Just got info from an I-clubber from DE. He said he can put us up in his place that friday night (couches, beds, floors) so things are really pulling together.

Sounds good. I'll let you know for sure. Also, let me know if you do a "group buy" for CB's.

How are the handheld CB's? Are they worth it.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Hand helds are ok, but usually more expensive than a regular unit. I'll keep you posted on a group buy. My buddy used to actually be the manger at the one in Eltingville, but it's closed now.

A group of Tri-staters are looking for a casual Sunday drive in western NJ this coming Sunday. As a result of suggesting some roads and places to stop for food and drink, I have been nominated tourmaster. I may be up for this if I can get errands done at home and make my Stude club planning meeting. NY/NJ'ers may want to check it out.

paisan: word is getting around. I bumped in to a regular from the Mid-Atlantic i Club chapter, and the buzz is all over the place. He's going and so is a friend.

    Way to go.

Didn't realize it was getting that big, but you know me, I never do anything small.

    I guess it's a "paisan-sized" event. :-)

I can say I'm a maybe. Did you guys decide on a time? i-club is down right now.
Our Saturday is booked and we wanted to do some house stuff Sunday afternoon before the weather gets too cold. Oh the joys of owning a house and the previous owner's spent mega-thousands in high-maintenance landscaping for us to keep up with. A would be happy with the shrubs and trees ripped out and filled with rocks!

I hear you with the house stuff. Fortunately the bulk of the leaf removal is done and there's little left to do outside. I have to touch up painting some stair risers and that should be it, knock wood.

i-club is back up as of 5 minutes ago. No timeframe set yet. I proposed that the group start in Flemington (maybe @ Flemington Subaru?) and travel west toward PA, crossing over to go through a couple covered bridges. I will be looking for the map and directions I put together as Stude club tourmaster but if I can't find them I'll use an ADC map. My plan is to have them drive through the Amwells, Stockton, Sergeantsville (home of NJ's only remaining covered bridge), Milford for lunch, then over into PA and back into NJ mid-afternoon.

I hope there are more than a couple of people involved and that I won't have to draw up a map for those speed demons who want to race ahead of the pack.

You have my contact info if you need it. Hope to see you.

mike- any insight on how it is coming along with SoA? I'm exploring avenue(s) from my side if my org. would co-participate with SoA (our client).

Sorry, paisan, 12/1 is full for me with home projects and a Stude club biz meeting. I am organizing a backroads and covered bridge tour in western NJ and eastern PA Sunday morning; it will start out of Flemington. See the i-club Tri-State forum for details. Only about 4-5 people in it as of now.

May have to go to a funeral. :(

It's funny because a few weeks ago, I was thinking of that date. Can't make it though because of a dance recital (no, I'm not in
    it :-p).
Will try to make the run on Sunday since I've never seen a covered bridge in person.

    Sorry to hear, Bob.

Thanks, it was a neighbor of ours who passed away two days ago. Thankfully not a close friend, or family member...

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
No one wants to go tomorrow, I may go on sunday I'll check the I-club for details on it.

Bob: My condolences. Even the loss of a neighbor you don't know well can have an impact on the community. I never ran into that growing up but I do now, especially since 9/11. The pilot of the second plane to strike the towers was from our town, as was one of the leaders of the Flight 93 revolt against the hijackers.

Lightening up now: Dennis, paisan, come join us! At the very least, there'll be some interesting scenery and a brewpub lunch. The majority of those planning on coming appear to be WRXers so it'll probably be the greatest concentration of bug-eyed Subies the genral public has seen!

I will be laying out the route tonight, but won't likely pre-run it. Shouldn't be critical since it's been too dry for any bridges to wash out.

Ed led a fun trip through some hills and twisties in Western NJ/Eastern PA. For those in the area that didn't make it, you missed some really fun roads, nice scenery and a nice lunch.
Looking forward to doing it again.

Ok the Official Date for "The 48hrs of Tri-state Benefit Run" is Jan 11-13. Look for a subie @ a town near you!

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Aw shuckens, Dennis, 'tweren't nothin'. We'll have to do it again when there are leaves on the trees - that area's even prettier with fall foliage. Some of those roads are treacherous when snow or ice covered, even with AWD.

I don't think I have ever been as jealous of anything as when I saw Mike's pics of the Pine Barrens Run!!! I wish there were something like this in South Florida! but then again taking my new OB into that... I don't know! ... but maybe picking up an old OB or Forester.... :)

Why was the Subie RS steaming?

    Bob
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
he ran through the muddy water. All the engines were steaming after the first run through.

mike, great photos! The 4th (2nd down, R) is timed perfectly! If that had been taken in front (with a telephoto), it'd look like it has wings.

Hey Mike, I'm jealous...no such thing in So. Florida exceot for construction sites(lots of nails) and the Everglades (lots of gators). Nice pics, glad you guys had fun
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
We did have a ball. We are actually going to take some of the dirt roads through the PB during "The 48hrs of Tri-state" should be fun at night.

wow, that mitsu (Pajero) looks like it just makes the clearance w/ those tires. articulation!

a sube w/ a light bar - and it's a hatchback! and it later rescues the Pajero!

what was the charcoaled remnants of?

    -Brian
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
It was a jetta that was in the hole where the GL got stuck later on. Mike in the GL wanted to play in the hole so the Pajero(Montero) pulled out the VW carcass and dragged it around. Quite amusing.

I recognized that hulk as an A2 Jetta like the one I used to own. Wonder what it was doing out there? Insurance fraud?

    Ed
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
It was on the other side of 72, near where we dropped off Sean with his dead Trooper that time. There were a # of dead cars there in the pit, probably insurance jobs or stolen cars.

Speedbuggy67 from the I-club is having another dinner meet at the Ruby Tuesday's in Woodbrige. Scott has a yellow REX. Also we convinced him to make dinner at 8pm so that people could have time to arrive.

I'll make the ones I can. Did that last area also have by-passes around the really hairy trails?

    Dennis
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
It was more of a huge sand pit with some side trails. A CB for communications would be helpful so that others could scout out and let the other's know if it was difficult or not.

starts the day after Christmas, which is when I usually go. Any takers out there?
