Hi - not sure if this is the right forum, but I get the gist - no deals to be had and residuals and MF seem cut-and-dry. I live in Los Angeles - seems like at best every dealer has 1 CRV EX-L Hybrid on the lot. Any sense of when supply situation might improve at all? If that's the car I want sometime in the spring, anyone have any experience in terms of timing how best to approach a dealer? Use a broker? Thank you for any insight from anyone who has gone through the process recently.

Keep an eye on the news. Starting to get reports that the chip shortage may not be resolved until 2023.

If you can hold off on getting car, that would be our advice.

Brokers can help with the search; I wouldn't rule anything out if you need a car sooner.

Get an independent assessment of what the 2018 is worth. You might find it's a really good buy.

What else is involved with the 2022 lease? How much upfront? Are they giving you any credit for equity from your turn-in?

If I self-liquidate the 36-month lease option prices of $17,300 (2018 CRV) and $22,300 (2022 CRV), and for computation purposes use the same monthly payment of $295 and a 3.0% interest rate, it takes 64 months to fully pay-off the 2018 purchase vs. 84 months for the 2022. Since the 2022 model is virtually unchanged from the 2018, why make an extra 20 payments? So buying the 2018 seems to make sense, vs. leasing the 2022 and buying it in 2025.

Any idea what you could get for the 2018 on the open market? (Carmax?).

I'd be much more likely to buy the 2018, if it meant an instant $4K in equity, though. Doesn't mean you have to keep it. But, then you can shop, and make decisions based on the actual cost of a new model
