn't wait.
#341 - Z71 Where is the 'ado OnStar antenna - Looked at Seville that had it on right side of rear window which I thought was stupid also – Thought they could have at least put it in the center!!!!
Spoke with my dealer on Friday. Still no TPW on my GMC 2500HD 8.1/Allsion Ext/SB. But he did have an allocation for a Silverado. So I switched. I thought that these were made on the same line? Why would one be available and not the other. BTW Ordered it Friday, TPW is week of 11/27/00 for the Silverado.
mounted right on top of the drivers head..it is smaller though than the ones on the tahoes...my truck is black so the antenna blends in really well..i'll get some more pics up soon...
mileage on second tank was 12.5 on moslty city driving...also gassered her a lot this last tank...
its just like a oval shaped dome with a 3inch antenna on it...i think they should have mounted it on the back window of the crew cab and the flip out window on the ext cab...
Yea i can let go. My next truck i will consider a 2500 for sure but only if they have autotrac. I dont really like the other 4x4 shift on the fly dohicky they have in them. I love my truck to death.
sounds more like a repeater than an actual antennae. 3" is more like a handheld cell phone.
Ryan First was the rado, then the Tahoe, now the 2500 CC, what will it be next week? 3500 dually w/Duramax for the girlfriend to drive? Could throw the sebring in the back and go on a picnic...LOL!!
tahoe hmm is out of picture dont really like the "type" (i know i am being stereotypical) of peopl they are. People i have met in person not from edmunds. My dad might get a tahoe in thenext few yrs so that will satisfy my tahoe craze.
2500 CC i like the look. When ill be in the market again for a truck will be around the time i start a family (hopefully) and it seems to be a good option.
4x4 your truck is sweet. Better if it was blue with black flares though haha. J/k your truck is awesome
Solar-- Yeh- have the six digit order no. since mid Sept.-- using the GM 800 # you mentioned. Truck ordered thru one of 'those nice to do business with' but small town dealers- He would sell truck under the GMS program (others would not). Mine was first of his allocation but guess maybe he doesn't get high priority. Guess I can't complain as cost is under dealer invoice Thks
OnStar Antenna -- Forgot to ask where the buttons are -- They on the Mirror or the dash above SnowPlow/Airbag switches or where?????
mirror...thanks for the compliments guys...i am bout to get some wheels and tires...i went to discount tire and they said that 305's with 10 inch wheels will fit...we will see tomorrow..they are going to mount a set and test it out...if not i will try 33x12.50'sx16.5 and 16.5x9.75 wheels...
I ordered my 2001 HD GMC 4x4 crew SLT SB the first week of August. My dealer now advises me he didn't get any in his November allocation and I may end up waiting until Spring. Anyone else with a similar problem. I called GMC support and they advised to find another dealer. I called Dave Smith Motors (Kellogg, ID) and they said the wait will be one year. How the heck did you guys get a truck? I'm sold my 97 GMC in late August and am getting desperate.
I ordered my Chevrolet crewcab Duramax/Allison truck back in June when they first started taking orders. I was the 10th person on the list, but some people decided they didn't want to wait. I took delivery November 1st, It cost me more than what I could have gotten a Ford SD for, but it was well worth the extra money. I can't wait for vacation time so I can tow my camper somewhere.
Sorry i didn't get back to you on that antenna placement...haven't been on the computer lately. I cannot understand why they put that antenna there...and drilled through the roof...there is no removing that! If I was going to go through the roof I would have at least put it in the middle at the back of the cab instead of off-centered and at the front.
I forgot to tell y'all that I sat in the duramax powertour truck and the guy showed me the onstar in it. He dialed them up and they unlocked the doors via satellite...it was pretty cool. I believe that their truck had a glass-mount cellphone-type antenna on the front windshield, though.
