All that information but not mention of the 4 wheel steering, and if it is going to be offered as standard or optional equipment in the DXL, and if is even available on the Denali.

I got my 2001 DXL back yesterday. I had my local GMC dealer install a MagnaCharger supercharger. I have not really tested it but after a couple of errands around town and out on the interstate it is very evident I have MORE POWER. The biggest difference seems to be between 20 and 50 MPH. From 20 MPH I can be to 50 MPH much quicker than before. Also at freeway speeds it will continue to pull strong as long as you have your foot in it. I have not had a chance to safely test it beyond 85 MPH but will get the chance in a week when I take it on a trip to Montana. The supercharger whine is present, but not if you are just driving mellow around town.

The installation was relatively simple and the instructions were very complete. It took a single tech about 8 hours to complete the installation.
  • larry91larry91 Member Posts: 189
Would u share with us the cost of that project?

If and when u trade the vehicle, do u intend to leave the charger on, or remove it?
    Thanks
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
I seen techs remove and install motors in less than 8 hours. Well actually it does depend on the quality of the tech....and 8 hours isn't simple.
  • jammon1jammon1 Member Posts: 28
The price of the supercharger is $3900 from Magnacharger. If you buy it from a dealer/installer they can buy it for about $3400. The kit includes the charger, fuel injectors from the 8.1 Vortec, Superchips custom chip for your VIN, all belts, hoses, clamps and bolts to complete the install. Also included is a step by step instruction manual with photos for each step.

I worked with my local GMC dealer to get them to sell the Supercharger kit at cost and got them to guarantee me a max charge for the installation. They really wanted to do try one of the Magnacharger kits and I have dealt with them on several vehicles over the past several years so they were willing to do it for parts at cost and a fixed installation charge.

Now that the tech has installed the system once I am sure that he could complete it in probably five hours or so. You have to remove the air filter box and cut a larger hole in the inner fender wall to allow for more cold air to feed the system. That step takes a little time. Beyond that it is remove and replace with the parts supplied. Finally you load the Superchip programming and you are ready to go. I know the tech took his time to make sure it was done right and did a great job securing hoses and wires that had to be moved to accomodate the charger.

After another day of driving it I know it is faster. I am also getting worse mileage but most of that is because I am driving it more aggressively than before the charger was on. I am sure that after another week or two I will be back to more mellow starts at the green light. I was on the interstate yesterday when it was rather empty and punched it when I was running 70, before I knew it I was at 95! I did not intend to go that fast, I was more trying to feel the pull it had at 70 if you needed to pass someone. Needless to say it is much faster than before. I will test the 0-60 times with a G-Tech in two weeks. I will post the times then.
  • jammon1jammon1 Member Posts: 28
My preference would be to sell it with the charger on it. I did keep all of the original parts so it could be removed if needed.

I have been holding off purchasing a Denali until I see the '03. The changes seem worth the wait, but I have heard about a "new" look and am worried it may be "Escaladish" (too much cladding and huge emblems). Anyone found any pictures yet?
  • iexplore2000iexplore2000 Member Posts: 237
Actually.. there is no "significant" exterior change for the 2003 models with the exception of the turn signal mirrors to be incorporated into both models. Basically the overall look will remain the same. Unfortunately I am at work and do not have access to my home PC, but there is a official GM Media One link that has exclusive pictures and model line up information on all of Gm's 2003 models. I was able to gain special access to the "forbidden" areas of the website by requesting an ID/Password combo (because I work for the government) to view exclusive pictures, etc.

The only significant changes for 2003 is that you will see A LOT of the Envoy's trim and features incorporated into the dash of the Denali. The website shows pictures of the Denali equipped with the following Envoy features: dual zone automatic HVAC, steering wheel and redundant controls, gauges, etc. in addition to some powertrain AWD refinements & stability control.

