We were charged $1961 to extend the warranty to 6 years, 100,000 miles, but it is meant to cover everything (supposedly) - the company (?) name for the plan was Portfolio. This was supposedly at the fleet/internet department discounted price - but that could have just been a line......
With all the toys we got on this car, we figured the warranty was worth having.
I used the MazdaUSA website to check the inventory of all the local dealers (and to find out which one had the colors and spec I wanted) and I asked through that website to get quoted on several cars from different dealerships to find out what they were willing to offer the CX-9 for - all were below MSRP, but some more than others - all of them said they would match other prices quoted by the other dealers.
I spoke to the dealer about the $6K off MSRP and they are not honoring these numbers for leases. Is that the deal at the dealers in the bay area or throughout the US. Thanks.
Thanks claireb for the info about the ext. warranty.
Good to know. Going for my first drive in the AM armed with info from Consumer Reports. BTW, anyone care to answer what is TTL and TTR? Did I spell those right? I keep seeing people here reference them.
And I put this on another post, but I'll ask it on this thread too. Found a couple of CX-9's Grand Touring, tricked, under 10K miles, 2008 for under 30K. Being sold used. Carfax said they were "manufacturer's vehicles". I read back and forth on some other sites about how cars like this have been whipped like a rented mule. Others say its a bargain if they have extended warranty - which they do.
The best warranty deal I can find is authorizedfordwarranties.com They sell genuine Mazda warranty. I have not committed to purchase one yet. I will wait till 1 month before my OE warranty expires.
TTL means = Tax + Title fee + License fee In CA, tax rate is based on where you live, not where you buy the vehicle.
A lot of those manufacturers' vehicles could be - loaners - test-drive vehicles Just be aware of that when you buy them.
This forum was a HUGE help in my research, so I thought I'd share my experience with any prospective buyers. It's definitely not the best deal on these boards, but it was the exact car we wanted & low hassle dealing with the internet department via emails.
Bought at a So.Cal dealership: 2008 CX-9 Touring 2wd, White, Towing Package, Entertainment Package & Roof Rails. MSRP=$35,785.
I negotiated a base price of $30,300 and they worked the numbers so the $3000 rebate was not taxed. Total OTD was $32,807 (7.75% to uncle sam). Like I said, not the best price here, but the exact car we wanted and $5,500 off of sticker isn't too shabby in my book.
Congrats! the lowest price is not always the best deal. Time spent haggling (and aggravation) costs money too. you got the car you wanted a the price you were willing to pay - good job!
I'm curious if people think this is a good deal or if there is evidence I can do better.
The car is a 2008 CX9 GT AWD fully loaded. MSRP is $43,412 and dealer invoice is $39,025. They tell me on a lease the best they can do is sell it for dealer invoice less a Mazda rebate of $1,125 off of dealer invoice for a selling price of $37,900 plus 3.2% VA tax, $48 tags, $349 titling, and $595 acquisition fee. Money factor is 0.00148 and the residual is 54%. This is for 3 years and 10,500 miles. The monthly payment they quoted was $585. No security deposit. The math does not exactly work out based on the above (it comes to $579.80 when I do the numbers), but they pay personal property tax each year for us.
If SUVs aren't selling will dealership sell at a loss? Is it possible to get a better deal? Thanks for any and all feedback!
I'm in a similar boat. I have a dealer telling me 3K below invoice is as low as he can go. But I read stuff here saying 6k is more like it. Its all over the map.
Anyone have some hard data on this? A website? Yeah they are selling SO bad new that they are discounting close to the price of a 1 year old used book. And real value 1 year old ones I hear are impossible to sell at book. A lot of people will be upside down on their loans if they sell for so little.
$6100 off MSRP on CX9 (1 at this price ...#####) *include $3000 factory rebate
That says it all, I think. Usually for CX9, the difference between MSRP and INVOICE is about $3-4k. So, I believe $6000 off MSRP or $3000 off invoice are decent price to start negotiating.
