I really think that Jeep should require potential 4xe buyers to pass a reading comprehension test. The 4xe FB pages and 4xe forums receive a steady stream of posts along the lines of, "I was ripped off! It will only travel 25 miles on the battery!"
    Idiots.

Those are also the same people who sign up for 8 year loans at 29% interest.😥

I went with the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds. They are noise-canceling and sound very good- although I primarily use them for listening to podcasts while I ride our recumbent bike or cut the grass.

I have multiple devices that I use via bluetooth, including my Edmunds PC for meetings, so I have acquired multiple pairs of different brands that are only ever connected to specific devices (to avoid "won't connect" conflicts). Since the quality is most important for music, I test them against each other using Robbie Williams' "Let Me Entertain You," since there's a LOT, musically, going on in that song. I still have yet to find a better pair than my Monster 300's, which I paid ~$50 for. There's no app/equalizer, but the app I use to play music (DoubleTwist) has one built in, which I've customized. It's really difficult to shop for earbuds because unless they're really crappy, they all seem to end up with an aggregate consumer rating between 4.2 and 4.4 stars, and there's no easy way to test before buying.

@Kirstie_H - that song does make a good test for devices! I've used "Midnight City" by M83, as well.

My dad had a couple of old Alpine Car Audio Nationals CDs that he would use to test systems.

I’m having problems getting to PM’s on my phone since I’ve lost my Quick Links section. I’m pretty sure I still have it on my PC, which is upstairs in the office. We’re getting ready to go out to dinner now. I don’t usually go upstairs till bed time so I’ll have to check on that later.

Just check Greentoe.com for the LG OLED pricing. There is also an app. I got my LG OLED C4 there and it comes from an authorized dealer near Nashville. I believe current 65 in is $1399 including shipping. You could try submit a price as well.

I’m really happy with the LG OLED C4

I tend to favor testing with songs that have high brass instruments. If the blaring horns don't distort AND the lows don't distort on the same song, I'm probably good to go. I usually hit the quiet neighborhood streets shortly after 6 am, so whatever I'm playing is the only sound I'll really hear. Poor audio quality really stands out.

I know some pan Apple accessories for being pricey. But, their AirPods Pro and AirPod Max headphones are rock solid for connectivity if you use an iPhone. And sonically, you'd have to spend a whole lot more money to get significantly better sound.

Android, but I use my iPad within the house. I had some older generation AirPods, and while they were good, they're the ones that most wanted to jump out of my ears immediately. My Ankers are the best for that purpose, but the worst sound quality for music, so they got relegated to the work-use pile.

I picked up a set of the XM4 noise cancelling headphones in November when Best Buy had them on sale to replace my Bose headphones that finally died. They work great and on airplanes do a very good job with noise cancelling.

My issue is, I have time on my hands. I go to audio shows (next one is in Schaumberg, IL this coming Spring). I also go to the local antique malls and thrift stores. I find audio gear that I find interesting and bring it home like a lost puppy. I plug it in. If it works or only needs minor repair, it goes in my "electronics closet", where all the AV gear I've accumulated over the years takes up residence. I've got some stuff in there that needs to go back to the thrift store. Other stuff is worth some coin. I just have to do something with it.

I think I have an addiction.

Some pretty incredible footage of the CA fire(s).... I'm hoping to be able to put the link for the specific time of footage, but 11:31 is the most dramatic stuff, just a minute or so of compiled footage.

The YT account “Onscene TV” has several videos of the fire losses taken on the residential streets which are staggering. What strikes me is the seeming randomness of the fires. A house fully involved and an inferno right next to one seemingly unaffected. I think a great many stucco/block structures were still lost thanks to asphalt/composition roofing catching fire from the embers. But I also saw a house with a clay tile roof fully intact also going up in flames. A great many vehicles incinerated too. Here’s one of their videos:

    https://youtu.be/5jwH4W2gj1s?si=Fe2J3-uPnTLAVcSU
I saw one news report where one house was burned to the ground and the heat set the wood window frames ablaze on the untouched house next door. I understand there was no water in the hydrants so whole neighborhoods burned while firefighters stood by helpless.

    Finger pointing to follow.
There’s probably a lot of blame to go around. The most frustrating thing right now are the muddle-heads claiming this was intentional or questioning why the fire department didn’t put it out. Some people just can’t be helped.

If you can tolerate the awful narration here (lots of “Dude, look at that!” and similar azzhattery) and the absolute idiocy of some of their actions, this is an interesting look at the goings on just as things were starting to go off the rails and then later when things got bad.