If you are interested, I can e-mail you pics from the website with the incorporated changes? Just send an e-mail to:

    IExplore2000@aol.com

But.. with all these changes will come a hefty price increase, they are incorporating a lot of "new age" technology into these vehicles for 2003 and I am sure that the cost will not be cheap!

    Good Luck!

I am waiting for GM to have a build date for my Denali that was ordered in June, with every option except a moon roof white color was the wifes choice this year, at dealer invoice. here is a site that you may find of interest. http://media.gm.com./division/gmc/index.html
  • hrhauserhrhauser Member Posts: 22
Looks like the list is over $50,000 and invoice around $44,000, just like buying a Cadillac Esclade but better looking. No build dates for Denails, Yukons are on the dealer lots.

I have just purchased a 2002 XL Denali and want to put in a mobile tv. The ones I have looked at so far won't work because of the sunroof. I have been told that Audiovox will work, but don't know anything about them. Any suggestions? Am looking at 6-7" screen and DVD. Don't need anything fancy.
  • cdsakdolcdsakdol Member Posts: 4
Is there any after market kits to install 3rd row seating in a 1999 Yukon Denali 4X4 similar to the newer Yukon Denali's? What year did Yukon start adding the 3rd row seat as an option? I know the XL's have 3rd row seating but I'm not talking about the XL's.
  • orwoodyorwoody Member Posts: 269
I had same quandary and also was not really wanting a roof mounted unit as they cut down on visibility and are more distracting. I decided to go after Audiovox DVD in a bag. It's portable, runs on AC or DC, our little girl loves it as we can use it in the Yukon; between the front seats, on the seat...and also take it into the motel or Grandma's house. The screen is detachable from the DVD unit so they can be located separately. It even has a remote...it was also considerably less $$$ than the roof mounts., although it only has a 5.5 inch screen, we've found it adequate for all the back seat passengers. Since we've put almost 25k miles on our Yukon Denali in just over a year we've put the DVD unit to a lot of use. We've also had no issues with the Yukon sans a couple of little nigglers(door flipper trim falling out and a misaligned piece of weather strip) Sure wish I could say I was as impressed/happy with the AWD Subaru we used to own and my wife's Volvo XC70.

    Hi.

Just bought a 2002 DXL for the Mrs. Came with Fact Sunroof and the captains chairs. Paid invoice. Took the truck straight to an electronics store and had them install the 8.1 inch Audiovox DVD unit. Had to wait a few days for a tan colored trim ring, but the install is flawless. Had them extend the headphone jacks under the carpet behind the c-pillars for plug in headphones. (my kids are 4 and 5, too young for wireless). They also ran a PS2 cord under the carpet for later.

We are thrilled with the whole set-up. The DXL is zippy, and the tv sunroof set up is slick.

I am going to get myself an 2003 DXL in a few days.

I have a question regarding the towing capacity. My manual says 6600 lbs maximum
I am looking at a 32 foot Airstream (7,000 lbs.)
Should I upgrade to an Surburban type vehicle or can I pull the Airstream with confidence?

Anyone have a sense on what the best deal going is on an 02 Denali? I would imagine that I can get invoice (before incentives) based on other comments. Any thoughts on strategies to get below invoice? Does the dealer get the full holdback if they take in the Denali that they can sell right away even though the dealer took in the Denali on trade from another dealer that might have had the truck on their lot for say 45 days? By the way, the local dealer had an 03 Denali on the lot.
  • pilkopilko Member Posts: 22
    donahues,

If your local dealer has an 03 Denali can you tell me what the center console looks like. Is it like the old Denali console or like the rest of the 03 Yukons? Is the Black Cherry trim still there?

Despite searching the internet I haven't found a single picture of the 03 Denali interior. There are some pictures of the 03 Escalade interior but you can't see the center console except in a picture that claims to be an 03 but is really an 02.