You could always do what I did which is to go to the Mazda website and look at the car inventory listed there for your nearest dealers, then pick the same car spec at several different dealers and ask them to quote you their best price and see what they all offer you - the internet/fleet departments seem to offer the best prices.
I then went to the dealer I liked best/had the spec I wanted and even got most of them to say they would match the other dealers offers.
If you are near Hayward Mazda then it would be worth trying their internet department - I got a really good deal through them. Mind you I bought the car and went for money off in lieu of their low Mazda finance deal.
Bought a beautiful glossy black grand touring AWD with the moonroof and nav and towing and remote start and all weather mats/cargo mats and a slew of other stuff. It was same one we test drove a few days before so the saleman (Eric) could familiarize us with all the features the CX-9 offered. (Yeah it didn't have the DVD player, but we already have a twin set of portables we move from car to car so this was a advantage for us.) From what I've seen there's not much else that can be added to the CX-9. Oh man even my wife loves the 20-inch tires!
First. Rave reviews for the vehicle. Quiet and smooth as silk ride, but plenty of power when we want to play. See, we started out our new car buying shop this time test driving Jaguar S-Types and Caddy STS' so we were looking for something fun to drive (Zoom Zoom). But cramming our 8 year old into the back of one of those for long trips up and down the Eastern seaboard when he was used to us renting Lincoln Towncars and Caddys....it was going to be tough in those smaller(faster) cars. Add to that he upchucked in the back of our Civic on an extended trip last week - too cramped and too bumpy. So we stumbled onto the CX-9...and Eric.
He was great. Lots of energy and enthusiam for his product. All of it backed up by knowlege. See...we knew nothing about Mazda. Never looked at one. Know no one that drives one. (We have a hugely successful Honda and Nissan dealership in town along with an old-school Caddy place that people love.) The Mazda dealership is about 30 min away so service is a bit of a hassle drive-wise. But I think we made a good decision. The deal? $6500 off MSRP, the option to buy extended warranty at dealer cost (according to consumer reports), ditto all the accessories at dealer cost. And even the option to buy EcoBlock leather protection + Resistall (a combo package) for the cost of 3 trips to the local detail shop. No pressure to "buy today" or anything. They advised we go do our research and get back to them on it.
Start price was $41,567 Less the $6500 Plus 3% sales tax + extra dealer profit (Doc Fee) of $289 I wrote a check out for $36351
Note: My sympathies for the people who live in states that hate people who do not drive rollerskates. There is no "We hate SUV owner" sales tax in NC. Remember to write your local politicos with your displeasure. Also, in NC the dealer has to label "Doc fee", "Prep fee" etc clearly as "Extra Dealer Profit".
And - like I said - the options to buy some other goodies. For the folks hesitant to buy a dealer-added clearcoat...I would be too if it were $800-1200 that I keep reading about. But I'm lazy. Hate waxing and am willing to see what they can do for $295 - that's leather protection AND paint protection. And I've already found people on the net who collected on the paint protection when a Resistall tech came out and cleaned off overspray from a moronic neighbor's painting adventure.
Sadly they couldn't give me much on my old 1999 CRV trade-in, but it's easy enough to sell that locally for cash and still make between 4-5K on it. So this will eventually work out: The New-Uber-loaded (Eric called it the "Mack-Daddy" and he was right) new CX-9 is going to cost me $31-32K. If you live anywhere near S. Pines N.C. give Bill Smith Mazda a shout. I got to meet the owner and he's as nice as they come. If you want to buy a car from friendly home-town people that know their stuff, are willing to deal and make you feel welcome in the process.....them's the folks.
