I just made a deal on 2008 G35x without Premium package. Two things I would like to add is Bluetooth connection and XM radio. Can I discuss with dealership to install it before I pick up the car or it is better to do it with a third party?
I am considering the G35,but have read in some car mags that it isnt as refined as some in its class due to noise a dn vibration. To those who own the car do you see this as true? i beleive the test cars were MT and I dont know if the comments were limited to g35 with MT or not.Thank you.
I own an 07 6MT and I can tell you that there's no doubt about it, it's louder than the IS350 and the A4 internally. How much of it is the tire choice and how much of it is the car, I don't know. Others have reported (see the tire thread, iirc) that different tires improved road noise significantly.
However, I suggest you decide what you want, keeping in mind the difference of the g35 and something like the Lexus. Looking at the heritage of the g35, it's clearly, CLEARLY a sports car with luxury added. Looking at the heritage of the IS350, it's obviously a luxury sedan with performance added. So it really depends, imo, what you're after out of your vehicle. I wanted a sports car with 4 doors, a really nice interior and lots of gadgets and gizmos to keep the techy in me happy. That's what I got in the G35-6MT and I'm really happy.
As to vibration? If there's anything there I didn't notice it. That said, there IS feedback through the shifter. I've never driven a manual that didn't give road feel through the shifter though. Not a 911, not my 71 VW Bug.
Check out the test data on interior noise. My experience has been it's only truly loud under hard throttle....but I if I'm bumping over 7,000 rpms...I enjoy hearing the engine ! ! ! Side note is the TL-S has active noise cancellation and Lexuses are Lexuses...quiet inside.
I have the auto-transmission G35 Sport, and I can honestly say it's much quieter than both my previous cars, a Ford Taurus SHO (v8) and a Honda S2000 Of course, I was never concerned about noise in the S2K and the Taurus was 10 years old. The Taurus had so much window noise the wife stopped driving it...
I can honestly say I am very happy with the G35 "noise" level - cruising down the hwy at 80mph it is still very quiet (to me) and more then acceptable.
I agree... mine is super quiet. I know others can't say the same. There was an issue with some models having loose rubber trim on the doors... maybe that should be checked out.
I also had an SHO... but before they started to look like Mr Limpet the fish. I had a 94... loved it! Too bad it passed everything but a repair shop. Stupid thing nearly bankrupt me!!!
Ha! That's my trusty reliable SHO (deep, deep sarcasm). The car was fun to drive (even with the fish face LOL) but it couldn't go 2 months without visiting the dealer/stealer. It finally lost it's transmission (with only 86k on it) about a mile from my house and I said 'enuff! Now I have the G35
I ended up selling the SHO online to another mechanic who had a replacement transmission. I got all my paperwork out and added up the costs over the 4.5 years I had it >>> just over $5K! (regular maintenance and repairs combined)
In other good news, I passed 1200 miles today w00t w00t break-in period over!!
OK, I may have little to compare as the G35x replaced a Volvo S70 that was 10 years old (the G is my wifes car) and I drive a 2000 Corvette convertible or a 1994 4Runner. The Vette is brute power with a modest V-8 rumble and being a convertible with aggressive tires (pilot sport run flats) is not a very quiet car. The SUV is a 13 year old truck. So to me, the G35 is smooth, has sneaky power (not as brute force as the Vette) and is very comfortable & quiet. I do not even have to blast the stereo to hear my music!!
We did test drive the Lexus when shopping, and it was too "like my dad's car" for my wife! (just gotta love her!!). I thought the G was much quieter than the Avalon, Maxima, or Accord and I thought it was comparable to the Acura TL if not a bit more responsive (I thought the TL had a lousy turning radius) and powerful.
This is a hot issue. I'm an M owner 2008 as well a a QX owner and the Ms reduced commands take away one of the reasons I selected the M over Lexus GS460...having compatible voice recognition is important! Has anyone heard Nissan's position on this? I called this AM, but the line is not up on the weekends, but i plan to call Monday. I also noted in the Manual that Canada have the richer command set. How inane to disclose to US owners that they have a less valuable product. I think we have a case of misrepresentation. Test drive a car with the expanded features, then take delivery of one with important features missing! Love to hear from all.
