Tonychyrs, from what I read the QX4 has side airbags that go from the side of the seat and up during a collision protecting both the head and chest. Look at your own IIHS site for the explanation. Either way the RX is lacking.

My wife loves her New 2001 QX4 2wd with sunroof premium package and rear wind deflector. We leased for 36 months 15k/year, Total $1895 down includes Doc fees tags (tags in arizona are 2.5% of MSRP $588 ouch), first month $462.20 payment plus 7.1% tax out the door price per month is $495. The rest of the total down was to line the dealers pocket.

Cap cost was $32799.29. with a money factor of .001875 (interest rate of 4.5%). Pretty damn good deal as stands but gets better. I had 3 more lease payments (on a 36 month lease) of $395 on a 98 2wd 4runner SR5 32000 miles, with a residule of $18433. Infiniti bought the 4runner from my leasing company for $19618. I was to pay at the end of the lease a disposition fee of $350 to turn the 4runner back in and new tires $450.00.

In closing deals can be had, You should be looking to pay at the very least $500 under true invoice.

I have a 01 QX4 with Bridge stone tires. Have had a very choppy ride as compared to the 98 QX4 I had prior. The dealer changed the original Michelins tires to the Bridge stones saying that was the problem. Helped very little. The vehicle now has 7500 miles on it and is somewhat better, or I am getting used to it. Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix.. new shocks, springs , etc. The dealer has given up saying some of his new stock have the problem, others don't. He is sincere in saying Infinity has no clue and will not look into problem until many people complain. Any others out there with the same problem?

Hello! New poster in the market for a 2001 QX4 with Premium Pkg. A couple questions that I would love assistance on. First: Is sunroof an option or is it part of the standard or Premium Package? Infinite website lists sunroof as an option with a price of $950.00. Dealer claims it is not something I can delete. Which is correct? First trip to dealer, test drove car, talked a bit to sales person. Dealer quoted price of $36,965. Think I can do better than that. Been doing research and have many different invoice prices to choose from. Anyone have recent experience as to what I can expect to offer and be successful? Seems as if the economic lowdown should be beneficial to us buyers. Is the QX4 immune? Would like to take advantage of the 3.9% financing as well, wonder if I can expect to get a fair deal in addition to this rate. What is the best way to present your offer to the sales person? I am a novice at negotiations and don't want to come across as such. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
    mzbiv,
The sunroof is a stand-alone option. But the dealer has probably ordered all his units with sunroofs and so wants to convince you that you need one (or must get one). But also, in reality a QX4 without a sunroof is a very rare one indeed.

About price, have you considered going to Canada to get a QX4 (numerous posts above)? A QX4 with AWD, sunroof, Premium pkg, and Sport pkg will sell for about $30,800. Lots of people have done this. You won't get the 3.9%, but you will obviously save thousands.

Sunroof is an option on QX4, but it's hard to find one without Sunroof.
For pricing, see thread 484 for references. I am trying to get one and having hard time matching that price.

I am down in GA so going to Canada is not an option for me.
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
I won't push the subject, but you wouldn't be the first person from Georgia to go to Canada to buy - people from Atlanta already have. A $200 plane ticket and two days to drive home (950 miles) to save $4000 - $5000. They thought was worth it. Or just stay home and have it delivered for about $1000.

Can anyone give an objective comparison of the leather seat quality on the PF LE versus the QX4?
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
    montanabill1,
I'm spending the evening at the Minneapolis auto show. Every model sold will be on the showfloor. I'll do a side-by-side leather comparison. Anything else anybody wants me to look at?

I have a PF and a friend has the QX4. Now, my leather is gray, hers is tan, but hers does look like a better quality leather. Her carpeting also looks plusher. I still wouldn't pay the extra $$ because I'm cheap ;)

I test drove a P/F LE last week and liked the ride and power.

