That GTI is likely to keep your mechanic busy and your wallet empty is my guess. I do like it though as a toy I don’t have to depend on but miles are probably steep for one of those. And I don’t like it in black.

I believe ‘07 was the year I had (?) but mine was 4-door. Only bad fault I was aware of on these is the cam follower. Only way I’d get one is to pull the pump and take a look at the cam. Very easy task. If the cam has no wear and the follower is still good, then it is just a matter of changing the follower every 30k or so, just to be safe. The other thing I recall is the subframe bolts getting loose. Another very easy fix with some thread lock and retorquing.

All that said, price isn’t where I’d want it. Here are the comps.

I saw a gorgeous Black/Black Porsche 968 Coupe on my way home tonight. Such an awesome and very under appreciated Porsche.

This 2011 Lexus ES350 caught my attention. It’s at a Hyundai dealer here in town.

Wow! A thousand bucks off if you finance? I can’t imagine what the interest rate is on the loan if they can afford to discount that much for borrowing from them.

Might be an easy way to get a cheaper price if there’s no prepayment penalty. Finance through them and then pay it off immediately.

When I bought my truck for a similar price I tossed out the option of financing as an incentive to meet my price but they seemed uninterested and rates were higher 15 months ago.
I didn't even see that. I'll go and check it out, decide what I think it is worth, and make an offer. I don't plan on financing a 13 year old car. If they don't like my offer, terms, or only want to do business a certain way then I'll move on.

I had an 06 Passat 2.0T with the same engine as the GTI. The cam follower was just one of many issues. Carbon build up and oil burning also were common. When I sold my 06 Passat, it had 59k, frequent check engine lights, used a quart of expensive synthetic every 700 miles. Beautiful, great driving car, but a garage queen. It had the upgraded Dynaudio sound system that was truly awesome.

That DarCars Lexus dealer in Conn. is where I purchased my 2024 Toyota Crown. The additional fees were: (from the salesman's email) "$995 CT doc fee, $830 dealer fee, $400 registration fee, + tax". I agreed to half of that but still over $1k added to internet price but I was ok with it as there weren't many of the used Platinum models avaiilable near me and Greenwich is only an hour away. Still happy with the Crown and am getting around 32MPG combined which is pretty good for 340HP hybrid power train. I have not seen another on the road in the 3 months I have owned it.

The only changes I would like to see in the car are:
    1. More interesting interior with either wood or more metallic elements and not all black.
    2. About 2 inches more width. It is only 72.4" wide the same as the Camry.
    3. A bit more rubber between the 21" rims and the road. (although with the automatic dampers the ride is
    surprisingly quite good)
    4. About 50 more HP

All that matters is the total. If the dealer in MT Kisco is asking $2K more, then it's a wash.

IIRC correctly fabric ones are not included either. So it comes with nothing. I forget the exact pricing but I think you could get the fabrics, or for slightly more the all seasons, and some additional money get both. I had no need for the cloth ones since I never use those.

OK, I just checked. you can get floor liners and carpet mats for $175, or just liners for $135. No option of just carpet mats. Isn't $135 less than weathertechs now?

edit: I checked that too. Weathertechs are $202 now.

Caddy is going all electric except for the two performance cars which are nearing the end of their run. Strangely, the XT5 is still alive despite being the oldest of the ICE SUVs. I guess it is still popular.

The Optiq is Blazer-sized and perhaps not a direct replacement for the large XT6 but it looks good and seems to work well. Motormouth seldom give a critical review but they liked this.

A big dealer might let you just take it. You can ask if they will do it but on a cheaper car they may not be bothered with it. I assume they will happily share whatever internal inspection they did.

Had my first experience with service on the Cayman

    Brake fluid flush: $189
    Oil change (8 qts): $165

    New tires: $1275 + $136 mount/balance/install/disposal fee
    New HVAC buttons: $60 + $195 labor.

First service since I got it, two years ago. The only other cost has been a new headliner, shortly after I got it ($700)

In order from smallest to largest, Caddy has the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq and Escalade IQ. They also have the halo car Celestiq ($250k).

I’ve become a big fan of their EVs. We’ll see if I end up with one. Drove the Acura version of the Lyriq last weekend…I still like the Caddy but the lease deals on the Acura are nuts.

Only $84/mo to keep it on the road - not too bad for a Porsche, I'd say.

And, after driving the Cayman that the lovely Mrs. @breld owns, it's a fun car.

@pensfan83 So sorry for your loss, it is the deepest of sorrows. I've oft repeated what our vet told us when our beloved Lab, Alex, left us suddenly and too early many years ago, "Know that you gave Teddy the life that dogs dream of."

Our current, Harry, is ~15.5 years old, just passed his annual doggie tune-up and still appears spry. He's become a sprinter, though, not a marathoner. Folks can't believe he's that old, other than much gray appearing. I'm a wreck just thinking about the inevitable...

Based on what a few mechanics have told me over the years, I will disagree with you but none could say how long and this was before the extensive use of synthetics. Since most every chemical has a shelf life, especially once it’s used. If I had to put a number on time, I’d have to say 2 years just to be safe and that’s with low miles similar to what you had.

All that being said, I’d like to hear what oil companies say about this but I’m sure they’ll have many qualifiers like: condition of engine, type of oil (dino vs. synthetic), environment during use (humid, dusty), aggressive driving vs, getting groceries, etc. etc.

It is weird how they did it. The XT6 is about 6” longer than the Acadia but shorter than the Enclave/Traverse

Why would they have introduced a third size of SUV?

Having said all that the Sport trim is very nice.

Thanks. I hate that Cadillac isn't going to have a ICE or hybrid SUV option. I was hoping to consider the XT6 and Aviator to replace the JGC in a couple of years. Looking for more luxury in the next one without having to spend German money.

Today I read that the XT6 is done after this model year. To be replaced by a full electric.

I’m too lazy to look it up but they already have an electric XT6. Optiq I think is the name.

The Optiq is more of the size of the XT5. I think if they put the V-6 in it and called it the remodeled XT5 it would sell like hotcakes. In the forums there are many owners who would have happily purchased a new refreshed one. Many have gone elsewhere just like previous GM large sedan owners (Impala & Lacrosse). The wife's 2018 Lacrosse was a great car and I would have bought a new version if it wasn't discontinued. I wound up with the Crown but in many ways it is not as nice as the Buick.
