I'm not sure this is the right venue to ask, but I'll take a stab and you can redirect me. I am finishing up my 2019 Honda CRV lease and am trying to figure out what to do. Any advice?

I'm being told I can buy out my lease but there is a lease buy out fee ($1295) and taxes -- total is $23,000.

Or I can not buy out the lease and they will give me some money (i.e. the difference between my buyout and the market value). Or I can trade this equity into a new lease.

Do you need another car?

If so, you have three options:

(1) Use the equity in the current lease to help lower the payments of the next one - the lease programs are far worse today than they were three years ago, and payments are up across the board.

(2) Buy the car you currently have - the fees seem a bit steep, but I'm not well versed in the details of Honda lease buyouts. The tax part is true, however.

(3) Use the equity in the lease as a down payment to buy your next car - we are finding that payments for a 72 month loan are pretty similar to lease payments.

We are seeing lots of members take options (2) or (3) rather than start a new lease, simply because the programs are not that great.

Your mileage may vary.

This is super helpful. I do need a car right now. My oldest child will be driving in a year so I'm leaning towards buying out this lease and eventually letting him drive this car and I can get a new lease when programs are better.

Have you contacted Honda Finance directly? They may have options to purchase the car directly from them, bypassing the dealer and those big fees.
