I meet a new friend today. I have entertained you regarding my dislike of the demons, sorry I mean squirrels, that haunt my property. We'll I was working from home today and my desk is right infront of a window overlooking my backyard. We'll if you look out that window and to the right a little you will see a tree that has a nice big squirrels nest in it about wondow height.

We'll as I was working this morning I caught something out of the corner of my eye and looked up. There was this big hawk flying into the tree and landed right on the nest. He immediately stuck his head onto the nest and three squirrels immediately jumped out. And I mean they jumped they were airborne leaving the nest. It was like someone set off an explosion that ejected them.

LOL! I call them tree rats. Oh, they are insidious little creatures. I am glad to know that others share my dislike of squirrels.

Making Grandpa proud! It was completely his idea to clean up his Mustang.
He's going to be 3 in a few weeks.

Lucky guy. Enjoy these days before he’s old enough to drive your Mustang. My youngest grandchild (a girl, the only girl out of 5 grandkids) got her permit a couple months ago. It’s been said that time flies but it flies at the speed of lights when your a grandparent.

    Enjoy.

People get into that kind of situation by making poor choices. But mostly because predatory lenders take advantage and enable them.

if you want to annoy the squirrels, get a lab. That will keep the lab and the squirrels both exercised!

I've seen that one a couple times, kind of a fascinating time machine 40+ years later. I like the end scene, where the car driving at sunset is a MB W126 300SD - a pretty posh car in 1982, would have set one back around 35K MSRP (and they were probably getting sticker for them then). If I was buying a new car in 1982 and price was not a big concern, that would have been a top choice, a very real chance the car still exists today.

This is a real throwback to the glory days of malls in the 1980s, discussing the Oak Park Mall in Kansas. Back then instead of gangs and shootings the biggest problems seemed to be teens hanging around the mall to smoke cigarettes and pick up members of the opposite sex. They even talk to the old farmer who sold the developer the property.

It looks like my son and I will be taking the full-day "M Intensive" school at Indy in September or October. We also considered the full day AMG Performance school at Road Atlanta, but that school also included seat time in the EVs and the G63 SUV, which didn't thrill either of us. In contrast the M Intensive school cars are limited to the M2, M3 Competition and M4 Competition.

This is a series of segments that aired on the local news station in 1990 near where I grew up:

They installed a TON of speed bumps to try to deter the cruising. The news station gets bonus points for using "Cult of Personality" as the background music.

I must be missing something. I mentioned previously I watch the YouTube channel for J&S AutoHaus in NJ. Feel like they're a little sleazy, but I watch anyway.

I'm missing something? I see these 20 somethings coming in to buy Cyber Trucks, BMW Ms, Benz G Wagons, etc. Inheritance? Drug Dealers? I saw one guy in his 20s being quoted a $1,700/month car payment and he didn't even flinch.

Have salaries bumped that much? Maybe I need to "un-retire"!

    Here’s how they do it:

J&S is still around? I used to look at their listings many years ago. And did get the impression they were a touch on the iffy side. Did not know they did YouTube and showed customers (why an actual customer would want to do that is a mystery so maybe they are fictional?).

IIRC they had 5 locations scattered around. I think IV was not far from me in. Mount holly.

Yes. I watch his TikTok and sometimes comment. It is a bit risky, IMHO, showing the negotiations and then posting them for sale on his website for all to see the markup. And I have grown weary of some of his schtick such as his ocd about asking if EVERY car still has catylytics and what the original sticker price is, as if the latter means anything for resale.

George is not the original owner, AFAIK. I believe he took it over from his dad, but don’t quote me on that.

I have had both good and bad experiences there. Bought my 350z there way back when. My other visits were busts. I’d say at least 5-6 other visits over the years. I recall a Sentra manual that was way overpriced and they didn’t want to budge, and some kind of SUV for the wife that had too many issues. I know there were others but can’t recall details.

I see George, who's the son of the original Owner (I think) have his Dad in some of the vids. George and his Dad seem OK. HIs Brother (don't know his name) feels a bit sleazy. And, the rest of the folks are a lot sleazy.

I guess his customer base seems to be guys who are constantly rolling negative equity into another "high buck" ride, which exacerbates their dilemma because they "HAVE TO HAVE" another overpriced luxury marque. They also own the Mitsubishi Dealership, which is an odd pairing with their big dollar used car business. They don't talk about it, but I have to wonder if a large portion of their business is done with the Middle Eastern countries.

