    Nooooooooooo!😩

Is your state a mandatory insurance state like NY and others? Did you get any information or did they take off? I feel your pain having gotten bit by an uninsured motorist recently. At least none of my cars got hit.

He was in a ‘94 Camaro making a left turn to go the opposite direction from me. He peeled out going way to fast on bald tires, got up to 25-30 and lost control, spun around twice and jumped the median into me. GLI took the hit like an absolute champ.

No insurance, but to his credit he stuck around and took his licks. Cited for reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, and failure to insure. I submitted a claim to Safeco because I’m expecting this is gonna be a solid 3-4K+ of damage between the rear door, rear quarter panel, and bumper cover.

Yep. And because I was in front of and behind someone, there was nothing to do except some choice swear words as I realized he wasn’t going to correct it in time to avoid the accident.

Unfortunately this is not a PDR and paint situation. The rear quarter panel is way more pushed in than it looks.

If you have UMPD coverage (not offered in my state, to my knowledge--we just have comprehensive and collision; UM and UIM is only for bodily injury claims), you may be able to recover diminished value from your own carrier.

I have UMPD here, thank goodness. And I distinctly remember the conversation I had with the agent for this very reason.

Assuming his damage was moderate he was probably back on the road an hour later. Thanks NY.
Many years ago a good HS friend of mine was waiting between 2 parallel parked cars to cross the street in Patchogue, NY and an uninsured driver lost control, hit one of the cars resulting in the loss of one of his legs. His medical bills were paid but there was no one to sue for compensation for a hard working man with family and kids having to live the rest of his life with only one leg.
He was a Master spackler by trade and after being fitted with a prosthetic leg he went back to work and told me the younger guys still couldn't keep up with him.

I had a woman who worked for me have a very similar thing happen at the Philly airport. Out of control cab driver plowed right into her while she was standing on the curb. No loss of limb but many broken bones and other injuries. She nearly died. Luckily he was insured and her medical care as well as a very substantial payment eventually came her way. She was out of work for over six months.

Doubt it will be $8K. I got hit in the same area back in 2018 but the metal under the rear door was cut open plus it needed a new back door plus other issues and mine was just over $8K. I can still hear slight traffic noise from the rear door. Don't think yours will be as bad. Good thing is no one was hurt as a vehicle can be fixed. Just a shame that it happened & the jerk had no insurance. There really needs to be harsher consequences for folks like this!!

I share your outrage but usually uninsured deadbeats have no assets worth chasing. I’ve mentioned two cases personally where that would be futile. One fled the state before I could enforce the judgement, the other might flee the country. Frustrating, I know but some people are just judgement proof.

When you look at the numbers, most of us went to inferior medical schools. - although mine is the largest MD program in the US. Surprisingly , Harvard turns out mainly primary care. Now that there are more women going to medical school, primary care is more popular. Good to see some female orthopedic surgeons and other specialist surgeons too.

Yes, I would discount the opinion of the hanging judge in this case. B)

I mean this idiot was driving a '94 Camaro. Young guys with 30 year-old beaters seldom are sitting on big piles of cash or much in the way of attachable assets. Peeling out of an intersection and immediately losing traction on bald tires is further testimony not only to his poor judgement but also to the probability of his lack of assets.

A few years ago I was waiting in a stationary toll booth lane when my car was jostled by something from the rear. Some bozo in a pickup truck in the adjacent lane decided he wanted the space I was occupying and ran into me in a similar spot. In truth his face was likely buried in his damn phone. It was almost $3000 in worthless Canadian dollars for much less damage. Awful feeling when your car is pristine and that happens.