The following features were NOT on the P/F and I wondered if the QX4 had them:

    1) Day time running lights
    2) Auto door locks
    3) electroluminescent(?sp) auto mirror
    4) easy-to-fold rear seats.

any 2 or 3 of the above (in addition to the 17" wheels) may be enough for me to drive 25 miles to the QX4 dealer (vs. 4mi. to nissan.)

    Thanks!

    Phantom5,

in re: "In closing deals can be had, You should be looking to pay at the very least $500
    under true invoice. "

How does one even begin to offer LESS than invoice on a vehicle? Is there incentives that are not being identified (on this web site) that the dealers are getting? It makes no sense at all for a dealer to lose $$$ on a vehicle. It would be better for them to just not stock any at all!

Are you serious in counter offering UNDER true invoice? So, if I offered INVOICE, you think they would take it??? WOW!

Did the dealer that you closed with on your lease actually offer that price, or did you have to really fight for it?

(We are also replacing a 4runner with 70K miles. But, we own it.. no lease)

I have an '01 PF LE and I have to clarify:

    1) Day time running lights
    - NOT on the PF

    2) Auto door locks
    - PF has auto door locks, not sure why you
were not able to see these

    3) electroluminescent(?sp) auto mirror
    - not on the PF

    4) easy-to-fold rear seats.
    - PF has easy to fold rear seats, the levers
are on each side of the rear seats.
  • tonychrystonychrys Member Posts: 1,310
    "4) easy-to-fold rear seats.
    - PF has easy to fold rear seats, the levers
are on each side of the rear seats"

I think what was meant was rear seats where you don't have to remove and stow the headrests before folding them. Even crappy GMC Jimmys can do this. The one thing I didn't like about my PF and I still can't believe Nissan hasn't figured this out yet.
  • mhplummermhplummer Member Posts: 10
    Thanks for clarifications,

what I meant to ask was

    1) Do QX4 doors automatically lock after a certain speed is attained. I like this feature in my Jeep for child safety.

    2) Must one remove & stow the rear seat head rests prior to folding (as in the P/F) or do they fold nicely out of the way as in the new Jeeps, RX300. I have to pull the rear headrests in my '97 jeep and it's a pain.

    3) Does the rear view mirror auto-dim on the QX4?

    4) Are day-time running lights avail on QX4? (I know that auto lights & Xenons are but also like DTRLs)

Frankly, I am trying to decide whether I should deal with my local Nissan dealer 5 minutes away or drive 45 minutes to Infiniti.

Thanks for your input. This site has saved me a ton of time....

Checking on the Canada deal. Looks like 30730 after Canada conversion at 1.54 on the dollar--for 4wd prem and sports pkg/sunroof--versus 35,000 best price so far in St. Louis area. The only other cost would be less than 1000 to have it transported or my expenses of flying and driving home from Tornoto. Mssg. #330 has lots of info about this.
Loaded Pathfinder LE is around 28000 or little less.

Those prices both include 100.00 Canada AC charge and 2.5% duty.

Bigboater like every car deal you make you must lock the doors take off the gloves its "GO TIME"!! To answer your question very simply yes i made an offer at $500 under invoice. AT the time i was'nt sure if i wanted the luxury of the QX4 or the size of a Yukon. I still had 3 lease payments left on my 98 (2wd) 4runner SR5 at $395/month with a residule of $18433 and it had 32000 miles.

I was looking for the best deal possible so I e-mailed all of the GMC dealers in the Phoenix area and the Infiniti dealers (there are 3 infiniti dealers in phoenix, which are owned by the same person). The response i received from the GMC dealers were $1500 down and $595 plus tax for 36 months with a residule value of %57 and that was without buying out the 4runner. I wanted to be around $500/month so the Yukon was out. After reading this board I found out what people were buying their QX4s, and that was $100 to $1000 under invoice. The reason infiniti is selling under invoice is because the 01 QX4 is almost a year old now so theyre offering %3.9 financing and loyalty rebates if you or anyone in your family has owned a infiniti.

