+$587 doc fee.

That's about $1900 of fluff.

Otherwise, seems okay. At least you got a discount. The lease program on the Ridgeline is pretty good. It's about $560/mo, all-in, once you amortize your trade equity.

It would be nice to get a breakdown that shows sales tax and the actual adjusted CAP cost, to check the payment.

I agree with your math, and I also agree that you shouldn't use the equity in the trade as cap reduction - you'd lose that money if the new car is stolen or totaled during the lease. Better to get a check for the balance and use that to assist in making your (now higher) payment.

I agree with getting a check cut for any equity, other than taxes, fees and first payment.

But, NJ taxes the depreciation of the lease upfront. That will be coming out of your trade equity. So, that tax number is probably less than you are calculating. Which might account for the difference in payment.

The only thing making me lean towards taking the equity in the form of a check is the worst case scenario of stolen/total. However, I feel like that’s bad juju. Lol, gotta be positive!

That's exactly the reason. Also, when that payment comes, it gives you more of a true representation of the cost of renting the vehicle.