Sorry for the long post. Just wanted you to get a sense of the fun we've had the past couple of days. THANK YOU Edmunds board moderators and all you folks posting on this board. We stumbled across a good deal and educated outselves in a matter of days with the help of this community. Yeah. I just looked out my window. I'm a little up this morning.....ZOOM ZOOM! :shades:
I currently get an offer for new 2008 Grand Touring AWD for about $28,000 with the following options: * TOWING PACKAGE (don't really need this) * BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM * ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS * ROOF RAILS * SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO * WHEEL LOCKS
How does it look?
Can anybody enlighten me about a difference between Touring and Grand Touring besides 20-inch wheels. I spent about 2 hours crawling the web and trying to figure it out. Mazda web site mixes standard features and options, so it's not informative.
Also, I can't seem to find the price for blind-spot monitoring option on Edmunds. Anyone knows what is the price for such option?
According to MazdaUsa.com Grand Touring: Touring model plus: * 20" alloy chrome wheels * Auto on/off xenon high-intensity discharge low-beam headlights w/ manual leveling & plus fog lights * Side view mirrors with marker lights & chrome door handles * Rain-sensing, variable-intermittent windshield wipers * 3 memory setting, 8-way adjustable power diver's seat with power lumbar support & silver and wood patterned trim accents * Electroluminescent gauges and blue indirect lighting * Smart card with Mazda advanced keyless entry and start system * Blind spot monitoring system* (available fall 2007)
I remember that BSM is an option of $200. Invoice is around $150 for it.
No choice of colors. Basically this quote is for a certain car and they have no more of those. But the Crystal White is the color I like, so this is no problem. Actually, this car is way more than I need but I will be looking at it tonight anyways as I feel it's decent deal.
Ok after reading the posts for weeks. I am finally going to close the deal today. I am glad I waited so long. thank you Everybody for posting your pricing I could not have done it without you..... MSRP 40,215 My price 30,900 I just have to pay tax and tags. I even got the color combo I wanted.
I've got an offer for an 08 GT FWD, with Nav, Moonroof, BSM, Tow with an MSRP of 39,330 for 36,552 plus taxes/fees. Then I could either do the Mazda financing (1.9 for 60 mos) or take another 2k off the price. From my earlier reading, this seemed to be a decent deal, but in light of some of these new numbers I am seeing, it doesn't look quite as good.
Has everyone recently had the choice of taking some more money off OR the financing deal? How much lower do you think I can expect to get this for? I'll probably want to make a counter offer, but I'm just not sure what I could legitimately get it down to.
Ok, Here is how I got the deal . I took the $4000 rebate intead of 1.9 and found my own Financing. the rate I found was 4.9 working the numbers my payment was 4 dollars more a month. Using my Financing . I was back and forth between Manhattan and Wantagh mazda they were willing to negotiate the most. Wantagh was awesome, I am really happy with them !!! I pick up my car tonight.
Here's a tip... go to autotrader.com search for new CX-9 find dealers with large amount of inventory and offer at least $7000.00 under MSRP. The 2009 vehicles will be here soon and dealers have to move the 2008. Don't be afraid to walk away, we the buyers have a big advantage....use it, they have to move these vehicles.
i have a deal on the table at 34,300 gt-awd, assist package, towing, entertainment, wheel lock, blind spot msrp 41,740 with 7,716 off for a sales price of 34,024.
So here's the story. Bought car 1.5wks ago. Just brought it into the dealership yesterday for aftermarket installations. Picked up this evening.
(1) There was a small dent on the driver's side door near the handle. (2) There were scratches on the hood. (3) A small 'smudge' near the driver's side side view mirror - difficult to describe but seems like the paint is worn in that spot. (4) The center console was not put back, the faux wood paneling was hanging off.
What should I do? Please advise. The service center was closed this evening so they took down the issues and will tell them first thing in the morning and have them call me.
Obviously get all 4 items fixed. Do you know if these are 'easily' fixed problems? I think the dent can come out. But the scratches and smudge I'm worried about because of how it might leave the paint finish. Any advice will be appreciated.
