    on March 2.

    March 3, 9, 10, 16, 24, 31 are all open for me.

Let me know which date you choose lark, and I'll plan on setting up the trail ride for an alternate weekend.

3/3 too close to RalliSpec, too much driving for too many people. 3/24 is Palm Sunday, 3/31 is Easter Sunday, and people may want to spend the religious holidays with family (or eating marshmallow peeps). I'll drop a line to the i-clubbers (TriState forum) who joined us last time and get their input.

3/16 I was thinking of going to the Novice School @ Englishtown and There is a meadowlands NASA auto-x on 3/17

I'm not busy March 9th. Just checked the calendar. :D 3/10 or 16 works for me.

Auto-x novice school? What, to teach? :-)

Philly area novice school is 4/13 but if E'town 3/16 that might be a good one to go to instead.

Dave: green beer/bottled water or a shamrock in your fog light covers :-)

I posted 3/10 or 3/16 over on i-club, let's see what response we get over there.

A tide of e-mails and PMs are in favor of this date. I wanted to set a snow date but a chorus of boos arose along with the reply "that's why we bought Subarus!" My thought was that many would be eager to switch to summer rubber but, even with our globally warmed winters, snow is a definite possibility up until the end of March.

But 10th works for me. I'll throw up a little page on http://isuzu-suvs.com/events

I stuck it on "Sunday Backroad Drives Feb. 10" thread in Tri-State in response to the request for a PA drive. I'll ask Mitch (he's the instigator) to start a new thread.

    Ed
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I actually posted to them before about this problem. For some reason they don't like to start a new thread. For me at least if the event is in the past and I didn't attend and don't want to see pics or discussions about it, I ignore it. The titles over there are helpful to cut through the rest of the stuff.
That's why I didn't even know you posted it over there.

    -mike
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
I should've started the thread myself. I'll check back later and see if he responds. In the meantime I'm having fun tormenting the under-30 crowd over there with my knowledge of obscure pre-1980 cars.

Backroads drive through eastern PA (and a tiny bit of NJ) Sunday, March 10. Details to follow as they develop, including time, location of starting point and directions to that site.

    Ed
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Drop me an e-mail with the details (whenever you get em) and I'll make a page similar to the other event pages if you want on http://isuzu-suvs.com/events

Then we can direct folks to your link. I already know where we'll start from but not when.

BTW I just changed my profile 'cause I felt like reflecting my ethnicity - at least for today. paisan, you're a US citizen too IIRC, so I figured it's okay for now. I just want to see if the flag will pop up then I'll switch back to US later. [edit: huh - it didn't show up. Guess I'll stay a 'merican ;-) ]

I was born in Brazil and didn't move here 'til I was 3. But I'm still a Brazilian citizen, a non-resident alien, go figure. You guys probably knew I was an alien! ;-)

Have you applied for American citizenship via the naturalization process? Just curious...I was 5 when we came to the states (born in France), and after 7 years, we were all naturalized.

In keeping with the spirit of this board, I'm changing my name from Serge to...

    YET ANOTHER SERGE !
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's odd. I was here under a G-4 visa my dad sponsored me for, then as a student with an F-1. After that I joined the World Bank and got my own G-4. Thing is, none of those make me a resident.

Doesn't matter - my wife is American, so is my daughter. I haven't applied for a Green Card yet because I would have to give up some major benefits and diplomatic privileges, which I won't do until I retire.

We usually make the people that move to Staten Island from Brooklyn apply for citizenship since Brooklyn is a world all it's own! :)

Dave, what color is the sky in your world? :)

    Are you coming on sunday?

    -mike
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
This morning when I looked, it was cloudy :-D
Hmmm maybe it wasn't clouds I saw.

Sunday? Don't know. GF mentioned she wants to go on a recon for Apartments. I'll see how things pan out Saturday.

    -Dave
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Yes quite cloudy downtown here now too.

Sunday is a pretty big trail ride (it started small but we are up to 23 confirmed and 10 unconfirmed) down in the Barrens. Hey lark what are you doing sunday? Come on down!

Paisan: still too much going on with work - been taking a lot home. If I can clear my plate I might meet you guys but OTOH I might pre-run the backroad drive. I want to be able to give pace notes to people who may want to make the run again by themselves, or who may want to pass me if I'm not going fast enough for them, or whose GPS systems don't give them downloadble coordinates (Dave... ;-P). We'll see.

    Thanks for asking,

Does that mean I can claim dual citizenship? And how soon can I call myself an Islander? A Subaru islander that is (to keep it on topic).

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
While you guys root up the Pine Barrens, I will be making the pre-run for the March 10 PA backroad drive. Finally got a navvie to take odo readings for me.

