Part of the perceived problems with the G35 stereo is that it attempts to faithfully recreate source material with less coloring than many other systems. The use of 24-bit/96kHz Burr-Brown DACs and placement of full range speaker sets in the doors all attempt to meet a wide variety of music styles and listening preferences. Although the temptation is to set the bass and treble up all the way, I would suggest keeping them halfway between full and half and listen that way for a while. We have become so used to over boosted bass and treble and ipod ear buds that when we hear something that may be closer to what the artist intended, it sounds empty or missing something. Suspect quality Mp3's also don't help. An example is pro recording studio monitors which are used to provide a flat reproduction of the music being recorded. When the same material is played on speakers which color the sound, it may sound fuller but it is not what was recorded.

Also speakers can take time to break in and after a time can sound better due to increased range and ability to deliver more bass.

    * I am not a fan of Bose in general, but think this system is pretty good for the money and was not just thrown together at the last minute from the parts bin

There are also mp3s that you can use that generate the appropriate tonal noises for breaking in speakers (look at a lot of high-end speaker sites like Martin-Logan or even for high-end earbuds for the iPod).

I'm a little busy at the moment or I'd dig around and post up a link for you.

I have had no luck in programming my garage door opener on my 2008 G35. Has any one been able to make it work with a Phantom opener?
  • kobayashikobayashi Member Posts: 50
You probably have a "rolling code" opener which requires an additional programming step detailed in the manual. It requires you to use a ladder and press a button on your actual opener unit and then do the programming in the car.

    tried that also...

I bought a 2008 G35x 2 months ago. When I did, the finance guy said that he arranged for me to be able to purchase the package that pays for all scheduled maintenance for only $488, which he claimed was his cost. He said it normally went for $1,200. I have now received the information packed on this and it says that I got the cheaper of the 2 packages and that the other one covers a lot more. This appears to cover just oil changes. Has anyone else purchased either of these packages and, if so, what did you pay? I am thinking that I paid full prive for the lower package and was promised the higher one. Thanks very much

    Those packages are dealer specific.
My dealer didn't offer anything like that.... I asked.
$488- for a lifetime of oil changes is still a decent deal.
I pay $40- per oil change. 12 oil changes and it has paid for itself.

Agrred...but I have a 2 year lease, so it sounds awfully expensive to me!
  • kobayashikobayashi Member Posts: 50
In general, I would avoid buying anything from the dealer finance guy. They are a final safety net for the dealer to make up any margin they may have given away during the earlier sales deal and generally sell overly priced, high margin add-ons that either already come with the car or can be bought elsewhere for much less or actually are just plain not necessary. They also have the cherished closer spot, catching you when you are relaxed after "winning" a great deal from the sales guy and wanting to get out of the dealership and drive your new purchase.

My dealer throws in two years of oil changes with any deal - do not pay for that up front.
  • waltazwaltaz Member Posts: 163
Agreed...I politely listen and politely say no. No matter how good or compelling it sounds, or how much he talks about your family, kids, dog, sports, etc., don't let him soften you up - you'll end up spending the money you saved in negotiating the deal.
  • jeffwilsonjeffwilson Member Posts: 45
Yea, i agree also. I guess I fell for it this time because I was able to get the guy a great deal on a new Range Rover (I used to work there), so I save him a few thousand dollars and thought that he actually would give something back. My mistake for trusting him. I can still cancel, and probably will. But I will call the dealership to complain. Thanks...

Does anyone know if Infiniti plans to add auto-locks ( door locks activate over a programmed speed ) to their G35's and if so will a retrofit be available?

  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
    If it will be added...dunno
But there are systems that can be installed to add this.
I know some G owners have installed the KPTechnologies Auto Lock/Unlock Module and they're happy with the results.

    Is it just me or:

-The G rides higher than most ELLPS, I feel like I am higher than most sedans which is awesome
-I seem to be able to take corners at high speeds, whats the fastest you guys have taken corners, once my car is broken in, I am looking forward to that first speeding ticket :shades:

I need to replace the Y pipe on my 2008 G35 4dr sedans factory exhaust. After market exhaust systems only list products through 2007. Will a Y pipe for a 2007 G35 bolt up to a 2008? Any ideas on where to purchase one? Infinity wants $900 and it needs to be special ordered. Thanks.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Why are you replacing the Y pipe?
Jeesh, for a bit more, you can pick up a brand new Stillen or FI exhaust and get a better sound and more power to boot.

