Speaking of records... I saw in some holiday catalog (can't remember which) where they were offering 45's with strings attached that you could hang on your tree as ornaments! IIRC, you got 4 for $15. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.

You guys lost me on the Alice in Wonderland breaking records eating turbot in a Subie-owned restaurant.

Center caps? I'd measure and then try NAPA, Pep Boys, Trak Auto, or whatever other local parts place you have near you.

I'll continue the compliments to the regulars on this board. I have been quietly following the messages here since April this year when I first seriously considered the Subaru. When I tell people why I choose Subaru I alway reply that one of the big reasons is the number of "Happy" people I found on the Edmunds board. Look elsewhere and you find a high number of complainers, a lot of disdain, lack of regard for other opinions, more nonsence, and just a general feeling of unease.

Yes, Subarus have problems too. Many have been reported here, but the number of problems reported is actually very small and those here who respond to those problems are considerate, helpful, and genuinely interested in the resolution.

As I say, Subary owners are happy people. You're not going to find such high level of good feelings in a group brought together by a car unless that car by and large brings happiness.

I am happy, and happy to have been able to participate here.

    Happy holidays to you all.

here at the Crew seem to require that in addition to the "Dave" or woman with a "K" in her name requirement for membership, will must also accept the Mikes (& mike) and the Steves (plus variations). Shall we have a vote?

Frank - Canadians are very understanding people. ;~)

The demographics are swaying a little. We found a couple of lawyers that own WRXs, and some really hip seniors.

I live in Weston and work in Delray Beach. Long drive (100 miles round trip) but in an OB it's great- especially at the I95 and Sawgrass speeds! I was trying to get a Subaru drive through the Everglades off Alligator Alley put together but couldn't find the other 5 of us down here!

I think you should include Mikes too.

I live in Boyton Beach and Serge lives in Coral Springs. This gives us a nucleus of three as a start for a get together.

    G'day

Our GP in rural England swore that an Imprezza was the perfect doctors car; small enough for the coutry lanes, quick and safe with AWD for the snowy and icy bits

    Cheers

I got rid of AOL 7.0 and I can actually use my PC!

Happy holidays to all! I'm not sure I'll get through all the boards (miss a few days and wow - back up city!!)

I had a great laugh on my way to work the other day. I was following a truck that had "Texiera Bakery" on the back! Finally, somone to make the Rally Bread! Juice - do you have a connection??

Steve - Daisy actually sent your kind comments off to my boss when you called the other day. Thank you very much. He did come and speak to me and it helped a lot.

News: I'm still waiting for a list of what vehicles will appear at each auto show. I'll post it when I get it.

The "STX" microsite is in the works. I sent on the questions I could gather from this board to see if they could get added to the FAQ's.

Well, I'm baking this morning (I am soooo behind on my Holiday work...), but I want to thank all of you folks here at these boards. It is a real day brightener for me to visit here and share in your friendship. The out and out kindness of folks is amazing and I'm truly grateful to all of you.

There's no place like Edmunds and our crew.

Health, happiness and lot's of snow wishes to all of you!

Are you posting at the crack of dawn again? :-)
    Happy Holidays!
edit: Actually, that's well before the crack of dawn.

    Welcome back, Patti.

There was a discussion about tire pressures in the Legacy/Outback thread under wagons, they specifically asked for you.

Wow, I didn't know my family owned a Bakery! Actually, the name is Portuguese, and Portuguese bread is pretty yummy. 2nd only to rally bread. Maybe we should send them a recipe?

Hmm, you baking? How long is the drive to Cherry Hill again?

Folks: DC Auto Show is Dec 26 to Jan 1. I may go next Friday, the 28th. Anyone else interested? I'm working on trying to get free passes, but no guarantees.

Don, isn't Serge about to buy a WRX? Next year we'll try to get a drive going. I know the other Peter will participate...

    Happy holidays all.
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Although there were fewer than the usual number of particiapnts (last minute shoppers?) last night's chat was pleasant and fun. We had Mike K, paisan, Pat and me for the first half of the chat, juice, Pete (outback165) and Stephen came in later.

paisan and Pat pretty much convinced me not to go the aftermarket exhuast route; though I'd like about 15 more hp throughout the power band it doesn't appear that the simple intake/exhaust mods will reach that (not for a Phase II EJ25, that is). I will stick with my plan to upgrade to better tires - probably even a plus-one application - in an effort to make better use of the power already at hand.

I'll be envious if you do get 17" rims. The ride with 16"s is more than tolerable, so I'm sure you'll be happy with the results.

PS I'm working on a rendition of the "12 Days of Christmas" for the Crew...

I got my blue WRX wagon a few weeks ago...it is fun, smooth and fast. I will be off starting tomorrow for the rest of the year...Don, I will email you...will definitely be home until the 2nd of Jan....hopefully we can get together: we don't have any plans to go away anywhere.

Susan, Michael, and I (and Dina of course), wish everyone here a very happy and healthy holiday season and New Year. We hope that the coming year brings peace and fulfillment of you hopes and aspirations.

juice: I already have the 17"s. In a corner of my garage behind the Stude are four neatly stacked boxes marked "Speedline." In them are four 17" Speedline Prodrive P7 wheels in anthracite gray. All are new, never used. Two I bought on ebay from a guy with an RS who had a change of heart and put the rest of his money into suspension; the other two I bought from a vendor that is not the vendor that is cornering the US market on Speedlines. The last two were my Christmas present to myself; the tires will hopefully be my birthday present to myself in March. My current thinking is to buy a set of 225/45R17 Bridgestone RE730s from that vendor that is cornering the US market on Speedlines.

