Here's the link to the Pacific NW Club that is sponsoring the Meet. Would love to see some folks from B.C. and CA if you can make it. Of course, everyone is welcome no matter where you hang your hat!

    Stephen,

Sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make this one. I've always wanted to drive up the Pacific NW, so maybe one of these years...

Ken: From what I understand, it's a yearly deal, this being the 3rd one, but my 1st attendance. So maybe next year (?).

On a related note, I was talking to a tuning business here in the Seattle area. They are hoping to become COBB certified and therefore able to sell and install COBB products on Subarus. I'm excited because I'm very interesed in the Club Spec Stage 1 upgrade (280hp). I also like the COBB wheels, etc. Anyhow, one of the guys from this shop (FAME, is the name, sorry for the cheesy rhyme)is going to be at the West Coast Meet. They are normally a BMW, Audi tuning shop but one of the few places in the US of A that possess a 4WD dyno.

Anyhow, the NW is a great place to visit. Who knows, maybe we can get Ross and Drew from B.C. to come down next year or so too!

Anyone interested in running the pre-run with me on either Sept 8 or Sept 9, drop me an e-mail so I can have a few people with me when I get stuck!

It was held 18th/19th but Ethan (the guy who took these pics) and myself came back on the 19th. Bummer, but none of the pics that show my car (the silver wagon, "1KWKWGN") really show the silver factory rocker panels that I put on to replace the stock black ones. Oh well, I had a lot of fun and won a WRX baseball cap and free 30,000 mile service certificate (over $500 value, yippee!)

mike (paisan): WOuld like to pre-run with you but will probably have to work that weekend. Still planning on making the 9/15 run.

Stephen: nice pix, odd not to see any Foresters there. Wish I could win a 30K service certificate!

I can't believe it! More SVXs than Foresters!

Lark: We all commented on the fact that there were no Foresters. I mean, we had one OB, at least. It was also strange that there were more SVX's than Foresters, but it was really cool to see the SVX's. The folks w/the older Soobs were like a Mad Max movie. They were all posed on some mud hills and kept taking their jacked-up rides to the "real" hills further up the park. I think their club is called the Mud Runners or something. Wished some of the Crew here could have attended...maybe next year??

Mud Runners sounds like a cool club. I'll have to become an honorary East Coast Affiliate!

I did the CT Hurdle Rally this weekend. It was quite un-eventful, until we missed a turn, then we were racing to make up time. Someone else missed the same turn and my uncle almost took them out as we were cruising at like 80+mph to catch up ang get back on time. You should try to do a road rally, they are quite fun.

This is a pic of my "ride" and me (in the baseball cap). I'm talking with the owner of the yellow WRX sedan from the other pics. This pic was taken by a guy from the Vancouver, CN Club.

Unfortunately, the direct link can't be accessed. Go into the link below, click on NWMeet and then click WRX01. Also check out the white TS wagon. Even a TS can be made to look "phat" I think this couple came up from Oregon.

I might go. Kinda hectic since I was gone for two weeks. I'll have to speak with my personal scheduler (wife) and let you know. Maybe we can bring both Subes. Since Friday's is usually packed anyway, everyone may have to get takeout and eat in the parking lot. :-)

How shall we kick off the poll/vote for the event mentioned during last Thursday's chat?
I can't remember the details. Place? Time?... what else?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You comin' to Pine Barrens? We could have a quick brain-storming session for ideas, then share the ideas on these boards to see what people think.

The other option is to partner with SCOA. Gary's got nothing in the pipeline right now, so it would make sense.

What's this new idea for an event? I missed the chat. Pat, I'd like to buy a clue!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Patti was doing a budget proposal and wanted to get some funding for an event for the Edmunds Subaru Crew. Fine with us! :-)

Juice - My schedule looks tight (returning from AZ late p.m.), but I'll be determine to lugged myself into the OB next morning. Never gone on an offroad trip before and I'm game.
Mike (paisan) - Given that I've no experience with offroad, what will I need to carry along? I know I need the "Thinking Cap" for brainstorming.
I'll be off to AZ next Saturday so if there are equipments I would need and don't have (I probably don't), I would have to stock it by this weekend. Thanks

Make sure your spare is in good shape, if you ahve a tow strap that would be useful. Make sure your tow points are easily accesible and not rusted out or anything. If you have or can get ahold of a hand held CB, that's cool too.

Sweet, that's going to be fun.

I need directions to/from Sesame Place. We're supposed to be staying in a hotel near there.

    -juice
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Yo, paisan, I don't have the rear diffy protector on my Forester. Should I put one on before the trail ride? Also, any recommendations for tow straps? Where in Atsion will we meet - where 206 hits the park entrance?

juice - e-mail me offline for directions. If you're that close to Sesame Place we can hook up and convoy over there (again I'm about 3-4 miles from Sesame Place).