After that, I think I should ask for some other things to compensate for the damage, and stress, and just the fact that I just bought a ~$40k car 1.5wks ago, and now there's damage done to it!!!! Free service?? Can't think of anything else, I'm sure all of you out there will have some ideas!! My highlander of 5 years doesn't even have a scratch or a dent!!!
Very dissapointed. Please help with some direction to take in this situation.
I just took delivery of an 08 GT with an MSRP of 39,550, got it for 32,102 (including dealer fee and destination then + tax and tags which are 388 here). They also brought the car to me since they were about 2 hours away, so that was a nice bonus. I did also buy extra bumper to bumper warranty to 100k for 1,600 which I was mixed on doing, but I just figured that now I don't have to worry about it and I'm still paying less in total than I had expected just to just a month of so ago. Lastly, the dealer got me financing for 4.5% for 60 mos which was better than I could find other places.
Seems like it was a pretty good deal, though if they keep going down like this, it might not look so good in a couple months.
Anyway, love the car so far, just wish you could enter a navi destination while you are driving.
hello I am researching on CX9 AWD GT with moonroof. the local dealer quote me the msrp of 38200 as suppose to 37050 on the edmunds. what should be the right MSRP for GT AWD with moonroof?
Just picked up an 08 GT AWD w. Bose, Sunroof, tow pkg, BSM, white pearl for $29,490. It had 4 miles on it. Got a $4,500 "Walser" discount plus $4,000 from Mazda for not financing. So I paid cash, but can't complain about getting a loaded $37,900 car for $29.5K.
While it is not on Mazda's web site... the additional 4K off is in place of the 0% 36 financing option. So if you can pay cash, go for it.
Today picked up '08 GT AWD Liquid Platinum with Bose/Sunroof, Roof Rails, All Weather Mats, Sirius, BSM, Autodim Mirror w/Compass with 2 miles on it. Destination fee was included but taxes and tags were not.
The MSRP was $38.345.00, I got it for $27,982. What do you guys think?
To be precise it is $10,400 off MSRP. I agree it's an amazing deal. If you are in MA/RI/CT email Metro Mazda in Raynham, MA for a quote and see what you get.
I paid cash, but I believe you have to finance with their source. Your best bet is to check with their internet sales manager. Contact me at sleepybubba at gmail dot com and I can give you a name of Internet Sales Manager who gave me such a great deal.
Been to two mazda dealers to buy a CX-9. I was referring to the discount [sleepybubba] got in MA and these guys were not ever ready to listen. They think themselves to be largest Mazda dealer in North America, but does not want to get rid of the 08 stock.
Anyone have better experience w/ Northern Jersey dealers, please share. The dealers I had bad experience are Lodi & Wayne dealers.
I think it is close to invoice price, but currently there is a $4000 rebate from Mazda. So effectively the TRUE invoice is now $31539. Expect great deals at the end of model year.
I paid less than that in April '08 when the incentive was only $1,500. My CX-9 had an MSRP of $41,405 including remote start. It took some work, but I got them down to $35,000 plus taxes and tags. In April, that was about the best you could do.
I'd take their [non-permissible content removed] back to school, or find another dealer willing to "deal".
Right now, the bottom line is nearly $10,000 off of MSRP. Believe me, I know this the hard way.
Your price would be a fair price on an '09, but way too high for an '08 at model close.
They are comming down now on the grand touring 2008 GT AWD with gt assist, towing package, Moonroof/bose, Blindspot, All weather floor mates, roof rails, front/rear splash guard
I bought an '08 GT FWD, moodroof/bose/navigation (basically everything but AWD and DVD) for $32,300. I got them to knock half off the navigation system because I bought another CX-9 and the computer went bad the first day. Since the computer is on backorder they wanted to give me a loaner for the duration. I told them to get me into another vehicle, one with navigation, and I would split the difference. They also ordered a roof rack for me at no charge. I am happy with my buying experience, and absolutely love my new CX-9. Milo Gordon Mazda, Lawton, OK.