    Thanks.
  • donahuesdonahues Member Posts: 36
If memory serves me, I think the 03 console is slightly different on the inside but similar dimensions on the outside. I seem to recall the black cherry trim, but the cig. lighter adaptor location and the layout of the interior console seemed different. I am not sure if the center console opened two ways either (with the flip up) or if it just opened to the larger vestibule. I don't recall the details of the center console that well. The differences that I did notice between the 02 and the 03 were: XM Satellite radio with a different digital display on the radio (told me the radio stations by name but I don't know if this was part of the XM service) and nicer radio controls on the steering wheel, computer display where current odometer, OnStar buttons on the rear view mirror, nice digital climate control with separate settings for passenger and driver, heat controls on driver and passenger seats to heat just the butt or both back and butt (there are two seat heater settings), memory seat settings for pass. and driver, XM Satellite radio antenna installed on the passanger side of the roof at the same forward location as the driver's side OnStar antenna. Also the radio deck had a single CD plus the tape. It had the same 6 disc changer that is in the '02. The 03 I looked at also had the captians chairs for the 2nd row. Also the 03 was the new graphite color which I thought was absoutely beautiful. In all the 03 dash was cleaner/sleeker with nicer climate controls and a nicer steering wheel, but more or less the same vehicle. I would buy the '03 for the slightly nicer dash layout and the graphite color if it weren't for the 0% financing. I did not drive the 03 as the dealership hadn't even checked the car in yet.
  • donahuesdonahues Member Posts: 36
one other thing- the 03 also had the ActiveTrack or whatever the new traction control is called. That button is where the 02 onstar buttons are.
  • pilkopilko Member Posts: 22
    thanks for the comprehensive reply.

I think the new radio has RDS as well as XM so the station names could have come from that if the local stations are supporting RDS.
  • donahuesdonahues Member Posts: 36
Sorry for what I am sure is a duplicate question, but search function is not working…

What are you experiencing for gas mileage on an ’02 Denali (not XL) with a broken-in engine?
  • jphdxljphdxl Member Posts: 32
I've read over the months of several transmission issues on this board. Over the weekend I noticed mine ('01 DXL with almost 15k miles) was making a howling noise in all gears that gets louder as as the RPMs increase. The trany doesn't seem to shift as smoothly as it used to and I got a distinct "clunk" twice over the weekend (I think both times while downshifting). I also think we've lost some umph in acceleration. The decreased power certainly could have something to do with the a/c running in auto mode (although I don't remember this happening last Summer in similar circumstances) and I might just be imagining the loss of power as I'm so fixated on the louder noise and the impending repairs.

For those of you who've had trany issues, is this how your problems first appeared? Are these things just the precursor to a new trany, or worse, endless trips to the dealer so he can tell me nothings wrong?

    Any help would be appreciated!

I've a 2001 (non-XL) and I'm getting 11 City and 17 Highway. I burn 87 octane, and run the tires at 35 PSI front and 33 PSI rear.
  • orwoodyorwoody Member Posts: 269
My mileage improved steadily as miles went up. I have 25k+ on my 2001 Denali. I consistently get 13-14 in town only, 16-17 in mixed(70% across several expressways) driving and 18-21 on the open road depending on the number of mountain passes. Worst I ever got was 13 on the first tankful, 90% in town driving, stop and go. I burn 87 octane and we have to use the 10% alcohol blend during winter. The blend drops my mileage 1-2 mpg.

Did I miss something? The '03 Yukon/Denali's have hit the showrooms already?

