However, I suggest you decide what you want, keeping in mind the difference of the g35 and something like the Lexus. Looking at the heritage of the g35, it's clearly, CLEARLY a sports car with luxury added. Looking at the heritage of the IS350, it's obviously a luxury sedan with performance added. So it really depends, imo, what you're after out of your vehicle. I wanted a sports car with 4 doors, a really nice interior and lots of gadgets and gizmos to keep the techy in me happy. That's what I got in the G35-6MT and I'm really happy.
As to vibration? If there's anything there I didn't notice it. That said, there IS feedback through the shifter. I've never driven a manual that didn't give road feel through the shifter though. Not a 911, not my 71 VW Bug.

I can honestly say I am very happy with the G35 "noise" level - cruising down the hwy at 80mph it is still very quiet (to me) and more then acceptable.
kc
I know others can't say the same. There was an issue with some models having loose rubber trim on the doors... maybe that should be checked out.
I also had an SHO... but before they started to look like Mr Limpet the fish.
I had a 94... loved it!
Too bad it passed everything but a repair shop. Stupid thing nearly bankrupt me!!!
I ended up selling the SHO online to another mechanic who had a replacement transmission. I got all my paperwork out and added up the costs over the 4.5 years I had it >>>
In other good news, I passed 1200 miles today w00t w00t break-in period over!!
kc
They say to keep it under 4,000 rpms until then.
Someone should have told the car that!!!
It drives itself, and doesn't want anything to do with staying below 4,000! :surprise:
We did test drive the Lexus when shopping, and it was too "like my dad's car" for my wife! (just gotta love her!!). I thought the G was much quieter than the Avalon, Maxima, or Accord and I thought it was comparable to the Acura TL if not a bit more responsive (I thought the TL had a lousy turning radius) and powerful.
Nuff said, just my 2 cents.
Has anyone heard Nissan's position on this? I called this AM, but the line is not up on the weekends, but i plan to call Monday. I also noted in the Manual that Canada have the richer command set. How inane to disclose to US owners that they have a less valuable product.
I think we have a case of misrepresentation. Test drive a car with the expanded features, then take delivery of one with important features missing!
Love to hear from all.
I do plan to call CA on Monday. If enough of us complain, perhaps it will be easy for them to firmware fix the problem. Did you see that Canada's Ms have the complete set per the Owners Manual!?
Honestly, the main issue with the G35 and noise is the exhaust note, and the short, short gearing. 75 mph cruising in top gear (automatic) takes place over 3000 engine rpm. It's not overly loud or intrusive, but it's louder than it really has to be if there were a proper overdrive gear.
Acceleration in the G35 is not going to be a quiet exercise; this is not a Lexus. The engine loves to rev, and you always know it's there. I personally prefer this, but ultimately, it depends on your preferences.
I've only got two issues with this car:
1. lack of overdrive gear, which leads to terrible highway fuel mileage (21 mpg is the best I've managed). This car could get 25 mpg highway with a taller overdrive, easily.
2. sometimes clunky power train on throttle lift and re-engage at certain speeds. The engine decompresses and clunks into deceleration, then clunks back into acceleration when you re-engage the throttle. And it doesn't really seem to matter how gently you make the transition. Maybe it's something unique to my car, but in heavy traffic at 45-55 mph it can get old quickly.
Actually, I would love to hear from others on this last issue. 2008 G35x, which comes with the autobox. Clunky power train on throttle lift and re-engage.
Thanks

As stated in an earlier post, in my 08 QX aquired in October I am able to set temp ( "Temperature 74") set presets ( Preset c1) tune ( tune 98.1) plus many others. In my 08 M45 acquired in early December I can do none of these in either command mode.
Still awaiting reply after 3 weeks from dealer ( working on it) or Infiniti consumer affairs ( first we've heard of this).
Sounds like you haven't bought yet. Put the squeeze on the dealer to get us some answers! >)

Thanks. I qas pretty sure that ALL of those commands are available in ALTERNATE mode according to the online manual. It will be the first thing I try tonight (if I buy).

Here is the link I was using:
link title
It says it is for AFTER a certain VIN. But I see there is a separate section for Canada (on 4-119) that shows all commands. On the US side, there is a separate section for ALTERNATE commands. Canada doesn't have that, they have one command set.

