@28firefighter - the GLI door badge also stuck out to me. I'd consider debadging the doors and just leaving the badges on the grille and decklid. Or is this a lease?

Congrats on the new car. For years the Korean's have copied German designs.

I bought it. The lease made no sense. I might debadge it and then decide.

new X3 is pretty fancy. Makes the Acura look like a dinosaur. And it will tow 4,000#s! Everybody should be towing around a utility trailer with their $60k BMW.

wonder how that compares to a Mecan? Probably a bit cheaper and a lot roomier.

And exponentially uglier- inside and out, unless you dig the interior's strip mall vape store vibe.

Initial impressions on the GLI. I ended up putting about 100 miles on it running errands today, some play dates, and a kid baseball game. Not exactly how I intended to spend my memorial day, but alas.

Exterior: I really like the look of the car - the color combo is unique and I love the black roof/mirror caps and wheels. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I like the backend especially. It just looks more upscale. Weirdly, I don't love the GLI fender badges and wish they would have put the legacy type on - I might order those anyway. Of course it "needz tintz" - lots of visibility also means its like driving in a fishbowl.

Interior: I remember when the GLI first came out, it was panned for how much plastic it had. I feel like they've done a nice job sprucing it up. Everything feels soft where I can reach, its bolted tight - no rattles at all. Seats are super comfortable and very adjustable and I like the gray/black two-tone interior. They're also heated and cooled as is the steering wheel. The Beats Audio is whatever - could take it or leave it. My biggest gripe here is the infotainment. It is excellent in terms of brightness, resolution, responsiveness, etc. but it is absolutely too small relative to its competitors. Then, to make it fit a bigger space, they just put it in a huge black bezel, when they could have easily filled it out more. The fact it works so well is the saving grace.

Performance: Let's start off with the obvious. It is much MUCH quieter than the WRX - even quieter than a stock WRX. It still has some rumble to it and especially when get on the throttle, it certainly sounds alive and aggressive. I'd like a bit more to it, but I think anything more would've maintained the marital strife that got us here in the first place. The engine and transmission are phenomenal - gearbox is like butter, clutch is light and easy to figure out, and the engine has gobs of power. It never seems to run out of power. It feels much faster than the numbers let on. I also love the Dynamic Dampers - very nice feature to have.

I am going to miss the WRX - a lot more raw. But in the scheme of things, this worked out great. I'm very happy.

Congratulations; the STI exhaust can't be much -if any louder than the AMG Performance Exhaust. A friend who bought another C43 says his wife complained. My bride had always wanted to try a Mercedes and she loves the car so much she lets the rumbles and pops slide.

What your car has, I think, is the adjustable exhaust valve. So you can turn it up or down as you see fit. If the WRX had that, it’d have been fine.

    Anyway. Done deal.

Must be something to genetics. Our son and wife brought the granddaughter for her first visit (a practice road trip!). When they were leaving it came up that he had a “plan” to get her a minivan to haul the family around and he would get a fun car. DILs comment was it started as a scheme for down the line when they had more kids but apparently he would do it now. Which given the expense of a kid, wanting to upgrade to a bigger house, and relative newness of their current cars seems implausible.

I guess he never got over trading his S4 for a Telluride (she has a fairly new CRV hybrid which is very nice).

I just don’t know where he comes up with crazy ideas like this! Other than the minivan + a 2nd car that was fun of some sort for me was what we did from when our 2nd was born until the baby was driving!

    Indeed. Totally inexplicable. :open_mouth:

BTW, @kyfdx and @Kirstie_H , I know I reported this before and you responded that you were unable to duplicate the behavior, but now that I am posting here mostly on the iPad using Safari, this has become the norm. Whenever I try to use one of the emojis that (I presume) Vanilla allows in the formatting bar above the text box, it inserts it as the very first thing in the box, ahead of any quoted or typed text. I always need to put it in the correct location manually. The one above just did it again. It should not be hard to duplicate.

Isn’t debadging what the kids do along with blacked out lights and loud exhausts as if to say “look at me and try to figure out what I’m driving”?

Found a rougher looking 318ti, by comparison to @roadburner’s. Can’t tell from the glare whether it has a hole in the roof (I think these had solid steel panels). In an objective sense, there are a lot of 30-ish year old cars on the road that look a lot worse.

Checked out the Toyota version today. Obviously no perceptible difference in the drive, so if I do choose to pull the trigger I have to decide on the subtle design differences and the color.

I once preferred the duckbill spoiler on the GR86 but now may prefer the more subtle treatment on the Subaru.

    Just get a Supra.

    Oh…wait…

See, my wife doesn’t let me get away with that stuff. Like when I mentioned an AWD Charger R/T as a daily, she exclaimed “you just got rid of a Charger!” She didn’t care to hear that we’re talking AWD daily vs special edition garage queen. She just don’t get it.

That’s the thing with @breld is that not only does his wife “get it,” but she’s got the itch just as bad or worse than he does.

@breld - you have driven both the BRZ and the GR86. I’m sure the differences are minimal, so it boils down to available color choice and where you can get the better discount from. Cool cars for sure. Lightweight, RWD, LSD, 6-Speed Stick, & they hold their value very well… Let us know after you pick it up!

Camry shopping is going. So far the best offer is from my local dealer at 6% off of an incoming Ice Cap/Black LE AWD. Another dealer about 1 1/2 away from me in CT said $1,000 off sticker is the best they can do then add in their $699 dealer fee of course, making their net price about $300 off sticker. I’m going to reach out to some more CT dealers tomorrow and some NY dealers as well. Only bad part is that I can’t do MSD for NY dealers.

Part of where I’m hoping to do well is with my Tacoma. It needs a little TLC in order to show nicely to carmax or a dealer. My son caused some damage to the rear bumper caps. I looked on YouTube and it seems like these come off and are easy to replace (famous last words, I know). I ordered a new set from Tacoma Lifestlye that are painted to match. Here is the before picture:
