It's great to see you back.

Any ETA on when you'll be back?

I've had 2 different satellite systems. Primestar and now DirectTV. They're great for picture quality and music (get a bunch of digital music) but internet service is missing. There is "Direct Duo" but uploads are from a 56k modem. The best thing is .. YOU GET SPEEDVISION!!

Bob, AOL 4.0 ? Time to get a real computer. (fire retardant undies pulled up tight .. bring on the flames)

    I have a real computer! LOL! :)

It's a quirky MAC, for a quirky Subie owner...

I have DirecTV for, well, TV. Roof mounted antenna to get all the local channels I 'miss' without cable.

I also have cable - but only for the cable modem. ~1900 down, ~300 up. DSL isn't available here, and frankly I don't think I could get the speed that my cable modem is pulling, at least not for $50/month.

And yes, SpeedVision is 607 on DirecTV.

I have Direct TV for the same reason Pat does, my lake-house didn't have cable until this year so by getting the Direct TV Icould use the satelite up there in the summer and home in the winter.

computer doctor. I can only type one letter at a time. I think it's a problem with my processor. Ugghhh! I'll be reading but I probably will not be able to post much until I get this fixed.

    Sorry!

juice, patti: gonna be in the UK for at least another 8 months if not more. i'm having fun travelling!

Interesting how they commented on the H6 OB Sedan's wind and road noise. Since this model comes with the McIntosh stereo, it should have more sound dampening material.

I used to have a cable modem, but I was a casualty of the @home to AT&T transition. Back when @home was running, I had amazing D/L speeds of +3Mbps. During the transition, I completely lost my connection and could never get through to customer support. I finally got frustrated and canceled my service to go with Earthlink DSL. My D/L speeds are now only 1.2Mbps, but for the most part it's more than enough for my everyday use.

Anyone make the chat? I couldn't make it.

Did we all read the same review? The one I read seemed generally very positive.

Juice: I caught the last half of the chat... pretty quiet & mellow. Kinda felt like everyone had had a tough week, and a lot bowed out early. We nevertheless missed you :)

    Cheers!

I didn't think it was all that positive. It was lukewarm at best. The first time I've ever heard the Subie's road feel called anything other than solid.

Speaking of which, I got my GT back from the body shop today; new front facia and RF foglight, hit a fox back in October. I had a newish (6700 miles) Nissan Sentra for a rentacar. I was never so happy to get back into my Subie! The Sentra was flimsy feeling, had awful, awful seats, and the brakes were so touchy it was scary. My little Legacy feels like a luxury car after that!

Boy what a strange winter this year, or so far the non winter in Ottawa.

Normally in January it is Damn cold and we are up to our ears in snow, not this year, we maybe have about six inchs on the ground.

Today I was able to wash the car in the laneway, admittedly it is below freezing but to be able to wash it at all, and this is the 13th January unbelievable.

    Cheers Pat.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
WDB: too bad it wasn't a Spec V. BTW, they pronounce it "Vee", not "Five". Don't ask how I know. ;-)

A friend and neighbor has Comcast digital with all the premium channels for free, since he works there. He admits their service is awful, and even goes as far as recommending I keep my analog service.

It's not even the $10, it's the many hours of upload time I wasted. I think I was up to 700 photos.

Well guys, today is a very sad day in our home.

Today I had to make the lousy decision to have my little dog put to sleep.

The Vet who usually sees him is off until Thursday so that will be the evil day, I have had this little guy as my constant companion for the last 15 years and he has been just a fabulous little dog.

He is now having a hard time breathing and has stopped eating so rather than see him starve to death, I had to choose to have him put to sleep, one of the hardest decisions I have had to make.

    Not so Cheers Pat.

I'm so sorry. Having a pet is no different than a family member. It's a terrible thing to go through. Years ago I had to do the same thing with a cat, and recently, we also lost a cat who was 18. She wandered off and never came back. Cats often do that when it's their time. Again, very sorry to hear the news.