I initially offered $1200 total down and $485/month for 36 months and the buyout of my 4runner. If I had kept the 4runner it would of cost me the three lease payments $1200 a $350 disposition fee to return the 4runner and $450 for new tires. For a total of $2000 to complete the lease and then another at least $1200 inception fees to lease another SUV. A Grand total of $3200. It was to my benefit to have a dealership buyout my lease. The first infiniti dealer laughed hard and kicked me out. The second dealership did'nt laugh but also kicked me out. The third dealership had the QX4 that i wanted in stock and started at $2500 down $535/month for 48 months. This time i walked two days later the dealer called and said his boss wanted to look at the 4runner and if he liked it we could get down to where i wanted to be. This time they offered to buyout the 4runner with $2300 and $510/month for 42 months i counterd with $1895 down and $495 including tax for 36 months. Two hours later and one giant headache i drove home with my QX4. BIGBOATER sorry for the long [non-permissible content removed] explaination but it took alot of time and energy to get this deal done just wanted you to know. Glad i only have to this every three years

In Charlotte, NC, I got my wife a 2001 QX4 for $520/mo for 48 mos. with 15,000 miles per year and with all options (including limited slip and heated seats), absolutely $0 down, no fees, etc., dealer made first month payment and took back our '99 QX4 with 6,000 miles over lease allowance (15k/year) and 14 months to go on lease (no disposition fee, etc.), plus dealer paid $6,500 cash for my '90 Q45 with 88k and in decent condition (which was about what I might have gotten for it selling it myself). Thought it quite a good deal to get out of two older cars and into new QX4 with better engine, HID, etc., with no hassles.

It lists at $48000can which should be able to be discounted at least a few thousand. Any experiences appreciated as I am in Edmonton Alberta and there is only 1 local Infiniti dealer. ?

In Toronto I got quote for 46020.00 that did not include any taxes of any sort. Add 100 for AC tax, etc. In the United States working buying in Canada because of favorable exchange rate. I am sure you know all the taxes GST and so on.
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
Al's right - the best prices are in Toronto and very close to that in Vancouver. That's why so many US people are going there to get their vehicles. I can get you a great contact in Vancouver and maybe one in Calgary (a lot closer for you). The actual Canadian list price for the QX4 is 48000 + 1060 for delivery = 49060. 46000 to 46500 (incl delivery) seems to be about the best prices around.

For those of you in the US, that equates to around US$30,700 for a QX4 with AWD, prem pkg, sport pkg, and sunroof. Go on up to Canada to get 'em! Write me if you need info.

He guys, I'm finally a QX4 owner. I've been a QX4 lover for a few years now and I finally decided to buy one after a long wait. To make a long story short as possible, my wife and I decided it's time to buy. So we called our local Richmond, VA Infinite dealer but their lease terms were too expensive. So then I called Infinite dealer in VA Beach and finally a dealer in Northern VA. The Northern VA dealer offered the best deal. So we said OK, got approved over the phone, and planned to pick my 2001 QX4 4X4 with all the options except navigation. The sales person seemed helpful and willing to get the deal done at first, but when I was prepared to pick up the truck the next day he said the I that I wanted had been sold the night before. So I said no problem and they were going to locate another one, Black with graphite interior. So he found one in Maryland and he said it would arrive on Tuesday 3/13. So on Tuesday I called before I left to pick up my new I, by this time I'm so excited to get my Q. (I love them so much and I've driven my 92 Rodeo since I was in high school in '93) But anyway, the sales guy didn't know if the car had arrived yet and he would call me back. So I waited impatiently for 30min and there was no call back. So my wife called back (me being hissed at this point) and talked to the CM and he explained that the Q coming from MD had a contract on it but the person's credit app. was denied at first so he wasn't sure if we could get that one and he would call be back with a definite answer. By this time I felt like a puppet on a string. So he called back in 5 min. with the bad news that the truck was not available after all and "that I had two choices... I can get a Q from NJ but it will have 200+ miles on it or I can wait until Sat. or Monday to get one." So I told him I'll call him back. So pissed off by their bad service I called Richmond and the Va Beach dealers back to see if they could give the Q for $525/month $0 down and they said yes. But they only had the Black/Titanium which I like even better than the plain black. So we got approved and shot down to VA Beach and those guys there met there at about 9:30pm and they closed at 8. But we bought it and they the nicest guys that we had dealt with thus far. Needless to say I'm extremely happy with my purchase eventhough the process was a headache. But I got a more expensive Q for a lower monthly payment with the same 4 yr term w/ nothing down. So to hell with the other dealer's choices. (Sorry but I was pretty upset) So now it's my turn to participate in the message board instead of just reading messages from the outside wishing I owned a QX4. And I have no complaints about my Q so far, it is all I thought it would be and more.

