Sounds like an ok way to support your oil change hobby, so long as they don't continue to "find" stuff wrong with your rig every time you take it in for the oil change.
And also assuming that the dealer isn't going to fold up shop in the next year. There are more reports of long time dealers folding showing up around the boards.
But since most dealer oil changes are $30 or more anyway, if you just get two for one, you're still ahead.
I think it's legit, my dealer offers every other oil change for free as long as you bought the car there.
I'm sure they will look for other stuff, but mostly they just want you to be in the routine of going there so that when you hit 30k, 60k, or repair time, they'll make that more profitable sale.
LOL. This is a 12 year old Chrysler that's closer to 120K. I'm sure they'll find plenty they'd like to fix. As long as they don't "require" me to fix things to get my free oil it'll be OK.
Thanks

Midwest credit unions pledge $10 billion in auto loans to help GM

Automotive News | December 10, 2008 - 10:49 am EST
A group of credit unions from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois is pledging $10 billion in low-cost auto financing to its more than 12 million members for the purchase of General Motors vehicles.
It also is working with GM to offer a price discount to members.
The plan is called Invest in America, according to a news release posted on the Michigan Credit Union League’s Web site. The release said the credit union league is talking to Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC about similar programs.
“This new arrangement with Midwest credit unions creates a tremendous value for GM and for thousands of credit union members,” said Mark LaNeve, GM vice president of vehicle sales, service and marketing, in the release. “We appreciate the credit unions’ promotional support and are pleased to make this offer.”
The program started Monday and will run through June 30. It offers eligible vehicles at a price discount to credit union members and their households. Members who buy cars under the program also are eligible for $250 in bonus cash until Jan. 5.
The program will be tested in the four states, possibly going nationwide early next year, the release said.
GM’s U.S. vehicle sales plunged 21.9 percent through November compared with the same 11-month period of 2007, according to the Automotive News data center. Tight credit markets -- and losses at GM’s affiliated finance arm GMAC -- have played a role in choking off retail sales this year.
The credit union initiative could help GM dealers find new financing sources for customers.
“Credit unions have a long history of helping hard-working Americans in troubled times,” said Daniel Mica, CEO of the Credit Union National Association.
Credit union members can find details on the discounts at love my credit unionand obtain an authorization number to take to any GM dealership.
The price discount is on purchases of eligible new Buick, Cadillac, Hummer, Saab, Chevrolet, GMC, Saturn and Pontiac vehicles.

Back on December 1st I asked you folks for your opinion on a "Buy 1 get 3 Free" oil change coupon received from a Chrysler dealership where I had purchased a used Chrysler back in 2002. Today I went in to get oil change #1.
I handed the coupon to the service tech who looked up my 97' Cirrus in his computer and proceeded to enter the coupon info. With a puzzled look on his face he announced that the coupon was invalid on my car.
I asked him how could that be since I had called the week before and the tech I talked to at that time had my Cirrus in his records and told me everything was fine.
"Did you ever buy another Chrysler from us?" he asked. I responded that the only other Chrysler I've owned in decades was a 2000 Concorde which I had purchased from another dealer and which had since been scrapped due to an accident 2 years ago.
"Well, this offer is only good on that car." He said.
I resisted the urge to start swearing and calmly asked why would Chrysler offer me oil changes at one dealship for a car that I had bought at another dealership especially since said car was no longer registered and was probably crushed into scrap metal by now.
The only thing he was able to mutter out was that the other dealership was out of business now and that his dealership was "getting all their business".
I told him that not only was he not getting any service business from me but that I would never buy another car from his store and would most likely never buy a Chrysler again.
Once again, I have learned---IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT USUALLY IS.

WOW!!!! That is crazy. They just lost a customer over what about $10? What really makes it crazy is it is on a car that being a 2002 I am assuming is out of warranty so there are a good possibility of some customer pays in the future.
The whole idea of the free oil change gig is to get the car in the shop so they can see if they can sell you some other service.
Hell they just got a couple billion form the guv you think they could afford an oil change.
"...on a car that being a 2002 I am assuming is out of warranty..."
I bought the car used in 2002. It was a 1997. If they couldn't find a dozen things that need fixing I would be shocked. But you are right, they really shot themselves in the foot as I was planning on spending my wait on the oil change looking around their lot for my wife's next car. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Buy a bottle at AutoZone and use the coupon to get a rebate up to $7.99 a bottle. Limit 2 per household or name. Have to buy the Techron before 2/12/09.
Sort of an odd promo. Got to the Ford Owners site, register your Ford, Lincoln or Mercury auto, and get a 5% discount off computers, electronics and other products from Dell. Click through the Special Offers link to find it. Good through June 1, '09.
I had a very pleasant experience at my local Advance Auto part recently.
Bought a battery for my 2000 Olds Intrigue back in February/march 2005, Autocraft Titanium. Battery died two weeks ago during a cold spell here in south central PA (car is parked on the street and exposed to all elements). The battery had a 3 year free replacement/84 month prorated. Even though I didn't have the receipt, they used the battery code labeled on the side of the battery which had the battery built in October 2004. Never expected much of a refund for the prorated warranty, maybe $10. I received $27.90 back. The new battery was $74.
I had to push a bit. All the sales people were under 20 and had a tough time realizing that 84 months is 7 years. My battery was only 4 years old. Once they grasped that concept, it was fine.
Bought blades. Filled out rebate form online. Printed said form. Mailed to Cleveland, which is 4 hours away in the same state, and they project it will take up to 12 weeks. Luckily I'm a patient, nice, calm person.
This one is a coupon for a free flat repair at Mr. Tire. I assume that's a national chain although I've never seen one. Coupon expires 5/30/09.
I always get my flats fixed free at Les Schwab, a tire store chain out in the western part of the US. Discount Tire also fixes them free from what I've heard.
The fine print says it doesn't start until 4/5 for the PepBoys Peak oil deal and ends 4/18. Narrow window.
I wonder how many weeks/months that rebate will take (although, except for some foot dragging by PC Connection a couple of years ago, all my rebates have gone through ok over the years).
Free subscription if you qualify. Doesn't look too hard to qualify. Messing around on the car forums qualified me when I got this deal about six months ago. :shades:
Lots of fine print on this one. Good through 4/30/09. Max back is $15 a set ($30 total). You can also get $10 a set back if you have a pro shop install them (grand total of $50 back).

And ANCO has mail-in rebates going for several models of windshield wipers. Takes forever to get the rebate though (~10 weeks!).
Great! I'll buy my next pair of wiper blades at Walmart and pick up the $5 rebate on them.
I buy a new pair and move the olds ones around--my cars both take the same size.

Looking further, it appears that you may still have to pay up to $60 for a tow if you use the roadside, so maybe this deal isn't much of a bargain.