chodge, has the noise been found/fixed. I think I may be getting the same sound and it's starting to bug me a bit as well.
  • alang4alang4 Member Posts: 40
Reading this thread, I realized that I have the same problem I think. I have a 2008 G35x which is about a month old. I am pretty sure it's coming from the passenger seat. I was looking at it the other day while I was going over some slightly rougher pavement, and the seat back was vibrating like crazy. I think there's a vibration that comes from a certain frequency that the body of the car experiences at certain speeds and road conditions. It seems to me that on this production run of the seats, they may either not be bolted tightly enough (pure speculation) or there's something missing from the seatback frame. I'll bet that if we all posted our serial numbers they'd be pretty close together.
  • mika01mika01 Member Posts: 12
I have a similar noise issue on 2008 g35x and it seems to be from the seatbelt buckle on the front passenger side. Anyway, I pushed the buckle forward so it is pressed between the seat and the console and the noise appears to be unnoticeable. See if that works for you.
  • joec022joec022 Member Posts: 9
I found that in my '06 and immediately checked this time and it's not it. It sounds as if it's coming from the center of the dash. I have to pay attention to the rearview mirror as esfoad mentioned in an earlier thread. Thanks.

I will take delivery of my G35XS tomorrow and am extremely excited. In looking over the manual on line (an unbelieveable 463 pages), I am amazed at the amount of little features the car has.. It's my first Infiniti and first non american car. I bought the g35 with prem, nav, sport.

So be prepared for a load of questions...
    Like:
Is there a feature that will allow me to play tracks from a homemade mp3, randomly?
Any idea how much the subscription to XM with the traffic monitor will cost when the 3 months expire?
Is the traffic monitor separate from the XM subscription and is it worth it in the NJ/NY area?
    Any info would be appreciated..

    Thanks

    sharkman,

You must be looking at the wrong manual....this car is LOADED with features. I have had my car for almost two months and I'm still trying to figure it all out.

I think the XM traffic is about $3.95 per month, but I have found it to be almost useless. It is separate from the radio service.

Alan... What I meant by "little" was so many good things that make the car.. not the amount of changes..
Thanks for the xm traffic info..

Is there a feature that will allow me to play tracks from a homemade mp3, randomly? Yes, while playing MP3s on CD, CF or MusicBox you can hit the Scn/Rpt button to change from various forums of playlist shuffling (artist, album, etc.)

Is the traffic monitor separate from the XM subscription and is it worth it in the NJ/NY area? Afaik, it's not seperate in the sense that you have to have a base XM subscription to have the Traffic subscription. Your best bet is to let your 3 month demo to expire and they'll send you a special of some variety. Some people have gotten as much as an additional 3 months free for subscribing for a year. Expect to pay about $12 to $15 / month for both XM Music & Traffic.

Can't help you on the NY/NJ side of things except to say that I love the traffic indicators. The unit does NOT do a good job of auto-routing you around traffic problems though.

I recently got a letter from XM that has 3 month package options. 3 Months of Radio is $41.57 or about $14 a month and the Radio and Traffic is $54.38 or $18 per month.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
I held out and paid $77 for a year.
    That's half off.
  • prazpraz Member Posts: 163
I paid $19.99 for 5 months couple of weeks back for XM radio only. I had received a mail for this offer.
  • cadreamncadreamn Member Posts: 56
On the NY/NJ area, it depends what roads you drive. Check out their website for coverage. If you commute into NYC, it looks like major roads are covered - the most helpful kind of coverage is for traffic flow as incident data can be gotten off the radio. I don't do the NYC commute - my most frequently travelled roads did not have good coverage so I let it expire after the trial.

After stopping for coffee on my way to work this morning and restarting the car, the climate control turned off, the radio stayed on the previous channel, but none of the controls would work...I could not adjust (from the dash or steeering wheel) the XM station, couldn't switch to Flash or CD, couldn't adjust the volume, climate control was locked, navigation was locked, etc...absolutely everything was frozen. The LCD screen just showed the typical grayish screen with "radio" and "climate control off." I restarted the car about 4 more times and on the 5th time, everything came back to normal after I ejected a CD from the CD player. I only have approx 1700 miles. The only difference from my normal routine was that I opened the cigarette-lighter compartment to put my parking-lot entrance card in. Would this just be a weird electrical short? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks for your help.
  • tsarkistsarkis Member Posts: 10
I had the same thing happen to me last week, I tried turning the car off and then back on but it didn't fix it, the backup camera didn't show on the screen either, then the screen reset after 5 mins or so and worked fine and climate control turned back on... I didn't have a cd in there I had my iPhone connected. I'm gonna mention to my dealer at my next maintenance, I have around 5700 miles on the car

Thanks for the comments. I emailed my dealer regarding the issue and they hadn't heard of this problem before (though, I'm guessing we're not the only two). I'm supposed to hear back from the Service Manager and I'll let you know if they have any additional info. Thanks again.
  • tsarkistsarkis Member Posts: 10
I'm sure it happened to more ppl, let me know what they tell u anyways thanks
  • alang4alang4 Member Posts: 40
Same thing happened to me, I posted my experience under the Nav topic about a week and a half ago. I asked if anyone knew of a way to do a reset on the system, but I never got a response. My car is about 2 months old with about 1700 miles.
  • rsaulrsaul Member Posts: 28
Heard back from the dealer...they had not heard of this issue before in the G, but said that it has been a known issue on the M, so he was going to check with Infiniti Technical Resources to see if there is a bug also in the G. The dealer didn't have a fix; simply told me that next time it happens to just drive it to the dealership so they can see the issue first hand (luckily I work only a few miles from the dealer). I'll let you know if anything else comes up.