Yes, I have personally sat in an '03 Denali at my local dealership on Aug. 16.
  • donahuesdonahues Member Posts: 36
I have noticed one of two MSRPs for the 2002 Denali. Some are (for standard features) priced at 47089 whereas others are priced at 47339 . The models seem identical. What are the differences to account for the change or is it just a mid-year price increase?
  • csi35csi35 Member Posts: 28
Strange. If the 03 Denali was out you might expect the site www.gmc.com would have some information/pictures.
  • jgmilbergjgmilberg Member Posts: 872
My local dealership has 3 of each DXL and regular Denali, plus a handful of Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra. GM is not quite up to snuff when it comes to re working the website, so don't depend on that when it comes to when new models are on the lots. Just an FYI also model year change over happens in all GM plants in late June, so it's about the right time for them to be trickling onto dealer lots.
  • donahuesdonahues Member Posts: 36
Just picked up an 02 Denali for a couple hundred over invoice (there were additional shipping charges because the dealer got the Yukon from an out-of-state dealer due to limited local supply. I was able to get them to take off the shipping charges, however. Was worth it to me to pay about $270 over invoice as other dealers had limited supply and color options. Would have had to drive far to get what I wanted but probably could have picked it up for invoice). Took advantage of the 0% financing and did not put a penny down. Rolled TTL into loan. There were a few 03 Denali XLs on the lot (interestingly they had Goodyear tires).

I had the good fortune to install an excellent system in my 2000 Yukon XL, which had a sunroof. I installed the 13.3" drop down from Audiovox (Flex Vision was the model I think). Worked great with the sunroof. I used a Pioneer DVD player with a TV tuner and external antenna, as well as videogame hookups and wireless (IR) headphones:

    image

When we traded it in on a 2002 Denali XL, we knew we couldn't take the old system with us - at least not without leaving a large hole in the headliner. For some reason the dealer didn't want to do this (grin). We came up with a GREAT solution:

    image

We installed these two 7" monitors that are already built into the factory-matching headrests. This means we keep the original headrests and can pop these out if we switch to a new car (assuming it is a car/truck that uses this size of headrest). We also added an Audiovox DVD player which can play MP3's (in that format - so you can put a ton of them on a CD) and video CD's. We went with wireless headphones again, only this time 49 Mhz instead of IR. We also did the video game input, but are using a main control unit that handles the whole thing instead. There are four internal (inside the back side glass) antennas for the TV tuner which gives GREAT reception. There are also inputs for a camera (such as a rearview camera) and outputs for up to four monitors. We went ahead and hooked up a Sega Dreamcast, but have enough power to run the Xbox on it (but it takes up too much room). Each of the monitors can be tuned to different signals (see photo), as can the wireless headphones. This means that one person can watch a DVD while the other plays a game, etc. We also put in an FM modulator to allow us to listen to any of the inputs over the car's audio system. Shrek is actually a hoot to listen to from the front seat! They even had monitors that are mounted in the front visors. We skipped that, as it is illegal for the driver's side and would be distracting enough on the passenger side.

I have more pictures I can send if anybody is interested!

    Chris

PS. The whole thing was around $2K including installation and taxes. I later saw the 7" monitors on the Net for $399 each, including the headrest. Tempted to add two more to the rear captains chairs just because it looks so cool! (LOL)

CNBC just reported that GM extended 0% for up to 36 monts on *most* '03 models. Do not know if this included the Denali.
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
I once had a computer display (LED) permanently damaged while stored in a hot trunk of a car. I would think the heat problem would be worse inside a vehicle.

Have you had any problems like that with your system?

a previous post mentions that they had seen 03 Denali XLs fitted with Goodyear tires. An 03 XL at my local dealership had Michelin Cross-Terrain as per the 02s but I notice that the most recent GM literature on 03s calls the tires "all-season" and doesn't mention a brand.

Does anyone know if GM has changed their policy for the 03 models?
  • csi35csi35 Member Posts: 28
Haven't seen the 03 Denali but have seen an 03 Trailblazer and Envoy. Both had Firestone tires.

Sales said not to worry as these tires came from a different factory that supplied Ford.

Yeah, right. Like I have a death wish. I left and bought a 03 JGC with Goodyears.
  • y2kgtsy2kgts Member Posts: 48
As to heat, never had a problem. I worried about that too, especially with the 2000 and the fold-up LCD. I figured that it could get messed up with the hot sun on a black car - being so close to the roof when folded up. Never a problem!

