to poke fun at the people who think Toyotas NEVER have problems and that all domestics are junk.
The bottom line is I think the Concorde/Firestone pic was funny. People will be offended by anything that doesn't suit there personal morality. I do think you are being two faced by laughing at one and not the other. But hey, maybe if Tim had posted it. LOL!!!! Sometimes I think that nose aint brown from that island sun!!!!
I'm officially changing the story to a bus load of Hawaiian vacationers visiting Las Vegas that the Toyota with its blown headgasket killed. Oh yeah, when fleeing the scene the Toy was broad sided by a Yugo and everyone in the Toy dies because of its poor side impact rating. THERE WERE NO CHILDREN IN ANY OF THE VEHICLES. And no animals were harmed during the fabrication of this story.
He guys/gals, is there a seatbelt recall on the 2000 sierra/silverado? Been hearing remarks about it here but have not got a notice and cannot find it on the www.nhtsa.dot.gov site. Just curious.
Be careful there with them exploding gas tanks. Seems there's a pretty good history of them side saddle tanks on them "hot" '80's GM trucks!!
I think the next story will include an explosion. Except it will be caused by a load of nitrogen fertilizer that escaped the bed of a rusted out Toyota pick up........
Your new story had me LMAO!!! It was very appropos as numerous Hawaiians do visit Las Vegas on a very regular basis. I caught the sarcasm this time - so I won't bust your chops.
Hi Ryan - I'm hulagirl - don't own a Silverado, but you've posted in my SuperCrew topic, so I'm encroaching here! Besides, you guys seem to have more fun over here! Guess I better start shopping again - Silverado this time???
I didnt mean to encroach sorry. (isnt that a football term haha). I was just posting some first hand experience ive had and seen with them supercrews. You dont need a silverado to come here i dont care ill let you slide and mod too.
Silverado owners have more fun (haha)
Mod - yea you can bring up the chevy tank thing. I just thought id throw in the pinto thing because we have been talking about it in my engineering ethics class and how it pertains to whistle blowing.
Little advice for everyone if your going to whistle blow quit your job and get another before you do it or you may never work in that field again. See college does pay off i am learning lotz hehe.
I'm interested in what you're learning about the Pinto.
Believe it or not I don't hold GM or Ford responsible for being rear ended or center punched at a high rate of speed. This society always blames the deep pockets.
My understanding was the Pinto had a bolt that was too long that would puncture the tank after being rear ended.
My wife works for the courts and you wouldn't believe the frivolous lawsuits that people get money for.
Hulagirl, glad you liked it. Hope I didn't offend anyone.................not.
wanna know how the suit started? Some lady in goshen indiana (southbend area) left a gas station forgot to put gas cap on. Stopped in the middle of traffic got out and a truck going 55mph rear ended her pinto. The car burst into flames killing her 2 daughters in the back seat. You are correct about the bolt. But guess what ford KNEW how to fix it it would have cost $6.65 a car but they didnt guess human lifes werent worth it. When the engineer finally came forward and did the whistle blowing it was to late people already died. Guess what he lost his job and never worked as an engineer again.
This was just a quick summary of the 15-20 pg article i had to read.
I wouldnt totally blame ford. Also i forget how long it takes to actually design test and build a car something like 48 months well the pinto only took like 28 i believe.
Dude, I sometimes hate the tone that people read into posts. I wish it could be conveyed the way it's meant.
I don't get defensive. I enjoy the debate more than anything. I enjoy trying to "make my point". I consider myself a smart [non-permissible content removed] and if it comes across as serious.....oh well.
Breastwatch rules.....especially the Rangers.LOL!!!
Mod, Oby, You are both so very entertaining to be quarrelling with each other, especially since you are so very wrong. .....It's not Magnum P.I., Baywatch or Hawaii Five O. It's about seven stranded castaways on a three hour tour.
I used to do oil changes on a Pinto once in a while. It wasn't that the bolts were too long that was the main problem, they were, but the real killer was that they were POINTED!(^!!) I remember the first time I saw the points on the end of those bolts, aimed at the gas tank. What the hell were they thinking? If I remember right, there was MAYBE a hand's width between the tips and the gas tank. And nothing but air between them. I bought a huge box of bolts later at a flea market, and there were a half dozen of what appeared to be the same bolts, along with rounded tipped ones. Just for the hell of it, I tried seeing how much easier it was to punch a hole in a garbage can with either bolt. It took almost nothing to make a 1/4" hole with the pointed one, but you really had to hit the rounded one to actualy penetrate the can. Ford got what they deserved as far as I'm concerned. I don't remember if the Mustang II, basically the same car, was the same way. Probably not, since I never heard of anyone roasting in one.
The only thing wrong with the Corvair was that Nader unfairly attacked it. It was a rear engine car, and wasn't forgiving if driven stupidly. I know someone who owned several from their introduction until the early 80's. He, his wife, and 3 kids never wrecked one of them. His opinion was the "fixed" ones were the worst of the bunch! They screwed up the handling to make it "safe". He didn't keep that one (1968?) too long. There were some good points in "Unsafe at Any Speed", but the Corvair wasn't unsafe, just not a good car to give to someone who didn't understand what it was and how to drive it, just like the 911 "problems" over the years.
Idle and converter can't be changed due to no computer updates......they adjusted the backlash in the diff.....but it only did a small amount..but a little better....they said they will replace entire ring and pinion if I want?....I feel this humm may be due to the fact of haul/towing a bit...and things change?.....oh well...can't even hear it with radio on very low....so be it...
rattle...well.....they bolt in the pass. door for the window bracket was loose and a tighten cured a noise with the window down..but the window up noise is still there sometimes.....i ain't gonna fool with it no more....let the next owner deal with it...(if he even hears it?).....
Took my 99 in to get the seat belt recall done and the cracked rear slider fixed. They didn't have the parts, so they ordered them.
When they called to tell me that, the said they noticed a couple of other problems -
1. The driver's door had a squeak, they replaced the door stop.
2. The driver's door rattled when the window was down, the opened the door and tightened the window mechanism.
And they washed the truck before they gave it back to me!
Never did like the sales department at that dealership, but the service department is quite good. They actually supply service! But, the sales team is why I bought my truck somewhere else.

