Purchased '10 Mazda CX9 GT FWD in Pearl White with Navi, Moonroof/Bose, Towing Prep, Power R.Hatch, Roof Rack, Step Plate, Wind deflector, wheel locks for $35K with 0% financing. Memphis 3/14

Here is an out the door (drive out) price on a 2010 Grand Touring (base - no added options) as provided by a local dealer, using the 0% financing: $32,755.80. Considering it is only a couple weeks until the end of the dealer quarter, and the dealer has a dozen of these vehicles on the lot, I want the best deal possible. On the other hand, I want to be realistic. May questions are these. Is this internet drive out price provided by the dealer a good deal? How realistic is my potential counter offer of $30,000 (drive out)? Looks like we are about $2,700 apart at this point. Thanks in advance!

Is this a FWD or AWD? If AWD, would you mind stating your location?

With all due respect and no offense intended, but I think you're better off using the 10K, that you're putting down on a 0% loan, on something else. Like, if you have other debt or even a mortgage that accrues interest, it might be better to put 10K towards those instead of a loan that accrues no interest. It's like investing 10K towards something that does not earn interest.

If the intent is to lower monthly payments, I can understand. But, if you put 10K into something that can earn even a miniscule amount of interest, you're still better off than 0%. Just a thought, and again, no offense intended.

    It is FWD, Tampa, Florida.

So the numbers break down something like this...

    Invoice on an FWD: 30206
    Destination: 750 (normally)
Tax Title License: ~8% (FL is 6% tax; figure 2% for tax and title)
    -----------------------------------------
    Total: 33432

So you're getting out of there roughly $600 under what I would consider a straight invoice price.

IMO, I think its a pretty good deal and one of the reasons it might be selling under what can normally be got is that a GT with no options is probably not a highly sought after car. But then again, I haven't pulled the trigger yet on a purchase so I can't say exactly what I would settle for :shades:

Not to be picky, but isn't the S-Plan price closer to $33800?

    Invoice: $31498
    Bose / Moon roof: $1939
    Power LF Gt: $344

    Total: $33781

Something I'm never sure of in this forum is whether people are including destination or not when they release figures before TTL. What's the standard?

    B/c with destination of $750, you're pretty close: $34531

Since the destination charge is posted on the invoice of every car, and is considered part of the cost, I have no idea why people and some dealers choose to exclude it from their pricing!

One item you are forgetting about the S-Plan is the regional assessment charge (advertising fee) that is also billed to the car. It is roughly $400 on a CX-9
  • aztcufrogaztcufrog Member Posts: 7
There is no standard. I always include it, as should everyone else, since you can't drive it off the boat yourself. I know why dealers would try to hide it somehow (snakes) but for anyone on here it's just silly to not include in their numbers since we're all paying for it.
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
How about this price for a 2010 Grand Touring, FWD, with navigation and moonroof/bose, total drive out price: $33,650.80. I live in Tampa, FL.
    What do you think?
  • jrumermanjrumerman Member Posts: 6
I think that's a pretty great deal. That's a couple grand better than the last one you posted!

If that truly does include everything (TTL + invoice + destination), I'd be pretty happy with that. That's going in my coffer of deals to note when negotiating.

Is that with $1000 back or with 0% fiancing?

Hi, thanks for your feedback. That is with 0% financing and includes everything. It is actually my counter-offer to the internet price quoted in the first post. I will let you know how it goes. As of now, we are about $3k apart. Tampa dealer has about 20 Grand Tourings on their lot and it is count down until the end of the quarter. Do you know what other incentives the dealers are receiving on this car? Do you also know if there are any application fees, surcharges, etc. associated with the zero percent financing? I know of one unscrupulous dealer in the area who claimed that Mazda was not offering 0% but was offering 0.9% financing instead - an extra $1500/yr in the dealer's pocket. MD

I cannot speak for the South East Region, however, here in the North East, Mazda pays nothing but holdback on the CX-9's. I can promise you, it's no where near $3,000.

    Hi All.
If you buy at one location but want to get warranty and service at another location is this ok? There are at least 5 locations in my general area that I would drive to in order to get a better price, but for the most part there is really only one close enough for service/warranty.
    Thanks, J~

Anyone here purchase a Grand Touring FWD with Bose/moonroof+ Pwrlift gate (no Nav), and what prices did you get? I've seen list prices for 32.6 k and 32.3 K offered. But other dealerships closer have a much higher list price like 35 K? Thanks. This forum has been helpful. I was tempted by a slightly used MDX with the same price, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

Are you paying cash or 0% financing? Is it FWD or AWD? I think you are getting a decent deal if it is AWD but probably can do better. IMO, you are paying $2,250 more than myself for blind spot monitoring, larger wheels, automatic wipers, and turn signals on your mirrors (main differences between GT and T). You are not even getting the Navigation package which is the great benefit of stepping up to a GT. Also, I think the midwest has an extra $1500 in dealer incentives out there which the dealers do not get in Florida. If you don't need Navigation,I would just consider a Touring with the Moonroof/Bose and Powerlift gate. Hope that helps. MD.