A few other folks have asked about the system and I didn't reply right away (sorry). I created a web page for the A/V system that should answer most of the questions. Good pictures too!

    http://home.kc.rr.com/viperdiecast/denali/denaliav.htm

Oh, and on the Goodyear tires: I noticed that my 2002 Denali XL (purchased in July) had both a Michelin AND Firestone brochure in the glovebox...

    Chris

PS. I remember some talk about how this particular forum was kind of slow (low posts). Any thought to combining it with the Yukon XL/Suburban and Yukon/Tahoe groups? While there are certainly some mechanical differences on the Denali, it is largely a trim level - much like the "Z" package on the Chevys. At least in my humble opinion...

  • donahuesdonahues Member Posts: 36
I have seen the '03 Denali XLs here in MN with Goodyears. Not sure about the shortys.
  • lobsenzalobsenza Member Posts: 619
The reason you had both brochures is that the spare is a Firestone.
  • jgmilbergjgmilberg Member Posts: 872
I know that some of you have had this problem and there is now a fix for it. Here it is-

Rear Wiper Jumps When Fog Lamps Turned On (Connect Auxiliary Ground to Rear Washer Pump) #02-08-43-001

Rear Wiper Jumps When Fog Lamps Turned On (Connect Auxiliary Ground to Rear Washer Pump)

2000-2002 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Utility Models (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon XL)

    2002 Cadillac Escalade
    Condition

Some customers may comment that the rear wiper jumps when the fog lamps are turned on.
    Cause

Electrical feedback from the fog lamp circuit into the ground of the rear window washer pump may cause this condition.
    Correction

To perform this correction, you will need to obtain the following items:

    * A J 38125-B Terminal Repair Kit. Obtain the following parts from the kit.
    o P/N 12077411 (Terminal) from tray #2
    o P/N 12089496 (Ring Terminal) from tray #5
    * A 508 mm (20 in) length of Black, 0.5 mm (20 gauge) or 0.8 mm (18 gauge) wire

They are Saab 9-5 V6 stationwagon, Audio All-road stationwagon, Toyota Landcruiser, Land Rover Discovery, and Yukon Denali. Looking to lease approx.36 months, 12,000 miles. Any suggestions between the five. We live in MN.

    Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a 1999 yukon denali and have noticed that the lighting on the climate controls does not work at night. The circulation and ac light buttons do not light up either. Can anyone tell me if there is a fuse or bulb I can check for this problem. The radio and cd lighting all works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  • lobsenzalobsenza Member Posts: 619
Depends on what you need to use the vehicle for (number of kids, towing, room requirements, etc)
  • larry91larry91 Member Posts: 189
I own a 2001 Denali XL with 21000 miles, purchased new in April of 2001.
I noticed all the washer fluid came spilling out of the reservoir. Took it to the dealer and found out the battery was leaking acid and the acid ate away the plastic washer fluid bottle..

    Everything was replaced.......
  • jkpsarasjkpsaras Member Posts: 29
I've the same build month, I had the same trouble in the first week with the battery. They replaced the battery and nothing else was damaged.

I did receive a Warranty Notification postcard today. I'll need to call tomorrow to see what's being recalled.
  • larry91larry91 Member Posts: 189
I heard something on the TV about a recall. I think it had to do with the seat mechanism pinching peoples fingers when they move the seat back forward to enter the vehicles third row..
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Yep, CNN had a story on it today right on the main page (must have been a slow news day or they got tired of yet another "markets tank" story).

Just got my 02 Denali a few weeks ago and am loving it. 2 gripes though.

    1. Is there a way to keep the fog lights on all of the time. If you put the fogs on and then turn off the truck and then start it up again, the fogs are off by default.

    2. I have to have the temp dial all of the way to hot in order for hot air to blow. If I put it a few notches below (still in the red) it starts blowing cool air. There must be something wrong with the temp dial, right?

Thanks. Hope everyone is enjoying their Denali's.