1. All the new Infiniti owners should complain. They will have to take action then.
2. Does anyone know the contact info for Infiniti corporate? ICA cannot seem to be able to take care of this "class action" issue.
All of the previous commands are NOT available in the alternate command mode. Check out post # 141 where I outlined the entire service bulletin from Nissan. I hope that clears it up.
Thanks for cleaning that up. It's confusing, because the online manual says that those commands (specifically) ARE available. If I end up buying (they are only offering me $11k for my trade-in, a 2002 BMW 530i w/86k and that's LOW), I will make sure that I check it out immediately. And I will call Infiniti if everything that is in the online manual is not working properly. Thanks again!
Jeff
Unless you're able to find an '07 somewhere, you definitely won't get the additional commands.
I do wish I had them, but don't get me wrong, I love my G. And the fact that those commands are missing would not keep me from buying it. I'm sure almost everyone here would second my opinion.
With all of the tech stuff in this car, can someone point me to online resources, besides the Infiniti manual, that might help me learn about these features? And if you have questions about the tech stuff, who do you call? Your local service shop? Or some national Infiniti number? (I am not talking about complaints that would go to CA, but just tech support questions).
Thanks!

There is plenty of information on all three sites.
I have an 07 G35x and although the AWD system in this car is incredible, the all-season tires on the car are not quite up to snuff for the white stuff.
If you have an easy or short commute, I think you'll be fine.
I, on the other hand, have a 1 hour drive each way, and I live on the top of a hill.... and a driveway which makes Mt Everest loom easy to climb.
I noticed that even before the snow started.... just the roads being cold and wet, the VDC light was blinking a lot, telling me that the tires were losing grip. (I'm what you would call a spirited driver)
I went through tirerack.com and got a set of Blizzak WS-50's on 5-spoke aluminum rims for $800-. They look good too!
I just checked tirerack and the Blizzaks are now sold out for the season, but they do have other packages still available.
The difference between the stock tires and the snow tires and night and day. The car is an absolute tank now! I've climbed my super steep driveway in 6 inches of snow. Funny too... it looks like a sled went down the driveway, with the underside of our cars being all covered.
To answer your question... if you have a real commute of more than just a few miles, I suggest winter tires.
Thanks...I was almost afraidof that. i was hoping that getting an AWD car would mean my days of the snow tire shuffle were over. I have a 70 mile commute (round trip) and will have to consider them. I owned Blizzaks for my BMW, but they really need them desperately. Thanks again for the advice!
Jeff
Awesome...thanks so much!
Jeff
Also, that saves us some $$$ on summer tires, being that we have them stacked in the garage for 4-5 months a year.

I have pics of my setup with the winter wheels in the tire and wheels section.
Infiniti Voice Recognition for climate control, audio, information and navigation systems
Sounds like deceptive advertising!
Re deceptive advertising...there are commands for eg, audio, but it's basically on/ off toggle! Can't voice "preset C4", tune 98.1"
Given the switch Nissan made on later VIN vehicles, it's very unlikely you will find one that has the full command set. I'm not sure where you have seen anything to support the full set in the US, but I know my M45 does not have them even with ACM enabled.
My dealer confirmed this when I brought it in, so they are trying to figure out why commands are not available in ACM as it makes sense that Infiniti was trying to do the right thing and provide an option for owners who were able to use the expanded set without recognition issues I'm presuming others complained about. In my QX, where the commands are enabled ( an early VIN) I very much enjoy the full set.
Jeff
Good luck with the new ride! BMWs with RWD are notorious with traction issues in the snow. My friend got rid of his 2006 530i for the M35x. He is much happier with the Infiniti. Don't know how a BMW Xi compares to an Infiniti X, but you probably save at least $10K going with the Infiniti.
Cheers!
There may be some of those "first edition" '08s still on dealer lots, but I'm sure most will have been sold by now. You could have the dealer do a search in your area for the particular car you'd want and go through the listed vehicles checking their VIN (the VIN is listed on the search system Infiniti uses). Long shot but might be worth it to you

Are you moving when trying to scroll through the settings? The system has a safety feature which prevents you from scrolling while in motion.
