You will be in our thoughts and prayers. There is a beautiful story about pets in heaven. I'll find it and send it to you directly.

Annual Report: I quickly went to the products section (where the beef is), and noticed the 2005 SUW will have a Subaru platform, while rumors have hinted at a GM Lambda chassis. Also, they say the CVT will expand, even though it sounds like Europe or Japan. But parts sharing with Suzuki? Have you seen the materials in the Vitara? I hope they use Subaru parts, and not the other way around.

I always like to refer back to FHI's 5 year business plan from 2000 to see how they're doing.

The 2005 is the rumored SUW, 3 row seat Grand Outback, or whatever you want to call it.

C&D: most complete road tests, for example top speed tests are done for every car. But way too politically opinionated, so I skip the editorials. Loosh called them "nutcase militia monthly" and he has a point, but at least the reviews are sound.
Autoweek: indispensible. Read it here first. Some times I read things there 2-3 months before the monthlies get to it. Great in every way, and weekly to boot.
Automotive News: a bit over the top for regular car fans, this is an industry weekly meant for dealers. But it has more news than AN, and it published by the same people. For a car nut like me who wants to be the first to know, I like it.
Consumer Reports: often criticized, but the data provided is simply not offered anywhere else. They publish payload, towing, useful cargo room, and include details about safety that noone else does (pre-tensioners, adjustbale height anchors, LATCH, etc). Data is complete, though subjective opinions are from the soccer-mom perspective. I read it FWIW and get a lot out of it.
Edmunds: read on-line, for another opinion on the reviews. Easy access. They tend to pick on Subaru for whatever reason.
Motorweek: on TV, weekly. Fun and easy to watch, plus they're in my state. Not the most technically accurate, but OK for kicks.

Based on recommendations here, I subscribe to Automobile (monthly). If I had more time, I'd subscribe to Autoweek (Loosh/lucien2 is also a fan). I subscribe to Consumer Reports for the reasons juice mentioned, plus they pay attention to cockpit ergonomics and identify niggles that I would otherwise miss (easy-spill 00 Passat cup holder comes to mind). I read CR primarily for appliance reviews and vehicle frequency-of-repair data (not flawless but still useful).

The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing: They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly looks up! The nose twitches. The ears are up. The eyes are staring. And this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

The wire is right there when you snap off the little cover, not sure where thr Foresters are mounted.
See the photo again in the photo gallery that I put up showing the plastic on the floor you can see the tweeter mounted on the door.
Cheers Pat.
juice: WRC offseason is very short, less than 2 months.
Part sharing: I noticed that the large side mirrors (the housing, not the lenses) on my Forester S are stamped "Nissan." I wonder which model shares them - Pathfinder or Xterra? I'd laugh if it were the latter.
Mag subscriptions: R&T, Turning Wheels (monthly of the international Studebaker Drivers Club), RallyXS (just started), Drive (SoA house pub - came with the territory ;-) ). I get hand-me-down Autoweeks from a friend. I will pick up Automobile, C&D and/or the British Car off the newsstand if there are articles of interest. C&D has to be really good that month as I have a really hard time buying it due to Yates and Bedard. They seem to think it their duty to transform C&D into the automotive equivalent of National Review or The American Spectator. (I still have a pipe dream of DRIVING [edit - NOT "diring"] in Yates' One Lap, though.)
Ed
Ed: the mirrors on the S are bigger than those on the L models. I wonder if mine are Nissan pieces?
Yates is the militia nutcase. Bedard is just paranoid. I like Csere but he's too into luxury cars.

And maybe I am part grumpy old man!
Juice: OB tweeters, Pat's right - snap off the triangular cover at mirror level on the base of the A-pillar. I'm operating on faith that the wires are there - haven't looked yet!
Apologies if my posts seem late or less than timely of late... getting started on a room remodel, and the little details take a lot of time... haven't even applied any paint yet! Sheesh! I will catch up, I promise! (someday!)
Cheers!

Cheers Pat.
anyone notice the not so subtle banner ads outside of the crew topics? if it helps pay the bills, so be it.

To sleep downstairs. She comes into the bedroom,
Nuzzles her biscuit into a corner,
Circles twice, and lies down at my feet.
Her sleep is sound, and I sleep soundly too,
As if we were sculptures in an abbey,
Memorialized by a forgotten artist
Who understood the neccessities of friendship.
It's likely she will die before I die,
And though I have no faith in streets of gold,
I have half-confidence that I will meet her
On this side of a bridge across death's river,
Letting arriving spirits pat and scratch her,
Or stretching out, her head between her paws
As if for sleep, but with her eyes wide open,
Watching, waiting, sure that I will get there,
Sure that I will find her among thousands,
Coming gladly with a leash to link us
So we can go to death as on a walk.
The pet poems posted by Pat & Lucien tear at my heart. Remember reading them on the AOL pet boards when we were in our 'dark' period of loss (3 times in less than 5 years). It really sucks to be seen crying at work!!!

Sports Car (SCCA Magazine)
Regular car mags are pretty biased toward their high $ generating advertisers so I usually go out and test drive @ dealers as many cars as possible

You mentioned today, Thursday, is the day you have to take your loved one into the vet. I just wanted to send you my condolences. As a dog lover myself (two golden retrievers), that is a decision I hate to even think about. You of course have made the most loving decision for Toby, but that doesn't make it any easier on you. My thoughts are with you.

Chat- doubt if I'll make it. No Speedvision here, either.
Mags- I have voiced my opinion about C&D before; suffice to say I am not a fan. I like the writing in Automobile, as they share some staff with the far more entertaining (and pretty) CAR magazine (UK). I do also subscribe to SPorts Car and Autoweek, and plan to pick up Grassroots at some point.
Thanks,
Greg
If it should be.
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle can,t be won.
You will be sad I understand
Don,t let grief then stay your hand
for this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship, stand the test
We,ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You,d not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes please let me go
Take me where my needs they,ll tend
Only, stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time, you too, will see
It is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail, its last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don,t grieve that it should be you
Who must decide this thing to do
We,ve been so close, we two these years
Don,t let your heart hold any tears.
Cheers Pat.
Once again from Rita and I a heartfelt thanks for all the kind thoughts and wishes and condolences expressed here. Know that it made a supremely difficult decision a little easier to take.

Having buried too many cats (even one is too many), I agree that it is one of the more unpleasant burdens in the cycle of life. The 3 cats we have now are middle aged and deeply loved. Reading these messages and thinking of those upcoming days at first made me very sad, but then I realized that I had been given a gift, foresight, by being able to look through the eyes of others.
Thank you all very much! Now please excuse me while I go and spend some quality time with my pets.
Best,
-wdb

It's been almost a year since Ashley left us, but I can honestly say that if I can to go back and do it again, I'd still have adopted her, no question. Not only do I think we improved her life by adopting her, but she also improved ours.
I think I'll take Hadji out for an extra long walk today.
