I agree the WRX will put Subaru on the map, especially in Florida and SoCal. I was disppointed not to see any Subarus in "The Fast and the Furious", though they had mostly older vehicles. The current Ecplise was MIA, as was the Focus, PT Cruiser, and Neon.

Here it goes again:
Went to Mt Seymour in Vancouver BC yesterday for a Subaru Meet sponsored by Specialty Car and hosted by the Vancouver i-club contingent. They invited the NW i-club up. We managed to get a caravan from the Puget Sound area of 9 cars. The drive up and back was beautiful! Had a great time at the meet. I was the only silver WRX wagon and the only wagon from the States. There was a total of 6 wagons (4 WRXs' and 2 TSs'). Got some good ideas for my wagon from one Rally Blue one I saw. We had a total at one point during the day of about 75 vehicles, quite the spectacle. I took pics w/a disposeable camera and still have to get them developed, then scanned. I thought I would share a couple of pics some others took. BTW, the next meet is the West Coast Meet in Montesano, WA (near the WA coast) on Aug 11th. It would be great to see some Vancouver gang from this site there (hint, hint Ross, Drew...??). They expect over 100 cars.
The first pic is one of the guys in our group. He won "Best Modded Soob". His ride is a 00' or 01' RS with a bunch of great and expensive mods. It's a beautiful car! We all bowed to him later, saying "We're not worthy". It's all the more funny because he's such a low-key guy when you talk to him. My wagon is the "wallflower" in the background. :-)

The 2nd pic is one of my wagon w/the hood open. For a stock car, it sure garnered a lot of attention.

Great pictures! The guy that owns the Impreza in picture #44 lives in my neighbourhood. I see his car all of the time up here, and around town. Wish I remembered about the event though, then I could've met up with you and Ross.

Specialty Subaru could probably show off Patrick Richard's car now that he drives one of Team Canada new WRXs.

It could happen. :-) Wish NC wasn't so far away form WA, I would make it in a heartbeat (with or w/o the towing).
BTW, I started my early education in NC (Fort Bragg) with start of 1st grade, learned to tie my shoes, and to ride a 2-wheeler w/o training wheels. Ahhhh, the memories! :-)

Don't forget about the RS' in the Pine Barrens. Even though the lowered one had to be pushed. :-)

Side note, there will be another Uwharrie run in Oct. So mark your calenders for a weekend in Oct for a run as well.

I went last year and had a good time with my bride and young children. Where a Subaru shirt and I guarantee the SoA folks will introduce themselves. I had a great discussion with district service operations manager. For details, see my trip report from last year *go*.
Event Description:
The Subaru Outback Rendezvous is a FREE outdoor festival created for the general public to discover a variety of popular adventure sports. The event provides hands-on activities for learning canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, fly fishing, and camping. Kids will have there own section of activities for outdoor exploration and learning. Also, the latest outdoor gear will be on display in the Outdoor Expo. The Subaru Outback Rendezvous is about education. We want to educate the public on how to enjoy these sports and activities, about which companies and products support these sports, and on which organizations provide additional resources for getting started. This event series is sponsored by Subaru of America and is produced by ACA Outdoor Events. Each activity area is professionally run by Subaru affiliates including--the American Canoe Association, the canoe and kayak manufacturer, Dagger, the International Mountain Bicycling Association, the mountain bike manufacturer, Gary Fisher, and the outdoor educational organization, Leave No Trace.

Yahoo doesn't list anything in Troy under Lodging, though I did find an old Bed & Breakfast called the Bumpass Inn, and even I'd be afraid to stay there. :-O
The nearest big town is Charlotte, but that's 2 hours 24 minutes away. Also, Troy is about 6 hours 36 minutes away from me, so is going to be a tough sell.
"Honey, we're going to drive 7 hours with the baby to stay in the Bumpass Inn and so you can go to the String Cheese Incident Festival while I off road with my good buddies in the same car that is taking us on the trip".
See what I mean?

Brian,
There's stuff in your area, you just have to decipher the lovely SoA site. The Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival is in Cable, WI has off-road bicycle tour and race events. Subaru is a sponsor; unfortunately, the copy writer (likely not SoA) didn't include much information so I don't know the extent of Subaru's presence. I'd ask 1-800-782-2783 (800-SUBARU3).

I'm sure they are events near Kenosha (Chicagoland is only an hour or so a way, right?). Perhaps local event organizers don't frequent Edmunds.

In keeping with the hideously designed SoA website, the calendar interface is essentially unusable. (I guess this is obvious since folks are having trouble finding Subaru-sponsored events in their area -- it took me a while before I figured out the function wasn't broken.)
Here's how to find info in your area:
- Subaru of America *go*
- Select Adventures on menu bar (the thing in a teeny tiny typeface).
- Select your state from the pull down (tiny typeface above the big picture labeled "Spring Events Calendar" -- clicking on picture does.. nothing!) and select orange Go button.
- In the itsy-bitsy 4 line scroll area (below white LLBean photo on the right), hover over the orange scroll buttons. Each entry pops up a window with event details (occasionally sans text). You like pop-ups, don't you? Don't you? Me neither.
I love how events aren't sorted by date (search on WI). If you increase your browser's (IE in my case) typeface (View, Text Size), the SoA text size gets larger, right? Wrong. The sad thing is that the developers could easily list all events on what I'll call a "calendar". A calendar is a chart showing the days and months of the year. Maybe I should send one to the SoA developers to introduce my innovation.
Too bad the SoA site was developed with specs of "techie cool and hard to use". Looks like they succeeded.
I've found the weakest link in SoA's marketing and it's the Flash website. Bye-bye.

Grumpily yours,
