Yes, and the price is negotiated between BMWFS and the dealer - it could be below the residual value.

So when negotiating your new lease, and pressing the issue of equity in the vehicle to be returned, I've had more than one dealer say they will reduce lease price due to equity but reserve the right to reassess the vehicle at time of drop off/delivery of new vehicle. I can appreciate that, and on its face doesn't seem unreasonable, but is there a viable strategy to reduce one's exposure to "phantom" problems that might be claimed?

There is a much greater likelihood that the market will move against you, than the dealer making up issues.

If you are ordering a vehicle, then there is no way to protect the value of your current vehicle , until the other one shows up.

Doesn't matter who you buy it from ... you want to make sure it isn't a 3rd party warranty company.

It’s strange. BMW direct when in was pacing the order had a set pricing but the dealer pricing doesn’t match that.

Dealer can upcharge the price of the warranty. You'll have to negotiate it, just like any price.
