Would really want to go, specially to meet up with y'all. BUT, it's a weekday and its cutting real close to our Bank's fiscal year end (Black-out dates on Day-offs imposed). :-(

Hey Dave, we should plan on hitting the NY Auto-show. Are you coming to The 48hrs of Tri-state?

    -mike
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
Mike- yes, we should for the NY Auto Show.
The 48hrs of Tri-State? I'm still a "MAYBE". Still got some unfinished personal issues to take care of. BUT, I'm committing $120 (might double it) to the cause regardless of whether I do the run or not.

BTW does the handheld CB have the same range as the conventional box?

    Definitely!

Speaking of the NY Show, if you recall, I questioned the new Forester's *World Debut,* as to whether it was going to be at Geneva (in March) or NY (in April)? Adding further confusion was that *Next Year's Highlights* release from Subaru stating that the NY Show was in March.

Well, it turns out the Subaru dealer release was (partially) right. The NY Show actually opens at the end of March (the 29th??) and goes into the first week of April. I'm not sure of the Geneva Show date however.

I may go on Friday to the DC show. Anyone else have the day off? It's crowded on the weekend.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
OK, CVS has $2 off coupons, but it is for weekdays only. Admission is $8, so that would make it $6.

Still working on those free passes, though I may only know on Friday morning. Let me know if you plan to go, ateixeira@ifc.org.

I went today. Sorry juice, I couldn't wait till Friday. :(

    A few comments:

    • The Caddy CTS looks really good in person. It will be interesting to see how the public react to its radical (for Cadillac) styling.

    • I don't remember seeing any Subaru Legacys. They must have been there...

    • If what I heard was true, it sounds like Acura has found religion: I spoke to a salesman from the Gathersburg Acura dealer, and he said that reps from Honda/Acura headquarters confirmed the following:

    > CL and TL 6-speeds will get full-fledged AWD. When? I don't know, but he swears its coming. I guess Acura finally realized you can put only so much power to the front wheels.

    > In addition, the next NSX will get AWD.

    > Also, the next Acura flagship V8 sedan will get AWD. This sedan, apparently will not replace the RL, but will be positioned above it to compete with Mercedes S-Class and the like! It sounds like the RL will compete with the Mercedes E-Class, and the TL with the C-Class.

Remember folks, you heard it here first. :)

    • Honda showed its new Civic Si hatchback. I think this is one of the neatest looking cars out there!

    • Toyota had their Matrix there—also very sharp looking.

    • Did you know the Acura RSX only has one key hole—the driver's door! I found that out looking for the inside rear hatch lever (also missing). The salesman said that when you unlock the the driver's door the rear hatch automatically unlocks too. I don't know about the passenger door however. I guess most people use key FOBs these days, so key holes are less important now.

I'm tell'n ya, Subaru is going to have its hands full trying to keep up here. I sure hope that rumored '04 Prodrive-designed Impreza is a winner! It's going to have to be.

an AWD TL? I'd probably be in heaven! :) Unless that Blitzen surfaces and lures me before then.

I'll be making my annual trek to the Chicago show in Feb '02 (it's Feb 9th - 18th). (http://www.chicagoautoshow.com) Not sure of the date just yet. Then maybe onto the Milwaukee show, which is Feb 23rd - Mar 3rd (http://www.autoshowusa.com).

Maybe in '03 I can swing the Detroit show. We'll have to wait and see.

I don't recall seeing a Legacy at the '01 Chicago show, just the new OBS and Impreza's, and the H6 Outbacks. But, I could have also missed it since I was all eyes on the yellow WRX they had on display.

    -Brian
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Subaru also had a yellow WRX on display, as well as their SCCA racer!

I've heard stories like that about AWD vehicles before. Don't believe all of them! :)

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
IIRC, The Mazda and Honda displays were close to one another, so checking out the MPV and Odyssey should be easy. One of the MPVs had that DVD roof unit playing Schrek(sp?). I'm not sure if Honda had a DVD-equipped Odyssey there, however?

I believe the MPVs were 2.5L. There were no 3.0L models there. :(

it's the first I've heard mention of it. It would be quite an interesting mix if it were to come into reality.

speaking of which...better bring this discussion to Future Models.

Man does that bring back memories. I worked on the new Airport a few squares back and use to eat there for lunch sometimes. You gotta get a "Garbage Plate". Don't forget the Pepto!

Man, they're not just fabricated stories .. it's the truth. I caught a flight back to BWI after lunch at Nick's, one day. Spent the entire trip in the "Occupied".

Jan 19th and Feb 17th. Most people have Feb 18th off for President's Day so maybe we can get some of the Mid-atlantic crew to come up for the day!

The pics are courtesy of Subiegal (aka: Jamie). These are some more pics not in my album yet. I really had to wash my car yesterday. It was a P-I-G hog dirt mobile. :-) oh, yeah, I'm the last guy in the yellow jacket w/the blue WRX cap on.

Stephen - Great scenery in the Northwest! I wish we would get some decent snowfall here in NJ. I was in Western MA last weekend and there was only a couple of inches. Jamie's RS is even more decorated than the Legacy was.

mike - Where did you hit snow? Western PA or Upstate NY? Is Dave towing the Monty out of the mud? :-)

    -Dennis
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
We hit snow in Pittsburg->Erie->Buffalo->Rochester, that was on sat night. Then we hit snow again on Sunday west of albany near my house in the Adirondacks. That was Bat trying to tug doug out, but it was futile. He had to go back the next day with a built up F-150 with Mud-terrain tires and that took 8 tugs to get him out.

Holy cow, man, I have to move. Talk about gorgeous scenery! DC is so flat! Even if I head over to the Shanendoah, I think the peak is a measly 3000 ft!

mike: what was that guy pulling out of his radiator? Wires? Also, is that "Tree Killah" swimming?

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Billy was taking out the wiring harness for his Hella 1000 lights on his RS, he removes the grille and puts a bar in place with the lights.

That was in fact Doug Tree Killa swimmin!

We got some snow flurries today, north of Seattle but no accumulation. Stevens Pass (the pics) is about 2 hrs away, Leavenworth about 2 1/2 hrs. This was the first snow I've got drive in w/the WRX. It was a blast and good experience getting the feel of stopping and turning on compact snow/ice.

Bummer, it's my turn to watch the kid. You believe this? A friend on my wife's is on bed rest, so the wife got free tickets to see Billy Joel and Elton John!

It was just one ticket, plus I've already seen that concert.

and caught the first(?) round of the '02 Paris-to-Dakar race on Speedvision.

Again, the cars (I say "cars," because that's how they're classified) are dominated by SWB Mitsubishi Pajaros (Monteros). I did see a Mercedes ML, several Mitsubishi Montero Sport derivatives, a few Nissan pickups.

The trucks are dominated by huge Tatras, and the bikes are dominated by KTMs. There was also a boxer-twin BMW and a I believe a Honda.

I have to tell ya, the photography of this event is absolutely stunning!

The only thing prettier this time of year would be SR20 (North Cascades)...too bad it's closed for the winter. Stevens was sure pretty coming home from Birch Bay 2 Augusts ago, too!
I think we're making the flatlanders jealous!

    Cheers!

Nothing. You're obviously the one with musical taste. :))

Nothing says "party" like a massive piano bar attended by 15,000 people, with a lot of lifestyle choices thrown in. Actually, described that way, it just might be.......nah, not for $50. ;')
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It was actually $80. Concert ticket prices have sky-rocketed in the past decade. Ridiculous.

We'll be in Florida in February for a wedding, so Mickey and I will wave to you guys.
