June 30th is a good date. June 29th Englishtown, maybe. Rome? Things are going on on the home front which would making crashing at your place upstate out. Thanks for the offer. :)

So, anyone wants to give my OB the run for the money?

mike: I'm curious, how did your times compare for the different cars? I know familiarity is a factor, but it would be fun to see those.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Unfortunately there were no fun-run times :(

My guy feeling is that with the slightly modified 2.5RS it was faster than with the XT6. With the WRX it was definitely slower. I was totally un-impressed with the suspension on the WRX it was horrible in near-stock format (he had slightly lower springs) I can only imagine how much body roll it has stock, also the brakes were sooooo mooshy compared to my XT6 brakes. Maybe it was the ABS on the WRX that did it. I definitely want a GC8 coupe for auto-x/track or a 97-99 Legacy GT.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I've heard you can pull a fuse on the WRX to disable ABS temporarily. Maybe just for the autoX runs?

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
in stock class you must use ABS if your vehicle was so equipped. :( Although if the fuse blew and a dead one was in there it would be legal IIRC. It was funny the brakes on the RS didn't have the same squishy feel, yet the RS had ABS and it was not disabled, so I don't think the WRX was activating the ABS on me.

    Save blown fuses. ;-)

    Mike,

Nice photo! Do you know if your XT6 has a single or dual stage brake booster? I bet the WRX uses a dual stage giving it that mushy feel.

Is that it's single. I have single pot calipers all around so it wouldn't suprise me.

    particularly Dennis and... Ed :D
AutoX the '98 Outback (totally stock) - yes, with the meaty 205/70/15 Michelin Energy MXV4 (not the plus).
I am amaze what this car could actually do.
Kept its composure at all the turns - no spin out breakaway nothing, even with mike (Paisan) at the helm :D

So, Dennis and Ed, wanna come out and play?

    -Dave
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
For me was tossing around Dave's OB! Hope he isn't too afraid to let me fun-run it again! That thing moved out and I couldn't even spin it. Can only imagine it with R-compounds, stiffer springs/shocks :)

    mike-
you might get that chance :-)
Help me here. I'm nudging Dennis and Ed to come out and play. ;-)

They better make it out there. If they don't I think they'll become known as the Forester and OBS (5MT mind you) that backed down from the mighty mighty outback of Hypov!

BTW dave, join the "Auto-x Discussion" in the News and Views area here, I can use some n00b insight cause we have 2 or 3 guys over there that are new too.

Do I see a gauntlet thrown before me?

Should I be removing my new 17"s and throwing the balding Geos back on if only to avoid getting in too deep? =:-O

    at the shore.
Hmmm, would I rather drive around in a parking lot in 90 deg. heat, or relax at the shore in Avalon, NJ at my friend's house? :-)

Congrats, Dave! Etown or Meadowlands? I'll have to check the schedules and see when I can squeeze one in. July is definitely out.

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
I wonder if there's an auto-x class for cars with boat racks on top? Mine's been up there since before Memorial Day and it most likely won't be coming down until Halloween.

    Ed
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
    It's not a problem. :)

    -mike

PS: I'd rather be auto-xing than sitting around the house! ;)
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
I was "based" at the house, but definitely didn't "sit around". :-)

    -Dennis
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
    squeeze only one in?
You can squeeze in more than that. ;-)

Speaking of squeeze, I think the Outback set seven people in the trial run.

Anyway, I ran the Meadowland event.

Argh, that would be sweet - but the wife is due, man, it could be any day now. I can't even leave town!

Can't wait 'til the kids are old enough to come WITH me on trips like that.

I think I have already met you though. :-)
It was at the last Cape May meet. I have a blue OBS and I was driving around looking for a place to eat. That one place was too small. 'member??

Speaking of Fire & Rescue, here's a cool story from my wife's cousin.

She was expecting a baby and went into labor quickly. Her husband drove her a while, but the baby was coming. Thinking quickly, they dialed 911 and asked the F&R folks to meet them half way, with an ambulance.

Reliable as the sun, they did just that. They trasfered the mom from a Honda Passport (with a damaged interior from a mother kicking in pain) to the ambulance, and made it safely to the hospital, where the baby was born almost immediately.

Mom and baby are fine. :-)

Does it again! The outback wagon was a rockin again yesterday at the auto-x. BBQ afterward and everything. Gotta get more edmunds people out there! I know there are bunch in the NY/NJ area!

Found out from NASA that my Outback is probably the first and only that has ever ran their events :D
And,... I do not believe anyone has ran the Outback Sports or the Forester yet [double meaning hint hint].
Dennis, better grab the honor before I do with Mom's OBS ;-)

Unfortunately this isn't the right phase in my life - I gotta be a dad first!

When they are old enough to come with me, I just might drive up and make a road trip out of an event like that!

Maybe if I invented a cradle that rocked along with the car, and put a roll bar around it...

When are you folks going to be going again? I may try to get out to one- the weekend of 7/27-28 might be good as I will be a bachelor for the weekend:-)

I think I would like to observe from the sidelines first though.

    Mark
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
    Mark-
    Lets see,
    July 14 in Albany
    July 20 in ETown
    July 21 in Meadowland
    July27/28?? that's in Graffis (sp) ~Rome, NY.

I'll likely be in Albany and ETown, and definitely in Meadowlands.

Don't bother observing from the sideline - I did that and it got pretty boring after awhile, and it did not yield me the experience to be had in the course.

Give mike a PM or e-mail. He'll get you started :D and I could use an Outback out there to chase ;-)

Traveling farther down South for business/personal reasons. Will sadly miss that auto-x Dave's been coaxing me out to as well. :-(

Hope to spend more time back in DC next year, especially if the Montreal Expos become Washington Senators v.3.0 as rumored.