I got some 285 BFG all-terrains and some 16x8 american eagles wheels on...somewhat disappointed that 16x10's wouldn't fit even with the 285's... we tried 305's with the 10's, and tried 16.5x9.75 and 33x12.50's..no luck on either as they both rubbed the front plastic air dam and the back fender well...the 285's look good though and the wheels are ok..wheels were only 85 a piece so i am not complaining..on my last truck i spent 240 a wheel...i even kept my chevy center cap off the factory wheels, they fit right on to the new wheels...gives the truck a nice finish to it..i'll get some pics of it as soon as it stops raining and i can clean it up..
I agree -- than thought about the PU camper folks.
The camper bed would set over a center mount making it TOTALLY blind to all satelites.
Suppose at the side and if far enough forward it would at least see something?? Bet its pretty much useless though with only 3 Satelite receiver. (How stupid - Shure is low cost though- Probably saved them $millions$?)
Bet GM has to publish a 'Disclaimer' for OnStar under that situation.
HD's Anyone else notice the rear wheel wells have no plastic splash guard protection (forward, rearward or to the frame rails) extending below the 'metal wheel part'. Mud, snow etc will fly all over underneath-especially the rear bumper area.
Look above the rear wheel and you can practically see straight thru to other side not to mention the front and rear without protection.
Checked friends RAM and it has nice molded part fitting inside to protect all that area.
So went looking and found 'Kids' flat sheet 'Snow Mini-Boggons- about 18" wide x 4' long'- that could be cut to shape and pop-riveted to front, inside and rear area (actual space requires piece about 5' long so would have to use two per side) -- ACTUALLY FOUND BLACK ONES AT WALLMART –
Been away for a while so this may have been covered.
Stopped by a delaer to spec out what I am looking for and ran into a few problems - it seems that there are some combinations that aren't possible that really bug me. For instance on my proposed Sierra 3500 Crew Cab Duramax 4x4:
No leather with stick shift (we have discussed this) No electronic 4x4 with stick shift No electric mirrors with trailer tow mirrors No climate control without heated mirrors / rear glass No rear slider available (this has also been covered)
Not sure whether some of these are Canadian issues, and not sure whether some are temporary (like the late availability of two tone paint), but it seems like GM has missed the mark a little bit here. With a wonderful package it seems a shame that things like this aren;'t a little more flexible. I am sure that some of it is due to the fact that new lines are being ramped up, but nevertheless this needs to be looked at. I am looking for a heavy truck that will last me for some time - hence the diesel, and whilst the mirrors and electronic 4x4 aren't a big deal, the leather and climate control are, to my passenger if not me - they are also things that I expect on a vehicle in this price range.
On a separate topic I see that GM has confirmed 4 wheel steering on some of the truck line for 2002 - can't see it on a dooley though.
Andy, I agree these things should be offered. But some of the shortcomings can be overcome. As for the leather, you are better off getting aftermarket leather. It will be full leather, not just the seating area, and a better quality. Talk to your dealer, see if there are any aftermarket leather shops near you. Only problem, too bad you Canucks can not get the heated seats without leather.
The mirrors. Go with the power and slap those extensions on them when needed.
Climate control. Move your hand 6 inches when needed.
You are right, though. Some of these things are obvious shortcomings. Kinda like the tires. You pay that much for a vehicle, they should at least offer you the option of getting good tires.
i just took delivery of a 2500cc 8.1 with allison tranny. i hope i didn't make a mistake getting the 3.73 due to the fact that i would like to put a different tire and wheel combo on my truck. i'am not putting huge mudder type tires nor will i put a lift kit on the truck but i would like to know what some of you would suggest. if it matters i'am not pulling a fifth wheel trailer but i'am towing about 8,000lbs. my biggest concern is have i taken my 8.1 out of the best opperating range ie. torque, hp with the 3.73. i would appreciate any expertise that any one could offer me as the sales department has no answer.
8.1 and Allison would make up the difference....but I would have got the 4:10...as would almost anyone here who would tow.....hell..I would get the 4:10 even for dry commuting......how big of tires are we talking?

Now I look under the passenger door on the frame and it says it was built 9-22-00.
