    U got a good deal!
I check w/ the dealer they told me the regular price for the woodgrain dash kit is $210, even using the 15% off coupon they send me 3 week ago, it still cost CDN$178 + tax. Is they give u 20% off regular price?

Where can I find out what the manufacture date is of my Santa Fe? Is it on a nameplate somewhere?
I got mine two weeks ago, a GLS V6, Pine Green which is very nice looking, it changes color in the sunlight like it has blue in it. I got cloth seats rather than leather and I love this vehicle It rides great and feels very tight. I had a 1999 Ford Explorer loaded with everything that I leased for two years. It had 5 recalls plus the tire thing, it pings all the time and the ride is lousy my wife wouldn't ride in it. The Santa Fe is great. While buying it, my wife saw the 2001 Sonata GLS with moon roof and leather, (Napoli Blue) and she traded in her 2000 Elantra! I never thought I would have two Hyundai's in our garage. I have always owned Fords. I think they are both well built cars for the money. I have enjoyed all of the posts here and will share things as I drive my new Santa Fe.

    Manufacture Date:
Open the driver door! There should be a tag/sticker right at the metal close to the seat. It is actually stick between the front and rear door on the driver side. Check it out..

That's strange... Campaign notices are mailed out directly to car owners by manufacturer. Have you received any phone call or mail from Hyundai?
  • wxeyewxeye Member Posts: 9
I found the nameplate between the doors Thanks! Perhaps I was lucky or what. As noted earlier post about with the crash test, SF's built after March 2, 2001 have a modified gas pedal. Mine says built March 03/01.

Thanks for posting the pics. I have decided I want to get a sandstone Santa Fe LX and add a wood package. Is ocher beige the same as the color sandstone in the U.S? It looks very similar. Thanks!

I called the dealer today to ask about this recall notice. I was advised that this recall is to fix a possible problem with the adhesive for the front bumper. They will take off the front bumper cover and reinstall it using a different adhesive. According to the dealer this is nothing major and can be done the next time I bring the SF in for service. They did say it would take 1/2 day to do this repair. Has anyone else received this notice?

Does any one know of any dealer around San Francisco bay area who will sell S.F. at least at MSRP price? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I actually called the dealer and asked them this same question recently. It's an H3 bulb. I'm sure you've already found out by now, but incase anyone else was interested to know I posted the answer.

has anyone had a GOOD experience with this vendor? Is there ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE that has Santa Fe aftermarket stuff???
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
I have the Santa Fe that have nearly all HDK aftermarket stuffs. I really like the HDK service and quality. The following items are installed in my car which I ordered from HDK.
    1. Fender Flares
    2. Sport Roof Rack
    3. Front Chrome Bumper Guard
    4. Chrome Side Steps
    5. Rear Bumper Guard
    6. A/V Stereo System
    7. 8 Discs Audio/Video Changer
    8. Chrome Pedal Cover
    9. 4 Doors VentVisor
    10. Blue Illuminated Headlight Bulb
    11. Matching Touch-Up Paint
    12. OEM Air Filters and OEM Oil Filters
    13. White Sport Face Gauge
    14. Strut Bar

HDKautosport.com is working very hard to provided us with the Santa Fe products. Most of the products delivery from Korea, they have to modified into to fit the US version correctly. They have tried their best and still continue to effort with these hard working project. I really like HDK and I have no problem with the order so far.

Gsogymrat asked if Ocher Beige is the same as Sandstone. Yes, they are the same! In fact, all US colors are also available in Europe and Canada, but with different names:

    US-NAME = EUROPEAN/CANADIAN NAME
    Nordic White = ??? White
    Black Obisidian = Ebony Black
    Pewter = Smart Silver
    Merlot = Cerise Red
    Pine Green = Pine Green
    Crystal Blue = Breezy Blue
    Sandstone = Ocher Beige
    (not available) = Copper Orange

I suggest we start using the abbreviation SaFe instead of SF from now on (considering the top-results of the SaFe crashtest)!
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
    Color:
Yes! I have listed those data before! Yes! Most of colors was called different in Europe/Korea compare to US.