Thanks for the most useful post. I did not see the "2008 Voice Recognition supplement located on the Infiniti website." http://www.infiniti.com/iapps/techpubs
I do plan to call CA on Monday. If enough of us complain, perhaps it will be easy for them to firmware fix the problem. Did you see that Canada's Ms have the complete set per the Owners Manual!?
My previous car was a Subaru Legacy GT, and my wife's car is a Volvo V50. Compared to either car, vibration in the G35 is much less of an issue. Road noise is probably less as well, although neither of the other cars had excessive road noise either. Subaru window seals are never particularly good (due to lack of window frames) and the Volvo seems to have a seal problem at 80 mph and above as well on the driver's side door. The G35 seems to have better seals than either. BMW's inline 6 might be smoother at high rpms, but only slightly, and the rest of the time I honestly can't detect more vibration from my G than from BMWs I have driven.
Honestly, the main issue with the G35 and noise is the exhaust note, and the short, short gearing. 75 mph cruising in top gear (automatic) takes place over 3000 engine rpm. It's not overly loud or intrusive, but it's louder than it really has to be if there were a proper overdrive gear.
Acceleration in the G35 is not going to be a quiet exercise; this is not a Lexus. The engine loves to rev, and you always know it's there. I personally prefer this, but ultimately, it depends on your preferences.
I've only got two issues with this car:
1. lack of overdrive gear, which leads to terrible highway fuel mileage (21 mpg is the best I've managed). This car could get 25 mpg highway with a taller overdrive, easily. 2. sometimes clunky power train on throttle lift and re-engage at certain speeds. The engine decompresses and clunks into deceleration, then clunks back into acceleration when you re-engage the throttle. And it doesn't really seem to matter how gently you make the transition. Maybe it's something unique to my car, but in heavy traffic at 45-55 mph it can get old quickly.
Actually, I would love to hear from others on this last issue. 2008 G35x, which comes with the autobox. Clunky power train on throttle lift and re-engage.
I posted this in the Navigation forum too, but it isn't read as frequently as this one. I just bought a new 2008 g35x with tech, nav and prem packages. The navigation system keeps turning the map while i'm driving or sitting in traffic in one location. Sometimes, it will turn the map so much that it shows my position as perpendicular to the road that i'm on and thinks i'm travelling off road. after a few minutes it places me back on the road in the correct direction, but will begin to turn again. this happens repeatedly and i was wondering if this is normal, or whether something is wrong. is there a simple way to reset the navigation or have it check my location that might fix this, or is it a dealer fix issue?
When I put the regular Audio CDs in the indash CD drive it will RIP the CD to hard drive if I click REC button on the screen. However, I already have several MP3 songs collection. What is the fastest way to copy that collection to cars MediaBox Hard Drive?
We recently leased a 2008 G35X. Reallly happy with it but I wondered if anyone has the same problem I am having. Since the buttons on the remote are not recessed, I am constantly setting off the panic alarm. Is there anything you can do about that like disabling the panic alarm? Very easy to press the buttons unintentionally. Any ideas?
What am I missing? The new G35's have 2 modes, but they didn't take away any commands...they just put them into the ALTERNATE mode, right? That's what it looks like in the online manual. You can still set the temp or radio station with your voice commands according the the later-build manual. What am I missing? Thanks for straightening me out!
Yes, Jeff, most confusing situation re Owners Manual. Did the online version also show that the 08 Canadian Version has ALL the commands! As stated in an earlier post, in my 08 QX aquired in October I am able to set temp ( "Temperature 74") set presets ( Preset c1) tune ( tune 98.1) plus many others. In my 08 M45 acquired in early December I can do none of these in either command mode. Still awaiting reply after 3 weeks from dealer ( working on it) or Infiniti consumer affairs ( first we've heard of this). Sounds like you haven't bought yet. Put the squeeze on the dealer to get us some answers! >) John
Thanks. I qas pretty sure that ALL of those commands are available in ALTERNATE mode according to the online manual. It will be the first thing I try tonight (if I buy).