Does any one know the differences between the 2009 Cx-9 and the 2008 CX-9.
I am in the market for a SUV with 7 seats, i am still deciding between a Acura MDX and this vehicle. I was getting quotes for an ACURA MDX with sport package for 38 K Where as this CX-9 , i best i could get was 32K ( with the navigation and moonroof packages ) .
Is it worth it for going for CX-9 for a 6k difference ?
I found that the Cx-9 depreciates a lot faster than the MDX
If you know you will be selling your car in 4-5 years, of course the luxury cars depreciate less. Although at this point it's hard to say how the CX-9 will depreciate as the car is not even 2 years-old and there is not enough data to measure the depreciation.
The CX-9 won me due to a) the price and b) the sum of all features you are getting for the price. Comparing the GT package I got (see here) and MDX Base I was after, the GT has practially everything the MDX base had. On the top of that, the CX-9 has much larger and more comfortable interior, especially in the third row seat area and cargo room, and much quieter ride while still being very responsive. And look at those beautiful 20" wheels...
If you are unsure, test-drive both and see what you like more.
Hi, all... after lurking through this forum and others for current pricing, I went in well-prepared to deal on an '08 CX-9. Without your posts and price quotes I wouldn't have known about the possibilities on this car. Thanks!
Picked up an '08 GT AWD, 23 miles, GT assist, tow package, blind spot monitor, moonroof/Bose. Sticker was $40,290 and they agreed to $33,290 on a cash deal, and added surprisingly fair valuation of a ~$5k trade-in. I'm sure even better deals can be struck, especially if the car you're interested in is on the dealer's lot. In my case, they retrieved our car from another bay area dealer... I could've gone to the other dealership and dealt with them instead, but our "neighborhood" dealer's sales staff had spent their time and effort with me and they will also be our service site. It does look like the mazda.com "inventory search" is quite accurate, that's for sure.
One note for other buyers: inspect the paint on these cars carefully; many have been on the lot for the entire summer and have been poorly washed/dried MANY times. Expect to see water spots on the darker color paints... etched water spots can be almost impossible to remove, even with a clay bar or mechanical polishing by a detailer. This is a valid negotiation point to use in your deal.
> Does anyone know the difference between 2008 Cx-9 and the 2009 CX-9.
Here are the differences posted on Mazda websire.
New or enhanced for 2009:
* Trip computer standard on all models * Bluetooth phone capability added to Sport model * Sirius satellite radio added to Moonroof, BOSE® Audio Package and Rear Seat Entertainment System Package * Auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink® added to Grand Touring model * Heated seats and heated outside mirrors added to Sport Power Seat Package * Trailer tow preparation standard on AWD
note: according to my understanding (take MDX as an example)... Tow Preparation means you get large-capacity radiator, larger transmission cooler and special programming (like those in 2008 tow package), maybe even the trailer wiring, but you don't get the hitch itself. After all, hitch added 30lb of dead weight if one does not need it.
Here is what was offered to me at Wantagh Mazda, NY:
CX-9 Touring AWD Moonroof/Bose MSRP: 35,400 took 4,000 rebate e-plan (supposedly) Price offered before taxes: 28,550 OTD: 31,000
I think this is an OK deal, but can see by your posts I can get either a GT for that price or more options. I was thinking about going back and making an OTD offer at 29,000. Is this a bad idea.
In addition, a lease was offered to me: $2600 intial payment will buyout my lease ($500) 36 month 16,500 miles $439 per month

That's an amazing price ALMOST $10,000.00 off MSRP.... Where did you get that deal? Best I've been able to haggle is $7610.00 off MSRP
If you can't post it, could you please email me.
Thanks

Has everyone recently had the choice of taking some more money off OR the financing deal? How much lower do you think I can expect to get this for? I'll probably want to make a counter offer, but I'm just not sure what I could legitimately get it down to.
Thanks for all the info on this forum, its great.