And I am finally at one with the universe. I posted last week (under joeliar) about my purchase in Canada so I'll give the rest of my story. My dealer in Vancouver was Richmond Infiniti, salesman was Bob Murphy. I am happy with the service Bob provided and the amount I paid.

I ran into some trouble with my bank Wells Fargo. Partly my fault, I suppose. I didn't inform the loans officer that the car was being bought in Canada. At first when I told her the where the dealership was, she refused on the grounds that "they didn't do that". My experience has always been that when a bureaucrat (or loans officer) says that it means they don't have any personal experience in doing it and they'd rather not learn. I countered that the bank's letter had no restriction on where the dealer was located and the letter constituted a contract. Threatening lawsuits and generally throwing a hissy fit seemed to work. I went with the broker because I know from experience that Customs can be worse than any loans officer, and since I had no experience I felt my time was better spent at my work making money to pay for all this. I'm happy I did and will gladly recommend using a broker if you have any reservations about getting the car across the boarder. I UPS'd the check up overnight for $40. I know I shouldn't have gone for the Paint/Leather protection package, but he, they got me in a weak moment. The bastards. I paid a rate of .6608 for a Canadian bankers draft. Here's the break down
    CDN
    Vehicle Price $46,688.00
    Documentation $128.00
    Paint/Leather $438.00
    Protection
    Total $47,254.00
    Deposit $1,000.00
    $46,254.00
    In USD $30,564.64
    UPS $40.00
    Transport $120.00
    Registered Import Fee $250.00
    Duty $842.16
    Brokers Fee $30.00
    Sub-Total $31,846.80
    WA Sales Tax $2,589.00
    WA Registration Fees $174.00
    (+Deposit in USD) 660.80
    Total Cost $35,270.80

As I previously posted, my QX4 2001 with sunroof, premium and sports pkg. was 33400 without taxs and MV fees. That is about $700 difference from the last post who went to Canada. For my money I would skip the hassel and buy in the US.Just my opinion. No ill intention. P.S. Any QX4 2001 owners feel that the brakes have too much play in them. Went to the dealer said it was normal. The brakes on my 98 QX4 were much firmer. Any comments?
  • sanandtonsanandton Member Posts: 342
several of the PF owners have commented that the brakes feel "spongy" when first applied. My 01 PF seems a little slow to respond on first application, but if I let up and reapply they are quick to respond. I guess it isn't that noticeable to me as our other vehicle is a 2000 EB Expedition. I have to stand on it with both feet to get it to slow. You can imagine how responsive MY PF feels when compared to that. Anyway, several owners felt having the service dept "bleed" the brakes helped. You may want to let your dealer give it a try.

    endophil,
I mentioned your deal to my next door neighbor (who is in the market for a luxury SUV). He presented your deal of 33400 (actually he added 100 to make it 33500) to a dealer in New Jersey (through autobytel) and was told the lowest price is 35000. The dealer mentioned that previous infinity owners are intitled to a 1000 cash back loyalty offer. Is this a punch of cow dump?
He rather not purchase the vehicle in Canada due to the 9 hour drive to bring back to the states.