I am looking into buying a G35x and am wondering how the stock tires are. I live in Northern NJ and am used to needing snow tires (currently driving a 2002 BMW 530i), but don't know if the AWD aspect of this car makes them unnecessary. I would love to hear frmo fellow Northerners as to their experiences with this car. Thanks!
Glad to help Jeff. Let me know what you learn tonight. Have you the link to the online manual you are seeing? RU sgue you were not looking at the features in the Canadian version?
It says it is for AFTER a certain VIN. But I see there is a separate section for Canada (on 4-119) that shows all commands. On the US side, there is a separate section for ALTERNATE commands. Canada doesn't have that, they have one command set.
I'm the owner of a 08 Accord EX-L. I love it for the money and fuel economy. But, I just hopped over to this forum to say how impressed I am with those G35's. A new 08 parked next to my Accord this weekend and I had the chance to give them a direct compare. No comparison! The exterior styling of that G35 is so sweet -- muscular, but classy, and so VERY cohesive! The car just flows so nicely from tip to tail - you study the nose and know exactly what the tail will look like. You note the headlights and find the rear view mirrors and door handles to be so wonderfully consistent. My Accord looks like a chopped up mess in comparison. I'm not sure I wish I'd purchased a G35 -- but I will give it kudos for being one fine looking auto!!
Any news from Infiniti Consumer Affairs? I have also complained. They are ignorant of this issue.
1. All the new Infiniti owners should complain. They will have to take action then. 2. Does anyone know the contact info for Infiniti corporate? ICA cannot seem to be able to take care of this "class action" issue.
Again, what would we complain about? Aren't the commands still available in the alternate mode? That's what the online manual says. I get the feeling that I am missing somehting....
All of the previous commands are NOT available in the alternate command mode. Check out post # 141 where I outlined the entire service bulletin from Nissan. I hope that clears it up.
Thanks for cleaning that up. It's confusing, because the online manual says that those commands (specifically) ARE available. If I end up buying (they are only offering me $11k for my trade-in, a 2002 BMW 530i w/86k and that's LOW), I will make sure that I check it out immediately. And I will call Infiniti if everything that is in the online manual is not working properly. Thanks again!
Unless you're able to find an '07 somewhere, you definitely won't get the additional commands.
I do wish I had them, but don't get me wrong, I love my G. And the fact that those commands are missing would not keep me from buying it. I'm sure almost everyone here would second my opinion.
..and I wouldn't want an '07 because the '08 is the first year with the iPod controller, which I will certainly use a lot (despite the hard drive).
With all of the tech stuff in this car, can someone point me to online resources, besides the Infiniti manual, that might help me learn about these features? And if you have questions about the tech stuff, who do you call? Your local service shop? Or some national Infiniti number? (I am not talking about complaints that would go to CA, but just tech support questions).
I have an 07 G35x and although the AWD system in this car is incredible, the all-season tires on the car are not quite up to snuff for the white stuff. If you have an easy or short commute, I think you'll be fine. I, on the other hand, have a 1 hour drive each way, and I live on the top of a hill.... and a driveway which makes Mt Everest loom easy to climb.
I noticed that even before the snow started.... just the roads being cold and wet, the VDC light was blinking a lot, telling me that the tires were losing grip. (I'm what you would call a spirited driver) I went through tirerack.com and got a set of Blizzak WS-50's on 5-spoke aluminum rims for $800-. They look good too! I just checked tirerack and the Blizzaks are now sold out for the season, but they do have other packages still available. The difference between the stock tires and the snow tires and night and day. The car is an absolute tank now! I've climbed my super steep driveway in 6 inches of snow. Funny too... it looks like a sled went down the driveway, with the underside of our cars being all covered.
To answer your question... if you have a real commute of more than just a few miles, I suggest winter tires.
Thanks...I was almost afraidof that. i was hoping that getting an AWD car would mean my days of the snow tire shuffle were over. I have a 70 mile commute (round trip) and will have to consider them. I owned Blizzaks for my BMW, but they really need them desperately. Thanks again for the advice!