    SaFe:
Yes! We Should have use SaFe instead SF because SF can be stand for San Francisco, etc..."SaFe is better and nicer too because is sound like "safe". As we all know this is a safe car....
  • tulpenhamtulpenham Member Posts: 32
    That's a quick response, Hung!
Yes, my main reason for suggesting SaFe is not only because it sounds like 'safe' but it IS safe!

hey Hung..are you able to show us the photos of this car you have customized with all the HDK parts? Would love to see it. HDK pics on website are'nt the best and can anyone tell me what the heck that rod on the bumper of some of the pics are? Looks like an antenna of some sort. I got the bug shield from Hyundai , which really is made by an after market company according to literature in pkg. Also got front and rear mud guards. Looking at stereo upgrade next.
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
Actually I really want to show the picture but I hated to run back and forth to develop the film. I just spend 14 hours in 4 days looking for a good type of digital camera. I have just purchased at 12:15am Pacific Time at www.centore.com with the best price on the internet. In case anyone need to buy digital camera visit www.centore.com. I bought the Olympus C-2040 plus some accessories too. I can't wait to get my digital camera. Once I have digital camera then I will post everything about my car upgrade in my website. I will give a link once the project is done.

Anyway, most of these type of front bumper guard carried the antenna/stick for easy to view on the front. Most likely the people in Asia would use it but in the US "no". It comes with it but you don't have to attach with the bumper guard. Most likely it is easy to steal and look ugly. I don't even put that on the bumper guard at all.

Yes! I do have the hood deflector and front/rear mud guards too. I ordered it from www.tischerhyundai.com. I also ordered the rear deflector but there was no paper template for me to install this rear deflector. I will carefully inspect and measure to install this rear deflector on this weekend.

Congratulation to your final purchase of your Olympus C-2040 digital camera!

My is the Kodak DC215, I bought it 1 years ago from Futureshop at CDN$399. but its don't come with the memory card reader (now come with at the same price).

Believe it or not, after u fimiliar with your digit camera, your traditional SL reflection camera might go to the "history museum", it is so convenient to have a digital camera, take picture whenever you like, u can spy others, u can even take nuke pictures of yourself or your wife or your girlfriend w/o showing others.

The most important at all, is saving time & money without the need to develop your pictures, plus without the need to scan the picture into your computer.

The faster u buy it the more $$$ u can save!

I think I already have all the money back in the last 12 months, because my business need to take a lot of pictures, each year I spent few hundred dollars to buy films & develop those pictures.

Enjoy your digital Camera & post us lot of your SaFe pictures.

    Thanks tulpenham.

A couple of differences for the Canadian names

    US-NAME = CANADIAN NAME

    Nordic White = Noble White

    Pewter = Arctic Silver

But as you stated the colo(u)rs are the same. Except, strangely, that the Copper Orange is not available in the USA. It was my first colour preference (the ocher beige I have was my second), but with a vehicle in short supply one can't be too picky with the colour (or color) choice.

For those curious as to the meaning of ocher

    look here: http://www.bartleby.com/65/oc/ocher.html

I guess I was lucky and got a good deal! The list price was $206.95 (cdn). I am quite happy with the sales and service at Acacia Motors. They are one of five Hyundai dealers we have in the Ottawa/Hull/Rockland area.

Looking forward to seeing the pics. I use all Nikon equipment myself. Been professional photographer for past 15 yrs. and they make great gear. Right now for fun shots I am using the Cool Pix 800 and have 2 D1-X (version "H") on order. They havent released the camera yet, but should be within the next 5-6 weeks or so they say. Heavty price tag too, $5,500 but worth it !! Now back to the SFe's, went and saw a nice JVC Camelon CD player yesturday and will be reviewing some Alpine's soon. I also checked on fog light kit at dealer here and $300.00 was the price tag. Seems like tischerhyundai is a wee bit cheaper in price. I wonder if there are any aftermarket brands that will fit the opening. We have a high end auto store here that I think might be able to help me out, so I will post info if anyone is interested. Later fellow SF'ers!!
OHH...forgot to mention this..but I see alot of "safety" comments on here about the SFe's. When I was shopping for mine, the salesman told me a story..A cop came in to buy a Sonata, saw the SFe's and said..what is that?? He said he worked a really bad wreck a few days earlier, and according to him, the driver would have probably been killed if it werent for the design of the SFe's. Said he has seen alot of bad wrecks, and this vehicle took the brunt of the accident. So insted of buying the Sonata, he bought the SFe. Just a testimonial I had heard.