    Painting update!

After taking some well deserved time off (and to recover from a nasty winter cold), my stepdaughter broke out the paint cans and brushes yesterday and made a bit more progress. She's now working on the interior doors - the front door, her bedroom door, and one of the hallway closet doors got done.

In addition, we addressed an oversight from the builder. In our house, practically every light is recessed - kitchen, dining/living rooms, hallways. Only the baths and closets have light fixtures. But, our hallway has a bit of a "T" shape to it, where the linen closet is, and there is no light there. We tried the stick on lights inside the closet door, but those never worked as well as we hoped.

So, the wife got on Thumbtack and found an electrician to install a new light fixture and switch for us yesterday. Works exactly as we hoped. They did have to get into the attic to run the wiring from the switch to the fixture, but they were young and nimble, so it wasn't too much of a problem (the attic access is from a panel in the garage, which is a good 20' above the floor).

Speaking of garages with tall ceilings (I think the side of mine without a drop must be at least 18’) I saw a pop up for one of these and got to thinking. Might solve my space issue! Need to get out the tape measure and some painters tape to mark it out, but with high ceilings and the 18’ wide door, could work without getting in the way! https://automotiveequipmentspecialists.com/bendpak-hd-9-9-000-lb-capacity-standard-width-car-lift/?_vsrefdom=adwords&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADesmBQRaol_7fyM1R02ThvHRCrFT&gclid=Cj0KCQiAs5i8BhDmARIsAGE4xHzS1IkCWlCuDtvyoNrBEychtrEewuIyGR0-vgC38ul-LF58nkKM97YaAtMCEALw_wcB

My buddy with the old-car bug bought yet another car this past year, a ‘64 Pontiac Cheviac Parisienne, which back then meant a Pontiac body and interior built on a Chevy frame. This one has the 327 Chevy engine with Powerglide. It will go nicely with the ‘63 Impala 2-door he bought a year or so before. Both are 2-door HTs. When he showed me some pictures I asked him where we was keeping it, since his 6-car garage space was already full. He told me he bought another lift, so he now has two of them. I expect a third one will be in his future. It’s just wild.

About their owning a Mitsubishi dealership:

Wouldn’t a Mitsubishi dealership fall in the category of attracting your typical “payment buyers”? So, to my way of thinking, they get buyers on both ends of the market. That’s a win/win, right? Like I’ve said before about stuff like this…”nice work if you can get it”.

I might be too late with this suggestion but if your house has the typical raised 6 panel doors, I’ve found that painting the inside edges of the panels with a brush then painting all of the flat surfaces and door edges with a small 4 inch roller saves a LOT of time and gives a perfect result.

Like I said, I hope I’m not too late with this comment.

Yeah, why not? Great way to do your own oil changes, but you gotta keep good oil change documentation. B) And, at this time of the year a great way to spray the salt off of the underside of the car. You only need a hose and a hooded rain coat to do that. Both of those could be a good side gig when you retire, :/

Wellllll...felt like I was shopping for a car, but after visiting on line e-tailers, Costco, Best Buy, Micro Center, and Greentoe, I ended up buying from Best Buy. Surprised me. Was looking around last night, and found they were about $200 less than the other sellers. I believe Greentoe probably would have been close, but had never done business with them. Plus, BB is offering free set up.

Don't need much with set up, as I'll do that myself. But, unpacking and moving the TV to my downstairs home theater, is something I could use. As far as connecting it, I'd do that myself anyway. Carrying it down steps? Taking it out of the box? Sure, let them do it.

Plus, I had some Best Buy coupons....not a lot ($50) but better than a stick in the eye. Plus, My son had bought me sort of Best Buy "membership" that offers better than advertised prices. Had been skeptical, but ended up saving another $100 less than advertised price, which was better than ALL the other sellers.

Oh yeah, it's an LG C4 OLED TV. Will be delivered tomorrow.

The Samsung S90D was the runner up. But, digging a little deeper, it seems the QC issues Samsung has had recently are not just isolated incidences.