    Have fun,

Are you sure you don't want to play in the mud?
    From accu-weather (sorry for the caps. It's a copy/paste):
    - TONIGHT...CLOUDY. RAIN LIKELY OVERNIGHT...MIXING WITH OR CHANGING TO SNOW LATE. LITTLE OR NO SNOW ACCUMULATION. LOWS IN THE MID 30S. WEST WIND 5 TO 10 MPH BECOMING NORTHWEST 10 MPH LATE. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 60 PERCENT.
    - SUNDAY...CHANCE OF EARLY MORNING FLURRIES...THEN VARIABLE CLOUDS. WINDY AND COOLER WITH HIGHS 40 TO 45. NORTHWEST WIND 15 TO 30 MPH."

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Mud would be fun, true. Still, after our last PA drive (a) we didn't get Dave's GPS readings (b) there was a major bridge out that forced me to change route (c) I got the feeling some folks thought I wasn't leading fast enough. So this way if I give people a route with mileage they can zip ahead or recreate the trip for themselves at a later date.

Since the trip starts out heading due north there's still a good chance I could see mud and snowy slush tomorrow.

    Ed
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Update: my co-driver had to back out at the last minute so I won't be doing the pre-run tomorrow. There's still next weekend and the weekend after, though. I'll send info on the meeting place to paisan to post on his website and it'll show up in the i-club thread as well.

http://isuzu-suvs.com/events/pb02-17-01/pics/index.htm Blue subie did the water crossing! :) And we had to do an on-trail repair of an RS front cross member.

We had a great time and I'm looking forward to another one. After seeing the after lunch pics, I'm glad I left early. Sand is easier to clean than mud. :-)

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Woohoo for bluesubie! Looks like y'all did the water crossing in the opposite direction of the way we did it in September. Nice to see the muddy WRX and RSes. The Tundra and Vehicrosses look to have handled conditions very well too.

We will meet where we ended the last PA backroad drive: in the Ben Franklin parking lot across from David Rago Auctions in Lambertville, NJ. (Rago is an expert on American art pottery who frequently appears on PBS's "Antiques Roadshow" - nothing to do with Subies but cool stuff if you're into it. BTW it's a good thing we're doing this 3/10 'cause he's having a huge auction 3/16.)
For directions, I couldn't do it any better than David Rago himself, so check his website:

    http://www.ragoarts.com/directions.html

paisan: Will send you more to post as it develops. I'd like to start the run @ 8:30AM but will most likely put it off until 9:00.

    Nice pix, mike.

That RS got filthy, must've been fun. The 2 door Troopers are rare, right? Wasn't there a 25% tax on those, vs. 2.5% for the 4 door, which used to be imported from Japan?

That BRAT was a real champ at that water crossing. Nice splash.

My step-kids were complaining because my splash wasn't as big as his. :-)

One took on a tree stump and pushed the X-member into the engine. We turned off the engine, and were able to pull the X-member away from the engine, and re-set the radiator (not leaking) and he was able to drive it home amazingly. We also needed to strap the back of the car to the montero, while yanking with the Trooper SWB.

Juice: the tax thing was on the ones with more than 2 rows of seats. Basically 2 rows of seats got a higher tax than the ones with 1 set. That was the difference between a Trooper and a Trooper II, the # of doors didn't matter IIRC.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
So you had a tug-of-war with the RS in the middle? Hilarious.

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
First they tried to yank the X-member out, but it didn't work, so they had to strap the rear to Doug's Monty.

Yeah, my whole family was there and loved it.

My wife rode with my friend in his new Tacoma. It was his first time off-roading and he got some BAD scratches on the right side (paisan took a pic).

I made the kids get out going through the water because I wanted more ground clearance (probably 1/32 inch. :-D ), and just in case I got stuck.

    -Dennis
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I guess the Tacoma has thin paint? ;-)

You should've let the kids go swimming with you.

Actually Dennis he has a Tundra. I should have made him go with the other group, he even has a rear locker I think!

    -mike
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
I always get the Toyota's mixed up.

I think it has about 9" of clearance.

    -Dennis
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Too bad we couldn't take him with the other guys down the harder trail. Would have liked to see him working it over there! :)

    -mike
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
He probably wouldn't have gone since it was his first time. It's looks like a very capable truck though. Almost as capable as the Baja. :-D

-Dennis, trying to be sort of on-topic

P.S. - He used Turtle Wax Swirl and Scratch remover and the scratches are barely noticeable. He said you have to get really close and it probably looks better than before he went.
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Did you rearrange the PB pics?
    Where's my car? :-)