    Ed
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
ya mike, I don't have a rear diff protector too.
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Hey, do you have rights to use that name? :p Still not sure if I can make the pre-run or not. Are you familiar with Wharton S.F. area? Try to find some dirt roads that are similar to the ones we were on near Lebanon S.F.

    Dennis
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
If you have em, great, if you don't, don't worry, however if you are thinking of getting one, put it on before then. We are going to try to find some trails that have some difficult sections with by-passes and some dirt roads as well. We'll be taking a WRX I think on the pre-run with us so if he can make, you can make it!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The diffy is a good 10" off the ground. The front cross member is about 7" off the ground, so that'll scrape bottom long before the diffy.

Of course if you're getting one anyway, now is the time. Plus, mine functioned to keep the area clean while driving on the beach. The rest of the trans/driveshaft got filthy.

Ed: sounds good. Can you e-mail me at ateixeira@ifc.org? I don't have your address handy (it's archived).

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Check your tow-hook points to make sure they are accessible and are not corroded/broken. For the WRXs out there make sure you have your front tow-hook point insert. That way if we need to pull you out, you aren't fumbling for your hooks, or saying "where is my tow-hook?" I hope Patti can make this, since it's in her back yard! :)

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I gotta remember the pin for my hitch. My front tow hooks are accessible.

I may try one "save" to see what she can do.

Don't forget...if you put on a diffy protector, you are changing the gender of your vehicle...DO NOT CONFUSE YOUR VEHICLES!!! THEY LOVE YOU!!!

P.S. you guys are lucky with all these evnets..don't have too many here in South Florida...Patti...send everyone down!!!

I have a week-long regulatory (FDA) training session I'm putting together for a client to run 9/10-14. Will be doing last-minute stuff Sunday - checking HW/SW/peripherals. The 9/15 run will be a nice stress reliever by week's end.

    Good luck,
    Ed
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Yep that will be the paramount event. The 9th will be a much slower pace, so we make sure that the trails actually lead somewhere (dead ends are not fun)

Seeing as the upcoming (tomorrow and Sunday) Outback Rendevous is near my neck of the woods (I am from Toronto and the Rendevous is in Syracuse, only 400km away), I am planning on heading down and checking this event out. I have heard so many good things about it I have to take advantage!

If any of you happen to be there, please feel free to say "Hi". I am the big blonde guy with short blonde hair and goatee. I will probably be wearing my Subaru T-shirt.

I would glad to meet all you great Subaru enthusiasts!

Mike- Just wanted to say "thanks" for a fun time yesterday. It was a blast to take the OB through all those trails! I also learned to take it easy on a couple of the spots (after the fact). If you get a chance, can you e-mail me your friend Matt's number? I think after yesterday, skid plates would definitely be a good investment. I just hope there will be no problem getting to the oil filter.

Sorry I won't be there this Saturday. For anyone on the fence as to whether to go or not----GO!!! You'll have a blast, and it is great to know what your car can do.

Juice- You are going to have FUN!

Thanks Mike. I just sent him an e-mail with what I need done. BTW, do I have to replace the air filter after yesterday? It was just replaced on Saturday, so it was brand new.

    Thanks again,

Patti from SOA has confirmed for sat. So we'll get to see an offical car at the event. She is thinking of taking the WRX wagon she has. She asked if I thought she should get something else. I said a VDC might be nice to see how it handles the sand.

    -mike
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Mark, you just answered my question that I posted in Maint.

I'm debating if I should take my wife's OB (steel(?) engine underguard, rear diff protector, auto, more clearance) or my OBS (nekkid underneath, 5-speed, narrower, more scratches).

As for Patti's decision - since I would love to see both in the dirt, I'll stop by and pick up the WRX Wagon and she can take the VDC. :-)

    Dennis
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
    Dennis,

If you want less to worry about, take the OB. If you do take the OBS, you'll have fun as well. There were 2 Impreza RS there yesterday, and while they got stuck a couple of times, they made it through intact. Either way enjoy!

    Mark
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Great pix. Looks like we can really test suspension articulation. Some of those sand pits look nice and deep, too. Did the RS ever get stuck?

Gotta try that water crossing! I am psyched!

It looks like I may(might) be stuck here awhile. Don't really know if I could get back into New York for the run, but I'm certainly gonna try.
Matter of fact, I don't even know if it is still on.
Mike, drop me a short e-note 9177701666@voicestream.net (or call me) to give me an update.
I don't have full use of the pc over here at the hotel.
Glad to know that everyone is OK.
My colleagues (2) have still yet to hear from their loved ones (nephew/brother).
I personally, haven't heard from two former colleagues (Fuji Bank/Commerzbank).
My girlfriend (Bank of Communications) about 4 blocks from where WTC 1&2 once stood made it out of the area ok.