Thanks for you quick response......its a AWD and I am doing 0% financing......the 8 year 120K warranty added 2300 to the deal......
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
    edited March 2010
Are you going to be driving this car in 8 years? I think you are getting a poor deal on the warranty. You are basically giving them $2,300 to hold for you for three years until your warranty expires. Even then, you need to incur $2300 in repairs to break even. Tell them to remove the warranty, give you navigation, and take off $1,000. If they say no, move on to the next dealer. You can always buy an extended warranty later.
  • jayrujayru Member Posts: 2
Was this a Touring or a Grand Touring? I think I remember you quoting a GT price in a previous post that was very similar...
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
The vehicle which I purchased is a Touring with the options listed. The price quoted earlier was for a Grand Touring, without Moonroof/Bose or PowerLift Gate.

Anyone know how long the 0% for 60 mo. financing will be around? I know it currently says to 3/31, but our lease is not up until June. I may just pull the trigger anyway, free money is always nice. Wifey really only needs leather and the power hatch, but the get the power hatch, she needs to buy the Bose, etc. I have a quote from local dealer if invoice on a Touring, with the bose/power hatch of $31,650, or w/ TTL, is $34,927.19. Good deal? can we do better? Thanx,
    joel
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
Hello, I got $33k out the door on the Touring with bose/power hatch. California fees/taxes might be higher than Florida, but I would like to see you take $1,000 of that price. In short, I believe you can do better. The 0% financing is only good until March 31.

Looking for GT AWD in North Jersey, with RSES, Nav and power liftgate as options. Is $750 below invoice feasible?

I am ready to pull the trigger on a CX9 GT FWD with the moon roof/bose/pwr liftgate and no navi. I am in the Atlanta area and so far have a best price of $34.5K OTD cash price ($31.7K vehicle price). Does anyone have any buying experience in Atlanta? Can I do any better?
  • voltronvoltron Member Posts: 3
Good deal or bad? $439 a month lease, 42 months, 15k, $2439 out of pocket, Touring edition, leather only, AWD, no sunroof package.
  • voltronvoltron Member Posts: 3
WOW!!!! Congrats! good deal!!!! I think i'm getting screwed in my deal?
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
Yes, you can do better if you are paying cash. I would consider that a good deal if you got the navigation as well. In my opinion, navigation is the reason why you should jump to the GT, otherwise just go with the Touring. For a Touring, I would pay no more than $32,500 OTD using cash. Basically, you are paying $2,000 extra for blind spot monitoring, fog lights, seat memory, and turn signals on your mirrors - not worth it in my book. I am familiar with the Atlanta market, having once lived there. Which dealer gave you this offer? How many dealers have you shopped at? My research reveals that you have an additional $500 rebate through the end of the month for the Auto Show in the Atlanta area. The dealer should give it to you automatically. In short, my advise is this, go back to the dealer and ask for that price with the Navigation. If the dealer says no, WALK OUT, and shop the price at the next dealer. I have a feeling with the last weekend of the quarter coming up, the $500 rebate, and 7-8 Atlanta dealers competing with each other, you will get a better price. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I just got a quote for a 2010 Stormy Blue AWD Touring, after market moon roof, remote start and wheel locks TT&L out the door for $33,734 and 0% for 60 months. Is that a good deal? Arlington Heights, IL Thanks
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
I would like to see you get a better deal. It is the last weekend of the quarter coming up. Your car does not even have the Moonroof/Bose package or power hatch. I would pay no more than $34,000 out the door for an AWD Touring with Moonroof/Bose and Power Hatch/Remote Start. You can probably even negotiate it down to $33,000 out the door with these options since the Midwest region has some extra dealer incentives of $1500 through the end of the month. For that particular vehicle, I would pay no more than $32,000 out the door. As I suggest in the forum, shop your price at other dealers. It is important to show up in person with the other dealer's quote, tell them you are ready to do business today if they beat the quote by a certain amount (after of course you get their best price), and walk out if they refuse to do so, going to the next dealer. Soon, you will have multiple dealers calling you and you will have a great idea about what is a great deal. Hope it is helpful, just let me know how it goes.

I am thinking to purchase a white CX-9 GT with Moonroof/Bose package. I am living in St. Louis MO area (63131). What will be the right price or best deal I can get? Any advice??
  • pcvtrepcvtre Member Posts: 2
Unfortunately, with 2 infants I can't go from dealer to dealer. I did email four different dealers and one wouldn't even come close to this deal. Another was going to give me a similar deal but with a Sport and after market leather seats. I don't really need the power hatch or bose. He is looking for the car now, so we shall see if he can make the deal happen. $33,000 vs $33,700 isn't bad to me. Thanks a lot for the advise, I appreciate it. pcvtre.