Sony was 3rd runner up with their Bravia 8. I like Sony. But, not $500 more "like" than I liked the LG.
    https://youtu.be/ZNJx5D4qd9U?si=mmHvmKNFMWbQb1MC

    ————————————————-
When I was at Best Buy last week when I returned the Samsung that had the sound problem and got an education from the guru there he mentioned that I should consider getting the “membership” you mentioned. I’m pretty sure he said it costs $60 because it could save me a lot more than that in a year. I don’t usually buy that stuff but he said when buying a TV and soundbar at the same time it would more than pay for the membership price. He also mentioned that they have an app that saves you money (via credit back to your CC) if you bring a purchase to their attention if you bought at a higher price than what the app is saying. The app updates periodically. I think he said you have 30 days to bring it to their attention. I have to get more info on that but at first blush it seems to be worth the $60.

I’ve mentioned this before that I’m also interested in the LG C4 unit but I’m going with the 55 inch job due to space constraints.

    Good luck with yours.

@jmonroe1 …the sales guy wasn’t pushy about the membership. He just said the some of the stuff would be discounted more WITH the membership.

He said if I didn’t save at least $50 in a year (which I exceeded just with the TV), they would refund the $50.

Good way to keep you coming into the store, I suppose.

Subtract another 5% for putting it on my Best Buy card (~$70) which I'll pay off immediately.
    ————————————————
That’s a good price. Just for grins I just checked the price in the Pittsburgh area and the 65 inch is $1500 and the 55 inch (which is the one I want) is going for $1400, which is what you paid for your 65 inch unit. And I saw no mention about free delivery and set up.

Since I’m not in any hurry to get a TV, I plan on waiting a little bit to see if they’re going to have it on sale for the Super Bowl. Which I’ve heard is pretty typical at that time.

I like to window shop at Southpark Mall in Charlotte. My wife won't let me enter the Lego or Tag Heuer shops.

My first job when I moved to Charlotte in 1985 was working with First Federal S&L. They had a branch at Southpark Mall that I supported. It has always been Charlotte’s premier mall. The S&L was bought by another and then folded. Thankfully I was working at First Union by then. Seems like yesterday.

Yeah, why not? Great way to do your own oil changes, but you gotta keep good oil change documentation. B) And, at this time of the year a great way to spray the salt off of the underside of the car. You only need a hose and a hooded rain coat to do that. Both of those could be a good side gig when you retire, :/

the best thing about a lift would be easy access to deal with any corrosion and to do undercoating spray.

    ————————————————
I might be too late with this suggestion but if your house has the typical raised 6 panel doors, I’ve found that painting the inside edges of the panels with a brush then painting all of the flat surfaces and door edges with a small 4 inch roller saves a LOT of time and gives a perfect result.

Like I said, I hope I’m not too late with this comment.

    jmonroe
There are a lot of interior doors left to paint. I'll ask how she's doing it.

If you have that kind of ceiling height you’d be foolish not too. Something like that would be great for storing your summer fun car.

The people at the end of the block has one of those. Never talked to him about it but he does have a rather pricey vehicles above and below it so he must trust it.

Although I keep expecting to see a car sandwich there sometime.

Even in an earthquake scenario, if the BendPak is installed correctly, I'd fully expect the garage to come down before the lift does.
    And the Titanic was unsinkable.
The only earthquake in stickguy’s area in the last 75 years was so weak it barely rattled the doors.

I watched that. All I am short is Angel, Charlie, most of the tools, and a fork lift. I do have a wife with a bad knee, and a hand truck, so I should be all set?

If I were young and buying/building a house today, I think I’d seriously consider getting a garage with a high ceiling that could accommodate a lift. From what I see getting one and having it installed could easily be done for no more than 10 grand. That’s a small price to make working on the underside of a car almost enjoyable. Hell, folks spend twice that to upgrade a kitchen and don’t even know how to cook but it looks good.

@qbrozen, am I right about the total cost?

I am having a heck of a time remembering the total, and I can’t seem to find emails about it. Maybe we actually spoke on the phone, as crazy as that is. At the time, I had gotten a good deal on the lifts, at about $7k for the pair. I honestly think my total was $10k for the two 4-posts. I seem to remember thinking about $1k install each was a bargain. It took 2 guys a very long day to put them in.

The 2-post was considerably cheaper because I ordered that direct from China, picked it up at the port, and installed myself. I did put myself out of commission for a week when I pulled my back, though. But cash involved was roughly $1500, IIRC.

Oh, I almost forgot: it was an additional $2566 per garage door to change out the tracks and opener to lift them all the way to the ceiling.