Here is how I got the deal . I pick up my car tonight.
i have a deal on the table at 34,300 gt-awd, assist package, towing, entertainment, wheel lock, blind spot msrp 41,740 with 7,716 off for a sales price of 34,024.
Seems like it was a pretty good deal, though if they keep going down like this, it might not look so good in a couple months.
Anyway, love the car so far, just wish you could enter a navi destination while you are driving.
Thanks for the help on this forum.
I am researching on CX9 AWD GT with moonroof.
the local dealer quote me the msrp of 38200 as suppose to 37050 on the edmunds.
what should be the right MSRP for GT AWD with moonroof?
the lowest OTD price he gave me is $31088.
is this a good price?
thanks
B
While it is not on Mazda's web site... the additional 4K off is in place of the 0% 36 financing option. So if you can pay cash, go for it.
The MSRP was $38.345.00, I got it for $27,982. What do you guys think?
Did you have to pay cash to get that price?
Is your price, which is $10,400 off MSRP, the OTD price or the price before TTL? Thanks.
Anyone have better experience w/ Northern Jersey dealers, please share. The dealers I had bad experience are Lodi & Wayne dealers.
cash price 35, 539.00 in WA state
i dont think it is ( they say this is the invoice price)
So effectively the TRUE invoice is now $31539. Expect great deals at the end of model year.
I'd take their [non-permissible content removed] back to school, or find another dealer willing to "deal".
Right now, the bottom line is nearly $10,000 off of MSRP. Believe me, I know this the hard way.
Your price would be a fair price on an '09, but way too high for an '08 at model close.
It may be worth taking the money and arranging for financing outside of Mazda.
They are comming down now on the grand touring 2008 GT AWD with gt assist, towing package, Moonroof/bose, Blindspot, All weather floor mates, roof rails, front/rear splash guard
to 33,539 cash
do you guys think i can do better
Milo Gordon Mazda, Lawton, OK.
I am in the market for a SUV with 7 seats, i am still deciding between a Acura MDX and this vehicle.
I was getting quotes for an ACURA MDX with sport package for 38 K
Where as this CX-9 , i best i could get was 32K ( with the navigation and moonroof packages ) .
Is it worth it for going for CX-9 for a 6k difference ?
I found that the Cx-9 depreciates a lot faster than the MDX
The CX-9 won me due to a) the price and b) the sum of all features you are getting for the price. Comparing the GT package I got (see here) and MDX Base I was after, the GT has practially everything the MDX base had. On the top of that, the CX-9 has much larger and more comfortable interior, especially in the third row seat area and cargo room, and much quieter ride while still being very responsive. And look at those beautiful 20" wheels...
If you are unsure, test-drive both and see what you like more.
Here are the differences posted on Mazda websire.
New or enhanced for 2009:
* Trip computer standard on all models
* Bluetooth phone capability added to Sport model
* Sirius satellite radio added to Moonroof, BOSE® Audio Package and Rear Seat Entertainment System Package
* Auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink® added to Grand Touring model
* Heated seats and heated outside mirrors added to Sport Power Seat Package
* Trailer tow preparation standard on AWD
note: according to my understanding (take MDX as an example)... Tow Preparation means you get large-capacity radiator, larger transmission cooler and special programming (like those in 2008 tow package), maybe even the trailer wiring, but you don't get the hitch itself. After all, hitch added 30lb of dead weight if one does not need it.
CX-9 Touring AWD
Moonroof/Bose
MSRP: 35,400
took 4,000 rebate
e-plan (supposedly)
Price offered before taxes: 28,550
OTD: 31,000
I think this is an OK deal, but can see by your posts I can get either a GT for that price or more options. I was thinking about going back and making an OTD offer at 29,000. Is this a bad idea.
In addition, a lease was offered to me:
$2600 intial payment
will buyout my lease ($500)
36 month
16,500 miles
$439 per month
Need some advice...think i can do better on both.
