rosenthal has been pretty good on the sales side, but i wouldn't touch them for service, unless it's warrantee work. my local nissan shop does just fine, thank you. there is a pretty decent, if that's possible, older salesguy at rosenthal named paul chapman. he sold me my '98 qx4. he is pleasant and will treat you with some respect if you know what the real numbers are on a vehicle before you go in. there must be at least 20 qx4's on the lot right now.
just because edmunds isn't listing an incentive, doesn't mean there aren't any. for example... there's $10K on left-over q45's right now.
good luck,

Can anyone tell me a honest city driving MPG for a 2WD (2X4), on 2001 model?
Thank you.
I own a 2001 PF LE (Auto 4wd), and I recently owned a 2000 PF LE (part-time 4wd). Both gave me very similar mileage numbers, although the 240 hp in my 2001 makes it much easier to tolerate the fuel consumption!
The worst fuel economy I ever got was 13 mpg (dead of winter, 4wd engaged all the time, all in-city with a healthy dose of daily rush hour driving). The best is around 20 mpg (summer, highway, few hills, 2wd, 10,000 miles on engine). Average is around 16 mpg.
I found that my economy continued to climb as the mileage went past 10,000 - 12,000 miles. Cold weather and winter gasoline formulations can really reduce economy (as well as how you drive, of course). Also, using less than 91 octane fuel in the 2001 PF and QX4 reduces economy (as well as being bad for the engine in the long run). Hope this helps.
I went Sunday at Infiniti dealer, and I was seriously consider to buy an 2001 4X2 (2WD), but they can't give me the MPG city driving for an 4X2, only 4X4 (witch is 15MPG).
I am a South California resident, is no winter here, but and I'm enjoyng LA havy traffic daily. I will spend 95% of driving in traffic, and usualy it take me around 35-40 min. for 7.5 miles! I love this city!
May be QX4 is not the right choice for me? I like it, the body, inside is great, feels roomy, excelent engine, perfect for me! ...But the MPG...
Can anyone tell me honest MPG city drivind on 2001 4X2 (2WD) QX4?
if that's what you want to hear....
however, the truth is that a 4X4 with an "on demand" feature isn't going to be that worse than a 4X2. if a couple of mpg's is going to make a difference in your decision, then a $35K sport-ute might not be the choice for you.
the poster above who claims 20mpg is way over on the far outisde of the range. my '98 has gotten just under 13mpg over it's entire life (25K miles). my highest mpg EVER was 17. that was on a no A/C, roofrack off, no hills, no speeding, road trip. if i get 15 for a tankful, i look at it like as a triumph. and yes, your SoCal reformulated/oxygenated fuel will get poorer mileage than what people in cleaner climates get.
honestly, if you want a qx4 or a pf get one. if the cost of feeding premium fuel into it is going to be too much to take then look at a cr-v, forester, or rav4. and, if you don't need an suv don't get one! you'll love your passenger car every time you fill up and figure the mileage at 20 or 25 mpg.
i'm just trying to provide a reality check here.

Did he have the keys in his pocket? I've had times when bending over with the keys in my pocket that coins have pushed the lock button on the remote and locked up the doors.

as for the break-in mileage increase, i've definitely noticed that as well. i'm just over 12 000 miles and i'm starting to zero in on the high end of interstate driving (21 mpg) and city driving (17 mpg).
I drove several SUV before making my decision including JGC(poor safety record-I currently own a '95 JGC), 4Runner(drives like a truck and fishtails too much), RX300/Highlander(Camry with cargo space).
i havn't calculated what the 01 QX4 gets yet.
as for the other cars in the house
95max GXE about 10L/100km
same for a 96accord(non vtec) but driven hard.
it all depends on driving style. from the figures i provided, it shows a 4cyl accord consumes as much as a 3LV6 max.

even $175 sounds heavy to me. for $395, you better get a full detail job and a massage. screw the dealer for trying to rip off their customers. i'd love to see one of the jerks justify $395 for a filter and lube job. with maybe 1.0 or 1.5 hrs of service, plus the $30 for the rental car, what a total rip.
i have never used the dealer for the easy maintenance items. just warranty work and one of the oil changes every year.
my opinion.