As most of us are pet owners, and dog owners in particular, my sincere condolences.

Our dog Ashley had a stroke last year, and we had to do the same thing. She also couldn't eat, and after spoon-feeding her for a while we finally did what I feel was the right thing.

I stayed with her all the way. It was very sad, but relieving in a way, to see the suffering stop. I'm glad to say I don't have any regrets about doing it.

We still have Hadji, and I always think about getting another dog. Not to replace Ashley, mind you, just another friend to keep Hadji company.

My good thoughts and prayers go out to you. I second what Bob says. After that many years, a pet is definitely a family member (heck, doesn't even take that long). My dad had to put down their dog, a Shepard, Malamute, Wolf mix a few years back. Jo-Jo was 14 years old (a long time for a big dog). She had the hip displatia and a few tumors growing. It got to the point where my dad was hefting this 80 lb dog out to go to the bathroom. He said going through the motions of having her put down was one of the hardest things he has ever had to do. This comes from a 20+ year Korean and Vietnam Army Military Intelligence vet. I'm sure I don't have to say this but know that you're doing the right thing for your companion even though it's painful.

Yeah, I'm bummed about Photopoint too. I don't care as much about the $10 as I do about getting backups of the files I uploaded there. I thought that they would be more stable when they went to a subscription-based service.

Pat -- Sorry to hear about the news. Having to make that decision is extremely difficult. I've been there too. Just remember that he's better now.

My heart goes out to you. I know how difficult the decision is. It's an unfortunate one that I have had to make twice in the last 12 years.
It's a decision that's made out of love and compassion for our little "buddies", although it doesn't make it any easier.
I wish you the best and will be thinking of you on Thursday.

One of the most difficult aspects of selling our 1889 farmhouse last year was leaving behind the grave sites of 3 beloved dogs. Ginger (German Shepard) 1980-1994, Max (German Shepard) 1983-1995, and Queenie (Elkhound/Keeshound) 1986-1999. We had the original '3-dog nights' in that place before I finally upgraded the heating system, insulation, windows, etc. Shouts like "Max: get off my legs" was common in the middle of the night for many a happy year. They were all 'SPCA' or hand-me-down specials, and I cried many a tear as they slowly slipped into history.

For those of you who have followed my posts, you may now have some insight as to why Beth and I have always owned station wagons and vans.

It took 18 months or so before I could even consider another pet, but this past Saturday we celebrated the 1 year anniversary of our new dog Madison (yes, another Shepard - 85lbs of love). He is about 3 years old, and we are his third (and final) home.

We feel for you. I am extremely sorry, but be strong......

Here is one of the few photos I have of my little buddy, he hated having his picture taken as soon as the camera came out he ran like hell you had to be pretty sneaky to get him.

BTW. thanks for all the kind wishs I know it is best for him but that does not make it any easier.

    Cheers Pat.

our condolences to you and your family. they don't call them man's best friend for nothing!

my dad is having a hard time accepting this fact with his dog of 16 years. a little spaniel mix mutt, he has liver problems, is almost completely blind, and has arthritis. My mom wants to bring 'Wilbur' to the vet this week, while my dad just wants to continue buying dog food for him. it's tough sometimes to let go.

    Pat,

My condolences go out to you and your family. A pet is more than an animal, they are your friends and family which makes it that much harder when we lose them. Take care.

My condolences too. We have lost two dogs in the last 5 years. You are in the right place to have people understand your pain. I think many of us drive Subarus because of dogs! I know owning two dogs is a reason why I first had the Forester and now the WRX wagon. There was a guy named Shawn Gilson who used to have a site called "Subaru Adventures.com" He had a picture gallery. You could post pictures of your Subaru and on another page where you could post your dog pictures. I doctored a picture of my Husky howling with a cartoon balloon that said "Dogs love Subarus". If anyone of the SUV squad says you have to have an SUV to carry dogs, tell them that TWRX (Bruce) carries a 60 lb. husky and an 150 lb. Great Pyrenees in the back of a WRX (seats folded of course.)