Just got an email from tischner hyundai and here is the reply. I was asking about the Hyndai dash kit, how many pieces etc..

Hi Wales, The wood dash kit comes in 3 pieces according to hyundai, I have not yet seen the kit, I have alot of inquires, but right now, its on technical backorder
from hyundai, there having problems with the finish It will be weeks before its available..... but thank you for asking, if there is anything else you want just order away
and I'll ship it to you.......... or if you have any more questions, just let me know...

So ...looks like I will be holding off on this item until the fixed one comes in. Hope all of you who have them already installed dont have any problems, cause once they are glued down..they stay down. EWWWWW....hate to see the kit fall apart on a nice car..would make me sick !
  • billtungbilltung Member Posts: 255
The dash kit is actually the complete plastic piece replacement for the Black color dash. U don't have to glue it, U replace the old one & screw it down.
It pretty nice when I look & touch it in dealership. Bit if there is problem with the finish, then I won't consider until they solve the problem.
  • wales1wales1 Member Posts: 90
Thanks for info billtung..I didnt know if the kit was a glue down type like the aftermarket ones. I did see one user here who had a Hyundai kit installed and they were in Canada, but it showed the instrument panel with the trim around it too. That had to be glued down from the pic I saw. Maybe in Canada they have a different kit? The accessory brochure I have shows only the center console part covered and the coloring of it looks kinda orange, but one dealership told me its a dark burlwood color. Boy...sure would like to see one in person installed.

    Wood Dash:
I saw a dealer wood dash was so fine that they even have the side door too. I only saw this from the internet but have requested for information. So for this is the information I have:
Stephen bought it at Toronto Canada-Kingcross Hyundai! "I went out to ask for more information"!

    My Decision Digital Camera:
I was stuck to decided to buy the digital camera in the past because I did not know if I should buy the digital camera or a digital camcorder with the still camera. Since I don't make any movie so go on and investigate on the digital camera. Yes! It will save lots of money compare to the kind you have to develop all the time plus driving back and forth too. I hated it. So decided to get the digital camera with the smartmedia mem-card. My HP-photosmart printer can read this type of mem-card...I just can't wait until the camera arrive 'cause I'm too excited..

    To Bill Tung:
I forgot to talk to you about the rhyme name on the other board but here it is. China/Vietnam/Korea was used to be belong to same group of people in the ancient time. Therefore, we celebrated the New Year on the same day! We have the same calender. It was just about 200 years ago Vietnam changed the character writing into the Latin writing similar to French and Spanish. Therefore, Vietnam was the only ASIA country that have the latin writing now. Most of the first-name from Vietnam was taken by the lastname of Famous Chinese heros and heroins. My firstname is actuall "HUNG" which it is the same spell as my older brother but the sound it different and have different meaning. My older brother name "HUNG"="Hero", my name "Hung"="Like River of Love-more like describe as the King"! All of the writing in Vietnam can be written into Chinese character too. 'Just to let you know a little bit about the Vietnam History'

So far I have driven most of the SUB's in it's class. I love (almost) everything about the manta be!! I will be using the SC on alot of camping trips this summer. This means I will be loading it down a bit with gear and traveling a few hundred miles going up and down hills. My wife and I drove the GAS V6 WAD three separate times and decided it had marginal power... not to mention the high rams. To weight it down and take it up hills may be asking too much. Has anyone had any experience with taking it up hills and/or weighting it down? Also I have heard a few bad points about gas mileage not meeting up to expectations which is one of the reasons I am considering a smaller SUV...any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  • katie21katie21 Member Posts: 1
There have been alot of writer that have said they are getting great gas mileage in their SaFe. I am not getting any better than 19 miles to the gallon. Please let me know what others out there think is great mileage. I took my suv in to have it check and they said nothing is wrong. If everyone is getting better mileage, then I am taking it back in and talking with my dealer. Thanks in advance.
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
    Scottf2:
If you add more weight and tow more stuffs then off-course the gas mileage will drop or say worse. I can not really answer your question but my car have so many products that weight a lots. Front bumper guard, side steps, sport roof rack. rear bumper guard, and more. I lived in San Francisco and most of the time drive in the car with 4 people and mostly 5 people on the weekend. There is lot of deep hills here in San Francisco but I drove my SaFe just as "NORMAL" as there was nobody in the car. Actually the car was even get smoother and better ride but gas mileage drop...