I know the tire shuffle stinks, but I went with dedicated wheels and it makes it fairly easy. Also, that saves us some $$$ on summer tires, being that we have them stacked in the garage for 4-5 months a year. They look pretty good... for winter tires. ">link title

Jeff, good chatting with you and best of luck whatever route you choose. Re deceptive advertising...there are commands for eg, audio, but it's basically on/ off toggle! Can't voice "preset C4", tune 98.1" Given the switch Nissan made on later VIN vehicles, it's very unlikely you will find one that has the full command set. I'm not sure where you have seen anything to support the full set in the US, but I know my M45 does not have them even with ACM enabled.
My dealer confirmed this when I brought it in, so they are trying to figure out why commands are not available in ACM as it makes sense that Infiniti was trying to do the right thing and provide an option for owners who were able to use the expanded set without recognition issues I'm presuming others complained about. In my QX, where the commands are enabled ( an early VIN) I very much enjoy the full set.
in the navigation manual, it shows a screen where you can set a destination by voice tag, or direct dial a voice tag from the phonebook. i don't see that in my 2008 g35 w prem/nav. tried both standard and alternate command mode. any ideas?
I just picked up my G35X Sport 2 weeks ago. I opted to buy a set of tires and wheels from TireRack. I think for the extra bucks, it's relatively cheap insurance. It's not a waste since you're spreading the mileage over 2 sets of tires. You've just got to find room for storage. I got the $99 Sport Edition CD 17" rims with the downsized 215/55-17 Dunlop SP Wintersport M3s. Most of the selection of winter treads are running low along with rims. These rims weren't my first choice, but I'm not about to spend big bucks for a set of rims that will be exposed to salt. I expect that the car will be able to take on any snow now. The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1s that came on Sports Package look OK, but the tread doesn't look like it would compare to the M3 tread or Blizzak tread. I'm in Northern Bergen county as well and picked up my car from Anthony Grant of Pepe Infiniti across the bridge in White Plains. Still breaking in the engine with under 200 miles on the ODO.
Thanks bg. I am picking up my car tomorrow night.I am down in Englewood and bought at Infiniti of Englewood. It's only a mile from my house, so it's very convenient. I actually bought a G20 from them 15 years ago! Bought there is no one there anymore from those days. Hopefully, their service is still as good as it was back then.
I am about to pick up a G35x on a 2 yr/15,000 mi/yr lease. Can someone tell me about how much I can expect to pay in scheduled maintenance costs? They have a package that they offer to buy that will cover all scheduled maintenance. Is it worth it? (I expect to put on between 30,000 and 33,000 miles). Thanks again!
Good luck with the new ride! BMWs with RWD are notorious with traction issues in the snow. My friend got rid of his 2006 530i for the M35x. He is much happier with the Infiniti. Don't know how a BMW Xi compares to an Infiniti X, but you probably save at least $10K going with the Infiniti.
You could possibly find an '08 G35 with the full voice command set, but it would have to be one of the first '08s built. My 2008 G35 was built about 600 units prior to that switchover (according to the VIN # in the notice) and it definitely has all the commands (plus the iPod controller and rear-view camera). I ordered mine back in September 2007 and it was on the boat in-transit at the time for an October delivery.
There may be some of those "first edition" '08s still on dealer lots, but I'm sure most will have been sold by now. You could have the dealer do a search in your area for the particular car you'd want and go through the listed vehicles checking their VIN (the VIN is listed on the search system Infiniti uses). Long shot but might be worth it to you Good luck!
When I go into SETTINGS, I often see that there are a lot more settings that I see on the first page. For example, In NAVIGATION SETTINGS, the first option says 1/16. I click the wheel to move down one and it says 2/16. But I can't get further than 6/16. I can't figure out how to page down. Turning the wheel beings me back up to 1/16! Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks!!!
I don't believe so, but I will try it while in Park. Byt I know that I can move thru the first page of settings one by one, I just can't get to the 2nd page.
