Seems like that anti EV crowd just gets obsessed with range anxiety scenarios. And ignores all the benefits (the reasons so many people buy and love their EVs). Of course like any other vehicle option your specific needs will make some options not good for you. If I lived in an old city I would not want a dually F250. But if I towed a horse trailer I would.
Sorry, but you will have to jump up to an F350 to get a dually. AI Overview
"The Ford F-250 Super Duty does not come with a dual-rear-wheel (DRW) or "dually" configuration. While the F-250 is a heavy-duty truck, the DRW option is exclusive to the F-350 and higher models like the F-450 and F-550."
I agree that many vehicles are for specific purposes. I have a Ram 2500, but do tow a 30' Airstream with it. I rarely drive it in the good weather because that's what the Miata is for. I don't think that I have put 500 miles on it since April when we got back from a camping trip down south. I will use put about 6000 miles on it this fall when we drive to Albuquerque to camp at the balloon Fiesta, then zig back across the country to the NC coast for a fall family reunion before heading back to Vermont.
Nobody needs a pickup truck until they do and then it’s essential. I don’t tow with mine but I can’t imagine trying to haul junk to the dump or bring home lumber without one.

I was putting a few 2x4's in my Legacy one day. Back seat down and the lumber sat on top of the console.
When I closed the trunk there was a guy resting on his pickup looking at me.
He said it's not fair that I can carry 8' 2x4's inside my car when he has to tie his down because they won't fit flat in his bed.
He just laughed. We both knew more than a few 2x4's for me would be too many.

I saw this guy at a Home Depot (or Lowes - I forget). I was going to wait until he was ready to leave to see how far he got, but he was tying it down with the string they supply so I left.

Ha! I've done that multiple times in my ATS. Fold down 1 side of the back seat and aim the boards towards the front passenger side footwell. 10-footers still let you close the trunklid, 12" ones require you to tie it down.

that is what the sliding back window is for. Even my Maverick can carry 8' studs without hanging over the tailgate. Slide them inside through the window, and put the other end where the bed meets the tailgate.
actually, you can get really long ones taken care of if you stick the other end out the moonroof!
I once took 12’ baseboards home in the 04 Grand Marquis. Opened the passenger front window and angled them all the way to the drivers rear deck. Quite a bit stuck out the window. Ghetto but it worked for the 4 mile ride

A few years ago while at Home Depot an off duty officer, in his personal car, cruised by a guy with his load hanging out like yours. He told the guy not to do that and told him about the 2 foot law. The guy asked the officer if he was on duty and the officer said, “no, why”? The dumb arrogant guy then told him to mind his own business since he didn’t have authority to stop him. The officer politely said, “don’t be so sure about that but by the time I see you pull out of this lot I’ll have a cruiser waiting for you”.
The guy sounded like a drunken sailor as he unloaded his lumber. I was in the Navy myself but I never heard words conjugated like that. The officer just listened and smiled.

Yeah probably shouldn’t have done it but, it’s all back roads from HD to home. In all honesty they stuck out less from the SUV then they would have a truck.
I know EVs are a hot topic. Probably much like going from hose and buggy to horseless carriages was at one time. Unfortunately, much of the eV "opinions" are political. Funny, used to be one side was against them as they represented progress. Those flipped once Musk through million$$$$$$$$ at one side of the political spectrum. Now, those same people are aghast at how some mistreat vehicles like Cybertrucks....the Crown Jewel of EVs (at least they were).
Personally, I like my EV. It's cheap to operate, reliable as an anvil, fast, comfortable, etc...all those things I like my cars to be.
With incentives going away, I don't know how I will proceed once my lease is up (also cheap). If the price of another EV goes up dramatically, I'd go back to ICE. I don't want to, however. I like my EV too much to do that.
All that said, I charge it in my garage 90% of the time. And, the times I have to use a public charger it doesn't really bother me that it takes 20 or so minutes to charge up. That's on a long trip. And, charging coincides with me taking a break anyway.
I believe charging infrastructure and charging times are going to improve exponentially going forward. And, prices will come down as more and more lower cost EVs are now scheduled to hit the market. They are unquestionably less hassle to maintain and to own than ICE vehicles.
“ Now, those same people are aghast at how some mistreat vehicles like Cybertrucks....the Crown Jewel of EVs (at least they were).”
I don’t know how the “same people” think but personally I don’t see the point in destroying your neighbor’s property because you got emotional over policies in Washington.

The other day I put some 12’ boards in my 8’ pickup bed and by placing them in diagonally they barely stuck out past the tailgate. When I had the cargo van I had to lay one end on the dash board and I worried that one quick stop would ventilate the windshield.

———————————————— You could always do what I do with the Subie when carrying 10 foot boards or 10 foot sticks of PVC pipe. That is, fold up an old bath towel so it’s about 4 inches thick then put it against the windshield with your wood/pipe resting against the towel. You have a better chance of saving your windshield if your load doesn’t get a running start at slamming into the windshield. So far, that method had worked for me. Of course leaving a good distance from the car in front of you helps too.

I picked up a 2024 BMW i5 (EV) yesterday in Oregon. Flew down in the morning from Seattle and drove it home - 6.5 hours total, 270 miles.
I only needed to charge once because I left the dealer with 80% charge, but due to traffic and my own bodily functions I asked it to schedule two stops for charging, 10 minutes each - just enough time for me to use the facilities and stretch my legs. No muss, no fuss. No dead car on the side of the highway.

We always do a mix of both. It definitely was hot cooking this morning even at 7:00. My neighbor came out for her run and said “you never stop”. Hardest part of cooking outside is our condo is elevated so everything is up/down a flight a stairs.

I decided to clear another piece of my land that had been bugging me (weed trees). only about 80 so I bundled up and got to work, then took another load to the transfer station. My plan to not die is to only do as much at one time that will fit in the bed of my truck with the cover rolled closed. Generally about an hours worth of work gets me there. At this pace, I might have cleared out everything I want done by the time I turn 70.

I went to a concert of his in 81 (?) while I was attending UT Knoxville. It was very enjoyable. Not sure my date agreed. That was short lived. Lol

I don’t know how the “same people” think but personally I don’t see the point in destroying your neighbor’s property because you got emotional over policies in Washington.

You could always do what I do with the Subie when carrying 10 foot boards or 10 foot sticks of PVC pipe.

I know this will cause a storm, but…
I picked up a 2024 BMW i5 (EV) yesterday in Oregon.

Back at it today and it’s only slightly better.

90 predicted today in Denver, and warmer tomorrow and Monday.
But, not nearly as much humidity.

We always do a mix of both. It definitely was hot cooking this morning even at 7:00. My neighbor came out for her run and said “you never stop”. Hardest part of cooking outside is our condo is elevated so everything is up/down a flight a stairs.

Did you use EA or a mix of what was convenient?

Am I the only one that missed this invite and I don’t think this was the first time, either. Good way to be taken off my Christmas card list.

Used EA because I get two free years of charging.
I use EA as well for the same reason

Well .. I have one. What I haven’t done is install the outlet for it. It’s happening in Sept. Free charging ends in Oct.

You’d feel a lot worse if you didn’t use it. I didn’t buy AC to see how much money I could save, I bought it to turn on and make me comfortable. I remember growing up without it, don’t want any part of that again.

Agree. I grew up in St Petersburg and New Orleans with homes that did not have ac or was not used often. Don't want to go there again if I don't have to. Dad was not a fan of ac.