FWD can toll more have better gas mileage: While AWD can toll a just little less then FWD but gas mileage was a little hurt. So if you have FWD then gas mileage is good but AWD just a little bad. It is all depend on how you drive the car too. If you drive the SaFe on freeway you definitely get excellent gas mileage but in the city traffic and hill like me here in San Francisco forget it. So many other mid-size and larger SUV have complaint about there SUV gas mileage here in San Francisco. I get 17 on city but highway I get 24-1/2. While my father-in-law Isuzu Rodeo get 13-15 in city and 20 on freeway.

Does any one know of any dealer around San Francisco bay area who will sell S.F. at least at MSRP price?

I suggest that you phone Robert Hammer or you could go to www.hammerauto.com. I used him back in January and he was able to locate a LX model ABS + Traction in Merlot in less then a week at MSRP. I live in San Jose. He is located in Sunnyvale. Good Luck. Rich

I lived in San Francisco and I bought the car at Richmond-Doten Hyundai sales by Randy Hall. I paid for my 'top of the line SaFe model' at $24890 out the door. Just imagine I have higher tax rate here in San Francisco too. You can visit DotenHyundai and ask to see if they have any available.

The wood grain dash kit is exactly the one I saw in the dealership. He get a good deal for about CDN$165., I don't buy it because it is not completed(I want complete set with the arm rest piece on the doors.)

I've already ordered the hood deflector from the dealer, they will call me when it arrived (Paid 15% off regular price).

I live in a house 1000 feet above sea level!
I delivery flowers everyday to lot of British Columbia north-shore houses built on the north shore mountains, those are 1 to 2 thousand feet above sea level, the SaFe is working effortless even on slope about 45 degree. I used to drive my GMC safari because the 4.3L is the most powerful mini van when I bought, but the SaFe handle much better especially on snowly days & wet days here in BC, canada.

Trust me! The Santa Fe ABS & Traction Control have save my life 2 times as I posted before.

Try to buy one with ABS & Traction Control if possible.

Well everybody, I hit the 10,000 mark and the only problem so far is the cd player would stop playing after 2 hours of constant use. Other than that everything is perfect. No problems with the engine/trans/anyTHING!!!

I guess we need to expect EPA gas mileage to be a bit conservative...so the milage may not be quite as good as expected. I think the power from a stopping point may be a bit weak...but once you get going it's pretty good. From what some have said they are pretty satisfied with overall power even when it's weighted down. I'm sure you may have to put up with occasional down-shifts with high RPM's but can live with it. Thanks for your input anyone on power and gas mileage!!
  • keithatworkkeithatwork Member Posts: 28
what is the deal.... i have seen a couple of people with the cd player problem..

we took ours in after it quit working the first time and they did 'something' to it and it was working again for about a week.. then it stopped again.

spits out all the cd's you can put in it after about 1-2 minutes with an Er3 code on the display.

the dealer told us they would install a "floater" radio, send my radio out to get fixed.. when it came back, they would take the floater radio out and put the "fixed" one back in...

there isn't 3000 miles on the car... pull out the broken radio and give me a new one... what's the problem.?

if i bought a radio at best buy and it didnt work... i would bring it back and get a new one... not have to wait for it to be sent out to be repaired...

maybe i just pull this obviously problematic radio out of the car and put something more reliable in....

anyone have any thoughts on this? can i demand a new radio? i just installed my wood dash and the last thing i want is someone wrenching on the car and messing up my dash.... sure, they'll be resposible for it but i dont need the stress.

    later,
    keith

I have a wood dash installed on my lx fwd and I just pulled the radio out to install a 6 disc cd changer. The wood dash is not affected at all. I have not had any problems with my cd player and I use it a lot. The cd changer is a blapunkt if you are intersted.
  • lrchomelrchome Member Posts: 130
I have a fwd lx and I have 5500 miles on it, and I just completed a 2000 mile round trip to Bluefield Wva. which is the highest city east of Denver. The Santa Fe had lots of power in the mountains. If I kept it in shiftronic it stayed in fourth gear, but slowed down very slightly on the eteeper grades, but remained in cruise control. If I used the auto transmission it down shifted to remain in cruise control amd keep the speed up. I average almost 21 miles to the gallon in suburban driving, and averaged a little over 26 miles to the gallon on the 2000 mile trip.