My rattle was in the dash above the instrument cluster. I just popped the trim out. Next to the vent and autotrac put your fingers in there and pull it out very simple. No problems with my door
I have a topper on my truck and I need to find some weatherstripping for the tailgate to seal out the dirt and dust from coming in when driving down dirt roads. Anyone here have any ideas where I can get something that will work for this purpose? Thanks.
you might try the same foam weatherstripping that's used to seal between the topper and the truckbed rails. you could apply this to the tailgate lip. doesn't your topper have a rubber gasket/weatherstrip where it meets that tailgate? If you applied some other material to the tailgate itself, it might hold the topper lid open a little bit and let dirt in around the sides.
The problem is that dirt is getting in around the tailgate sides and bottom. Where the topper door meets the tailgate isn't a problem at all. Sorry I should have explained it better I guess.
nope, no better explanation needed. I just momentarily came down with a case of dumb-a** and didn't understand what you were talking about! I saw a guy who bought some rubber weatherstripping at a hardware store and epoxied it around the tailgate opening in the bed. Didn't look real great, but it worked. I've wondered about that problem - seems like the Silverado has a pretty big gap around the gate.
I read in the maxim magazine (guys magazine with hot chicks) that in 2002 a GM it doesnt state which one but 1 gm truck will have the delphi quadrasteer like that on the terradyne concept truck. Just thought id pass along the info
Yes it does have a pretty large gap. And man does the back get dirty. Have to say...never had that problem with the Dodge I had before. Oh well there are tradeoffs to everything I guess. I am going to see about finding some weatherstripping that will work but not look too bad..at least when the tailgate is closed.
If you have a Cabela's Master Catalog for Fall 2000, Edition II, look on page 328. They have what is called a "tailgate gap cover" - it may be what you are looking for.
soooo much good stuff. Just what guys want..trucks (everynow and then) and more importantly the chicks! The quadrasteer will probably be put on the Burbs and Silverado's, but half ton only. later, Nick
The tailgate gap cover in Cabela's is not weatherstriping but a rubber hinge that fits across the gap and folds into the gap when you put the tailgate up. If you go with this, you will still probably need some kind of weatherstriping to seal the sides. LOL!
I've been waiting to see a 2001 ado with the new medium neutral II leather interior. A couple of local dealers have not received one in inventory yet. The 2001 brochure simply lists the interior color as 'tan'. Has anyone seen a 2001 with the new interior color?
I just found out that my brother's good friend has a 2000 Silverado half ton that he has taken to the dealership several times to try to get the vibration fixed. I admit I am a Ford guy and this is my first time in this topic, so this might have already been discussed, but what I was hoping to get was some clear, concise info on what he can do. He's wanting to use the lemon law and have them buy the truck back. This is not a bash. I need some info to help this guy out. Thanks. You can email me if you want. Bigsnag@yahoo.com

Sorry hulagirl.

The Chevrolet Covair. Maybe a little before your time.