I got the quote for a 2010 White Pearl CX-9 GT with Moonroof/Bose + power lift gate package for $33,850 + tax and registration fee. Is it good price? The dealer keeps saying that he can offer extra $1,000 if I am not taking 0% for 60 months financing. He said they are buying 0% financing. Is it true? What price would be a great deal? Please advise me with any comments, thanks.

mazdaduck..thank you for the great advice. I have only visited 2 (Roswell and Mall of GA) to negotiate and I have been trying to get solid quotes from all the other dealerships on the northside over phone/email but it has been a real struggle to even get some of them to reply. I am going to start "pounding the pavement" today and end with the dealership that has the exact CX9 my wife wants and the largest inventory (28 Ts and GTs) by Friday.
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
Good idea dnds. I had trouble getting responses from the internet department as well. I would recommend Rick Case in Gwinnett and Jim Ellis in Marietta - both have great inventory (Rick Case is a national dealer). If you go to Rick Case, see Gary, he was very helpful on the phone with me although I bought the car in Florida. I did not have a good experience speaking with the Roswell folks. Keep us posted. MD (Mazda Duck)

Hi ark, yes the dealer is telling you the truth. But, to get the best deal, you want them to give you the 0% AND the $1,000. Your first problem is that you have not been provided an Out the Door price for the car (including tax, dealer fee, registration). You need to get that price from the dealer. Is your vehicle AWD or FWD? Let me know that info and I will analyze your deal. MD
  • ark8012ark8012 Member Posts: 7
First of all, thanks MD (mazdaduck). The problem is that we do not pay tax and registration fee at the dealership here (St. Louis, MO). We need to go DMV in 30 days to purchase the title and pay sales tax on the newly purchased vehicle. So we always need to think those are separately. My vehicle is FWD. Thank you for your advice. Invoice after holdback on GT = $30,303
    Invoice on Moonroof/Bose = $1939
Invoice on liftgate for GT = $344
    White Pearl = $172

    Total = $32,758 ($32,500 would be a great deal)

So Ark, as of now, you are paying $1000 over invoice for the vehicle on the last week of the quarter which, in my impression, is not a great deal. I would offer the dealer in person $1,000 less, tell them you are ready to buy today, and if they don't take the deal or try to meet you in the middle, walk out and go to another dealer. Make sure the dealer has your cell phone number and I am sure they will call you. Also, the midwest region has an extra $1,500 in dealer incentives. Just a hunch, might be might be able to get this vehicle for $31,000 across the river in IL which is in that region
. I would shop some dealers there as well. Let me know how it goes!

That is because mazdaduck might be giving you completely unrealistic sense of what you could buy the car for in your area.

Dealers do not operate based on quarterly sales, only monthly sales. The manufacturer does operate on quarterly sales, however, it is not their job to sell cars below invoice to make sales expectations. Its the dealers decision to do that, and if the dealer is satisfied with sales and inventory supply, then there is no reason to lose money on a transaction. If you really want to get technical when buying a car, you need all the facts first.

9 times out of 10, you get a better deal by shopping online rather then walking into a dealership. The way you are shopping is the best way to get the best deal possible. Good luck!

    mazdaduck,
How would you rate this deal. It was done back in Nov 2009, so the dynamics may have changed a bit since then.

A 2010 Touring FWD in Crystal Pearl White, equipped with Moonroof/Bose and Powerliftgate.

    OTD was 33,500

We have a Minneapolis dealer looking for a used 2009 or 2010 CX-9 GT loaded with Nav and moonroof, or Nav and RSES w/Bose/Sirius, LG2 and RSE. We have to pay cash because financing is not offered to Canadian citizens. We also have to pay 6.1% duty at the border because Mazda's are imports. Walser Mazda is telling us they can get a used 2010 Grand Touring loaded with moonroof or DVD system, with less than 10K, driven by Mazda reps, and are we willing to pay $33,000? With 6.1% duty added we're looking at $35K for the vehicle, plus we have to pay our taxes and we have to add another $400-$500 for DRL (daytime running lights), safety checks and admin. costs. So true cost is about $35,500 - $36,000 plus taxes. Would you pay $33K U.S. for a used 2010 with remainder of warranty and around 10K mileage? No dealer incentives here. How should we proceed? Used CX-9's are hard to come by. Need your advice on this, thx. :confuse:
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
Aviboy, I disagree with your assessment that I am providing "completely unrealistic" advice. I know that the deal is realistic because I actually purchased a vehicle earlier this week for $33,000 out the door, zero percent financing (that is a 2010 FWD Touring, with Moonroof Bose and Powerlift, and 3 miles on it). I believe that the consumers in this forum want to hear about prices paid for the vehicle by other consumers (hence, the topic of the post) even if they might not ultimately get the same deal in their area. If pcvtre does not have the time to shop around, that is fine. For others like me who want to spend a weekend aggressively negotiating the best deal with multiple dealers, my advice might be helpful. You are correct on the quarterly/monthly sales issue - I will give you that. And, if dealers gave consumers "all the facts first" - as you put it - there would be no need for this forum.
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
Buyer, I would say that was a very good deal, congrats!
  • mazdaduckmazdaduck Member Posts: 40
Hi Jets, I am not sure what your trade was worth so it is tough to assess. Sounds like a great deal with just the OTD price though!