Sounds like the experience with the dealership is not good. I hope after the fat lady sings the relationship with the QX4 is a love affair. Because of this posting when I buy, I will look at the closing contract with a sharp eye. Thanks for the posting.
  • endophilendophil Member Posts: 16
Infiniti does have a $1000 customer loyalty for previous owners. Even without it the price is below 34500. Give New Country Infiniti in Conn. 203-625-9300 and ask for Kevin. Tell him Phil from NY just bought a car from you and get the price. I did my whole deal over the phone. Just went to Conn. to pick up the car.

I'm now the proud owner of a White, 1999 QX4. I am thrilled. It has 20,445 miles on it and it is immaculate!!! It is loaded, heated seats, 6 disc changer, the works. I got it for $25,900. If anyone is looking for an Infiniti in the Alabama area, try Crown Automobile, the service was excellent. I am happy to be able to post. I too, am at one with the universe.

I live in Virginia Beach and have driven a 94 Suburban for the last several years. I would like to downsize to a 5 passenger vehicle, but upgrade the quality. I therefore have visited several dealerships and came upon the Infiniti dealership in town and was very impressd with the look and quality of the QX4. The only problem is that I can't afford the 2000 or 2001 models, but they do have a 98 with 39,000 miles they have listed for $27,500.
Is this a fair price? What should I realisticly offer? And does the 98 have any problems that I should be aware of that might lead me to look for a 99 or try to come up with the money for a 2000?
I am new to the site and if anyone can help I'd be very appreciative
  • ace10ace10 Member Posts: 137
read back about 100 or so posts. there was a very lengthy discussion about fair prices. in my opinion, $27,500 is an absurd price for a used '98. remember this... that vehicle, if fully loaded sold for $32 to $33K when NEW! these sold at HUGE discounts to the $38K sticker in 1998. a realistc price is in the $23 to $24 range. DO NOT BELIEVE TO THE CONTRARY!

these older qx4's are not in demand, at all.

    my opinion.

Look at a 2001 Pathfinder LE. Yes, it's missing some of the extra "goodies", but you'll get a new car, lots of options AND the added horsepower from a 1998 QX4. You should be able to get one completely loaded for less than $30K. Check over on the PF board.

Offer them 22,000 that is atrocious. You can buy a 2000 in St. Louis for 27,000. This has 16k miles and loaded.

Is anyone sure that if I purchase my QX4 in Canada and bring it back to the U.S that my warranty will still be good at my local Infiniti dealer? The warranty is one of the major selling points of the QX4 and it would completely negate the savings if you lose it.
  • johnskevjohnskev Member Posts: 98
when you return to the states after purchasing a qx4 in canada, you must go to a local dealer and have your vehicle registered (from the sounds of it, they can do while you stand there). once it's registered, you have warranty coverage in the states.

am i right jon? (jon - username lofquist - is the foremost expert on the canadian experience.)

    dchartier,
I had no problem getting my warranty transferred to the US on my Pathfinder. Two ways to do it:
    - Go to your local dealer. I did it this way. They had never done it before, but checked it out. About a week later they called to tell me it was in the US system just fine.
    - Call Nissan US (800-NISSAN1) and they will send you a short form to send back to them. I got a form from them, but didn't use it because I had gone to the dealer.

I'm ready to purchase a new SUV. After considering Land Rover Discovery series II, just change my mind. Reading around, 2001 QX4 (2X4) sounds good for me. Luxurios inside, powerful engine, not to much stuff "off road", wich is OK with me. The price is... OK, let's say. Drum brakes on rear?! This is a lux. vehicle, they said. My 89 Nissan 240 has discs on all 4 brakes!
This design came out like six years ago. Just a little "face lift" for 2001. Did anybody know when they will change it? Because soon should be.

Another question is: how close is it from Pathfinder? It is like 95%?

I have seen a few posters state that they have negotiated for $500-1000 below invoice for the 2001 QX4 (in the US). Is the only way to get this is you are a previous Infinity owner? I have seen no national rebates posted. And as far as the loyalty bonue, does it apply if you owned a Nissan? Has anyone gotten great pricing in the DC area? Please limit responses to US pricing only--I cannot purchase in Canada due to husband's nix-nay.