Cool Adcom CD changer! In 1991 I was deciding between the top line Adcom and Denon CD players, then the Rotel RCD-855 was introduced- undercutting those two players by around $350 if I recall correctly. I bought it from an authorized Rotel dealer- whose "store" was a home in a gated community! While I was there he sold me a set of Discrete Technology interconnects, and I later added some sorbothane feet. That was as far as I ventured down the High End rabbit hole.

I can’t wear ear buds. Never had any luck getting them to stay in.

Likewise, at least for the hard plastic ones that came with iPhones for a while. I was told I needed to buy a set with the soft foam covers which would stay in. But I really don’t need to look dorky that badly. B)

I seem to remember you posting a pic of yourself a while back. I’d say you have that look covered. :p

I could have resisted but I couldn’t help myself. o:)
You most certainly have mistaken me for someone else since I don’t post pics of myself here. You must be thinking of that guy in the horizontally-striped pullover shirt.

I’m almost positive you posted a pic of yourself when you were in the hospital maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Then a more recent one when you were with a few employees walking down a street. I think that one was a newspaper clipping.

But yeah, the guy in the horizontally striped shirt might just take the dork prize. But if not that one the one where he’s wearing the Batman outfit will definitely remove all doubts. o:)

Well, if I had any serious thoughts of getting an upgraded soundbar or diving into some nice audio stuff, I’m pretty sure that’s going to be on hold for a few hours. Why? I just received 4 tires from Tire Rack for the Genny. Just a tick under $1,200. And now I have to get them mounted and balanced, more ca-ching. Add another hour to my first guesstimate. :'(

Words can’t describe that. It’s an unbelievable tragedy to be sure. I hope those folks get satisfaction from their insurance companies. I think everyone’s insurance rates will go up to cover this. Now I’m wondering about me because I’m with a regional company vs. a national company. By rights my rates shouldn’t go up but I think they will. I doubt my company, as good as it is, will pass up the opportunity to jack up my rates at least a little. Am I wrong about this?

those open ear headphones could be good for me. Except I usually wear them sitting in a recliner so having the bar behind my head would not be ideal. I have a pair of Koss compacts that have nice small ear pads (most of them are giant muffs!) The issue is they are wired (which gets tiring, even though I only use them with my laptop) and the headphone jack is very touchy so often it disconnects and I have to fiddle to get it plugged back in. Bluetooth would be so much nicer but those seem to be either big giant ear covers, or buds.

Thanks, I’ve heard of that but I have to get a state inspection too. So, I’ll be killing 2 birds with one stone, or at least with one stop, where I’m having it done.

    Thanks again.

I saw a video yesterday taken of flight ops at a very snowy Atlanta Hartsfield airport where a Delta 757 suffered an engine failure on its runway rollout and had to reject the takeoff. Then fire was reported from the engine after they came to a stop so they had to evac the aircraft right there using the slides. The initial takeoff roll was on a supposedly clear runway but from the camera angle it looked like a mess with lots of snow and slush being kicked up before they aborted. Very unusual to see that sort of weather there.

Just being at Hartsfield is awful enough. Having to go through that makes it exponentially worse!

I remember that Rotel. Very good unit.

I love my Adcom stack. The amp can drive just about anything and it’s a very clean sound.

I browse marketplace for gear all the time, there are some good deals to be had but I’ve already got enough stuff that I can’t have it all hooked up.

snowing again up here. Because it is the rare day where we actually have plans that require driving someplace. Never fails.

I need to do something with my excess. Other than keep moving it house to house and buying shelves to stash it on. I used to have set-ups in the family room, master, and basement rec room. Plus a few spare receivers. Now, I only have one in the basement. No need for the bedroom, and no good place for one in the family room.

I do still have my turntable that I either got in college or right after, so it dates to the 80's. have not played a record in probably 20-25 years though. Nor do I own any. Yet I keep it. Should probably figure out if it is worth anything!

also still have the CD player I bought when they first came out (early 90's?). An ADC. Darned thing still works perfectly. Have that set up. Now CDs, those I have (many plastic boxes full, definitely over 1,000). I did have a plan to upload them all (and did once do a few 100 to iTunes, which got lost in the ether at one point). I started doing them again to a different tool (something with Monkey in the name) that I used to collect everything I did have on my laptop digitized. That is about 3,000 songs I copied to a USB stick. Maybe when I retire I can do the rest!
