I got my '02 DC from Walnut Creek Toyota, for $500 over invoice for a loaded 2WD model. Ask for Joe Goosetry, he will treat you right!

No, I wasn't. I was hoping it would be in Texas so I would have one more place to try. Oh well....

I assumed you were in California. Try going online to find a dealer.

sc0rpi0, I haven't had a chance to go yet, then next week we go to the field (military) for the whole week.

Has anyone used a K&N Filter on their Tacoma?

    Results?
  • sc0rpi0sc0rpi0 Member Posts: 897
There's been a lot of talk on tacomaterritory.com about differences between Amsoil and K'N filters...from what I found on the net (don't know where the link is now, but you can search google for "amsoil K&N comparison") is that Amsoil really has a constant airflow characteristics throughout the between-cleaning period, whereas K&N clogs up very quickly. The fact that K&N allows "more airflow than any other filter" is really crap, since even paper filter allows enough airflow. And with deckplate mod, airflow is not a problem anymore.
I have Amsoil in my truck, I'm happy. Oh, also......on the ttora site (tacomaterritory), bunch of guys from TN just did a big dyno run, you might be interested in the results. K&N came out a little bigger on the hp than Amsoil.
I also heard that quite a few people experienced dust past the K&N filter.
I like Amsoil. It's cheaper than K&N, and seems to have good reputation.

Anything to report about affect on other drive train components (transmission etc)? Heard you need to upgrade fuel system too. Comments?

I have a 2001 TRD with a S/C and have zero pinging or detonation problems. It is rumored that the 2001's on have larger injectors so no modifications are needed.

My runs great and have noticed zero behavior alterations with my Trans. and I have an Auto. If you have 5sp. and heavier clutch package may be in order.

    Anymore questions just ask.

Oh yea, the S/C makes the stock v6 feel like a Geo Metro--- WELL WORTH IT:)

New 2001+ models have no problems with pinging, from what I hear. With old ones, you either have to live with it, or get something like "TRD kit" or something. Check on www.tacomaterritory.com forums, you'll find best info there.

    -is that a good thing??

It's all relative... Just trying to make the point of what a difference it makes.

I know, I'm just giving you a hard time. But if a toyota salesman ever pitched the S/C to me using the geo metro analogy I think I'd walk out the door. :)

Let's roll this one into the already existing Toyota Tacoma topic. Otherwise we'll wind up with a bunch of topics that are far too narrow in scope.

    Thanks!