Change oil and filter.
Lube driveshaft.
Inspect brakes, tires, suspension, fluid levels, steering gear, boots, exhaust, bearing grease, vacuum hoses.
Now I also am in favor of extra maintenance, but if the above list is all the dealer is going to actually do, then one hour's labor will cover it all. What's that today? - about $75 max.
War story ahead... I recently saw a sheet at a local dealer advertising their "tune-up" special for $225. It listed about 20 items they would do, but each had the words "if required" after it. It was written for a '60s car with carburator, idle, points, and fuel mixture adjustments. None of that applies to a car built in the last fifteen years. All the other items were "inspect" this and that (including the windshield washer fluid!). And "additional parts needed" were extra of course. Turns out all you got was new spark plugs. And you wonder why it's a rare, rare instanace thay my vehicles see the inside of a dealer service bay.

i own the qx4 and i love it. at the time of my purchase, the pathfinder only had manual 4wd shifting, not the auto switch that's found on the newer models. that was the biggest seller of the qx4 for me, which now makes the difference a little less, since the pathfinder now has the same auto 4wd mechanism. besides that though, i felt like the qx4 was smoother and definitely more luxurious, but these are totally "feel" items. i suggest you take a ride in both, right after one another, and do it a couple times. even ask the dealer for a one nighter, i took each vehicle home for a nite to get an extended experience.

you lose performace
more fuel consumption
some say you can even blow a piston
i've used regular fuel on the same engine type (VQ) for 6 years now. and 120k miles and running solid. doing the same on my 01 QX4.

you are going to out of warranty when there is more than a year to go on the lease. used vehicle leases are more common (and make more sense) in cases where there are low miles and/or a short duration lease.
there are some pretty expensive things to break on a qx4. it would be a shame to have a tranny or 4wd system go, just when your lease is finishing.
you mention the lease payment. what is the acquisition cost and residual value? monthly payments don't really mean much, if the price is too high.
watch for termination/disposition fees and high addtn'l mile rate!

qx4: Is the compression ratio in the older VQ motor the same? Just because the motors are of the same family, that doesn't mean that they have the same requirements. I don't know what the fuel requirements for the Max's VQ motor is but I think Nissan has caused some confusion for the QX4/Pathy because there were two engines within the same model year (VG33E and VQ35DE).
i just can't see fixing a car that's not yours.
and the resid of $12.1 is probably too low. i wonder how that is determined... by the dealer or the lender. probably a good source of income for the dealer if he can set it artificially low.
how about this.... buy the car outright for $22.7 or something less and finance it for 5 yrs. easy to do on used luxury vehicles. payment would be in the $450 to $475 range for 60 months. at least you could get rid of it whenever you wanted and would probably not be upside down after maybe the first six to twelve months. then you may/could be building equity.
just to let you know... i have a leased '98 for 48 months/12K yr. got it in late summer of '98. lease payment is south of $350/month.
just a thought...

Your insight has been very helpful. Purchasing the '98 QX4 would make more sense than leasing a 3 yr old vehicle with limited warranty left. I think the price of $22.7K is pretty good, especially with the condition of this one, but Infiniti of Orlando decided to do the ol bait and switch. I have of course, decided to leave their deal on the table and continue my search. Thanks for the help!
i never had problems with the regular gas, but a relative of mine suffered noticable performace drop and engine didn't sound good at all. (i'm assuming knocking..) dealer told them to use premium as required by engine specs and its been running fine (it was a 98 maxima).
on the other hand, maybe i'm lucky but no problems with mine.
i do realize that the engine is designed for that minimum ocatane rating (92 or 90+). and idealy it should get what it wants.
I'm about to become a owner of a brand new 2001 QX4 4x4. My dealer had some problem locating one with all my specifications but it's at the dealer now and I'll be picking it up this week. In my excitement to get behind the driver's seat, I might forget to go through a proper inspection so I thought I would ask you all for any advice in things to check/ask when I'm picking up vehicle? Thanks in advance for any input.
This checklist is specific to the Odyssey, but a lot of it can be used when you pick up the Lexus. I'm sure the owner's here can point out some specific things to look for with your new rig.