Called local dealer here, can install Hyundai factory dash kit, which is 3 pieces accroding to them, for 30.00, plus the kit, which is $201.00. This is US currency. Might be able to talk them down alittle. But after hearing they have had problems with finish, I am gonna wait or look at the aftermarket ones. Ohh which one to get..hmmmm.. Flip a coin? BTW..Hung..I read where some people are beginning to doubt you and your SFe's accessories..BOY..if you get the pics..they will eat their words..or...will they??

I have saw Stephen SaFe in the website and his SaFe have the best wood dash under Jeff's Website. Therefore, I have ask Jeff to send me the information where to purchase this fully set of wooddash. Ken was the owner of this dealer! Ken is not there today but I will contact him tomorrow! Anyway, the sale guys I just talk to; told me that the wood dash kit was about 30 pieces. Really shock me! 30 pieces...But he is not sure! I will confirm with Ken about the number of pieces, price, and color. This wood dash kit does cover the whole dash without a missing piece/gap.

I have AWD GLS 5000+ mi and get about 20-21 all around driving. have never gotten 23 or 24 but have not tried on Interstate but with 70 mph speeds not really likely I'm afraid. My problem is the tank is only 17 gallons so it needs refills too often at 20 mi per gal.

I have a LX-AWD V6 (built 11-00) with 8000 miles and I am constantly carrying a lot of extra weight around (job related) and I have the Draw-Tite (heavy) hitch installed.

I am now seeing an increase in my M.P.G. with the somewhat warmer weather up here.

My last tankfull was 25.34 M.P.G. almost all highway, with a few traffic jams around Milwaukee. My average with mixed driving lately is about 22.5 M.P.G.

I am very careful to make sure my tires are inflated to (or a bit above) max. rec. pressure.

The only defects I have encountered are:

    1. Annoying squeak /chirp from inside the auto-dimming mirror. Sounds like it's coming from behind the dash, due to the windshield redirecting the sound.

    2. Unpredictable fuel-fill amount on anything but lowest flow setting at pump (and sometimes even then).

    3. And this is the weird one: I noticed my SF has a 1/2" lean to the drivers side. Yes I'm checking on a level surface, all tires equally inflated, all cargo load equally distributed. It's still there after tire rotation. It's not a problem really, and I will eventually speak to the dealer about it, its just one of those little things I notice. Oh BTW, I do not weigh over 180 lbs. for those who might suggest an alternative cause....

On the plus side is everything else. Very good MPG, smooth running engine with lots of power at higher RPM range, once moving. The AWD system has been flawless this winter in the snow, and impressive in the deep mud where I really shouldn't have been....

I have just changed out the stock AM/FM/CD for a better Kenwood KDC-6015, and learned the hard way that there is a hidden AM Broadcast Band signal amplifier buried somewhere further back, that must be powered if you want any signals on AM.

I am glad to see adamjrae still hanging in there, I was wondering how he was doing with his SF. I am rapidly catching up to him in miles, due to a LOOONGG commute every day.

Hope everybody else's is doing well also.

Thanks hmshoodfan, for updating the data on the colors from my post #1829.

Furthermore, it's very nice to see so many of you already using the SaFe abbreviation. I'm getting to like it more and more...

But let me tell you what has happened today. I have received an e-mail from the Dutch Hyundai importer saying that my SaFe (which I ordered last December 27!) does not arrive in The Netherlands before July!!! After that it will take another 3 to 4 weeks before the car is sent to the dealer which means I will receive my SaFe in August when I'm lucky!!! That's a leadtime of about 8 months and all I can do is sit and wait (and visit the SaFe-websites of course)!

Can you imagine that in the back of my mind I'm beginning to think about cancelling the whole order and looking for another car...