It's happened to me twice since I've owned the car. I got it at the beginning of November and it now has just about 3800 miles on it. Basically, the system freezes and then resets itself after a few minutes. Stopping and restarting the car doesn't seem to help. I haven't been able to get a good explanation, but a few people over at g35driver have had the same exact issue. Hopefully it's not going to begin to act like a Windows PC after a few years of ownership...

I was driving a Dodge Caliber yesterday and its doors lock at 20mph or something, why does my 08 G not do this!!!

Dont get me wrong, I love my G but Infiniti has a few small things to do to make this car beyond awesome :shades:

I was amazed it had a fuel door you push open(non-locking). When I first got the car I was searching for the fuel door release tab. I haven't had a car without one in almost 10 years. Does lexus or acura have push open fuel doors?
  • zekeman1zekeman1 Member Posts: 422
    Lexus has a button release.

I was amazed it had a fuel door you push open(non-locking).

Just to clarify... the door does lock.
When the doors on the car are locked, so is the fuel door.
When the doors are unlocked, the fuel door unlocks as well.

I like the design... less to break (springs and release cables) and it leaves a nice clean look, without the thumb hole.
  • loudog2loudog2 Member Posts: 83
I did not know it locks when the doors are locked. Thanks! I would've never known. Unless I tried to fuel the car with the doors locked(unlikely).
  • carjimcarjim Member Posts: 155
BMW also has the push open fuel door on most of their models.

    Hello all:

I just purchase a platinum graphite G35 Journey with NAV. I have noticed two things that are troubling with the IPOD interface.

    1. The IPOD doesn't pause when the bluetooth phone interface is in use. As I like to listen to audio books, this can be quite a problem. I don't see any way to control the IPOD to make it pause while on a call. Has anyone else noticed this and found a work around.

    2. The fast forward and reverse function of the IPOD controls doesn't seem to work as advertised. According to the manual, you should be able to press the up and down switch on the steering wheel for longer than 1.5 seconds to get it to scan forward or reverse. It will only move up a track or down a track.

Without a pause feature and/or the scan feature, I have no way to use the system to listen to audio books without losing my place everytime a call comes in. If anybody has some suggestions, I would be greatful to hear about it.

Other than these issues, I love the car. Still getting used to it, but I am very pleased with my purchase. I am coming off of a 2006 BMW 330i and I find this car much more comfortable and better value for the money.

What is the difference in the G35s vs G35 Steering Wheel? Does one use softer leather or something?
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
The sport wheel has white stitching...
The base/Journey/X model has black stitching

    That's the only difference

Hello all, This is gonna be my first car and I am torn between buying an Infiniti G35s and BMW 328i . Have a few questions on the G35s . Any help will be much appreciated.

    1) How much would it cost me approximately to drive home a fully loaded G35s ( except maybe tech package and 4 wheel steer package) . I mean including sales tax, and other things (I mean by the time I show it to my neighbors ?)

    2) BMW offers free maintenance for 4 years/50,000 miles. Does Infiniti offer anything similar ? Or do I have to pay outta my pocket for any such package ?

    3) Any similar price estimates for a BMW 328i ?

    Thanks,
    Vybhav
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Premium and Nav packages added to the G35S will run you somewhere around $36,000.
I have no idea what the tax and reg would be as this depends on where you live (tax rate, reg fees)

A very similarly equipped 328i would be somewhere around 40K once you add in the paddle shifters, sport seats, prem and nav packages. (I didn't even add in leather seats, iPod interface, heated seats, moonroof, etc)
The G comes with WAY more standard features that BMW will nickle and dime you on.

As for "free maintenance"... BMW has to offer free maintenance for so many years due to the fact that the car has special requirements. Don't expect to drive to the nearest consumer auto parts store for oil at the end of the 4 years to buy your own oil... ain't gonna happen. Since there are special fluids required, BMW offers 4 years of oil, brakes and wipers.
The additional cost up front upon buying, along with the reliability issues and cost of maintenance after the 4 years is up..... I would NEVER "buy" a BMW. Lease the Bimmer if necessary.
Comparing prices up front and the cost of maintenance, the G is cheaper either way.... and a heck of a nice car too.

Not sure what the manual says (to lazy to look at it, but I did drive today :)) and you're right - the steering wheel controls just move to the next track. You can however FF/RWD by using the center console forward/backward buttons. Just hold it down for a second and the track location will start moving while depressed.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyway to get the audio to stop playing when a call comes in; looks like you'll have to manually rewind.
