Maybe this Subaru-OCD thing could be treated via a 12-step program.... I can hear it now... "My name is Paul, and I'm a Subaru-holic"...
Hope everyone is recovered from the morning-after the-night-before.. perhaps my usual Cheers! should be temporarily muted...NOT!
Cheers! (and a hearty "all the best" in 2002!)
Paul
Actually, I've only been hosing it.
Since using the "Finish First" car polish and recently "Finish 2000" to top it off, the shine and gloss have been holding up really well.
Would had washed and polished, but the water and cold weather combo down sit well with me. :-D

Hope this helps!

The trip was fun, although not much of a cross-xultural experience. We mostly got bussed from the ship to these tourist fleecing zones and back. BUT it was time well spent with Kirsten's family. Saw a couple V5 wagons in Grand Cayman.
Delivered a crapload of wine on my own Dec. 31. Used the OB and left the GT at home, but now I am starting to itch for a WRX wagon. I really do miss having that hatch. Rats. I think I need therapy now too......

I thought of you this weekend when I saw 01'Troopers advertised for $17,995 at our local Buick/Isuzu dealer. You best believe I would jump at a Trooper over any RAV or CRV, Forester, etc at that price! That's a lot of vehicle for the price.

Even Ross isn't safe from the OCD club. It's contagious.
Check out the Resolutions topics if you haven't already. I'd love to hear what all of you have planned for 2002.
Comcast just added more channels and STILL no Speedvision!

The reason for adding so much NASCAR, is to lure more cable companies to pick it up.

it's neat but honestly not that satisfying for me. I think I dislike how compressed the format is. I enjoy superbikes and GP bikes much more.

Hope all had a very happy new year. Look for you all Thursday....

They also show an Outback Sedan in Regatta Red Pearl. Nice, but I still prefer Winestone. I guess I just like darker colors.
OT: go Terps! Fear the Turtle!

I don't even own a snow shovel, but who needs one with a Subaru? I'll back the Bean into the garage tonight (pointing up the driveway) and let AWD do the rest.
Rock on!

OK, so we do have a chance of snow showers this weekend. Anyone know the dance steps for snow?

Of course, even too much snow can turn into a bad situation. We still have to make it through the canyons to hit the slopes. Even a Subaru AWD may struggle in a Utah avalanche.
I just finished a drive from Utah to California, and back. I hit packed snow for about 150 miles, and the GT Limited sedan did great. The only time I lost traction is when I pushed the car to see where its limits were. I have got to replace those Poortenza RE 92s, though. A set of Continental CH95s are currently on order at Discount Tires for the Subie.
By the way, I appreciate the good attitudes and friendly atmosphere here. Thanks. I've been perusing another board, "Import cars over-rated," and have been amazed by the hostility there. You can't make a comment without being attacked. It seems most of the users on that board are there to argue, not learn and support.

A plug for the Mitsu? Ouch! No, that was on our "most disappointing" list
(the headline didn't show up that well, so some people missed it) and my
quote for the Lancer was "like a Buick in 8/10 scale, only duller." The
Mitsu got the lowest one-star rating in our review earlier this year. Yes,
snooze-inducing about covers it.
The Subaru could easily have made our finalists, and it got four stars from
me in a review. But while my own tastes run to sports cars, we're also
looking to cars and trucks that appeal to a wide range of consumers. The WRX
is wonderful, but the RSX is basically in the same performance category, and
we don't want our year-end list to be nothing but niche performance cars for
the hotfoots among us. (We are a newspaper, and I can't be as
enthusiast-oriented as my pals at Car and Driver and other buff books.) And
frankly, as much as I love the Subaru - it's a bit faster than the Acura,
and adds all-wheel-drive -- the RSX is a more well-rounded machine. It's a
more grown-up, sophisticated performer, looks better inside and out (the
exterior may be a subjective thing, but I don't think anyone would put the
Subaru's interior in the Acura's league) and it's a notch above the Subie in
things like fit-and-finish, build quality and almost surely in long-term
quality and reliability. (There's no turbo, and Acura is near the top of any
list in quality and owner satisfaction, where Subarus perennially rank below
industry average). That said, any enthusiast would be thrilled to park a
WRX in their driveway.
Thanks for reading, and for writing,
Lawrence U.

No mention of the Subaru WRX (but...a plug for the snooze inducing
Mitsubishi Lancer??). Now I know you're not a serious car reviewer!!!

Dennis: you read my mind. To call the RSX more well-rounded is about as naive as you can get. I guess that's why he's a writer in the minor leagues.
Still no real snow. I saw a couple of flakes on my windshield, but that's it.

I woke up to 7 of snow this morning, and its still coming down. They say we could get 12-15 before it ends! I love it, but this will likely close down much of the area since the local municipalities are not prepared for this kind of weather. Still, it looks really beautiful out.
I went out for a drive at 7am (my wife thought I was nuts) and had a blast. Most of the roads around here were unplowed, and I was making first tracks everywhere. The Bean seems to be in its element out there, and I was continually amazed how much traction it had. You can easily get up to a speed that far exceeds safe handling and braking limits, which is probably how most people get in trouble. But with empty roads, I did a lot of practicing and had fun.
I did notice the rear end thunk other folks have mentioned, which occurred when I floored it and caused the back end to let loose. Must be something in the rear diff.
In between going slow and all-out, there is a regime where the car drives and handles great. I was able to dip into the throttle with confidence and the car just went. Very cool. The Bridgestone Potenzas seem fine (though they only have about 1200 miles on them).
Compared to my old 5-spd Outback (a 2000 model without the LSD), the Bean is much more stable in the snow. Where the rear of the old car would whip out early, the Bean stays nicely planted. I think part of this is due to the auto trans, which damps throttle inputs quite a bit.
I played around with braking and ABS quite a bit. Contrary to what I have heard, clicking the parking brake one notch (thus turning on the parking brake light) does not disable the ABS.
Got to try out the wiper heaters for the first time, and they worked great. Unfortunately, this was accompanied by a smell akin to burning baby diapers! Thankfully, it wore off after a while.
I drove down into Colonial Williamsburg, and snapped some pictures in the snow. They can be found here.
Hope every body has a nice day! I'm going to head back out for a drive in a little while.

hehe I'm bummed that the weather pattern will probably skirt DC. BTW did she go with you?
Ok, except for Loosh and Colin, whose wives appreciate automobiles and don't consider them (cars, that is) a transportation appliance, is there a Crew member whose s.o. (significant other) does not think they're nuts?

She does draw the line though at going out at 7:00 a.m. to "play" in the snow. I did that a couple of times last winter.
Plus, she drives an Outback!

Just getting back on my feet after probably the worst case of stomach flu ever. Kicked into high gear New Years Eve, but I made it in to work today. I am 7 pounds lighter - a great 'after the holidays' diet plan. Hell of a way to start the year.

A more minor but additional side effect will be that the increased oil mist in the crankcase will be pulled out by the crankcase ventilation system (PCV), and routed into the intake tract. This will increase the oil comsumption (burning), throwing off mixture, causing buildup on intake valves, plugs, catalytic converter, etc. Again, I would worry first about poor lubrication, but overfilling can have a number of secondary effects.
