I'm in zip code 20148 (Northern VA) and went to a local dealer today to get pricing on a new 2023 GLS 450 for purchase. I was given the following breakdown:

1. Base MSRP: $81,800
   
2. Driver Assistance Package: $1,950
   
3. Natural Grain Brown Walnut Trim: $160
   
4. 21" Triple 5-Spoke Wheels: $1,100
   
5. Dashcam: $200
   
6. Rear Side airbags: $700
   
7. Heated Steering Wheel: $250
   
8. 5-Zone climate control: $500 (the MBUSA site lists it for $400)
   
9. Illuminated running boards: $650
   
10. Augmented Video for Navigation: $350
    
11. Load Sill Protector: $175
    
12. All-Season Front/Rear Floormats: $170
    
13. First Aid Kit: $35
    
14. Delivery & Destination Charges: $1,150
    

All of that brings the total price to $89,190. The dealer said the GLS is on order only, shortage of on-lot stock but there is no premium/markup. The expected build star date is 6/23/2023.

I would like to check:

• Whether they are correct in that the only way is to order-to-build
  
• Whether the price is a fair price. Looking at jdpowers.com/cars it seems like similar builds cost:
  • Average transaction: approximately $99k
    
  • Range: $92,588 - $99,764
    
  • Invoice: $83,813
    
  • MSRP: $88,690
    
• Whether there will be any scope for negotiation on the sale price

We don't know the ordering process. It's pretty easy to check inventory of nearby dealers to see if they have any in stock.

Use the Price Checker link below, to get Edmunds research on pricing.

If the dealer gives you an MSRP for an order, that's likely to be more accurate than JDPower. The invoice amount won't matter. You aren't going to get it for that.

The residual is fixed by the bank, and the dealer cannot alter it.

The MF, however, can be marked up by the dealer for extra profit. And, many do.

Hi,

Currently negotiating my lease as I type, and following up on my previous post regarding variability of MF rate.

I just got a response from nearby dealership located about a mile away (their zip is 10801; mine is 10538) that "The standard Money factor on our GLS lease is .00330"

Can this be true? I was told on the forum that the standard MF for a 2023 MB GLS450 is .00275 (for Tier A1 customers, which I am).

They are marking up the rate for extra profit, and telling you it's the base rate.

Hi All - I spent 2 hours at the MB dealer today and got the follow lease offer. What do you think? I can't recreate the numbers in the Edmunds calculator so I think there are are some hidden costs.

Balance after discount, acquisition fee, and fees is $88,522.47.

Based on Edmunds, the lease payment should be $1,477 + 9% tax which is $1609.93.

Any advice on if this is a good deal and why there is a difference with Edmunds lease calculator would be greatly appreciated.

If you have top tier credit, the MF is being marked up.

Nothing is due at signing? Not even the first payment? If that's the case, then you have to add that to the balance, as well.