Sometime there will be another companion in your lives and there will be a little of toby in them too!
    My heart cries for you...

Well folks, Bat and I got back from The 48hrs of Tri-state and had an absolute ball! The XT6 and his Outback worked great along with the RSs and WRXs that came with us. 1281miles 6 cities worth of subaru meets, visited the cleanest nicest subie dealer in the NE, sunk a montero in the pine barrens, had all 7 vehicles in triple digits at the same time, rarely dropped below 75mph on the interstates!

Overall it was an intense weekend. Bat did a great job keeping the convoy together he was bringing up the rear and on the CB you could hear "Bat, how's the back door looking?" many times. We also drove the subies through every condition imaginable:

    Sand/off-road
    Tarmac
    Dirt
    Rain
    Snow-storm
    Ice-storm
    Snow pack
    50 degree weather
    10 degree weather
    gravel

The only soobie that had a problem was I rattled the headlight switch loose in the pine barrens so I had to jury rig it to enable them for the rest of the trip. You guys should come with us next time, it was a great subaru bonding experience and overall great time!

Pat - Condolonces. As someone mentioned above, watching them suffer can be even more painful.

mike - Did you guys make it to SOA? How much money was raised? Too many i-club posts to sort through.

    -Dennis
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
No SOA wasn't able to give us a tour/meet over there. We raised over $1000 for the cause, final numbers are yet to be calculated (mostly cause I was sleeping yesterday) :) They have now consolidated the I-club posts into one thread IIRC.

    We had a ball though!

Steve: there you go. Once a good pet owner, always a good pet owner. I always adopt, too.

I think Tobi could've been Hadji's dad. Some say Hadji must be half feline, did Tobi ever date a cute cat? ;-)

Way to go, mike. Sounds like you had a little something for everyone. I don't even want to ask how you managed to get 7 cars over 100!

Our condolences to you from all of us, but especially our 60 lb of love Dina...we have also gone through it with Rachel, Susan's Beagle (also a stroke). Time will heal the pain, but won't erase the good memories.

Sorry to hear that. Riley is only 6 but I already dread that day. I really underestimated how much she would impact our lives. I'd post a pic if Photopoint was running......

Ohhh, Pat, my heartfelt sympathies for you and your family. Having lived with a small menagerie for most of my life, I've had to make this decision several times. It was never easy, but all of them seemed to tell me it was time...and it was okay.

In fact, I was afraid our black Lab wouldn't make it through this last summer. She had a horrible bacterial infection that infected her entire body. The vet did all he could, but finally said it was up to her to fight it, or not. We bathed her every day in Aveeno and spoon fed her for two months. At one point when she refused to eat, we were dreading the inevitable. The next day, she started eating on her own and began to show interest in playing again. She is doing fine now, except for one thing. The infection caused most of her fur to fall out...and it has not grown back! Needless to say, she is a very odd looking Lab.

Again, my condolences and you and Toby will be in my thoughts on Thursday.

    G'day

Sympathies! Always very painful to part with a dear old friend.

We are just at the other end of the dog life stakes having just acquired a half Kelpie, half Pharoah Hound from the RSPCA. She is nine months old and is determined that she is my shadow, despite being acqired for Judy and the kids. The funniest bit about her is that she blushes when she gets excited - a very distinct red tone to the muzzle. Apparently this is the pharoah hound bit. She is curled around my feet as I type this.

    Thinking of you

While driving up the coast on sunday, south of Half Moon Bay, I say a parking lot full of WRXs, Boxsters, Audii (plural of Audi?), and a couple of other sporty cars in the mix. The weather was 70°, clear and slightly breezy. I thought what a good day for a club drive, we were on a plain old sunday drive (which is never bad). Anyone know of a club in SF bay - monterey area? suabru, SCCA, MDCAD (meet, drink coffee and drive)
I think I'm getting the itch that M/C riding with friends used to fill. :~P
alas the two kids will be old enough to enjoy car rides in just 4 short years