I love your obtuse remarks about "He Who Must Not Be Named" to use a phrase from Harry Potter!
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
1suby: I saw that movie last Saturday night with my wife, her college roommate and the roommate's 7-year-old daughter. Fine enough movie, great use of some fine British actors, but I was not caught up in the hype which would, I guess, make me a "muggle" in their terminology. I was happy that I got to see it in an old, small-town, single-screen theatre rather than one of those annoying mall megaplexes. It was only filled to about 10% of capacity.

The unnamed vendor is a principal sponsor of the i-club and has sucked up most of Prodrive's inventory of Speedline P7 and OZ P1 wheels destined for the States. As I have already bought tires for my wife's car from them, giving them repeat business on tires alone should be sufficient while helping some of the less muscular independents with wheel sales as well.

You lucky duck! No wonder you've been so exciting about it.

OK, here is my version of the song, the last verse only to save space:

On the 12th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...

    12 inch disc brakes
    11s for the back
    10 days at Panoz
    9 turbot fillets
    8 trunk monkeys
    7 seater Subies
    6 piston calipers
    Fiiiiive, golden....rims
    4 inch lift kit
    3 wiper blades
    Twin turbo chargers
    and Xplod Speakers from Sony!

    Happy Holidays everyone.

    good one, juice!
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Yep, the cost of the 4 wheels including shipping came out to $207.50 each, significantly lower than the going rate from pretty much all commercial vendors. I was pleased.

I will continue popping in to the forums over the holidays, but I know some of you will be away from your computers, travelling, etc. So, I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, whatever holiday you celebrate. Thanks to all for your participation in the forums here; this really is a great resource. And remember, drive safe out there.

    my best,

No pics of just the boxes and I have a couple of months to wax them. I figure it'll give me something to do during those cold winter nights, sitting in front of the TV in the basement.

Ed- I've been pondering 'bout going with 17" on my '98 OB for the longest time. Mainly, I haven't got a clue if the 225 tires will clear the rear towers.
BTW what's the offset on those Speedline you got?

    -Dave

To All- Ho Ho Ho!!! Merrie Merrie to All!!!
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Dave: P7 offset is +53 (cf. +48 on Forester OEM IIRC)- phew, what a lot of abbreviations there! Given that the capacity of the Forester wheelwells is greater than that of Legacies or Imprezas, and that I'd actually be moving the wheels closer in rather than farther out, I think that I can get away with 225s instead of 215s. I will check with the tire vendor, of course, before I purchase.

Have you ever figured out how to manipulate your GPS data to give us a map of the covered bridge run, or am I going to have to run it again with a trip odo? ;)

My OCD crystal ball tells me the boxes are sealed so the new rims aren't exposed to the elements.

    -juice
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
juice: Nah, not sealed, though the wheels did come wrapped in very thin sheets of polystyrene, like wafer-thin packing peanuts.

    Ed
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
Ed- Nope. I've even turned the manual inside out and upside down looking for a clue. Anyway, I put in an inquiry with the maker of the software "City Navigator". Hoping they could "guide" me on it.

Maybe if I hit the lottery or get an incredible job promotion. The house was built in 1950 so that wasn't a priority back then.

The chat was fun last night, sorry I was late. It was good to be able to participate at a lightning quick rate again, something that was missing w/the "guests" we were fortunate to have the last couple of chats.

Ed: I'm excited to see how the 225's work out for you. Sounds like you will have the setup on your Forester before I have it for my WRX.

Patti & Bob: Yes....yes...yes...snow would be the perfect Holiday gift for Soobie owners (especially those w/new snow tires mounted) :-)

Juice: Great "12 Days of X-mas"(or should I say "Soobie")rendition!

Anyhow, I wish a happy, safe, and wonderous Holiday for all! BTW, my sis and family are coming in from Indy on Sat. so I will be busy w/them. I have yet to see my new nephew in person so I'm pretty excited. I may sneak away and check the "crew" periodically. :-)

    To all:
I would like to wish you all a great holiday and a new year filled with much promise, happiness, health and snow. I will pop in every so often over the next two weeks, but, wanted to make sure I sent my wishes today.

It's looking very much like we will not be getting our Christmas snow here, so I may just have to bite the bullet and do the half-hour drive to Mt. Seymour. Lots of the white stuff there. :-) May the new year bring health, peace, contentment & joy to you all.

Between company provided days and some remaining vacation time, I will be out of here in two hours, and not return until January 2nd. Depending on what the wife has planned for me in terms of house projects, parties, visits & day trips, I doubt I will be on-line much. I want to wish all of you all the best. As I stated a few days ago, this board is a unique experience, and I have really enjoyed it.

Patti: Glad the message got thru to you. Better yet, it got to your management! Cann't beat that.....

The wife and I are going to Syracuse for Christmas. My brother-in-law tells me it's snowing, so a white Christmas is possible. Unfortunately the Subaru is staying in Florida because *grumble*. (They are pick-up people...)

Patti: what was wrong with AOL 7.0? I put it on my mother's computer Labor Day weekend... I wonder whether I should put 6.0 back on - just to avoid the dreaded phone call "AOL's not working".

Happy happy and merry merry. I'm going to try to get on line over the holidays! See you next year!

Happy Holidays to all of you. I've learned a lot, hopefully helped others learn a little, gotten some good laughs, and some camaraderie during our collective (at least for the US members) bad times this fall. Do all be careful on the roadways - don't get overconfident with the AWD - and be brave and prudent should you take to mass transportation.

My bro-in-law will be up from MD for most of the week but I too will pop in from time to time.