I wonder if there's something I could do? Any suggestions?
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
Not sure how the Netherland/Dutch dealers are working: Have you try to contact different dealers? 8 months of waiting is really ridiculous and rather wait for next year model....Simply look at the map I saw Netherland was very close to Germany:

If I were you I would have cancelled the order awhile ago and then contact the dealers in Germany and take a train or some kind of transportations on the weekend and then pickup the car in Germany. I am sure there should be plenty of SaFe in Germany. I am not sure about price and warranty but definitely call and contact them for buying into your Netherland.

    Hello Hung,

I knew you would be the first to respond to my posting! Thanks for your reaction.

You suggest to contact other dealers or to look in another country. The first option does not work because other dealers also have to order their cars at Hyundai Holland and that means the same leadtime. The second option is possible, but not worth wile because I would have to pay a high tax to import the car from abroad. Furthermore, I am leasing the car and the lease company does not do any business with dealers outside Holland.

Thanks anyway for your help, after reading a lot of postings I am feeling somewhat better and will probably put up with the waiting. The more fun it will be when my SaFe finally arrives.
  • wales1wales1 Member Posts: 90
WHAT??? that wood dash kit on the website can not have 30 pieces. It is one solid piece on center console, maybe two at best if you count the ash try piece and then the instrument panel. 30 pieces must be from another pit. Look at the door panel, there are no pieces on it. Look at the shifter, no pieces there either. Are we all looking at the same photos?
  • wales1wales1 Member Posts: 90
Hung...saw your pics..not to bad..but I was wondering with all that extra weight, the grill, the roof rack, rear bumper guard, nerf bars..etc..does'nt that add extra weight to the vehicle, making it harder on gas milage? Plus..I I think you said you live in San Fran... lots of hills there but I think that set-up would be great for Africa or some really rough terrain, but it looks like you live in a city, and I know city life is rough..but !!!
Also, seems like the more you put on or in the vehicle..the more appealing it is to theives. Not that they wanna keep it ..but take it for a joy ride. Hope that doesnt happen to you.
Also...I LIKE the bug deflector, I think "ladychaos" said it was a leather bra..but its the plastic bug shield and its nice. I have a Black SFe and will be posting pics soon of my ride incase anyone cares to see it.

I'm hoping to get a Hyundai Elantra GT when they are released. I wonder if anyone has experience with the Hyundai Service Centers in the Puget Sound (WA) area? A long warranty is great only as long as they treat you properly. I'll be posting this question on all Hyundai model boards, so thanks for bearing with me!

not trying to hate on you or anything man but....
i think thats a bit of overkill there. if you like it, more power to ya... but whew! it's bordering on tacky. sorry, just had to say my piece...

i think you could have improved the trucks looks dramatically with rims instead of some of the other mods.

WOOD DASH? - that 3 piece "wood" dash everyone is hollaring about... it loks like plastic. is it plastic... and if it is... why spend $200+ on plastic?

i ordered my kit from wooddashfactory.com. it came with 26 pieces and so what if there is a gap by the vents? the wood is BEAUTIFUL! that epoxy coating gives it a depth i havent seen in a wood kit and the burlwood catches the light. no mistaking it for plastic at all!

it is going in this weekend so look for pics on monday.

hung... rims. get some rims. :)

Check out Keithatwork's tacky comments! What's up with that? Ripping on Hung's SaFe? To each his own, and you know he's the only one that has all these mods to it. It looks cool and differnt. And, if you've never seen a Santa Fe before, then when you see Hung drive by in his vehicle with all those mods, I bet he gets lots of stares and glances, etc...saying.. "what was that!" It is differnt, unique, it's cool, I think.

As for tacky Keith, what's tacky is you buying an expensive wood trim and leaving that dumb "missing gap" on your console/dash unit. LOL LOL That looks fake and plastic. Besides, that wood trim you're buying....? Doens;t cover the "TOP" portion over the two (2) vents oabove the stereo...go look. That "hump" that slopes down...? toward the window, well Hyundai Accessories has one already that covers that area...so anyone who sees your wood dash trim, will see it's plastic and they'll always ask you... "Oh, look, you're missing a piece here, what's that about? or "Hey, your wood dash trim you put on here is cheap, look, it's falling apart already, this missing piece...where did it go?" LOL LOL LOL

    Hooray for Hung's pics! :-)
